So exciting!! Speaking as a small dog mama, the retractable leash wasn’t the best for us. A harness with a standard 6 ft leash worked great! Hope you guys enjoy your new family member!!!
I hate extendable leads with a passion! apart from the lack of control they give, the dog can get into so many bad habits like thinking they are entitled to go wherever they want. This happened to my sisters dog and whenever you stop her from going where she wants she can get very bitey and now has to see a behavourist.
Probably had no choice, given she was at a rescue. Some people get rid of puppies so quickly. It's heart breaking. But at least she is with an amazing family ❤
She needs puppy milk. She’s very young and weeks too early to leave her mother. I’d take her to the vet and get all the advice possible for such a young pup
I have a 12 week old puppy now, and we still soak her food for two hours so it’s easier to eat and digest. So I really recommend seeing as she is only 6 weeks old to soak her dry food. And if your into it you should also research crate training as it’s really useful and creates a safe space for the puppy when their tired, guests are over etc and also prevents accidents all over the house at night. Good luck with you’re new puppy!!!
I fully agree with you about the crate. My dog started out using a crate and he always puts himself in it when he is feeling frightened or insecure and also he knows when he usually goes to bed and will put himself in there on his own. Also, my dog doesn't care for little people (kids) I rescued him at over a year old, from an abusive home, so he crates himself when kids come over and I do lock the door and cover him with a blanket to help him to settle. In the wild dogs will find caves for their sleep and feeling of safety. Make very sure it is not too big, just big enough that she is able to stand, lay down and turn around, not much bigger than that.
@@HeidiLilley yes exactly, crates are amazing! My puppy is still getting used to it during day time but loves it at night. And I’m glad you gave your doggy a much better life than what it had before.
Yes, my dog considers his kennel his safe place. When he was just a baby he'd be so pleased at night when I would carry him to his kennel for the night.
If everyone in the family reacted like this to the dog imagine when you have children haha.... LOVE to see you make Savannah the happiest girl in the world! You guys are a great couple.
I am a pre-vet student and have experience in the vet field so I thought I would fill you in on some things to look for. Pugs are a brachycephalic breed (they have a squished face) which commonly have issues with breathing, eating, and overheating. So, I would keep an eye on these things with her. You might try feeding her on a plate as she was having difficulty getting the food from the corner of the bowl. I would also try not to have her out in the heat a lot and maybe get a cooling jacket for summer walks. Also keeping her at a fit weight is super important for pugs. Extra fat will make it more difficult for her to breathe. You should be able to easily feel but not see her ribs. It is super common for pugs to require surgery to open their nostrils and shorten their soft palate. If you notice her making sounds while breathing I would take her to a vet to be evaluated for that surgery. She is adorable and congrats on the new addition!
So happy that your puppy adoption went so well. I was getting worried too with the parking lot meet up, but when you explained the rescue and the papers and they gave you all the correct info and food, you can feel more at ease and excited for this new addition. I see more puppy vlogs in the future!! This little Mella has brought so much love and happiness already!!!!
So excited for you guys! Personally my smaller dog has anxiety and stuck with her crate and absolutely loves it. We raised her in it (on a dog bed of course). The worst thing is really just the teething. Nylabones are amazing for teething. Don't let her chew ropes alone though. (Choking hazard). I'm sure you (Alex) know about dogs since your family has had so many. It's still difficult as a new owner though. Dollar tree for example sells these little bells that hang from door knobs (you can hang them lower since she's so tiny), if you put them by the door and ring them everytime she goes outside to go potty she'll learn quickly to ring it if she needs to go. This was super helpful raising my puppy. A lot less messes. Hope this helps!
Congratulations guys! I got my first puppy about a year ago. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love having a companion and cuddle buddy. Make sure you socialize the puppy as much as possible to different places, people, and sounds.
Word of advice, I know you guys probably don’t need it but. My family has owned pugs since the 1970s and I just wanted to share some info. Pugs are predominantly mouth breathers since they have nasal issues in there genetic make up ( having such a squished nose). So please be careful with her when you put her near water. Make sure you clean the folds on her face because they tend to get infected pretty easily. Also, be careful with that flexileash( the retractable leash) because they have caused injuries in the past to dogs. They also tend to have ear infections quiet often, so just be aware of that as well. They also tend to over heat often, so make sure you’re keeping her cool. Otherwise, congratulations guys I am so happy for both of you. Welcome to puppy parenthood. You’ll do great, have fun, and enjoy her. Also, I hope you didn’t take my advice as ill intended, just wanted to share from our experience. ❤️🐾
Super cute, but please do some research on Parvo. One of my friends puppies just died from it and my other friend will not even let one of her big dogs go to the groomers till their baby get all of his shots. Congrats, you guys will make great puppy parents.
