You mean the sound crew, probably the most astonishing and most talented anywhere, combining electronic instruments and a whole orchestra, not to mention the adjustments on the choir mics... And totally spot on!
We have to admit though that there are some post production, in studio, adjustments... Nevertheless, still amazing

To this day it amazes me that a band that would be casted aside for back in the day by how ridiculous it sounded compared to the trend can slap it back in a haters face and get an entire orchestra to back them during a live set. For y'all who say this isn't metal, do yourself a favor and learn the value of music. Because being able to pull this sound off is world crushing and high class

When was Dimmu Borg "casted away"? They were always one of the largest black metal bands. They aren't considered one of the second wave Norwegian black metal bands, like Mayhem, Emperor, Satyricon, Immortal are though, and they don't sound like those bands, so it's pretty normal for people that enjoy that type of metal to not automatically enjoy Dimmu Borgir too, because is just another thing all together, but they were always a huge band.

For all saying the choir couldn't match Vortex:
Did it ever occur to you that perhaps they were going for a choir sound instead of a soloist sound because, I don't know, they had an entire choir at their disposal and wanted to use that instead of attempting to recreate something that nobody would be satisfied with anyway? In terms of power and clarity, yes the choir doesn't match up (also not loud enough - engineering issue) but could Vortex sing all parts at the same time? - no, I don't think so.
Comparing Vortex's ability vs the choir's ability isn't the same as comparing Vortex's purpose in the original track vs the choir's purpose during this performance.

This is more akin to symphonic heavy metal than black metal. Technically it can be considered Symphonic black metal but the only black metal influence left is the vocal style. Not so much the way the song is written/played. Their old stuff however... brutal. Puritanical and Spiritual Black Dimension is more of my taste.
I'm not saying it's bad or anything. I like it too for the most part.

I discovered this concert a while ago while listening to some "old-timey" music (Six Feet Under, Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, you know).
At the time I thought "Wow, they did it live with an orchestra" - but after some reconsideration, this live version just has this magic vibe that certainly isn't there on the album!
Especially the drums in relation to the orchestra - I can't put my finger on it. Some notes are a little stretched out but there's so much more 'togetherness'.
On the studio version, all the time-keeping is perfect but it feels like all the tracks were recorded at different times of year compared to this - I really like this live-vibe better than technical perfection (which there is still enough of).
The brass feels more menacing.. The choir! It sounds so much warmer, there's so much more contrast, and, imo, it's just mixed in better than on the album.
I can only admire this work 😳

    Lyrics:
The battle raged on and on
Fuelled by the venom of hatred for men
Consistently, without the eyes to see
By those who revel in sewer equally
We, the prosperity of the future seal
Cloaked by the thunders of the north wind
    Born to capture
The essence of the trails of our kind
Zero tolerance must be issued forth
    Behind the enemy's line
    So it shall be written
And so it shall be done
Zero tolerance must be issued forth
    Behind the enemy's line
    So it shall be written
And so it shall be done
The battle raged on and on
Fuelled by the venom of hatred for men
Consistently, without the eyes to see
By those who revel in sewer equally
We, the prosperity of the future seal
Cloaked by the thunders of the north wind
    Born to capture
The essence of the trails of our kind
Discover and conceive the secret wealth
And pass it unto your breed
    Become your own congregation
Measure the sovereignty of its invigoration
We, who not deny the animal of our nature
We, who yearn to preserve our liberation
We, who face darkness in our hearts with a solemn fire
We, who aspire to the truth and pursue its strength
Are we not the undisputed prodigy of warfare
Fearing all the mediocrity that they possess?
Should we not hunt the bastards down with our might
Reinforce and claim the throne that is rightfully ours?
Consider the god we could be without the grace
    Once and for all
Diminish the sub principle and leave its toxic trace
    Once and for all
