You managed to understand what the majority of reviewers have been failing to: this is NOT a transformer that turns into a GIJoe vehicle; It is a G.I. joe vehicle that can become something more. For G.I. Joe fans, this can be an amazing opportunity to get their hand on an old vehicle that might be evading their collection. For the rare species that identifies as a fan of BOTH TF and G.I.Joe…. This is HEAVEN.
@@octobotimus If you want the best Thundermachine possible it is and you get two great O-ring figures. I don't buy these for the Transformer part, only the Joe part. In that respect these are amazing, but yeah not a great tranformer.
One major problem is that the robot modes are so dedicated to recreate their G1 appearance, resulting a great departure between alt mode and robot mode. They should just use the alt mode part to build up the robot mode, instead of throwing alt mode junk on a G1 figure
Exactly. It's painfully obvious that they had the G.I.JOE team design the robot mode. They should've just given it to the Transformers team and told them to turn the Dreadnok into a robot, instead of just leaving it up to the JOE team for everything. I have no idea why this turned out as stupid as it did. Hell, the H.I.S.S. Tank Megs actually had fucking _feet._ Why the hell did they go backwards on that with Bumblebee and Soundwave? It makes me really worried for Optimus Prime and Kup.
Cautiously optimistic for M.O.B.A.T. Optimus Prime and Triple-T Kup. Soundwave is a step in the right direction, and I hope they keep improving this line (mainly with the materials). Head sculpt is superb. Prolly the best Soundwave head sculpt out there imo.
this series has given me a distinct "this is a _TOY_-toy that is meant to be played with by brutal little kids in a sandbox"... simplistic in design, simple engineering to divert budget into size (this must seem gonzo to a 4ft tall little gremlin), meant to be transformed quickly & be treated roughly... this is not a 'hand feel', "take your time with it & enjoy the process" toy for more careful & patient types... but for that price?? 😬
As a fan of both Transformers and G1 Joe, it makes the robots a lot easier to digest when I have them posed up with my Pursuit of Cobra figures. Just *knowing* that the robots are in scale with those human figures is so cool, and then the 1 to 1 vehicles make me giddy. Each one continues to improve on the last, which is a great sign.
I am more of a Joe fan than a TF fan, but these aren’t what I want from a crossover. If they aren’t going to scale with my classified Joes or most TFs, I wish they would have gone 2.5” Fortnite proved you can get good articulation at that scale.
Yeah, I’ve been wishing they didn’t go for name recognition and had gone for obscure name pulls or new characters but as is these are my favorite versions of these characters.
See, I would likely be a lot more interested in these if they weren't "GI Joe vehicle that lazily becomes a recognizable TF character". If they were originals, I could excuse a lot more of the weird design decisions like having car bits hanging everywhere. None of these other than maybe Bee have looked like they were integrated into the bot mode; just lazily draping GI Joe vehicle over a recognizable character.
Cough* Viper cough* Seriously, where is he? This guy is perfect for this line because he was created solely to be G.I.Joe and the transformers crossover and you hasbro don’t bring him back? This is also a blue Powerglide, what can be better than this?
This is the one I understand the most so far. That car mode is gorgeous and the robot mode is solid enough. Not a Joe fan, but I get it. I wish the Bumblebee toy was even remotely this good looking.
I feel that with these toys they'd be better off adopting a more G1 transformation process and keep it as simple as possible and probably sacrifice some of the articulation and have some metal in there for weight
I can't be the only one thinking to myself seeing as they have officially licensed a Pontiac, to the assumption that maybe just maybe, we could be getting a Knight Rider crossover in the future????? 👀
Soundwave is great. The dreadnoks CAN ride in the backpack but you cannot see them unless you have a top side view of the figure. With the guns on his shoulders it blocks any front view of either figure in the backpack. This opened my shelf up for the rest of my GI Joe figures to integrate into the TF heavy shelves.
Being a transformers and G.I. JOE fan I’m really liking these crossovers . Although the transformers mode are not great , getting a new version of the Thunder Machine is awesome! And will be displayed with a my Joe collection 👏🏻
This guy reminds me of the big honkin' toys from my 90's childhood. Just the chunkiness of it makes me think of things like the Power Rangers Tiger Zord, that kind of thing.
I wish third party companies would take the initiative to make proper toys/bots for this lineup. Hasbro/Takara prioritizes their stock holders over their customers. Third party/KO don't have to worry about stock holders and IPOs this is why they are able to sell at such a relatively cheap price.
Nice review. I have Joes but never had Zarana or the the Thunder machine. So it was a Beautiful deal for fans of Both Transformers and Gijoe. Those Joe o ring reissues could be like $40 of the value from Hasbros priceing of their previous reissues. I like to Joke that with Zarana this is Kiss players Soundwave.
The lack of vehicle integration is what's supremely disappointing. Especially given when in the comics, when they turned into Cobra vehicles, they integrated.
I am a mostly GI joe fan, though I was also a huge Transformer fan when they first came out. I keep this in robot mode. I wasn't really a fan of the Thunder Machine, but Soundwave is my favorite Transformer. lol.
This is the first one I have purchased. Love the blue ravage, but still disappointed. It needed more articulation/ moving some kibble out of the way. He feels out of place with tfs and with my Joes which are mostly 6” Now