This is just heartwarming to see . Welcome to the family Mella !!! Alex the way you take care of Savannah is amazing . Love watching your journey and so excited for all the adventures to come .
Oh my gosh, your new Pug is adorable ❤ That was so sweet of you to surprise Savannah with the new baby girl Alex! I'm sure Mella will bring the both of you so much joy for years to come. Congratulations!!
Oh Lordy, Lordy!!! What a darling little sweetheart!! Mella? Too cute!! Have so much fun raising her and playing and finding out her little quirks that make her unique and special 💖 congratulations! I have a little 5 pound Yorkshire Terrier I named Chevrolet, Chevy for short. He's my little spitfire. He flies across the room with my cat Blackie in record speed and they usually bang against the front door. They love each other and I love them.
What astounds me is how capable Crystal and Aaron are at such a young age. I have a daughter of 36, unmarried but has a long term boyfriend, no children (yet!) and I cannot imagine her with one, let alone 16!! You really are a dream family, along with the Crazy Middles. Truly wonderful parents, all of you. Love from the UK XX
First (fur)kid in the house! 🥳 Savannah was well prepared.👍🏼 Over the next months you will figure out, which things are really necessary and a good buy and which are not. My daughter tried 3 or 4 different leashes and harnesses until she find the perfect combination. Same with the dog bed: At last it's the one the dog loves, not the one my daughter thought would be great. She donated all the things she ended up not using to the nearby shelter. Her dog (Jack Russel mix) loves *one* teddybear and everything made out of ropes, no interest in other toys or balls - so the dogs at the shelter had a feast. 🤣 So congrats to your addition, I wish Mella a long, healthy and happy doggy life with you! 🐶🐾
Aww you guys are SO CUTE! Savannah is gonna be the best dog mom EVER! She clearly loves that little baby girl with all her heart already. Little baby girl is so little though! I've always been told you should never take puppies from their mum before they're at least 8 weeks old. I'm sure there's good reason little Mella moved away earlier though, and I'm sure she'll be treated as a little princess :)
Mella is so dang cute! and you guys are going to be the best puppy parents...you are so well prepared and she is going to get all the love a puppy needs
Mella is the cutest thing. Please make sure you check with your apartment manager to make sure you are allowed to have dogs and pay the pet deposit. Wouldn't want you to get kicked out for having an unauthorized pet. Just looking out for you. So excited for y'all. 😀❤️
Congrats on the new edition. You guys are going to be excellent puppy parents. Alex you are so adorable. I love how deeply you love everyone. I love that you shaved. Your smile just lights up your face now! So happy you are treating Savannah like a Princess. She is a blessed young lady and so are you to have her. You’re the perfect couple. 🥰🥰🥰
Congratulations Alex and Savanna! Mella is absolutely adorable! So happy for you all! She will give you many years of happiness and joy! A precious addition to your Family! Much respect always! Mark in Iowa.
Alex really is one of the nicest young men on you tube and I imagine in real life. His interactions with his family really show what a wonderful young man he is. I really cannot wait to see his family grow. Pugs and all
Congrats! Make sure she gets to the vet ASAP! If the people who rehomed her actually worked for a rescue, there’s no way they would have let her go before 8 weeks old. Something is definitely up with the people who rehomed her.
6 weeks! She is too young to be away from her mom and siblings. She should be with them for at least 8 weeks, it is with them that she learns to be a dog: canine language, bite inhibition and much more. I recommend you sign her to professional socialization training right away, it will help her a lot. Socializing your dog is preparing it to live comfortably by having stress-free, positive experiences as a pet within human society. Dog socialization involves acclimating your puppy to a variety of people, animals, environments, smells, sights, and sounds. Socializing your dog is also beneficial to you because you don't have to worry about your dog reacting negatively in normal situations. You'll feel confident letting your dog run free at a dog park or sit by your feet at a coffee shop since you know your dog is capable of handling those situations. It's easier to socialize a young puppy because young animals are more capable of absorbing new information and experiences, and once they grow older they become more apprehensive around anything unfamiliar. The prime puppy-socialization period is between three and 16 weeks of age. With a good trainer, you certainly won't make things worse accidentally!
