  • The beginning of our Sun n Fun adventure! In this video we depart Chicago Aurora Airport (ARR) for Chattanooga, Tennessee (CHA) on an IFR flight. The STEC 3100 autopilot is still running strong and giving us more time to chat and have fun. Sorry for Jaime's comm issues but we end up getting it resolved for the rest of the videos in the series.

The first "practical" autopilot was invented by George DeBeeson or maybe The term "George" as a reference to autopilots originated in the RAF in WWII. It is a reference to the aircraft's "owner" King George

What an awesome video, Kevin. It is good to have Jaime back in 771BC. With all due respect and honor to Jaime, she is one very beautiful lady. You are one lucky man. You two are perfect together. I love the fact that you two are just plain down-to-earth folks, and you are not ashamed to show it in the videos. It makes us feel as though we know you personally. Watching the flight and watching you two makes the videos so enjoyable. You have really gotten 771BC looking so good. That is one beautiful aircraft. The upgrades are fantastic, and I know you are enjoying them. Not sure when you guys went to Sun and Fun, but, if you are back home, we hope you had a really great and fantastic time. Looking forward to Part 2 and any others to follow. Thanks for letting us ride along. As always, Happy Flying, and Safe Landings.

    • @310Pilot

Cool stuff guys.. Its clear to see how much better the flight experience is for you now that the new autopilot is in.. Would the mic being turned around the wrong way on Jamie's headset also explain the issue that the flight instructor had previously? or is there also some bad electrical connection somewhere. Have fun in 80 degrees.. (here in AussieLand its really hot when its only 45 degrees) :)

Great video as always guys. My wife walked by to see what I was watching so intently (we’re in TN). She quickly announced “Awww, they are sooo CUUTE together !”. I know that makes your day, but I was instructed to tell you that lol! I like seeing Jamie wanting heat on, when it was likely 78* in the cockpit. Why ? because I go through that at home and on every trip we fly or drive. I’ve even put on the mask and told her the heat has dropped the oxygen content to below 5% ! 🇺🇸🛫

I had alot of fun watching this - you guys are a riot! Nice being on vacation of sorts, & being relaxed and happy - always brings out the best in everyone. 😎
Wish I could've got down to Sun & Fun! One of these days I will. Got alot on my plate this year ... but I might be buying a paramotor pretty soon! Can't wait to fly on my own - so excited!
On the subject of '05 hair (that seems like last week to my old brain, lol), back in my day I remember girlfriends fogging up the entire house with Aqua Net, and using a FAT round hair brush getting those bangs 6-10" tall, LOL - those were the good ol' days! I still love that look ... but nobody does that anymore. 🙁 And the jeans back then - ohhh baby! 😂 I try to get my wife to dress up like '85 every Halloween. I love that. 😁
Nice fix on that comm issue! Would have never guessed! Figured it was a bad connection at the jack - that used to always happen with headphones back in the day. Always nice when it's a "no-cost, no-parts-needed" fix. 👍👍
Thanks for the entertainment, Kevin & Jamie! Dreaming of 80° right now - it's been overcast and between 38°-60° for the past month! Close to 10" of rain in that time, too.

@1:40.....nice chicken scratch. I can almost make it out. Almost. And are all the tower comms that garbled and fast, and if so....why? It's even worse when flying non-continental US in my experience. And they mangle English.
@4:00....Jamie: "If I'm right, you're buying dinner. If I'm wrong, you're buying dinner." SMART woman. Yikes, HOT woman. My right seater NEVER looked like that. All I get is old guys with whiskers.

Nice relaxed flying with good banter going on. One thing that sticks out, for me, is the high speed talking with ATC. I would just have to say "say again slowly". That's a whole nuther way of flying though, compared with farm strip operations but, for sure, all types of flying take me to my happy place and make me smile. I'll look in on more of your adventures, thanks.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  5 років тому

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm with you in that all types of flying put a smile on my face. I love hopping in a 172 and going in and out of my buddies farm strip or taking a flight in a helicopter and everything in between. It is tough when we do ATC in some of the busiest airspace in the country in that you have to get used to talking faster because you don't have enough time always on the freq to get everything done you need. I do catch myself getting fast and try to slow things down. :)

Which Cessna 310 do you have? Looks like a Q? Year built? Her details? Really like your instrument panel layout. Any place I can go to see what's where? My last nuisance question is this. Whenever I see you travelling all your luggage is stacked (polite word for tossed), in the back. You don't use the wing storage compartments? Don't you like them? Oh, yeah. One last thing. Does your plane have cup holders? Can't believe how many women I have heard expertly guilt trip the pilot with: "This plane needs cup holders."

Best place to live in the US is East TN in the mountains, as close to the NC border as possible. The reasons, Zero income tax, and you can shop in NC for the much lower sales tax. Plus a decent amount of snow in the winter, nice long springs, hot in the summer, yet still cool for sleeping every night.

I have a hodgepodge of cameras -- Garmin VIRB, GoPro. Any tips on your methods would be appreciated -- love the pilot oriented content in your videos. Great stuff!

Make sure you keep up with your payments or Mike Kennedy will be sneaking in to your hanger. Can you disengage the AP without actually hitting the AP button? That extra camera showing the close up of your gauges would be perfect in another window, don't know how you feel about it but I would love it. Great show Kevin, be waiting for the next part.

    • @310Pilot

Ha ha...I remember that show. No chance I'm going to let him get his hands on my bird. :) Yes, you can disengage my several methods: off switch on yoke, running the electric trim, off switch on the autopilot head, autopilot master switch and pulling the autopilot circuit breaker. I agree about the extra window view. I will look into adding that . :)

Jamie. The first verbal instrument we had was a female voice as well. Due to that it was a Garmin, and sometimes riled us a bit with her sometimes snarkie tone, we named her Gertrude. Just seemed to fit.....

Have you tried to mount the ipad on the yoke ? seems like it would be easier write and would not need to hassle the window mount. Jerry Wagner tried it and went to the yoke.
Do you already have ADS-B ?
