Jimbo was hired by Scott Woodward, and was a singular focus from the start. I knew we were in trouble when Fisher only brought 2 out of 11 assistants. That means 9 assistant coaches said that they would rather take their chances with the new unknown FSU coach rather than follow Jimbo. To make matters worse, prior to coming to A&M, Jimbo had never hired a staff before. Then when he hired a staff, we all learned that Jimbo could not let go. He insisted on being the HC, OC, Play Caller, QB Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, and eventually Special Teams Coach. Then we learned he was insistent on running this offense that took longer to develop than the O line could hold their blocks. He had Pro Style taste on a Run and Shoot Budget. Finally he’s forced to bring in Bobby Petrino. We got Bobby alright. We got Bobby banished to the press box where he didn’t not want to be, calling Jimbo’s plays. The big miss here was the fact that Scott Woodward only knows how to interview a coach. The personal interview method of selection is the worst in terms of predictive validity. I hope Ross strolls over to Mays and visits with an HR PhD who can help him arm himself with selection criteria.

Full Disclosure, I am not an Aggie but my son is attending currently. Potential is not performance. People are down on Jimbo but he is only one of a few active coaches to win a Natty, not an easy feat. Maybe he was slow to adapt and change, but he sure knew how to negotiate a contract. Maybe a business school post for him? Truth is the SEC West is a brutal division. Did people really expect him to come in and overtake Bama, LSU? I hope the Aggies do, but it will take more than 6 years. Bama has 14 National Championships and one year of a top recruiting class will not do it. The Chancellor & Board of Regents signed off on that deal, hold them accountable.

    • @cameronguerra7290
      @cameronguerra7290 6 місяців тому +1

Winning a natty is not an easy feat - you are right. However take a look at the QB he had at FSU vs what he's had at A&M. Can't really compare rosters due to A&Ms recruiting so I can't go down that path unfortunately. We just expected more from a coach of that magnitude, with that contract, and with A&Ms talent pool. Look at LSU last year under Brian Kelly - immediate SEC West title. We have consistently good talent, but since Jimbo's hiring - we've had relatively sub par coaching and severe bad luck. Be ready for the entire A&M staff to be fired - minus Elijah Robinson, come next fall.

    • @planoman0935

@@cameronguerra7290 understand what you are saying. Brian Kelly had nothing to do with recruiting that team that won sec west last year. IMO They were more luckily than good which showed against Georgia. Bama improved instantly by getting rid of Pete Golding. The point I was making that Jimbo was from a good coaching tree (Saban) and had the bona fides. I hope the Aggies don’t just look at a coach who had one good year (along with several bad) and think that’s there man. Truth is there are more good coaching jobs than there are good coaches.

@@robh_tex The question becomes: When does a coach go from a "splash" to a "consistent winner" who is undiscovered by the big spenders ?? It appears A&M determined Florida State's national championship anointed Jimbo. Look at Colorado, though the jury may still be out, they thought Deion's JSU magic would translate to the Pac 12. IMHO, schools are following the NFL in an attempt to strike quick gold. Tressel left Youngstown in 2000. A lot has changed since then. By your logic, Petrino should have been a success at Missouri State, but he was not. The logic is not fool-proof, therefore gamblers will keep playing with other people''s money. Also, I doubt Aggieville has the culture to draw top talent from across the US.

Guys that have a track record of winning at every stop on the HC ladder like a DeBoer or Liepold are more likely to pan out for them in my opinion.

One of Texas’ biggest rivals is at it again.
On Sunday, the Texas A&M football account posted a statistic on social media that showed their record against teams in the state since 2012.
The Aggies’ 17-0 record since 2012 is quite deceiving when you look at their opponents:
    Abilene Christian University: 1-0
    Lamar University: 2-0
    Prairie View A&M: 3-0
    Rice University: 2-0
    Sam Houston State University: 2-0
    Texas State University: 1-0
    UTEP: 1-0
    UTSA: 3-0
Texas A&M has not played against Texas, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech since 2012. Their bragging has once again caused them to be roasted on social media.
The Longhorns defeated A&M in their final Big 12 matchup in 2011 with a walk-off field goal by Justin Tucker, and they will face off once again next year when Texas joins the SEC.