Alex, Pet parenthood before marriage, congratulations. OMGOODNESS Savannah is a Mama. I have a feeling she is going to be SO spoiled. Makes me want one. I see Alex as daughter-Dad in the future, say 2 to 5 years in the future. This puppy is good training toward being people - parents. LOL! 😂
Omg she is so precious so happy for you 2 but I highly recommend you harness train her for walks because even though you have the 16 foot retractable leash it's a lot safer to have her on a harness she can still wear the collar but when on walks hook the leash to the harness so she doesn't try to choke herself
Harnesses are great for little dogs because it protects their tracheas, as small dogs are prone to collapsed tracheas. Also because of the smooshed nose they can have breathing issues so please get her a small harness. I will also tell you as someone who has worked in the veterinary field, retractable leashes are not good. They can be dangerous to both you and her. She is so small right now and honestly will never need 16 ft leash. You don’t want her to be that far away from you when she is on a walk. Congratulations on your new baby. As someone else mentioned please don’t let her outside except in a very clean area until she has all her puppy shots due to parvo, it spreads very easily. Also because she was taken from her mom so early please be sure to socialize her really well, while she is young. Most puppies are with momma for 8-12 weeks not because they need her to eat but because momma teaches them how to dog and how to be social. So she will need you to teach her these things.
I would definitely recommend using a harness rather than attaching the lead to a collar as they can have breathing issues especially because they can pull which presses on their windpipe. Don’t forget, microchip her and put her details on a collar. I live in the uk so the details may be different, but we need a phone number, a house number and postcode the owners surname. Unless it is a legal requirement never put their name on anything as that can lead to them being stolen.
Alex, you’re such a sweetheart!!! And a good man!!!!! I wish y’all all the happiness in the world!! I love your new pup! ❤️Thanks for sharing your lives with us!!! ❤️🌹
She’s way to young to be away from her mum they are meant to be given away at 8+weeks but I’m not sure if that’s the same in every country as I live in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 and here they have to be 8+ weeks She’s absolutely gorgeous
Welp next Savannah will surprise Alex with his turtle I mean Alex needs a new best friend since Mella took his. 😆 She's so cute! Love your little family! Also we are fostering to adopt a two year old puppy and when Savannah was squeezing those dog toys, Luna kept looking at me to give her a toy 😆
Melli is adorable. I loved savanna’s reaction. Alex you are such a great young man. You are going to be a great husband and dad some day. For now just pet parents lol When is the turtle coming 🐢. Can’t wait to meet him. Alex you need a buddy too
aww how sweet Alex!! Just a trick on potty training....wake up take her out immediately, then like every hour she is out of her kennel or awake take her out. she has a tiny little bladder. she's precious and you've made the whole family happy with this girl!
She’s soooo cute!!! I will say.. I’m a dog groomer and a vet. Tech. Keep up on her nails, pug nail tend to curl really fast and get VERY LONG and can grow into the foot and out the other side, play with her feet while she’s young so that she won’t hate having nail trims later in life. Pugs are also brachycephalic dogs, they can have lots of breathing issues a harness would be best for her(another thing to get her used to while she’s young) I know you guys will be great parents no matter what! Happy for you both
Congratulations puppy parents . She is adorable . Pugs are great little dogs , but they really like to be in pairs . So watch out you maybe just getting another one soon . ❤
Me and my boyfriends first pet is definitely gonna be a pug! We have always dreamed of it ❤️ congrats on the new puppy😊 P.S. y’all are so good to each other, and such a cute couple!
6 weeks is way to young to leave her mommy and here in the Netherlands it isn’t legal to sell dogs that age. 8 weeks is the minimum but 12 is the best age I think.
OMG HOW EXCITING!!! Soak in the little puppy moments! Take lots of pictures! And Keep their first everything!!!!! (collar, harness, clothes) to compare when your dog is full grown! You forget how tiny they actually were
@@alexpettit596 she does she is probably the most sweetest person I know and I know she will be a amazing puppy mom and Alex will be an amazing puppy dad to!😊
About 2 years ago I had two little kittens, gues know they are not that tiny anymore, but I loved them till the first moment I saw them. I would never let them go anymore. They are my life :)
I hope your wrong about her age, she shouldn't even be away from her mummy if she's only 6wks old, hope you guys are prepared for a puppy it's alot of work and commitment.
