- "Barton Carroll writes like a troubled man. The songs on The Lost One, his second album on Birmingham-based Skybucket Records, are all about downtrodden men nursing dark thoughts like whiskey, ruminating over marriages, sex, children, jobs, friends, life. " -stephen m deusner Pitchfork Media
I heard this on Welcome to Nightvale a week or so ago, and listened to it about three times in a row. Absolutely beautiful and moving. You live this song as you listen to it. Amazing.
"Always thought my heart to be a dark horse, laying low til race day came along. Lately my hearts feeling like a dart board, and that's not something I had planned at all."
Awesome.
Found this song just a couple of days ago and can not get it out of my head. I love music that can reach into you and squeeze your heart. This is what good songwriting is.
Agree 100%
My biological father left my family when I was eight months old. My dad, the man who raised me, married my mum when I was six, and I love him dearly, but this song kicked me in the gut. I think I'm going to get in touch with my biological father.
That's a really beautiful response, and I hope it goes (or rather went) well for you.
Hope you got what you needed from it whatever that is
i have a headcannon that this song is about the guy who ran away from his wife and kid and opened the box in Welcome to Night Vale.
My chest felt like bursting when I heard those lines. So that's what they called getting drunk with sadness...
Song reminds me of my uncles life.
Discovered this gem while going through the older Nightvale stuff. Had to see if there was a video on this and it did not disappoint! I love the honest kind of feeling this song creates and the patten on the guitar is gorgeous. Greetings from Germany
It's amazing how many people have been introduced to Barton's music through Welcome to Nightvale. Welcome aboard Arthur :)
I always love the music used in the weather section of Welcome to Nightvale, but this one caught my ear especially.
Heard this song on Welcome To Nightvale and fell in love instantly. This is gorgeous music.
Goodnight, Night Vale... Goodnight....
D, if you're out there, I hope you're doing good, man.
You were right, brother. We should've gone west.
this song is the one song that has really stuck with me from welcome to night vale
It’s crazy how many people were turned onto this song from that show
The amount of time I have spent listening to and/or thinking about this song is slightly disturbing at this point.
I just want to listen to a whole ablum of all the 'Weather' songs from WTNV on reply....This is one of my favourites because of them CHORDS; I just had to look it up.
Nice work, Barton!
Amazing song.
"She wrote me letters but I never opened one"
"She met some other man and gave his name to my son"
...oh darling,
you read those letters.
My favorite part is when Barton bites the head off the bat. Intense.
Hey Danny Boy, I was thinking of our crew.
But think just makes me sad, and that's why I write to you.
How do you do?
There's been years between us.
Didn't we have big ideas when our school was done?
We'd leave our smaller minds and move out to Oregon.
But I was the only one who went the road less taken.
I met a girl and I swept her off her feet.
Made her promises I never meant to keep.
There's a mean streak in me.
Inside a storm was raging.
She had a form like no other girl in town.
We had a baby boy, but I couldn't stick around.
I couldn't be tied down, that's just the way I was thinking.
Those days are gone and my heart is aching.
Thought I deserved so much more than work could pay.
I drove containers to BC from Monterrey.
It was a long way on pins and needles.
She wrote me letters, but I never opened one.
She met some other man and gave his name to my son.
I guess the damage is done, and there's no way I can fake it.
Those days are gone, and my heart is breaking.
Always thought my heart to be a dark horse, laying low 'til race day came along.
Lately my heart's feeling like a dart board, and that's not something I had planned at all.
Danny, there's no limit to the steps I could retrace.
But I got a job cooking eggs at my friend's place.
It's no disgrace, to make an honest living.
And if it makes you blue, I hope I did not dwell.
And if this gets to you, I hope it finds you well.
There's not much else.
Out here it's been raining.
Those days are here, and my heart is waiting.
Thankyou. Exactly where my heart wants to sit just now, singin myself to sleep...on repeat
And now THE WEATHER
Me too T.T glad I'm not alone in this
ahh this song makes me sad
It's beautiful, I love Barton's music. I actually bought his album on itunes, that's respect.
This is a great, moody song...I like it.
thats very peaceful thank you hacker.
It's no disgrace to make an omelette.
😢
A Prairie Home Companion but they only do live shows now.
The roooad less taken
"I got a job cooking eggs at my friend's place, it's no disgrace making omelette's for a living"
I heard this and thought it was brilliant. Too bad it wasn't the actual lyrics.
Can you tell me about any other story based Podcasts that you may know of?
exactly what I was gonna say
I swear, everyone outside of Oregon says it wrong.
Hello, I'm beautiful Carlos, the scientist
Hello beautiful Carlos
The only thing I don't like about this song, is that s not the way to say Oregon.
That's the way you say it when you are from Avery County, North Carolina.
