Was lucky to see Arena live in Oslo, Norway back in october 2022. Great band. Offspring of Marillion. This piece reminds a bit of Floyds Comfortably numb. Guitarist John Michell served lots of lovely solos. I could not stand still, had to walk around. Now every CD of Arena stands proud in my collection.
Thanks for bringing back the prog. I got to meet the bass player, John Jowitt in San Jose 1994 touring with IQ. Very nice chap. And then a year later the keyboard player, Clive Nolan at Progfest ‘95 in Los Angeles, and he was awesome too. He gave me a signed cd of their debut Songs From The Lion’s Cage and took time to listen to my solo music on tape.
Apparently I failed to mention it was Pendragon who Clive Nolan was playing with at Progfest ‘95. Now then these players like JJ and Clive are in the same bands and in different variations of bands sometimes apart. John Jowitt also played in an IQ offshoot band that I absolutely love called Jadis. John is no longer in IQ,Arena or Jadis but things change as you know. I think you 2 would adore Jadis. Their leader is Gary Chandler and he writes, sings and plays guitar. Very much in the emotional style we just saw from John Mitchell. I own every Jadis cd. John Jowitt is on the first 4 albums if I’m not mistaken. John Mitchell is also on the last 2 albums by It Bites.
I am now sending this video to my friend (before Facebook was created )John Jowitt to ask if he’s okay with you reacting to Jadis in fact I will ask him to pick the song.
I’m really floored on this one guys! Great band, beautiful selection! But Winston the epic PROG DOG stole the show along with my heart! This is just pure adorable guys. More Winston please, and oh yes, more Arena too! Speechless on this end y’all!!
Nice video! I had listened to the album a lot and had seen the group in concert on November 20, 1998 in France for the "the visitor" tour. Great moment with Paul Wrightson on vocals at the time.
Never heard these guys before, thanks! Lush song, great guitar tone. Very Gilmoresque, as others have pointed out. Congrats on the new addition to the family, he's a cutie!
John Mitchell is Lonely Robot,Arena,Frost*,Kino and a few more lol I can't wait till you play my request for Tocoma Narrows Bridge Disaster . I love Prog 🤘🏾
Winston is really a cutie!! Congrats on the addition to your family!! He'll be lots of fun for you both :D . Thanks for this song! I've never heard of Arena before but I've already fallen head over heels in love with this song. I've always loved Marillion but have a feeling that I may end up much deeper in love with Arena after hearing this. Instrumentally, they seem untouchable and their vocalist is definitely pleasing on the ear.
What an excellent choice from Arena, and John Mitchell's solo was indeed outstanding. John is a first class guitarist and is up there with the greats. You guys need to try out some 'It Bites' tracks. Especially 'Once Around The World'. John has been their lead guitarist for some years and I believe took over from Francis Dunnery. Anyway, great reaction vid KelnRich.
The Visitor is their most iconic album sofar..it's a concept album. The solo on this track is a reprise, it's from the song The Hanging Tree from this same Visitor album..Listen to Crack in the Ice also from the Visitor. 👍
The Hanging Tree is utterly brilliant. One of the best tracks in all prog. And the supergroup Neo did a wonderful version of it live with Alan reed of Pallas on vocals.
more for your trip down the rabbit hole. Clive Nolan, keyboards is also in Pendragon. John Mitchell as you know is Lonely Robot. But also check out It Bites, Frost* ( the asterisk is important if you want prog!) and Kino ( for a circle back to Marillion because Pete Trewavas is in Kino). John Jowitt has also played in Frost* and IQ. Marillion, Pendragon and IQ are (IMHO) the key original (ie 80s) neo-prog bands.
John Mitchell has a huge back catalogue... John Wetton Band, Kino, Frost, It Bites. He's been in arena since their 3rd album He plays very melodic and dynamic soloes in Arena, but he is very diverse. They are one of the best live bands out there. This is from 2011 in Poland a theater/ opera house. The sound is spectacular. the long solo is actually from another song calledthe Hanging Tree" and is reprised for the title track. Check out "Solomon" "Ascension" "Don't forget to breathe" or Hanging Tree" great soloes in all of them. They are a grossly under appreciated band
