I am in AWE of Wales, first 'ONLY BOYS ALOUD and now COR GLANAETHWY. It seem to be a country of ancient pure souls gathering to bless us all with their Beauty and Sound from Heavan. A Breathtaking performance. Y fath galonau ac eneidiau pur a gostyngedig ydynt. Maen nhw'n ein bendithio â'u lleisiau angylaidd yn ein cludo i'r Nefoedd am ychydig funudau... (I how my Welsh is good)
All teared up watching the people of Wales at the best, (singing) is in our blood, and listening to the Choir sing always takes me home to my child hood in Llanelly where I was born, and Laugharne, S/W Wales, where I was evacuated to in 1942.
This choir is a delight to listen to. I hear a lot of Welsh music, mostly from youtube, but until now have somehow missed this wonderful blend of passionate voices. They should make it a requirement at all vocal competitions that at least one selection should be in Welsh, worldwide, as this would certainly improve the marriage of lyric and sound, and produce a renaissance in the choral arts!
Thanks for your reaction, meaghanelliott (Megan Elliott?). I was a boy of 12, almost 13 years. living in Rotterdam, Holland when the Germans fell into our country on May 10, 1940; I saw the German bombs fall on the centre of the town on May 14th, saw the heavy fires and afterwards smelt the stench of the ashes. So I can imagine how people in Swansea felt in 1941. Therefore I'd like to know the English text of this song. Could you tell me where I can find it? Thank you in advance. Regards, Henk
I found this English translation. Waldo Williams suffered for his pacifist views but stuck to his beliefs all through his life. Rose-red sky above the snow Where bombed Swansea is alight, Full of my father and mother I go, I walk home in the night. They are blest beyond hearing, Peacemakers, children of God. Neither, within their home, abuse Nor slander could be found. Mam would look for an excuse For the biggest scoundrels round. They are blessed beyond hearing, Peacemakers, children of God. It was the angel of poor homes Gave my father two rich pearls: Brotherhood the mission of man God's largesse the invisible world. They are blessed beyond hearing, Peacemakers, children of God. Nation good or nation bad (So they taught) is fantasy. In Christ's light is freedom had For any man that would be free. Blest, the day dawns that will hear them, Peacemakers, children of God. What is their estate tonight, Tonight, with the world ablaze? Truth is with my father yet, Mother with forgiveness stays. The age will be blest that hears them, Peacemakers, children of God.
I found a video with english subtitles but unfortunately I cant post a link. If you search on here for 'Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir "Y Tangnefeddwyr" (English)' it should come up! Hope you find it!

Thank you. Yes, after I posted my answer to meaghanelliott I realized that this might give a wrong impression. I did mean the original translation into English. The word "original" which I used here had better been let away. I knew in the meantime that Waldo wrote in Welsh.
Thanks, I found it right. It's a bit laborious to write down the English lyrics from the clip, but being an old pensioner with lots of time I can manage. Thank you again. Still I think it rather strange that the (Original ?) English words of Waldo Williams can not be found in a normal way. I wish you any pleasure in the choir (and success in the school). If CG's CD's can be paid in Ideal/ING or PayPal, I'll order some. Will there also be a CD with "Y Tangnefeddwyr" ? Greetings, Henk,
May I tell you a little about this choir. It is well known throughout Wales, you must be wondering why is it so much smaller than when it competed in B G Talent, Kevin joined this choir with Glanaethwy's very young choir and some parents joined in as well just for B G T.We are so lucky in Wales, there are so many idividuals who are great singers, many like Bryn Terfel world renowned!
I fully agree with griffcats : this choir is a delight to listen to. So far I preferred the sound of male voice choirs, but this choir sounds so beautiful. I should like to know what the Welsh words mean. My first contact with this song was through Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir and it seemed to me in connection with a bombing on Swansea jn 1941. Is that correct ?

You are the best choir I have ever heard! When you start singing, I am relaxing instantly. It's so beautiful!

Beautiful song, beautifully sung.
With all the pieces in place, and the absolute full vocal range, you are second to none. Bravo!
Beautiful. I must say that no one puts letters together to form words better than the Welsh. Cymru Am Byth!
I am so proud to be from Anglesey and being able to listen to this Choir from Bangor.

Welsh lyrics and English translation please.
Go to the Academi Heddwch Cymru website and search for Waldo Williams "Y Tangnefeddwyr". You'll find the Welsh and English lyrics side by side there.
@@Sunflowers159 diolch.
I presume that Y Tangnefeddwr means The Peacemaker.
if the song was sung in the English language what would the words mean
