LYRICS
Led to the river
Midsummer I wave
A 'V' of black swans
On with hope to the grave
And through red September
When skies fire-paved
I begged you appear
Like a thorn for the holy ones
Cold was my soul
Untold was the pain
I faced, when you left me
A rose in the rain
So I swore to the razor
That never, enchained
Would your dark nails of faith
Be pushed through my veins again
Bared on your tomb
I am a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever soon
Come above unto me?
For once upon a time
From the binds of your loneliness
I could always find
The right slot for your sacred key
Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart that barless prison
Discolors all with tunnel vision
Sunsetter, nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, this vampiric addiction
To her alone in full submission
None better, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine girl
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
My nymphetamine girl
Wracked with your charm, I'm circled like prey
Back in the forest where whispers persuade
More sugar trails, more white lady laid
Than pillars of salt
Fall to my arms
Hold their mesmeric sway
And dance out to the moon
As we did in those golden days
Christening stars
I remember the way
We were needle and spoon
Mislaid in the burning hay
Bared on your tomb
I am a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever swoon
Come above unto me?
For once upon a time
From the bind of your holiness
I could always find
The right slot for your sacred key
Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart that barless prison
Discolors all with tunnel vision
Sunsetter, nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, this vampiric addiction
To her alone in full submission
None better, nymphetamine
Sunsetter, nymphetamine
None better, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
Nymphetamine girl
Nymphetamine, nymphetamine
My nymphetamine girl

I met Dani filth when I was 12 and I was so starstruck that I literally could not say a word. I've heard he's a huge diva but surprisingly has remained unproblematic and has remained a metal icon. Folks who were haters in the past... man I wish I hadn't listened to them!!!! I will always look so fondly on my metal days. Black metal, extreme metal, thrash metal, symphonic black metal.... who cares? This song almost won a Grammy. ICONIC!!!!!!! FUCKING GOLD!!!!
Such a great song. Liv Kristine’s voice is just angelic.
The whole first album of Leaves' Eyes (Liv's band) was absolutely fantastic. That album captured the beauty and the beast easthetic beautifully.
@@casperado666 I would say for me 2 albums of Leaves' Eyes and two first Theatre of Tragedy albums my all time favourite.
@@JR-sx3gl I didn't like Elegy that much (i think that was the second one?). There were some tunes on that one which i loved. I just wasn't blown away by it. But that's the problem if a band sets their bar very high with their first record! :D Thanks for the tip with ToT, I only listened to few of their songs and smh they never really impressed me. Gotta take the time to listen to both of those albums as soon as the war is over and Putin is dead. Cheers from Ukraine.
@@casperado666 Vinland Saga is the second one, which is quite fitting for a warrior. Wishing you and your country strength, man.
There's a band called The Project Hate MCMXCIX that had a female vocalist named Joanna Enckell I think that was really angelic. It's amazing when the harshes and angelic like singing merge.
The blonde woman really balances out the aggressive vocals by the guy. Filmography is excellent. Great main riff. Probably my fav cradle of filth song so far.

Dark, haunting and beautiful. This is an exquisite example of a song that I would give to someone who wanted to get into black metal.
Cradle or Filth has the most beautiful lyrics of any band I have ever listened to. It doesn't hurt that Dani has an English degree (like me!) The words he uses brings the song to life, and you can close your eyes and visualize every word he sings! Who knew metal could be so illustrative, so romantic!!
I dunno. I mean, I love Cruelty & the Beast to listen to, but I tried reading the lyrics and had to give up as they're just too daft. But, I've always liked music more than lyrics anyway so prefer the overall sound, and it's good that the lyrics work for those who like them more than I do.

Lyrics
Led to the river midsummer, I wave
A "V" of black swans on, with hope, to the grave
And through red September, with skies fire-paved
I begged you appear like a thorn for the holy ones
Cold was my soul and untold was the pain

So I swore to the razor that never enchained
Would your dark nails of faith be pushed through my veins again
Bared on your tomb, I'm a prayer for your loneliness
And would you ever soon come above unto me?
For once upon a time, from the binds of your lowliness
I could always find the right slot for your sacred key
Six feet deep is the incision
In my heart, that barless prison
Discolors all with tunnel vision
(Sunsetter) Nymphetamine
Sick and weak from my condition
This lust, this vampiric addiction
To her alone in full submission

I've been listening ever since iw was little, my mom listens to this kind of music and I love it. Its so beautiful, this and mother of abomination will always have a place in my heart
I normally don't like songs where the vocals are screamed like this, but for some reason this song is in my head.
You don't like the screaming because you're not used to it, if you give it a chance and listen to a song a couple of times, you'll get used to the screaming and you'll love it. I used to hate screaming like you, but now it's one of my favorite genres
***** Totally right. For the longest time, Phil Anselmo was the heaviest I cared for. Then I had a room mate who constantly played hardcore and death metal. I have always liked some classical music, so the music appealed to me right away, but "If only the singer would shut the fuck up". Before long, Darkest Hour, Something Must Die, and Black Dahlia murder were some of my favorites, vocals and all, and over a decade later, still are. This was an easy transgression as I was already really into thrash. Davey's vocals still haven't grown on me over the years, but I still listen to them. To "TimedRevolver". If you like this but don't like the vocals much, you may want to check out Nightwish.
James Windolf I actually do like Nightwish.
As for the vocals, I don't mind the screaming if the song has some form of melody. Slipknot would be a good example, i think.
Corey does a lot of screaming, but he adds in melody too.
TimedRevolver If you have not heard or listen to them: Five finger death punch do the same, but in some songs it's just screaming while others it's both melody and scream or just meldoy.
OfficalRavoos I like Five Finger Death Punch. Far Frome Home and Undone are awesome, as is Over and Under It, which is the perfect example of what I like; the mix of screaming with a melodic chorus.
Good god... rediscovered tthis after ages...still kicks the right chords.. immortal stuff..
I’m crying listening to this song
This is so nostalgic😭I wanna be teenager again,Good old days
Eleven years later and this remains one of the wonders of the world
u should check albums from 90s to reconsider what u wrotte
Song is 15 yrs old. I went to see them when they released this cd. I was 17
Leandro W9 totally fuckin agree man
It's not bad, but its far too generic to call it a wonder of the world, this sounds like a million other bands going back decades
Dani writes like Shakespeare esp. "Cruelty and the Beast". The band's songwriting skills put the biggest , baddest Black in Metal.
