This song makes me sad: she really did look everywhere and never did find anyone who loved her the way she needed to be loved. Great perfomance though...as always.

She died not too long after doing this concert from an accidental heroin overdose. So sad. I'm 69 years old and I've heard a lot of female singers but no other female singer comes close to Janice in my opinion. I was 17 when she did this concert. You're an incredible reactor!

Sometimes there are angels among us. Perfectly stated. This particular angel has been speaking to me since I was in high school. I'll never forget the day she died and I heard it in art class. How wonderful that across the years people are still discovering her and appreciating her talent and sincerity. She was one of those rare people where it was not a performance, it was their life. If you ever read about her life, you will see what an intelligent person she was, who was ostracized in high school because she stuck up for civil rights and was called some vile names. She was a true Rebel and a brave soul. I think people like this, rare, as you've indicated, are just too fragile for any type of longevity on this Earth. They're like a comet, they streak across the sky and obliterate everyone else and then plunge Into darkness. Beautiful reaction.

This is my FAVORITE song of hers. I was alone and troubled for a very long time and this song embodies that lonely despair. It makes me so sad for her that she never found that place. I have a difficult time separating myself from the song, so I'm not sure if it's really her best work or if that's my opinion. But it is the saddest, loneliest, most relatable song and absolutely beautiful, too.

She was an angel, and always spoke of the artists that she loved and who she was influenced by - Bessie Smith, Odetta, Leadbelly, Otis Redding, Tina Turner, Etta James. Great reaction to her singing.

I have to tell you I have watched this reaction several times, I love it so much. I had never heard this song before and I thought I knew all her songs. Growing up I listened to her through my parents record albums. I saw my 71 year old father recently and showed him this performance and he had never heard it either. I love your reaction so much because it is so clearly obvious that you feel her raw beautiful talent. Your appreciation is like no other reactor I've seen. Thank you and Bless you!!!

Sadly, it wasn’t just the technology of the time, it was The Kozmic Blues Band themselves. They were often out of tune, out of sync, which they were criticized for constantly by the music press back in the day. Her next and final band, Full Tilt Boogie, were a much tighter working unit, and they knew how to swing underneath Janis and support her. The tragic thing is that we will never know what heights they could have achieved, as poor Janis died before their first album together was even finished: she never got to add the vocals to the aptly named “Buried Alive In The Blues”

I agree john, kosmic was horrible! Full Tilt was better but in my opinion still left something to be desired. I first heard Janis when I was in the Navy in 1968. A Sunday morning was woken to the sound of a woman screaming and I have loved her since then. I was devastated when I heard of her passing.

Well said in the end! His reactions are epic as well, he has what they referred to during old Hollywood years as the "rubber-face". My great great grandpa Luis Alberni was the king of the rubberface with his incredible mobile expressions which brought millions upon millions laughter during the years of ww1, ww2 and the great depression. My papa is a great unsung hero of the classic cinema, born on the day of october 4th, the same date to the night Janis Joplin took her final breath on earth, except in 1886. I was born in 1986. Thank you for giving such honour to my most beloved musical communicator. she will forever communicate with the world. Can you believe that even still she is misunderstood and still gets a bad rap from people that just don't realize how special she really was! She came to me on 3 different occasions as a child, and on all 3 occasions my body tingled and my spirit uplifted, and i ached for her, i cried all 3 times, and on the 3rd time i discovered her name. I ran home to ask my Nana about her, and my Nana mentioned the band Big Brother and the holding company and told me about a time in West Hollywood at a gay bar when Janis came up to her so polite and shook her hand and introduced herself, my Nana's girlfriends friend was good friends with Janis. My grandma was high on LSD and last remembers seeing just Janis alone, just lost, and lonely in the club, and remembers just feeling so sad for her. Janis was an angel on earth!

I have been really curious to see what other people thought of it. So thank you so much for having a listen. I think the first time I heard this; I thought 'this is Janis'. Good to see you back. I just want to say that I really appreciate all the variety you bring to your channel. I really want to tell you about an exciting young artist that you have probably never heard of, but many in the music industry believe she will be a legend some day. Her name is *Angelina Jordan* and she is from Norway. Your viewers seem to appreciate the greatness that used to be in music, and I think they will appreciate what she is trying to bring back to music. Please do a reaction to her singing the Screamin' Jay Hawkins version of "I Put a Spell on You" at only 9 years old... do not let the age fool you. The amount of old soul this young girl pours into this performance will blow your mind... ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html
I promise you will not be disappointed. To give you an idea of the level of talent we are talking about here... When Quincy Jones heard Angelina sing, he said she was the next "One"... the last time he said that was about a young Aretha Franklin. That should be all you need to tell you how special this girl is. So don't miss out on the rare privilege to discover her and watch her career from the very beginning. She is only 13 now and has already covered over 100 songs from artists like Billie Holiday, Etta James, and many more greats from music history.

Your exactly right on all counts about the technology of the time, but in a basic sort of context, live, equals flaws, and mistakes as opposed to a studio recording session. In a live spot, you get a grittiness and raw reality, that you can't capture in the studio. It's wonderful, flaws and all. That's why I never liked it when Hollywood tried to "colorize" old classic movies from the 1930s and 40s. It just isn't right in my mind. You can't improve on the original classic.
    Thanks my Friend
