Regarding the prison bucket list item: Not quite prison and also not quite Sweden, but I managed to get a ride in a Norwegian police van by accidentally hiking on the Norwegian highway early in the morning. Being used to the German Autobahn and its signs, we thought it was a regular road. Apparently someone called the police on us. They were very friendly and gave us a ride to our destination. A Taxi for free with a great anecdote on top! 10/10 would recommend.
Hi from Norrbotten, North Sweden 🇸🇪 my husband is also from the US. Just popping in to say hi! Where are you located? The rocks are beautiful there lol
Okay. It's been three months and I"m pretty sure you haven't turned into a meatball, the Swedish secret service hasn't arrested you so, where are you? Hoping you're well.
For your bucket list: Try to experience as many seasonal traditions as possible together with locals. Valborg (April 30) and Midsommar (mid July) usually have local celebrations that you can just come by and participate without paying or booking a place. Lucia (December 13) is usually indoors, so you might have to book a ticket. Try to celebrate Easter and Christmas with your in-laws. Try the different foods and pastries associated with different times of the year, like semla in early spring, lussekatt in December, strawberry cake at midsummer, julbord at Christmas.
Yay you saved the back of your yard for wildflowers!??! That's awesome! As long as you stay safe, I'd love to see you try to go by boat to Öland! I guess the easiest way to get to see a prison is to become friends with a criminal, so you can visit them! A great nature spot I can personally recommend in a neighboring county from you is *Skurugata,* (double sided ravine) make sure to go soon or in the fall because in summertime there's literally a queue of tourists through the entire thing and you really want to be alone there, also Eksjö old town. You definitely want to pass by *Norra Kvill* national park and meet the ancient oak tree, *kvilleken* on the way! It's on it's last limb so pay it a visit soon. 🌳 *But beware, the area around Norra Kvill is full of trolls!* There's also *Store Mosse* ("Big marsh") a little south near Värnamo. I recommend Gotland and obviously Öland (allvaret). Visiting the island *Visingsö* in the lake Vättern to see the forest of super tall and old oak trees planted to become epic war ships, also Gränna for traditional sweets. Any beech forest you can find (I see Bokenäs close to you). Also travelling around in the Stockholm Archipelago's on a warm summer's day and I hear the Vasa museum is great.
@@skapaallt You might be interested in *the borderland* (.se) "Sweden's largest participatory festival", a burning man type thing where everyone builds the festival together. It should be right up your alley. It's usually in august but it's very limited access and the ticket lottery is closed for this year. It's just outside of Eksjö. Maybe next year??
I had no idea you made this new channel, so I'm really happy I got recommended this! You are so lovely as always, and following you on this journey is super cool! You have inspired me to actually use my eyes and appreciate the little things around me :) Hope you're doing good.
A new video, nice! I don't think you need to be to concerned about getting passive aggresive notes about your lawn. I suppose it can happen, but I've never heard of anybody getting a note for that reason. And right now there is a lot of talk about letting a part of your garden grow wild to help the pollinators and flowers that are getting rare.
The only cases I can think of it was for allowing 'maskrosor' (dandelions) grow freely and that was up front and not by a note. But pretty much as long as you don't let 'maskrosor' grow completly free to spread to the neigbours or make it into scrap yard (a few former cars are OK but no more than that) I do not think anyone will complain.
i would recommend Fulufjället, it has the oldest tree in the world and swedens highest freefalling waterfall. i would also recommend sarek and abisko nationalpark. Borgahällan in Jämtland is a beutiful mountain that i would recommend aswell. if your intrested in historic places i would recommend Eketorps borg on öland and also Visby on gotland. one last thing i would recommend is Slåttdalsskrevan in höga kusten. im happy to see that your back and feeling well again.
Interesting adventure! And cool seeing sweden from another perspective. A few tips to consider, since you talk about foraging, is to make sure you are careful with mushrooms! Learn a lot, and only go for the safe choices in the beginning! Like chantarelles that aren't easily mixed up with poisonous mushrooms. There are many kinds that are actually deadly or at least dangerous! There are cases of immigrants without local knowledge actually dying from mushrooms they had foraged. Also, there are a lot of tics in your area of sweden. So might be a good idea to get vaccinated against TBE.
