The five basic necessities of a functional workshop: Sturdy Workbench, Solid Vise, Drill Press, Bench Grinder annnnd a never ending supply of “Elbow Grease!” Nice work on that antique, it looks like it’s now up for the challenge. Thanks for sharing✌🏼🤟🏼🤞🏼
Nice resto! I agree with C Peterson about not cleaning out the old grease from the gearbox, but you do some mighty fine work! I look forward to your next video. 😉
I just reviewed the footage and realised that although I actually did remove the grease , I didn't include the footage 🙄. I won't make that mistake again😎 . Glad you liked the video and thank you for your comment !
I initially thought it was where oil would to put to lubricate, but I think the end of the shaft spins on the ball bearing in there to keep it centralised - I would be interested if any knew for sure
I am so impressed! Newer tools don't seem to meet the standards of the classics. I actually have a old chainsaw that doesn't work anymore. I would love to donate it to you!
Hi from England Another one that's good on bakelite is furniture polish... I'd have probably replaced that old VIR cord with a modern equivalent though.. 😉
Bakelite was used for all kinds of things in that time period, fashion accessories, distributor caps, etc. Some women's bracelets sell in the thousands.
good to watch, but this is more of a cleaning and reassembly no? well and a polish too of course, but usually something is done other than that in a restore, no? i might be wrong, idk
noun 1. the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition. "the restoration of Andrew's sight" So, if everything is in a serviceable condition, I will reuse it. Unfortunately, I lost the video where I changed the power cord and repacked the grease, but oh well 🤷🏼♂️. Glad you liked it anyway 😎
Showing extreme close ups of every nut and bolt is not necessary. Being too close to the camera actually makes it hard to look at, especially at fast speeds. Pull back a little.
Nice job but just that! You really should have changed bearings or at least shown if they were in very good condition, old grease should have been cleaned out as well as surrounding area, you might have also thought to sharpen it and not cleaning up lock nuts is like mud on a beautiful new car! Which sadly leads me to wonder about the motor footage or did just not do it.
Certainly interesting videos, but I would like to slightly speed up the process. At least 18 minutes. I may well be wrong, because your author's idea is interesting and so far I have not seen a similar detailed process)
You assembled the blade stiffener on the wrong side of the blade and you didn't even sharpen the teeth of the blade. If you sharpened the teeth you would be amazed at what it could cut so easily. JMHO
Hi Keith, great comment. I can't wait to watch your restoration videos on here. You must have some amazing recordings of yourself repairing and restoring old tools and equipment, seeing as you are so knowledgeable on the subject. I can't wait to see your back catalogue of vintage repairs. I'm sure Fix it Restore it will take on board your valuable words of wisdom, and improve his performance at undertaking such tasks as these in the future. I am sure he has seen the error of his ways! Well Keith, I'm just going to go and watch your videos. I'm sure they are amazing! Fingers crossed in anticipation!
Hi Keith, it's me again! There must be some kind of mistake with UA-cam. I just went to view your masterfully knowledgeable videos on the subject of repairing and refurbing old tools and antiques, but alas, I could not locate them! I don't know what is happening, but if I were you, I would petition UA-cam and ask them what they have done with them! I mean, he are we, the general public, supposed to understand the magnitude of your wisdom on this intriguing subject matter if we cannot view the master in action? I mean, it's not like you are one of those arseholes who slags off someone who has actually took the time, effort and expense to put together and produce an informative video like this, when you haven't done anything as remotely talented in your own lifetime, spending your time criticizing others for something they haven't done themselves, is it Keith? I hope your amazing videos get reuploaded soon Keith so you can show the world your artistic flare for restoration that far surpasses everyone else. I think you deserve a medal for being so great! Infact, I'm just going to go set up a website and fan club in your honour, in anticipation of all the attention and praise you are due once everyone has seen your videos! I am in awe of all the pussy and fame you will be drawing in soon! Its going to be amazing. Much like when Kennedy was shot, the moon landings and when that girl called Kinga shoved a wine bottle up her twat 5 minutes after she entered the house on 'Big Brother', thee whole world will remember where they were when they first heard the name 'Keith Spencer Sr'. You are very much like a swift kick in the bollocks in that you take my breath away! All hail King Keith in all his majestical knowledge and wonderment.

Great work man...love it. We lost a part of our creative ingenuity when we stopped making thinks to last. Money got in the way of quality.
Unfortunately, yes it did!
That turned out looking pretty good! Cool piece there!

