An anthem written by a father & son, it's about the language, the culture, the people, the land. The most noble of all national anthems. Massive admiration & respect from a Scot.
I am not even Welsh (or British at all), but I really admire the Welsh for their brilliant folk song traditions and for their commitment to their language, their country and their proud Celtic heritage in general. This version of Hen wlad fy nhadau is the most beautiful rendition of any national anthem I have ever seen or heard, adorably mixing together a great choir, orchestra and professional solists with all the public joining in. "Cymru am byth"!
From Scotland - Well Done Wales - great country - I served with many Welshmen in my years in the Royal Navy Submarine Service - They could always be trusted -loyal and true..
I'm English and have spent much time in beautiful Wales! The people, the music, the culture, the kindness, humour & hospitality are legendary! Also is their innate love of their homeland, seen clearly here, in that whilst the choir have their music, the audience don't need it to join in with gusto, from the oldest to the youngest, they ALL know the words by heart!! If THIS is the. terrible "nationalism", so derided & scorned by the progressives today, then love of one's homeland is no sin!! Love & warm support to Wales & her great people from an equally patriotic English friend & admirer!!
Cultural pride and nationalism are two very different things, as progressives well know. One prevents wars while the other causes them. The shame is that we confuse the two.

My blood connection with Wales is only through my great-great-great-grandmother (in the 1840's!) but I have a sense of still belonging whenever I listen to this so beautiful Welsh National Anthem.
My father was Welsh, my mother descended from a mixture of the rest of the UK. At 81, I am discovering my ancestral music on UA-cam. It is so stirring. The flesh on my arms tingles. I loved singing in my church choir when I was younger and started singing lessons in my 50's. I wanted to start when I was younger but my mom couldn't afford it. I live in South Africa and I doubt that I will ever be able to visit Wales except via UA-cam and maps. I must also access my family documents again to refresh my aging memory about family details. And check the family tree my niece, with whom I live, created. This will all help to keep my mind active. At the same time, I must listen to as much Welsh music as I can. 😊😊😊
I sang tenor in St. David’s Society of Minnesota, and by far this one of the best singable national anthems. It was a thrill learning to sing in the Welsh language.

Oh, yes? The Scots have mostly spoken English for at least six hundred years, and their unique culture thrives quite well, thank you! Welsh is spoken by less than 20 percent of the population of Wales, but Wales remains as Welsh as ever. A language is only one part of a national culture.
Not true. Ireland and Scotland are both worldwide brands, but they do it all in English. What happens is that they adapt English to their own ends (which is how dialects arise), to the point where it becomes a part of their own distinctive cultures. If Wales somehow no longer had the Welsh language, they could still find other ways in which to be excellent in their own culture, just as Ireland and Scotland have. I know that the Welsh love to sing. It’s in theire blood. Many years ago I was a lorrie driver in Belgium. And on a nice summer morning I was driving on the E17 motorway to Antwerp (traffic was slow due to congestion) a lorrie drove past me, the cab window open and the driver was singing loudly, not a modern song he heard on the radio, but it was a beautiful song with words I couldn’t understand. At first I tought that maybe he had a few drinks. But then I read the company’s name and adres on the cab door (I can’t remember what is was). What I do remember was the name “Wales” at the bottom of the adres and the Welsh flag proudly painted on the cab door. It was a sight I never forgot.
I am welsh and basically fluent and I encourage anyone who admires this anthem to put the lyrics into google translate and read them, they are very touching and is a perfect reflection of our country. Y gelf hon sy’n fy ngweneud my flach o fod yo Gymraeg ♥️♥️
I have done this and am still weeping. We, the English, had oppressed the Welsh for so long, but all it did was make them stronger. You'd think we would have learned from this! I'm coming back Welsh, I hope ❤
Being from Northern Ireland I feel we can never have an anthem that would unite us because of the old British/Irish conundrum. So this has always been my spiritual anthem. Nothing inspires me like this. God bless Wales 🏴 .
If you are ever feeling a bit down it is guaranteed the Welsh will cheer you up with their fantastic singing, This arrangement is the best I have heard for a long time great arrangement by the Conductor Jeffrey Howard I love it
Totally agree with you! This is the best version I've ever heard of the beautiful Welsh Anthem as well! I'm not Welsh but I find Hen wlad fy nhadau definitely one of the most beautiful anthems in the world, if not THE most beautiful!
I would fall in love with anybody who has heart like the heart of this song. It is all heart, not swaggering making it the greatest anthem in the world.
This is my absolute favourite - bold, beautiful and unbendingly courageous. This is a true inspiration to all the oppressed peoples in the world, including our fellow Hongkongers!
I'm Croat and I love this anthem, it's so beautiful so I learned the first stanza and chorus. I also like the fact that Cornish and Bretons also use the same melody and keep in touch with old brythonic roots. Bro Gozh ma Zadou also sounds nice, especially by Nolwenn Leroy, this version of Hen wlad fy nhadau is amazing. Cymru
This is the most excellent presentation to date. None other rendition comes up to this iconic performance. Performance of not the right word because to all comes from the heart
How inspiring it was to see everyone, old and young proudly singing their national anthem unlike so many these days standing blankly some chewing gum and their anthem is played. One of the most beautiful National Anthems.
I love this concert. The singers while all singing together show their individual joy of the music. The orchestra is magnificent. I'm a little obsessed with this concert and watch it nearly every day at the moment. I'm learning Welsh and trying to sing along.
It is wonderful to see all the audience standing and singing along with the Choir. I left Wales when I was five in '56 and the Anthem still sends shivers up my arms and the hair on the back of my neck. It is a beautiful Anthem.
It's not just the wonderful tune that makes a performance supreme and memorable. it is the fact that it is always sung so well and with such fervour by the congregation. it is beyond comparison! As I said 4 years ago, Yn wych yn wir.
It brought tears to my eyes! Congratulations conductor Jeffrey Howard and thank you for this majestic rendition of the beatiful Welsh anthem! God bless you!
If we had an anthem to be proud of I'd sing it with gusto, but our Australian anthem is awful and needs to be changed. I would love ours to be "I am Australian". It takes into account all our variations of background and our country as well.