You can grow moss by mixing moss with beer and brush the mixture where you want the moss, then spray the area with water. And after that water it every day until the moss starts growing. You should try island hopping in the Stockholm archipelago, if you're feeling adventurous you could do it with a kayak but there's plenty of ferries to the larger islands.
Yes, I've gotten that recommendation, as well as mixing with filmjölk... I just don't have a blender so I've started with the most simple test :P Island hopping sounds fun!
Dude, you're like a pair of new eyes! You see things I don't see anymore. Congrats getting into the local paper on the frontpage! The rest of us have to do crazy things to end up there. There are a lot of beautiful places to see. Let me know next winter if you want to go ice skating or ice sailing, great places for that around where me and my family live, some northern lights too. But I know the south better. Would be fun to guide you and I got some spare time atm. Let me know. Cheers!
A couple of must-sees: Gotska sandön and blå jungfrun (Two really beatiful islands with quite special nature). Karlskrona (a bit of a time capsule of the military, fortifications, rope walk, and such, from the 19th century). The mountains up north (fjällen). There are lots and lots of cottages , so no need to bring a tent or camping stove. And while at it, pop over to Norway, it works basically the same there. (But check out the details, at least when I hiked in Norway, some cottages were unmanned and locked, so you needed to borrow a key from the Tourist board in advance). Tyresta national park, just south of Stockholm, a forest that has been basically untouched by humans for 100 years or so. I could go on forever, just the castles/pallaces would fill a whole page
12:24 same thing happened to me when I moved from Buffalo to Borlänge in 1997! (Local Newspaper.) and again when we in Buffalo got 7ft of snow in November 2014 we got in expressen and aftonbladet!
The cable organiser is perfect for the plants, much better than string :D they actually sell the same thing designed for plants and green. also, grats on the article :D
buying a property and living there is my dream and seeying you do it brings joy to me! I do hope your coming back to your youtube journey and show us your progress or experiences. As a ex youtuber your thumbnails need to be more catchy just a tip if the views dropping are the reason :))))))))))) Hope to see ya back soon
O also missed the northern lights. I went out a few times and saw nothing. The next day I see my neighbor's got a video up on youtube. It was all about the timing. However, I did catch the solar eclipse back on April 8th and that was amazing!
I am enjoying these videos. I am also sort of envious of the big move you've made. It'd be nice to be away from the election season that is ramping up in the U.S.
For hedgehogs, and other wild life, create a water feature in your garden. Allowing cats, birds and hedgehogs to drink fresh water. It might even be an idea for a public artwork. Something to collect rainwater on some type of roof/canopy and slowly make it available for wildlife. Could test it out in your garden first. Could be high-tech with solar panels, filters and pumps. Or passive, just collecting. Or somewhere in between with a clever balancing gravity regulated water supply. Also consider building some hedgehog nests. I have built four, placed under balconies in two apartment houses. Hedgehogs every year.
I got a hedgehog in my hedge. It grunts and make other noises. Sometimes i see it in the day but mostly it's night active. If one would find a good home in your garden it would stay. Food and water is probably not nessesary, just a dry and safe home under a bush with a lot of dry leaves and twigs.
Nice list! Happy to take you ice skating in Trondheim Norway coming winter. However, there is only a very short window of opportunity for any particular lake - from the ice is thick enough (5'ish cm) until the snow comes, usually a week or two in December-January. But you are indeed right, it is fantastic!
I spent 6 weeks in Sala this year (Januari - Mars) and the lake had an ice layer thick enough for cars to clear the snow and small planes landing on it. It was a weird feeling seeing them coming down and taking off again. So you don't have to go that far north for that!
Hi, you talking good little swedish in the video even you going SFI class. Im living in Sweden as well and not far from you in Ostkusten of north . and Im new follower of your channel as well.
4:16 the skullcap of a fish, note the crest for the jaw muscles. Pretty big fish that far inland, do you have White-Tailed Eagles around? Bears have a habit to bite off the skulls of fish but they're not too common.
Cool! Apparently the white-tailed eagle is fairly common here so you may be on to something! I've also seen a ton of swans torn apart... I wonder if that's also their doing
@@skapaallt It's plausible I guess, usually it's foxes or lynxes that do that, but it's not as if White-Tailed eagles don't eat swans if they can, they're just a bit big for them.
can relate about the hedgehogs, they are cute, but fair warning: If there are more than one of them they can make the most terrifying noises when fighting/lovemaking/scaring competition away.