Really enjoy the channel. No BS restorations here. Keep it up mate
Thank you!
Just saw this tool being used on the TV show "Ratched" where a guy cuts his arm off with it!
wow i never knew Sunbeam made electric Hedge Trimmers that,s our company here in Australia awesome restoration there mate 10/10 well done
Thank you!
@@FixitRestoreit my pleasure mate
I have the exact same trimmer. Wish you would have shown the electrical part.
It was a pig to get out!
What a lovely looking old machine, they don’t make them like that anymore. Nice job.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Nice work!
thank you so much
That Jewelers rouge polishing makes that thing POP.
Yes it does!
Just wondering why you didn't clean up any of the hardware. ( nuts, bolts, screws, etc.)
Nice resto! I agree with C Peterson about not cleaning out the old grease from the gearbox, but you do some mighty fine work! I look forward to your next video. 😉

Nice work! Super scary looking tool!
thank you so much! It could be a horror prop!
Nice job! But you put the plate that cober the blade in the wrong side... Just a detail
Lol, thank you for pointing it out! I totally hadn't noticed 😎
Nice job colleague!⚒️⚒️⚒️💪
thank you so much!
Good restoration 👍👍👍👍👍
thank you so much!
any idea what that thing on the side is for? (below the handle)
I initially thought it was where oil would to put to lubricate, but I think the end of the shaft spins on the ball bearing in there to keep it centralised - I would be interested if any knew for sure
Enjoyed watching the restoration but did you have to test it on a live plant?
Just a trash sappling that would be thinned out anyway 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the explanation
I am so impressed! Newer tools don't seem to meet the standards of the classics. I actually have a old chainsaw that doesn't work anymore. I would love to donate it to you!
That would be awesome 😊! My email address is in the "about " section of the channel and I will be getting a p.o box pretty soon!
Ever thought of bolting your buffer to your work bench? Having it loose like that is dangerous!
Yes I have, trying to go modular due to lack of space
Even some pins into holes drilled into bench top would keep it from skating around. Pull them out between uses.
Hi from England
Another one that's good on bakelite is furniture polish...
I'd have probably replaced that old VIR cord with a modern equivalent though.. 😉
I will have to try that if i come across another tool with bakerlite!
you simply cannot kill old tools!
I know right! Thank you for your comment 😊
You put the tension plate on the comb side.
Yes I did, maybe I need to be more vigilant next time?!
@@FixitRestoreit I bet you were just checking to see if we were paying attention. 😀 Great work.
@@oneFreetinkerMan , you caught on to my plan 😁😉😎
How much
Not 1940's more like early 1960's. I used one just like that when I was a kid.
Agreed. My dad bought one around 62. I remember how hot that thing would get in your hands.
🤓
I think u should have zoomed in a little bit more. I almost saw what u did!
I'm experimenting with filming styles, check out my latest videos!
I wonder if Fix it knows he put the blade adjustment bolts in upside down.
Yes I do, if you check my community tab I posted a picture of it corrected 😁
Dude I've been less tense watching horror movies, than I was watching you work on that unsecured bench grinder.😬😬😬
Check out my newer videos, I clamp it now lol
Thank God
Bakelite was used for all kinds of things in that time period, fashion accessories, distributor caps, etc. Some women's bracelets sell in the thousands.
Certainly is weird to work with, I would say it's almost organic feeling!
It was a first attempt at a plastic that was somewhat heat resistant. It's garbage, to brittle.
Please please change the guard cover back. My OCD is going mad !!! Its not even the safety it just looks wrong after such a beautiful restoration!
I planned on changing it and posting a picture on my community page - for you sir I will get it done this week 😎
I do love your channel thanks OCD all better now thanks 😀
Ah the good ol' days when products only had 3 digits in their model number...😊😊😊
Yes! And you knew they would last a long while!
The only thing I saw u didn't do was grease the moving parts of the blade unless u did it off camera
I did, it was an earlier filming attempt, and I omitted alot of video footage, hopefully I'm getting better at editing lol
Sunbeam dreadlock clippers😂😂😂
That would be scary!
Yeah but it would probably work
good to watch, but this is more of a cleaning and reassembly no? well and a polish too of course, but usually something is done other than that in a restore, no? i might be wrong, idk

13:34 That's what she said
Ha! Exactly!
I thought it said "hedge trimmer," not pine tree mutilator.
Multi purpose
Would have been a better watch if you had zoomed out a bit... and your focus would have been much more stable.
My earlier attempts sucked , check out my newer restorations I think the filming is a little more fluid?
Showing extreme close ups of every nut and bolt is not necessary. Being too close to the camera actually makes it hard to look at, especially at fast speeds. Pull back a little.
