      Hi Arian, thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate your positive comments. I am not planning on trimming our Mexican Lime tree until next spring so I won't have any cuttings until that time. I will definitely keep you in mind if I do any trimming prior to the spring of 2024 and when I do trim next spring.

    how the fuck does a 2' lime tree grow to 12' in a year and half? seriously has anyone else been able to replicate this speed? My thornless Mexican has been sitting for a year now and great basically all of a few inches. Finally these last few months it has grown a feet or so.

      Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! That is the exact same question I asked myself too. It was crazy to watch it grow so quick and just take over. I think there are a lot of factors that contributed to it's rapid growth. I went back to my planting video to check that it has been a year and a half. It was planted in 03/2021 and this video came out in 10/2022. We had a fairly mild winter (compared to last year) in 2021 and a fantastic summer with lots of rain in 2022. I think this helped a lot. The Green Yard is also on old farm land, our house was built in 1946, and has received flood irrigation since then. This has helped make our soil pretty good, although it still needs to be amended when planting a new tree. After planting, the tree kind of stayed the same height and size until spring of 2022. This is also the same time I started using fish emulsion once or twice a month on all of my trees. When I started adding in this type of fertilizer I saw a huge amount of growth very quickly. I also add agricultural sulfur to the soil to correct for PH and allow the tree to take up those nutrients. I think the heavy mulch may play a role in it's ability to retain moisture, which could help with growth too. I have seen citrus trees do very well and grow very quickly but this one has outpaced most of them. It's fun to go back and watch my planting video in 03/2021, growing video in 05/2022, harvesting video in 10/2022 and then the pruning video in 03/2023 to see the tree progress in size. As I mention in my videos, I am not an expert and am just sharing my experiences in creating an abundant green yard. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@thegreenyardaz thanks for the response, let me go back to add fish emulsion again. I used it a lot last year but tamped it down this year.

    Do the thorns matter? I grew mine from seed and it has plenty of thorns

    • @thegreenyardaz

      Hello @franciscovera5223, thank you for watching and commenting! From what I know, the thorns do not matter. It is more of a preference. I know that most Key Limes are very thorny and it is nice to be able to trim and not have to wear gloves or anything. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

    When are they ready to harvest? I have mine in a container here in NC with about 2 dozen limes that might be ready to harvest. Someone said when they smell like a lime?
    Thanks.

      Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! My Mexican Key Limes are ready to harvest throughout the year. This is actually one of the things I love about the tree is that it will flower and produce all year long, not just in the spring and winter. I will typically just pick them when I need them regardless of their size. If I am using them for their juice I will wait until they are grocery store size, or slightly smaller than a golf ball. This is typically when they have the best flavor and the most juice. I have also found that if I don't pick them at this size they will typically get yellow and start to go bad. I have found that mine smell like lime at all times so I don't think the smell test would work for me. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi, great video and very informative. I'm thinking about getting a Mexican lime tree and curious where you bought yours? It's amazing how fast yours grew!

      Hi Jennifer, thank you for watching and commenting! The Thornless Mexican Key Lime Trees are really amazing when it comes to production. Mine is covered in flowers this spring so I'm hoping for a really good year with a lot of fruit. I bought mine at a local nursery called Greenlife by Shamus O Leary. They have an amazing selection of tropical fruit trees. Even if you don't buy anything I would definitely recommend stopping by to tour all the inventory. This is the nursery where I buy almost all of my trees. I have found that local nursery's typically have better quality trees than big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@thegreenyardaz im in zone 8b,i was wondering if i should plant both of my key lime trees on the ground

    • @thegreenyardaz
      @thegreenyardaz  7 місяців тому

      @emmz.... From doing a little research it sounds like they can be grown in zone 8b. I would suggest that, if you do plant it in the ground, you protect it from any frost the first few years while it gets established. It sounds like it is possible to grow them in containers as well but a dwarf variety is recommended. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    I know everyone’s soil is different, but how often are you watering your mango trees?

    • @thegreenyardaz
      @thegreenyardaz  Рік тому

      Hi Dave, all of my mango trees are getting watered once every two weeks. I have them heavily mulched (around 1 foot deep) and for water I usually deep water them, either with the flood irrigation we get every two weeks or with the hose on half power for 30 minutes. Let me know if you have other questions.

    wow that grew so fast! i bought a bag of tiny egyptian key limes a few months ago and loved the floral smell they had so i germinated the seeds and now have a few little key lime plants :)

      Hi Dan, thank you for watching! Yes, it grew incredibly fast, I'm a little shocked by it's growth and production so far. That is so great to hear! I don't think I've tried Egyptian Key Limes before but they sound amazing! You'll have to keep my updated on how they're doing, they may do amazing outside too once you get them a little more established.

      Yes, I use fish emulsion once a month on all of my trees. I started this last year and have seen great results. I also use a 6 month granular fertilizer as well as agricultural sulfur to lower the PH. Thank you for subscribing!

    Are all Mexican key limes grow smaller then a regular lime?

    • @thegreenyardaz
      @thegreenyardaz  Рік тому +1

      Hi, from my experience and understanding yes, all Mexican key limes will grow smaller than a regular lime. I've actually had a few turn yellow on the tree (meaning they're too old) and they are the same size as any of the other limes I picked even at that stage in ripening. Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching!
