    Great job, in our district if there is a car or obstacle in the circle, we turn towards it so that our back end is clear because it’s easier to see out the front. Great video

    If you use the parking brake it will take the pressure off the turning tires as the parking brake applies to the rear four tires.

    Remember that distance in front between you and the object you are trying to avoid helps in the dark

    I’ve seen buses go close to the circumference of a cul-de-sac and Sometimes they don’t need to back but how could you get too close to the edge and how could you have no place to go if you got the circumference of the cul-de-sac?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 роки тому +2

      Cul-de-sac's can vary in size. Many of the cultural-de-sac's in the district I drive for, are quite small. When you attempt to complete the cut-de-sac in the outer perimeter, by staying on the very edge of the cul-de-sac, you increase the potential for backing into something along the perimeters edge, like a mailbox, light post, or fire plug.

    When Turning, You Should Use Your Cross View Mirrors To Know How Close You Are To The Curb Line. It Doesn’t Make The Property Owners Happy If You Enter On Property. They Might Believe It Might Be An Accident Though.

    That's not true. My route has 2 culd e sacs and I had a International IC CE 78 passenger bus and I could go in a circle around the loop and not have to back up at all

      Most culdesac’s vary in size. The three point turn is will get you out of a small culdesac easily, without multiple backings. The three point turn is considered best practice when maneuvering around culdesacs.

      Was gonna say I've even fit 45 foot motorcoaches in cul de sacs.. even those with decoration things in the center. Lets say it wasn't fun but nevertheless thanks to my awesome crew and not getting stressed and keep it professional I got it out 😎

    I try to keep parked cars in front of me so I'm backing away from them. It's less disastrous in the dark to mow down a mailbox than to hit a car. Fortunately though, as I drive a 30' special needs bus, I can spin around turning circles without reversing.

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 роки тому +1

      If I find myself in a Culver’s-de-sac with multiple obstacles, I will aim for a driveway behind me. Turn around in the dark are always exciting, and keeping cars in front of you, would definitely be advisable. 😊

      @raisagorbachov 3 роки тому

      @@SchoolBusSass I gather some of the newer Thomas busses have reversing cameras. A friend of mine used to driving those had to drive a spare bus and it didn't have a reversing camera so she ended up mowing down a stop sign.
      3 times on corner out in the countryside nailed me. 1st time I got stuck in soft sand (it was a dirt track). 2nd time I had a puncture. 3rd time I heard the back bumper tap the stop sign as I was reversing so I pulled forward but it had slipped in front of the bumper and pulled forward, smashing a window. Oh the fun we have!

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately none of the busses in our fleet are equipped with back up cameras, but I was fortunate to drive a BlueBird transit, in a neighboring district that does have some of their busses equipped with back up cameras. I really hope this option will become standard equipment in the near future. Country turnaround s can be really challenging, perhaps it may be time to put out some tips on maneuvering on country roads.

    Why Do Your Buses Have To Blast The Horn Before They Back If They Have The Alarm That Sounds In Reverse?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 роки тому +3

      Best practice is to use your horn in addition to the audible back up sound. Pre-service, in Ohio, recommends both, before backing. Procedures may vary based on location. Check local ordinances, for specific policy. Your schools district policy can also require this as an additional safety measure.

      I would maybe like to be a school bus driver, I think all buses should have reverse alarms and mine will too because you do not want to hit someone or something.

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  3 роки тому +3

      I would like all school busses to be equipped with back up cameras. They are standard on most cars today, it’s even more important for busses to have them. I’m thrilled to learn you are thinking of becoming a school bus driver. It is a journey like no other, and has been the most fun and rewarding job I have ever had. If I can assist you in this goal, please let me know. All the best to you in 2021. ☺️
