It's fascinating to me how the Avenger was developed as a companion to the Odyssey. I didn't realize how closely related two of my favorite ships were.
Technically, I came up with thay part, but given how much in common both have, visually, and the fact that both concepts were entered via the Design the Next Enterprise contest, it made sense to me.
In my Star Trek Universe, the Federation abided (barely) with the “No Cloaking Devices” on board their ships. Once the Romulan homeworld went KA BLOOEY, the Federation in my Universe began installing their own versions of Federation Cloaking Devices. If other core member worlds didn’t like that decision…too bad for them. Ww showed them the advantages of having Starships with Cloaks on them, as well as disadvantages
The Avenger is the standard Starfleet design pattern that looks the most like it means business. it just looks tough, capable and focused on combat. Certainly one of the best STO original designs next to the Odyssey.
its an easy thing to miss with all the effect spam in the game, but once you know what to look for, it's cool to see it deploy when you enter combat. I had to edit a bunch of stuff out in demo record to get such a clear shot of it for this.
These are my favorite ships and I have only used them since the first T5 model appeared until the legendary Inquiry model. And I don't plan on changing it now until a replacement comes along. Of course, I experimented with other classes of ships, but nothing gives me pleasure like a battlecruiser :)
How did the Arbiter-class Battlecruiser fit into all of this? I thought they were a response by the Federation to replenish the Avengers lost in the Iconian War (similar to the Sojourner-, Yorktown-, and Endeavor-classes were for the Odysseys) but it sounds like that's not the case? If the Federation halted production after the Iconian War to focus again on exploration, then how does the development of the Arbiter conform to that goal?
An excellent vid about my favorite STO ship. You also repositioned the ship in the canon pretty well, especially after the Avenger's development timeline was shaken up by the emergence of the Inquiry in Picard.
I don't have power right now, so I can't log in and check. We got a preview of the new Obelisk's concept art a while back. I had already been assuming it was going to be the Summer event prize, this leak all but confirms it.
@@Stu1701 the Vovin Obelisk Carrier, unfortunately no other details at the moment and the Summer Event has been announced Edit: Vovin stats released, confirmed MW seat
The Summer event is the same every year, the Risian Lohlunat Festival. They haven't announced the date for this year's yet, but last year's ran from June 28th to July 28th, so it'll likely be coming soon. The Borg Royale (or Delete Alt Control) is the event currently running on PC as part of the recent story update.
When I brought up cost, it was more in reference to materials than actual money. We know there are plenty of things that can't be replicated in Star Trek, so the resource cost of a ship, I think, would have to be a factor.
@@Stu1701 I was just making a joke about how the Federation presents itself vs. how things actually are. Their 'we're a peaceful organisation' saying being the most ridiculous. They're peaceful, but routinely win againts other factions where war is almost a sport.
Hey Stu! Fairly new subscriber but have been watching your content for a while now (sorry). This was just your most recent video so I figured you would be more likely to see this comment. I have a question… I like your canon builds and it’s one of my favorite things to do in game, (space Barbie and all that ) but one thing has always stood out to me. With the NX series ship…why do we have the prime uniforms for the ship, we have the mirror universe uniforms for the ship, but NOT a mirror universe skin for the ship? One of the very first starship models I had as a kid was the Mirror NX enterprise and I would love to replicate that in game… Do you have any idea why that was never brought into the game?
I've wondered this myself for a while now. We have several mirror universe uniforms and quite a few mirror ships, but we still don't have mirror versions of the TOS Constitution, Defiant, or NX, the only three Terran ships we actually see from the old shows.
the avenger class was my first true love. i had the pleasure of commanding an rp crew onboard one in the 26th fleet. she was ultimately destroyed in a battle against a race of cybernetic critters that make the borg look almost kinda friendly. she was replaced by her successor a yamato class dreadnought because the dreadnought could complete the same mission profiles as her avenger predecessor. but just like Scotty and Picard.. sometimes while on the bridge.. i yearn for the days of my first love..
@@void4837 In Picard, Inquiries ARE that size, they just got sized in STO to the lineage the devs attached them to. As for Avengers/Arbiters, I gotta agree to disagree. They're still 2/3 of the size of a Galaxy class, so vastly bigger than a Defiant, and I'm personally very okay with advanced tough ships not needing to push the size envelope.
I think the ball was really dropped on the canonization of the Avener, Odyssey, and other STO themed ships. The diburnium hull plating is a big part of STO's era of ship design, and to have the Odyssey class designed in the mid to late 2380s feels way too early. I think a better compromise would have been for the Odyssey and Avenger classes to be the first of the line in the Picard era between 2399 and 2401. It feels like the Enterprise F's appearance in Picard season 3 should have been it's launch day, not its decomissioning.

I'd totally forgotten the armoured shutters that extend when you get into a fight! One of my favorite ship details in the game.

Please do the vesta class ship I’d love to hear that and all of its entirety it’s one of my favorite ships of all time
Love this ship. Especially the fleet variant. Great lore vid, Stu!
Of the many ships STO has contributed, the Avenger and Oydessy classes are by far my favorites.

I was wondering why there was no mention of the arbiter as well.
Arbiter is T6 Avenger, Avenger (First one, was T5 ship).
Honestly, I kinda ignored the Arbiter. I'm not a fan of it.
You should have mentioned it still since it's the latest version of the avenger 😂
i do what i want
Having both the Gagarin and an Odyssey - this one hit! Thanks for all you do STU!!
Honestly love the brualistic Vibe of the Avenger.

Just picked it up so far it's my favorite ship .. The Earhart escort is a beast as well
This vid was awesome. I love the Avenger class. Would definitely love to see more vids like this!
I'd humbly request the Hestia class.
I love this ship, it’ll always be in my top 3 starfleet ship classes.
Thank you for more lore videos STU1701
do you have the AVENGER CLASS BATTLECRUISER? ARE you planning on a review of this ship at all?
Another lore video awesome im loveing these stu
I have the fleet version with the V.A.T.A console worth it?
Vid on the presidio class command cruiser?

I'd like to hear your fan lore on the Galaxy X Dreadnought And how it eventually evolved into the yamato class dreadnought
Would love to see a lore on the world razer juggernaut alternate timeline.
My first T6 ship! Well, the Arbiter in Avenger skin anyway. 😃
I love this!
Thanks!
LOVE the Avenger. So, what about the Arbiter class?
Have the legendary version it's a strong little ship. Wish it was a little bigger is all.
The avenger/Inquiry should be the size of the galaxy class, not the size of the defiant.

Good writeup. Although I really dislike how ST and STO has classified ship types. As they seems to bear sweet FA to those real World types.
i though the avenger class was the odysse class in the intro
o7 to all the Avengers out there
