I like your statement "I don't drink everyday and neither should you", this us a point needed to be ingrained in every Whisky guys mind. Addiction is something we should make people aware of. A really responsible and sensible statement. I like your choices and could see the difficulty you were facing naming one dram. I further agree with you stupidity of a few questions. Keep doing sensible stuff CHEERS 🍻
Thanks! My five are: Daily Drink (aka 'Go-to' drink): Auchentoshan Three Wood Impress a Guest: Glen Scotia 15 Mixer: Johnnie Walker Black Weekend Pour: Benromach 15 Special Occasion: Lagavulin 16 The 'Impress a Guest' and 'Special Occasion' can be switched out with each other, depending upon the guest. The 'Daily Drink' category also includes Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and Bunnahabhain 12. A similar situation exists with the mixers, as I also have a bottle of J&B on hand for those who want a 'cleaner' expression with their mixer.
Lovely idea! Really good line-up! I love the Bunna 12 for a regular dram along with the Tamdhu 12. Save that Tamdhu 15/Glen Scotia 15 for the weekends, or a monthly affair. And some amazing single cask bottles for proper special occasions! Usually save the peaty standards for weekends, or non-occasional but not regular consumption. Sherry first, always!
Overall I agree. It really depends on how you view these categories. I'd say I don't really have a daily because I have so much choice (samples and my own bottles) that when I do drink whisky, it's almost always something different. I don't tend to mix whisky either but some things are really interesting and worth trying. Like peated whisky and gingerbeer (recommended by compass box Blender Jill Boyd. I also like the 51.5% Glen Scotia Victoriana with Tonic water. Another thing is I'd have to stick to things that are at least batched or readily available. There's a lot of awesome whisky out there but you sometimes just can't get it. If you have too much time on your hands read past this point. ---------------------------------------- For me: 1. Glen Moray Peated (43%) 2. Springbank 15 or Benrinnes 15 Flora and Fauna, or Paul John Nirvana (43%) 3. Sazerac Rye/Glen Scotia Victoriana/Ardbeg 10 4. Springbank 12 CS or Tamdhu Batch Strength 5. Lagavulin 16 or a very special occasion Old Pulteney 21 Firstly I'm lucky all whisky has to be 43% to be sold in South Africa. Glen Moray makes pretty nice whisky, I just really enjoy their peated, it's very much neck and neck with Lagavulin 10 (which gets mixed reviews), before this it would have been Laphroaig 10. Springbank 15 is enough sherry and enough funk to make it impressive to most people. Benrinnes 15 flora and fauna is quite something, I've never had something that's just so much like lemon drops, . I mention Paul John Nirvana because it's a light style of whisky much closer to Speyside scotch and honestly my favourite from Paul John so far. That said I've recently been very impressed by Bladnoch 10 (as a sample). I don't mix often, I want to get into occasional old fashioneds. I like a lot of cask strength whisky but Springbank and Tamdhu are the most consistent and are available (ok not so much Springbank but I manage to grab a bottle here and there). Although I tend to have Springbank more often and usually on Friday sessions with friends. Finally, Lagavulin 16 just always works for me. Most whisky fanatics find it boring but after tasting most Islays the only thing that competes is a single cask Ledaig and Kilchoman STR cask from 2019/single cask STR too. I have a bottle of Old Pulteney 21 and I will open it at some point, I found it magical with flavours that reminded me of Compass box Myths and Legends II, something that really made me go wow especially since I thought it was overpriced marketing-driven whisky.
Wow! That's a pretty in depth comment. Highly appreciated. Ultimately I don't think there are any absolutes to drinking whisky. I'm just happy that we can have a fun discussion from time to time. Hopefully over a dram. Cheers.
Oh boy that special occasion bottle 🙌 I hope if I ever stop by your neck of the woods that would qualify as a special occasion lol. Cheers brother great video 🥃🤙
Great channel ! You just popped up in my recommendations! My list would be: Everyday: i don’t drink everyday and usually don’t buy bottles more than once , ardbeg 10 maybe ? Impress : I think a lot of people are impressed by cask strength whisky , I would go with laphroiag 10 cask strength or redbreast 12 cask strength Mixer: Wild Turkey 101 Weekend : uhhhh not sure tbh , clynelish 14 very easy to drink and delicious Special occasion: Laphroiag 25 as well
The Tamdhu 15 yo retails for about £80 GBP which is much dearer than the 12 yo which costs around £38 GBP. I’d be tempted to go for the latter which gets very good reviews
Fantastic whisky channel. Entertaining take on this challenge (your nomination snub was a scandal); refreshing and engaging videos in general, as only the one true Malt Activist can do. Preach on brother. Just a thought - while I appreciate the path less traveled contents, maybe have more popular contents (best of lists, blind tastings, reviews of popular whiskies, whatever popular on the other W channels) to draw a bigger audience. Throw in a curve ball now and then to keep it lively. But whatever you put out I will watch, it's all good sh t. Oh, more blues please.
You are absolutely right Thoan. Hence, doing a lot more list-y type stuff. But at the same time I'd like to keep content in here that appeals to the real freaks. Like you and me. Appreciate the lovely words and they mean a lot!
Dude ! Great catch and YES you're 100% right. I have another 14yrd SMWS which is a Laphroaig and I ended up mixing up the two bottles. Thank you for pointing it out - I will address it in the description box.

Thank you Ravi. I am glad you like my sensible side. Few people do.
Without a doubt the most entertaining whisky channel, together with great knowledge.
Cliff, you are the wind beneath my wings. Now to find a million more of you.

Laphroaig 25 is also one of my special occasion whiskys. Currently have the 2015 bottling open.
Very special.
Sure is special

Finally someone to say don’t drink every day, lol! I’m with you, the best daily whisky is tea.
Right!!

Fair enough!
WT101 for a great old-fashioned. Markers Mark just isn't strong enough. IMO obviously
Fair enough!

Do you have any cigar pairing suggestions
I do actually! Would you like a video on that next?
Isn’t that SMWS bottle a bunna?
Dude ! Great catch and YES you're 100% right. I have another 14yrd SMWS which is a Laphroaig and I ended up mixing up the two bottles. Thank you for pointing it out - I will address it in the description box.
Corrected in the description box and acknowledged you. Thank you very much.
Maybe I should hold my gripes until the end, but Tamdhu 15 is $130 in Ohio.
Gripe away. Whisky is getting crazy expensive
wow that's crazy!
Wow. Tamdhu 15 is only $40-$50 in your area? Its $100 here.
I think it's a bit more tbh