It is always great reading stories like that!
Gromi
Caesar commented that the Britons sang in 'two voices' - ie harmony.
@@gordonsmith8899 Unfortunately we were always fighting each other, instead of uniting against the common enemy!!
@Gromit, what a lovely story, thank you for sharing it with us!
As someone with English Heritage, I feel the beauty and pride of Wales everytime I hear this song. Cymru am byth!
South African too " Baie baie mooi "
@ Keith: stem saam 🇿🇦
I am English born to an English mother and Welsh father. I have great pride in my Welsh heritage and love the language.
@@jasonhurd9305 Who said it was??
What a beautiful anthem. A peaceful, love of land, proud people. Thank God for the Welsh and example to the world. Thank you..
Barry Pugh excellent comments about the land where The Messiah walked when he visited aboard his uncle Joseph of Aramathia trading ships
Cymru
My father was born in Wales. In times gone by the Welsh had to fight to keep their language, their hills, and their vales..
This is the most excellent presentation to date. None other rendition comes up to this iconic performance. Performance of not the right word because to all comes from the heart
I am of Welsh heritage and this stirs me greatly. Thanks so very much.
Glorious. Got to be the best out of all the British anthems.
How inspiring it was to see everyone, old and young proudly singing their national anthem unlike so many these days standing blankly some chewing gum and their anthem is played. One of the most beautiful National Anthems.
I am afraid many members of our football team belong to the blank looks and gum-chewing brigade :-(
Don't get this in England!😢
Next life I want to be Welsh and sing it all life long
Dito my friend 🏴
Bravo1 but only if you can't be Irish!
As an Anglo-Welshman I love this anthem...uplifting to the soul
It brought tears to my eyes! Congratulations conductor Jeffrey Howard and thank you for this majestic rendition of the beatiful Welsh anthem! God bless you!
Even the musicians are singing. I wish my country was so proud of itself (Australia).
@tony biddle fuck off and worship your German royal family with its shit anthem
If we had an anthem to be proud of I'd sing it with gusto, but our Australian anthem is awful and needs to be changed. I would love ours to be "I am Australian". It takes into account all our variations of background and our country as well.
In Australia you have Iva Davies! Iva is Welsh-Australian and Great Southern Land must be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Iva even has that soaring Welsh voice, full of emotion. Gorgeous!
@@marieravening927 The Seekers did an anthem song you would be proud of. Nobody ran with it. Near enough is good enough in Oz, I'm told.
@@maxwelldownham235 You are wrong about the anthem in one respect. I wish it was taken up as our national anthem, our current one is very ordinary. However all schoolchildren learn the Seekers' one, it's very uplifting and inclusive.
Oh my beloved WALES 💓💓💓💪💪💪💪 greetz and best wishes from Bavaria/ Germany
I love the looks on their faces; they certainly know they are doing something lovely and great!
overopensights, Godliness is on their faces
Welsh massed choirs singing 'Land of My Fathers' is the most stirring anthem. The bigger the choir the better
I am Welsh my grandfathers came to the USA in the 1690's. Am proud of them as all other parts of my American roots. Welsh, Polish and Dutch!!!! All Of It!!!
"While the sea is a wall to the most pure loved land"... (I love that line)
Surely it's one of the most beautiful renditions of the Welsh anthem! Greetings from Brazil
So beautiful n this is the National Anthem that bring us to heaven.....tks Welsh. Love from Indonesian
Why do I have to cry when I hear this? Beautiful anthem and beautiful people who can sing like this.
A proud Welshman living in Cornwall, I listen to this nearly every weekend, especially after a beer. Superb anthem. I love my home nation, though I’m also a proud Brit
I am American but my one set of my 2nd Gr grandparents were born in Wales and emigrated to the U.S 18 years I married a Welsh woman and have lived here dine Oct 2003. I have heard this anthem many times and I agree with Sogal it’s a Beautiful anthem . One of the most beautiful and stirring anthems I have ever heard
can't see us Australians singing our national Anthem with such passion, especially with lines such as "girth by sea"!
I love massed crowd singing Waltzing Matilda at Footy with the Seekers Tops Mate
One of the greatest things to come out Wales. More impressive than your Rugby team coached by Kiwi. Very rare aspect. Where else would
you see one of the lead violinists singing this great tune, whilst playing for the choir? My admiration to her.
One of the great songs ever composed...way ahead of many of those surrounding countries.
Tom, as a Welsh person I find you comment provocative. What does 'way ahead' mean? Who are the surrounding countries you wish to demean?
Very moving...... I almost cried listening to this!
This is so glorious the Welsh national anthem. What an ecstatic performance too!
My father spoke Welsh and didn’t learn English until he went to school. I don’t remember him singing it ( Mum said he and his brother often sang in Welsh. I wish I had known him , he died when I was 3 . It’s lovely to hear that with everyone sing. I hope everyone in Wales speaks Welsh.
Vivette - not everyone sadly, but there has been a huge increase in new Welsh language schools, which are full to capacity.
This is one of the most inspirational performances of the National Anthem I havce heard.
I have always, always loved this anthem. It really stirs my soul.
What a beautiful anthem!
Now this anthem is popular in my country after RWC.
Some day I want to visit Wales.