I had that car when I was a kid and it was one of rhe coolest toys I had. Looked fantastic. Soundwave's alt mode is an abomination. I know compromises must be made but they shouldn't have bothered when it looks like that.
I don't really like GI Joe and I don't love the robot modes on this subline, but man do I love the concept of Soundwave being a Trans Am. Hey Hasbro! Make a line where the G1 guys (ie not movie) are just straight-up licensed vehicles! I will buy them!
I would actually really want this if i wasnt super opposed to soundwave being anything other than a cassette player. But thats just me, this is super awesome
Hasbro really needs to figure out what they want out of these figures. Are they transformers or vehicles for GI joe figures that just happen to have a robot mode?
KABLAM! Still pretty sad they didn't include Thrasher who was the Thundermachine's original driver. But if you somehow own the BBTS-exclusive Dreadnok multipack which includes a modern version of Thrasher then you are basically covered.
I really love to look at the soundwave, but I just don’t like the tires, on the side of the arms but it looks good for a potential custom or moc and I would definitely pick it up if it went for clearance or something like that
i do mostly like the gijoe/transformers figures, mostly because for now its the closest I'll get to transformers toys scaled to interact with 3.75 in star wars figures
Got all 3 heavily discounted on pulse and i appreciate you not lokeing them. Sadly, that will lead to it being neglected and ultimatley failing before it gets iff the ground
The MOBAT Optimus Prime has the potential to be the better of the bunch, simply because the MOBAT was just a basic looking tank with a slot for a figure. Not much they would have to work around unless they, for some reason, make it motorized like the old one.
I'm not saying it would greatly change your opinion, but reviewing a toy designed to interact with 3-3/4" figures and deliberately...NOT doing that, feels like looking for reasons to dislike it.
Sure, but these figures are supposed to appeal to both Transformers fans and Gi Joe fans. If it's lacking as a transformers figure, it doesn't matter that it can interact with 3 inch figures, because that doesn't make the transformers aspect better
I think they pick the wrong robots for these vehicles to turn into. Definitely the last one should have been hound and this one should have been motor master imo.
While I recognized the Trans Am front end had no idea it was officially licensed as one. As with Megatron and Bumblebee these are first and foremost vehicle representations with simplified but recognizable Transformers attached to them. I think what really kills this line is the 3/4 figure integration which means they have to be big to accommodate which also means lesser budget for articulation and engineering. It's like Human Alliance only backwards. While other collaborative efforts have been either hit or miss they fare better not having to accommodate another toyline as it's main selling point and are significantly better because of it. Almost makes me wonder why even bother and just release 3/4 scale updates of the original GIjoe toy as that's what the subline is mostly catering to. On a side note I believe Cup and Prime have already been rumored/scheduled as more Joe vehicles. Makes me wonder when we'll see seekers as the Cobra jets though realistically those would have to be enormous.
I'd like to get this at some point, but definitely can't justify it for full price. I picked up the previous 2 on deep discount from Amazon on Black Friday, I'm guessing this one will eventually follow suit
You may not be familiar with the comic book series GI Joe Vs Transformers. I would have to say it is for GI Joe fans. I primarily collect both the vintage lines. So yes this appeals to me. If you think in terms of a $60 figure with the other three figures I think the price point is very good. Curious if the figures color change. Probably not
It's hard to price these toys since there isn't a classic Joe toyline to price against in stores. $90 is spendy for what we get, unless you're looking at it as a $40 Dreadnock, a $30 Soundwave, and 2 $10 Joes. That's obviously too much to pay for this Soundwave, but I can't say if the rest of the prices are outrageous or not. The MP Ravage is a sweet-as-hell pack-in, probably worth nearly $10 on his own. If we tossed that into the pile and dropped the price of Soundwave to $20, I think it would be easier to justify this price. On Soundwave, I feel like slight changes to the engineering would have had an outsized impact on his feel. The mere addition of a couple of pieces cast in denser and heavier plastics to replicate the feel of die-cast components wouldn't be amiss. Just use a denser plastic for the red components in order to make heavier seat-feet and a stiffer cabin roof, and the hollowness of the3 arms would be a little more tolerable without having to reach third-party levels of panelforming. In the end, I feel like this toy _might_ be acceptably priced if you price his alt mode and robot mode separately and include the prices of each major accessory. He could be so much better, but he is an improvement on his linemates and definitely a move in the right direction.
I am legally obligated to say that the name "G.I. Joe" exudes such masculine energy that i can't go within 50 feet of it without combusting. And while writing this comment and just mentioning it's mere name, had given me severe burns i will have to go get treated
While this is a big improvement over the last two releases, even as a Gi Joe fan these still don't really appeal to me. Considering he’s been showing up at Ross for the price of 24.99 now I’m considering getting him
I wonder if they'll do a Cobra Jet that transforms into starscream and comes with Cobra Commander. It's so obvious that it's almost painful.
The blue ravage is the closest we’ve gotten to a new Howlback since… that one Bumblebee movie multipack?
I kinda wish the seat feets flattened. That's what Alternators Grimlock did, his feet are seats as well, and those flattened to make a flat surface