Hey Rich!! How much longer will you deprive is of Kel's genuine reaction to Dream Theater. Don't you think it's time to introduce her the epic of all epics?? It's time to introduce Kel to Disc 2 of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence!! All 42 glorious minutes of it. Can't wait for it!!
Yeah and that's because is David Gilmour my favorite guitar player because his guitar "speaks" and this guy has that kind of feeling in his playing Great Great Great performance overall!!!
Love Arena, I would suggest listening to the epic Moviedrome or Scars from the latest album, I love the Peppers Ghost album, awesome concept album. I would also suggest another band Mostly Autumn and the track White Rainbow.
Thank you guys for your great reaction video and the kind words, glad you appreciated this. Fine to hear that there's more Arena coming up. In that case I am ready with the next suggestion, I am sure you and the audience gonna love it. A live version of the iconic Elea/ Hanging Tree. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/Vi0R7RFWjgU/v-deo.html
aaa u react to Arena at last!superb band!i suggested u this many times before thank u! plz react to their song hanging tree also a band named Jadis their song more than meet the eye live version is amazingEdit:the last solo is actually from "The hanging tree" song but longer version
Ahhhhhhhhhhh! Oh my gosh! I lost my Beagle last March, it killed me. I am now raising a new little girl. May I suggest you let that little guy sleep with you for a while, right next to your heart. ❤️ You will experience bliss. And the little guy will sleep right through the night for you.
Sorry for your loss. Might I recommend that you listen to "Kindred Spirits" by Arch/Matheos. It's a song that deals with losing a longtime companion that happens to be a dog. Strange subject matter for prog but it works and is a very emotional song.
Wow, hadn't come across them before,, but will definitely be looking out for Arena in future. Of course, you know you've blown it now (never share the shot with children or young animals) because Winston has stolen the show. :-)
Last album was a return to form with this latest singer. Previous singers had more progressive epics such as this song and one of my favorite songs moviedrome or the album contagion.
Glad you've reached Arena, one of the finest prog band ever, with Mick Pointer (first Marillion drummer co-founder of the band) and Clive Nolan (already in Pendragon and many other bands), The visitor is one of their finest album, great great great music. Try the whole album and Immortal which is close in term of quality.
One of my favorite bands. They get a little heavier but invoke some Pink Floyed style too especially in the guitar solos. To bad that singer left the band but they are working on new stuff
You guys should consider doing a reaction video to TV Eye by The Stooges. That's Iggy Pops first big group. TV Eye was on the Fun House lp. Another Stooges song you might consider is I Want To Be Your Dog off of the s/t debut. Long story but they changed their name to Iggy and The Stooges. You could randomly pick out any song off of Search and Destroy.
There's so many bands out there that it's hard to keep in touch with all of them. Heard the name Arena a few times over the years. And yes, they sound great. Cuddly puppy is the best. Forever to be known as prog dog 😍 one point...I notice the editing / cutting in the recent videos. Is there a reason for this ? Maybe to keep the length down. Liked the spontaneity of earlier videos so just wondered. Maybe a little unsettling ?
Arena is one of my favourite bands, they are so underrated. This singer (Paul Manzi) is undoubtedly good, but he is my least favourite among their singers.
One of the best albums from the '90s. Some great IQ like chord changes at the end (probably courtesy of IQ's John Jowitt on bass). Get on with IQ's 'Road of Bones' (alse neo-prog') for a great ride.
Arena doesn't know how to play anything that isn't EPIC! It's the side band for most of the members, but it's an all-star collection of talent. John Mitchell is the best "unknown" guitarist in music. Pick any Arena song and you'll love it. Sirens is my favorite, Solomon is great ... just can't go wrong.
if this is already considered "amazing", you should really try "The Truth Will Set You Free" or "Garden Of Dreams Pt. 1" and/or Pt. 2 by the Flower Kings (all three songs from their live DVD)... it will blow you away :)
Thanks for the intro to Arena. Love the voice, the lead guitar, and the chord changes...excellent!