Here is the bottom line. They had just come off a 51 to 10 win. Everyone was happy. Texas A&M's problem was leaving the Big Twelve. They were not and are not going to be a factor in the SEC. Rather than continue to fail, and hire new coaches, how about going back to where you belong in the Big Twelve. Two more teams are going to find that out soon. Texas and Oklahoma will also be whipping boys in the SEC and wish they had not made the move they are making. Lastly, how do you hire another coach when he knows he will also be a failure and lose his job there.

No Tyler. I enjoy winning as much as the next guy. But winning doesn’t happen by stopping midway. Winning takes principles and hard work and, sometimes, staying the course through tough times. Jimbo was doing just that. He had not met expectations in terms of our win-loss record to date, but I’d have gladly kept paying to see what all the hard work he’s put in would have done over the next four years.
I remember shaking my head when Mike Sherman was, in my opinion, prematurely terminated so we could get the next best thing in Kevin Sumlin. I may be old fashioned, but I believe strongly in committing to a direction and sticking with it.
I hope we’re lucky and are able to keep the fine kids Jimbo’s brought in. Whoever succeeds him will do well if we do. But organizations and integrity win in the long run - at least in my experience - and the short sighted action that was taken is likely to hurt our ability to attract someone with the experience I believe we had in place. Plus we just threw away a lot of money.

Director Ross also is on a disaster path by not recognizing that assistant coach budget is how Alabama has built a legacy. Director Ross is going to be sadly disappointed regarding his being in the conversation for the national championship regularly. Top 30 yes, top 10 NO. He simply does not have the heavyweights in his administration to accomplish that like Alabama and Ohio State and Florida State and Georgia and Oregon do. If school politics do not interfere, Missouri and LSU will regularly stomp A & M. But by the same token, A & M is a good football school traditionally, which means that they have some old heads that will step in from time to time on the board and call a halt to foolishness.

Deion has won 1 conference game this year .. Evidently the other PAC 12 coaches didn't shudder when he said "We're bringing the Louis Vuitton" to Colorado.

I have to teach Bjork how to make a deal with new head coach: if new HC wants 10 years contract with 80M buyout go ahead to give him with 1 condition: if you don't improve and we have a right to kick you out. In 3 years if you don't win the conference, we will kick you out. In 5 years if you don't win a national championship, we will kick you out.

If education was truly valued, we'd get stories about professors instead of just sports.

A logical fallacy and a Ridiculous statement. “News” is supposed to cover what is going on in the surrounding community and world. It typically covers relevant & hot topics, that are currently happening on the world scene.
We can cover current events AND value education.
Jimbo Fisher’s firing is a current event, it’s a hot topic, and extremely relevant to the football scene here in America. Thus, a story was presented.
You may not be interested in football, but that does not mean that an educational piece should be put on in its place to make you happy. We value children… shouldn’t we spend more time with news stories about happy kids somewhere instead of covering traffic jams on 635? Does covering traffic jams imply that we don’t value kids? Obviously not.
Obviously not. Mutual exclusivity exists. We can value education and still do a piece on the most significant coaching search in the nation.

Kids are paying $40,000 plus for a Bachelors.. They aren't spending $40,000 on football tickets. They've already made a value statement with their wallet/choices.

5.2k views on this story. Over the last week, what got more views from wfaa?
      Senator mma from Oklahoma.
      One video about the POTUS.
One video about the death of a former First Lady.
There's an outlier at 21k and 77k that I assume is artificially inflated by the campaign, about rfk.
A car on a pedestrian bridge.
Mexico's official statement about Abbott's new law.
Two year old attacked by pit bull.
Some of those stories from the week will be edged out, as this one received another ~800 views while I typed this and hasn't been out for 24hrs yet.