As a Transformers and 3.75 figure fan I really enjoyed this figure. Just needed a bit more articulation. Ravage on a Leash was a great touch.
The problem is that these figures are too expensive and the robot modes just look really cheap.
It's the Ramshackle! You know dang well! It's made from vehicles that we couldn't sell!

so bassicly it comes with a masterpiece howlback
The could of made the hands fold out of the front bumper which would have gotten rid of the hollow part on the arms
They had the hiss tank why didn't they do that... Why didn't they use the hiss tank sound wave from Earth wars
What's with the Pontiac Trans Am front.

Close enough, welcome back Human Alliance
I feel like he’d look really cool and very dreaknock if he had some subtle graffiti tags on him

How did it take me until you took the car roof off for me to think he just looks like a kreo build?
having owned the gi joe toy its a very good replica
Did u just throw a bionicle can?🤣👏🏼
It’s insane to me that GI Joe gets better crowdfunding than transformers.
I like joes and tf... but honestly, id be more interested in these if they were just brand new bots, and not established characters

This looks like a leader or voyager
Honestly seeing this guy and how he does some things make me wonder...... Why even do this if there's no passion or no real motivation
At 200 AUD its a bitter pill to swallow but he is the best one so far
Looks like a certain green app wants you to use them
Better than Megatron four Shure.

I was really hoping that he would be good, but seeing him on camera really shows his flaws.
soundwave should been hiss tank megatron this one
Howlback, the blue ravage but they call him ravage on the box so meh.....
"This video is made for adult collectors because have you met any kids that even care about GI Joe?"
I know this comment sounds mean, but I think this figure is actually very cool and I love this sub-line. I think even HISS Megatron is very cool.
Can't lie, i never understood why people care if TF toys "parts-form" because avoiding it leads to a lot of toys being slathered in kibble and janky as hell to transform. Sure it isn't lore-friendly but frankly that shouldn't matter, these are toys for christ's sake. If parts can be cleanly engineered, especially on larger figures, to transform without needing to be taken off; cool, because that's impressive to see. Otherwise, just make the damn things come off.
It's ridiculously large 😮
Was hoping for this one
No partsforming this time? Cool.
As cool as this looks, I’m still gonna be waiting for a sale before I pick it up. I got the hiss tank for like 60 bucks on Amazon which I didn’t think was too bad but these all seem to be overpriced like the majority of transformers nowadays unfortunately
Why soundwave...he is the last con I would pair with the dreadlocks.
Bumblebee needs Eco warriors/ Beachcomber repaint. That is a perfect pair.
Bro built like a burnin rubber 5 boss
to my knowledge, these aren't designed by the TF team, hence the kind of shoddy engineering compared to modern TF stuff
You know, I'm having this are a MASSIVE reduction.
Gi Joe Transformers Soundwave is very cool
Honestly im not a fan of the gi joe x transformers line because of just how bad some of these desgins are especially how bland the robot modes are and how janky they are and how they just ware their alt mode kibble instead of just incorporated it

This G.I.Joe collaboration reminds me of star wars ( both have shitty robots )
It's not terrible agree the best of the worst.
Go Joe! G.i joooeee transfomers earth wars were he says that
Btw ..... you mean the late 70s and 2 years into the 80s trans am?
That’s exactly what he meant because that front end was used between 1979-1981. Same with the later models of the Camaro from that generation having the sharper 3 colored tail lights and uniform front bumper
