    I just saw your videos for the first time today. I watched your balsa wood series form 2012 and then this one. Wow, production value and tools have changed a lot. There is a humor feel to your voice over. Good stuff!

    I've had other BPM baits ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!

    Paul what can I say…. just magic!!! We left ourselves saying something about my preference for your wood lures work. But I have to admit that even with other materials your projects are precise and fantastic as well

      Yep i am always thinking about making wooden lures when i am using plastic and when carving wood i come up with ideas for plastic lures. But this is a lure i could of made from wood as easily, i think the main thing that drew me to this plastic was colour and trying to 'reduce to max' the time on the finish but end up with something i am happy with. Thanks

      If only i could sneak some bass into the local lake, I really wanted to make this lure because and try it on pike because it is almost the total opposite of what a pike lure should be; it does almost nothing and the hardest part when using it is to resist the urge to jerk it along, but i caught a pike tonight with it by just doing a very slow steady retrieve and i caught a brown trout in the same way so i am almost convinced. Thanks

I have arranged to do some filming at a company that makes really beautiful rod blanks and finished rods, so i will be buying a blank from them and getting some expert advice on building it for a series or vids. Lathe and plastic wise i still have some projects to do in this series and maybe try some different stuff. Thanks

    Incredible video Paul. What fish will you target with this lure? The cicada season is about to start here in Australia, have you ever made a cicada lure? We have some Aussie companies that make some that do pretty well on the local bass.

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  10 років тому

      I made this to use this in pin clear water for trout, pike or possibly perch. On the first session i caught a brown trout, which at the place as was fishing is release in the water or catch and release only. But since then every time i have been fishing it has been raining and muddying up the water. thanks

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  10 років тому

      I have not made a Cicada lure but it is something i am interested in, we don't get a lot of big insects over here, but i like the range of Aussie lures they stand out on there own a little and i may try and make some to see how they do over here.

    does it really stands strong to bigger fishes given that you've used screw eyes instead of through-wire IN FOAM ? Is that foam so solid that doesn't break when a pike is twisting and turning?

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  8 років тому

      if a pike twists and turns i am guessing the line twists and turns before anything, pike do not as far as i am aware own tools and workshops

    • @bogdanRules
      @bogdanRules 8 років тому

      Pretty much true, but when a big fish shake his head trying to ditch the lure the material tensile strength is put to the test, even more if you have the reel drag tighten. So I'm guessing that you didn't have any problems with that setup anyways

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  8 років тому

      you would still be holding a fishing rod so both you and the rod would absorb some of the shock

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman

      Nick Lankford I bought this as an off cut from a sign printing shop it was £3, for a4, i have not used styrofoam to make lures, this pvc foam is a lot tougher than that. But i think with Styrofoam some of the solvents included in some of the resins will eat into it, I would check the data sheet of an epoxy resin to see if it will work. Thanks

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  10 років тому

      It is one of the best plastics i have put a screw in, it really has a hold far beyond most woods, i put some epoxy into the screw holds just to stop the eyes rotating over time. A bit like yourself i expected it to be a bit spongy but it is as tough as old boots, maybe tougher. It would be a nice material to make some glide baits out of and then i would probably sandwich a through wire between two sides.Thanks

    • @bogdanRules
      @bogdanRules 10 років тому

      ***** It's really amazing that it holds without a through wire. You made me curious, I'll try using it and hopefully I can get something similar in quality with your board....let's see what Romanian market has to offer :) . It definitely looks more alike balsa than other stronger woods but if you tested it you really know best. I wonder what a pike has to say about it :P

    • @bigcheesedog2645
      @bigcheesedog2645 10 років тому

      ***** How would you accomplish the through wire, carved in or melted in. I could see heating one side, pressing the wire in like if it was balsa, heating the other side and pressing the two halves together. I do wonder if the sides would bond? Do you think the material could be used to make sinking version of your balsa minnow?

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  10 років тому

      Yes i have made minnow lures using the two haves method and carved out for the wire and glued together using solvent weld or pipe cement or even superglue works well. This a very buoyant material something it is just on this lure i made a very thin profile and overloaded with hardware to make it sink. I have no tried bonding this material with heat as glues do so well.

      This material is far tougher than wood and hold screws much better plus it doesn't rot. after all wallplugs are made from plastic . If you look at a commercially made prop baits the screw eyes are a lot shorter and the material is seldom solid. I have already caught pike on this lure, and other lures made from the same material. I tend to test the hell out of things before i make videos, if i didn't i could churn out a video every few days. Th\anks

      +David Harvey i don't know to be honest, it is a little denser the balsa but it is something i have never measured

    hi paul (or any other experienced lure makers) what would you consider to be the most important tools that someone starting out should have? iv tried my hand at jerkbaits using a jig saw and an angle grinder with a soft disc on. but i want to bring the standards of my lures up. any an all advice is welcomed.

      +Mr. L. Murray That is a hard one, in honesty when i started lure making I had a file, some sandpaper, and Stanley knife and hand paints, but i learnt a lot using them before making the leap to power tools. At the moment i am making a lure that i am hoping will be a step up from what i normally make and I doubt i will use anything but scissor knives and some cheap dental tools. But for wood lures the two tools I use the most are the band-saw and the airbrush/compressor kit.

    So have you had any luck using the Spybaiting technique? I want to try it in our local lakes here in Oklahoma, but most are not clear and tend to have muddy water.

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  9 років тому

      creekandseminole I have been surprised a few times with this lure and caught a few but not large pike, it is one of those lures that for me is not really a first choice but something I tend to catch on when nothing else is doing the business

      ***** I just got back into fishing after stopping for several years. After doing research on good lures (my old tackle melted and rusted) and research on new techniques, Spybaiting seemed to come up often.
      Another technique is using an umbrella rig and simply trolling in large lakes. Here in Oklahoma we have a huge lake we share with Texas called Lake Texoma. The main fish to catch there is Striper Bass. I know it seems lazy, but we just cast out very long lines with rubber shad bait and simply troll until we get a catch.
      Fish guides make their living taking people out on the lake to fish. We one time caught our lake limit in an hour.

    Foil tape is some strong stuff. I was bored at work and wrapped a screwdriver handle with it. Immediately I tried to remove it. that was no easy task.