"The Visitor" album deserves to be listened to from start to end, like so many concept albums. Every album from Arena are pure gems
A new one for me. Enjoyed it very much. Love the dog.
Just came across this video !! Arena are an amazing band! Love your reaction!!! And your puppy is adorable!!! 🩷
Arena are a great band. John Mitchell one of my all time favorites.
Nice video! I had listened to the album a lot and had seen the group in concert on November 20, 1998 in France for the "the visitor" tour. Great moment with Paul Wrightson on vocals at the time.
Great band, the visitor album is one of my favs. Please give us more arena! Kudos for yorkie :)
Never heard these guys before, thanks! Lush song, great guitar tone. Very Gilmoresque, as others have pointed out. Congrats on the new addition to the family, he's a cutie!

Great album by an underated band ! Now time for A crack in the ice ! 😉
Cute puppy. I just got a little Cavanese. He is a handful, let me tell ya! Great vid.
Love that breed as well!!!! Congrats Gary 🐶🤘🙏🏽❤️🔥🥰
Great Great GREAT performance with a David Gilmour like solo just outstanding & God this Puppy is so cute

Love that band. The album 'Songs from a lion's cage" was my favorite for a long time. I never understood why they are not more recognized.
My favorite band. I understand your enjoyment on the John Mitchell solo. Cheers from France!
The Visitor is their most iconic album sofar..it's a concept album. The solo on this track is a reprise, it's from the song The Hanging Tree from this same Visitor album..Listen to Crack in the Ice also from the Visitor. 👍

Gotta be da cutest wittle doggie in da world... oh...yes he is ! 🐶
Best of luck w/ the new wittle rocker😉
Request: David Bowie -
Diamond Dogs 😆
Diamond Dogs! Oh perfect!!!! Thanks for the creative note. Making us laugh out loud. KnR.
I'm getting really big Dave Gilmour vibes from that solo. Very cute pup btw, just watch out for chewed headphone wires😄.
ALRIGHT!!! PROG DOG NIGHT!!! :-) What a Cutie!! :-)
Winston....He is all that!!!! We all welcome him to our very large and wonderful family!!!! That means you!

What an awesome looking dog :D
Bit of a neo prog rock supergroup.
Arguably The Visitor and Immortal? are the two albums you want to get your ears around if you liked this track.

Agreed. We listened to it on a road trip to see dream theater in Orlando last spring
@@Kel.N.RichReactions Did you happen you record it for UA-cam?
It proves that a solo does not have to be 1000 mph to be brilliant. I'm a total metalhead but i love prog also. This guys guitar just sings 🤘🤘

One of the best guitar solo of the history
I want strongly suggest you Immortal album from Arena , Butterfly Man and Moviedrome are out of this world masterpieces
And Clive Nolan is from Pendragon on keys! This band is superb and gets better with each release.
Listen to Love over Fear by the Pendies!
Frost* - Heartstrings (Live in Studio)
Crying for help part 4 please.
In the studio version, steve rothery from marillion plays the guitar, brilliant.
Wow, hadn't come across them before,, but will definitely be looking out for Arena in future.
Of course, you know you've blown it now (never share the shot with children or young animals) because Winston has stolen the show. :-)
Oh yes. We understand ! It’s ok for him to be top dog for awhile. We’re just here for the music 🐶🤟
The singer was also in the band Cats in Space.
was.... not anymore
That's what I said.
The band reminds me of Genesis, "trick of the tail" or "then there were three." :-)
Puppy breath, nothing better in the world.
unless rubbing on a puppy belly. :-)
Maybe a tie with 'baby head".
Last album was a return to form with this latest singer. Previous singers had more progressive epics such as this song and one of my favorite songs moviedrome or the album contagion.
Looks like John Jowitt on bass and bass pedals, talented musician who I saw play with I.Q. on a few occasions when he was in the band.
John Mitchell has played on some of my stuff....
Wicked!!!!
Ooohhh is this the famous Lee Abraham that was part of Sean Filkins' solo project? 💕

Clive Nolan the keyboardist also with Pendragon.

very good
Have you done anything by Spock's Beard? If not, you absolutly should. Anything up to the "Snow" album is pure gold.
Check out modern throw back prog band called Wobbler. React to the song called In Orbit. Fantastic stuff!!