What a stunning beautiful rendition of this beautiful song. I love it and want to keep playing it. Sung from the soul 💞💞
Only the Welsh, guardians of our British heritage, can sing with such wonderful commitment. Thank you from an English man.

Just lovely dear lady for years only knew it as Beth’s Song from the Quiet Man always brings a tear ❤️from Pamela USA 🙋🏼♀️
Sung with feeling, and meaning, unlike many singings of national anthems where they just want to get it over with and go get another beer. Beautiful
Unfortunately America is failing in this regard Son and you obviously are correct...
The music is quite moving, but the treat is seeing the faces of the Welsh people.
I love my own Irish anthem, but I love this more!
Without any doubt this is the greatest of all time National Anthems.
God bless the Welsh people, their language and culture! They're a proud part of the Celtic peoples.
this is the UKs best anthem so glad my Dad was Welsh and taught it to me
I had never heard this arrangement before, absolutely criminal it's stayed hidden away all this time
I can only say that Jeff Howard has a magic touch when it comes to arranging for large forces like this. I'm biased, he was my harmony and Aural tutor at college, but the man is a genius (quite literally), you should search out his other arrangements, there are MANY....
With my Mum having been born and raised in Betws-y-Coed, half of me is Welsh and the other half wants to be. Corau cymraeg sing the soundtrack to my life and when I hear Mae hen wlad fy nhadau, my heart is full of love for the land and the people who share it. Cymru am byth.
Look at the emotional and pleased facial expressions. Very moving anthem.
When I die and reach the pearly gates and suddenly they open and a Welsh choir is singing….I’ll shriek ‘WOOHOO’…because I’ll know I’ve made it…..HEAVEN! Thank you Welsh people for the joy your singing gives us all😁🤗❤
The Irish love the Welsh when they sing. It is magnificent. Not so much when they beat us in Cardiff.
After listening to their national anthem, I didn't much care, it was all about the craic :) great atmosphere.
