As an Asian dude, we don’t get a lot of representation outside of samurai or martial arts games so I was bummed at first. Just like how Boots said he was gonna play because there’s a brother in it, I’ve done the same with games like GTA Chinatown Stories and Sleeping Dogs. It’s ok to want to see ppl that look like you in games. I think the reason people like full gameplays is so they can watch the full series when it’s complete.. Ik i definitely love hitting the playlist for full gameplays when I’m doing something or driving long distances.

So he may not have been a SamuraÏ in the traditional term but he did exist. And they are making a game so within the time period they are going to invent things, change things and interpret things. Also I know a lot of people hated the game and the character, but the lead of Forspoken which came out just last year was Black too. I think it’s refreshing to introduce a new character that is both unique and symbolic of how diverse strong heroes can look. Bigotry and wanton discrimination are being normalized. Too many negative voices are showing up oppressing diverse depictions of characters in video games and movies. It’s not 1980s or 90s or early 00s, where Caucasian characters dominated the multimedia landscape, it’s 2024. The media we consume should reflect how diverse we are. The main issue people have is that this is the first AC game set in feudal japan. So we expected to play as a male Japanese protagonist. Having Yasuke in the game isnt a problem. I played the first Assasins Creed and the last one they dropped they are fun but its all the same concept just different places. Ghost of Tsushima was amazing I beat that and the DLCs you should revisit. I'll definitely play this new one.

Officially served Oda Nobunaga, who is one of the most important person of Sengoku-Jidai(Samurai era), got paid as server, and had face to face contact with him. It was obviously different from ordinal Ashigaru(low-class non-samurai warrior). However, Yasuke didn't have important role at all. Didn't have Kanni(official rank appointed by Japanese Emperor), and any fight/achievement record. Most of famous "Samurai" had them. Therefore Some people say No. Both are fine. Nobody complained about Tom Cruise in the last samurai movie, a white guy going to feudal Japan, and made a samurai.. fictional character, but yasuke is a real person that came close to nagato! And has somewhat of a story…
While Cruise’s character, Nathan Algren, was fictional, he and several other important characters were all inspired by real people. Algren was based on Jules Brunet, a French military officer who played a key role in the events of that time. Ken Watanabe’s character, Katsumoto, was based on Saigo Takamori, another key figure of the era. Also, Algren was never made Samurai. They gave him a sword and told him he was cool, but he was never anything more than a captured enemy turned friend.
Also literally everyone complained. There’s like 10 ppl in the world who have seen the movie and understand that it’s not a “white savior” movie, it’s completely the opposite. The samurai and their culture/way of life save him. Every single time someone mentions it, what they’re really doing is rehashing the Paul Mooney bit about it from Chappelle’s Show.
That movie did get criticized a lot, and it was 20 years ago. He got his ass kicked throughout the movie and was never the leader, he served the leader and fought with them. And it was more about him learning their culture than going around killing people.

More recently than that, both of Deathloop’s (2021) main characters are Black. Also I know a lot of people hated the game and the character, but the lead of Forspoken which came out just last year was Black too. The main issue people have is that this is the first AC game set in feudal japan. So we expected to play as a male Japanese protagonist. Having Yasuke in the game isnt a problem. He could had been a mintor or companion. He could even have his own side story or DLC. We're just upset we didnt get to play as a Japanese man like we wanted and expected. Is it wrong to want to play as a Japanese man in a Japanese setting? Just imagine the first AC game set in aincent Africa and you play as a Chinese man. Everyone would be upset.

He's kinda. Officially served Oda Nobunaga, who is one of the most important person of Sengoku-Jidai(Samurai era), got paid as server, and had face to face contact with him.
It was obviously different from ordinal Ashigaru(low-class non-samurai warrior).
However, Yasuke didn't have important role at all.
Didn't have Kanni(official rank appointed by Japanese Emperor), and any fight/achievement record.
Most of famous "Samurai" had them.
Therefore Some people say No.