My niece had pugs growing up and they were prone to sinus infections so you’ll need to watch her for stuffy nose. Plus grass pollen and dust mites irritate their little noses too. At least two of my nieces had problems with it. She’s absolutely adorable
Love how crystal said you have to wait 2 years before you can have a kid… and she’s small enough she can fit in a animal backpack carrier so you can take her wherever you go
I saw some people comment about the retractable leash not being great and needing a harness. I have a friend who lost her little dog because somehow the fibers broke on her retractable leash, so a standard leash may be better for regular outings and use the retractable for like at family functions or someplace she can wander a little but not get out of your control. As for a harness I have had many kinds and the best I have found by far is a front lead harness. It helps curb pulling behavior by turning the dog around when they start to pull. I know she will be small, but it does give you better control. If you want to avoid rawhide petco carries a brand called nothin to hide and they are a fantastic rawhide free chew.
Congrats on new puppy! Hopefully it's not from puppymill though, since it was handed over on parking lot and being too young to be separated from it's mom 🤔 Puppymill puppys have higher chance of lot of illnesses. Also two tips: 1. Let her settle to your home for a week or so just with you. Not guest, not you taking her to your parents house. It's scary time for her and you are making it more scarier to her without meaning to. 2. Since it's pug, when it grows older and is about two, do the official walking test with it. Then you will know if it needs surgery to enlarge it's nose for it to breath properly. It's quality of life thing for pugs. Hopefully I didn't sound too negatiivisen on these 😃 I love pups and I'm sure Mella has good home and is loved ❤
Savannah wanting to scream with excitement but not scare the pup and Bella having an emotional meltdown are both very relatable events!
So exciting!! Speaking as a small dog mama, the retractable leash wasn’t the best for us. A harness with a standard 6 ft leash worked great! Hope you guys enjoy your new family member!!!
Yes you can't pull on their necks they need a harness.
Can't control did very well on an extended leash. Can't get them away from mean dogs fast enough either.
I hate extendable leads with a passion! apart from the lack of control they give, the dog can get into so many bad habits like thinking they are entitled to go wherever they want. This happened to my sisters dog and whenever you stop her from going where she wants she can get very bitey and now has to see a behavourist.
I have a chihuahua and have that type of leash not alot of problems unless the collar doesn't fit right
We have a pug, get a harness that you can put the retractable leash on... our girl loves to explore and she does just fine...
6 weeks is pretty young to leave her momma. Usually they don’t leave momma for 8-12 weeks. She is so tiny!
:( they learn so much from their momma dog those last few weeks :(
Probably had no choice, given she was at a rescue. Some people get rid of puppies so quickly. It's heart breaking. But at least she is with an amazing family ❤

Also because she was taken from her mom so early please be sure to socialize her really well, while she is young. Most puppies are with momma for 8-12 weeks not because they need her to eat but because momma teaches them how to dog and how to be social. So she will need you to teach her these things.
Agree
She is adorable guys.I like her so much.Enjoy with Mella:)
So cute. Treat her well. She is so tiny.
Alex, you’re such a sweetheart!!! And a good man!!!!! I wish y’all all the happiness in the world!! I love your new pup! ❤️Thanks for sharing your lives with us!!! ❤️🌹
How sweet! Puppies are the best!!! Well done Alex, what an incredible gift xxx
She’s way to young to be away from her mum they are meant to be given away at 8+weeks but I’m not sure if that’s the same in every country as I live in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 and here they have to be 8+ weeks
She’s absolutely gorgeous
Mella is so adorable. I hope she will be with you for a long, long time. Pugs are so cute.
Aw! Shes the sweetest puppy.
Melli is adorable. I loved savanna’s reaction. Alex you are such a great young man. You are going to be a great husband and dad some day. For now just pet parents lol
When is the turtle coming 🐢. Can’t wait to meet him. Alex you need a buddy too
Omg this is so exciting!!! So happy Savannah is moving in. Your guys dog is so stinking cute!!!
aww how sweet Alex!! Just a trick on potty training....wake up take her out immediately, then like every hour she is out of her kennel or awake take her out. she has a tiny little bladder. she's precious and you've made the whole family happy with this girl!
Mella is the cutest little pug. You and Savannah are such a great couple.
she's adorable! welcome to the family Mella!
Pugs are also brachycephalic dogs, they can have lots of breathing issues a harness would be best for her(another thing to get her used to while she’s young)
I know you guys will be great parents no matter what! Happy for you both
*All dogs nails can keep growing into the foot but it’s very common for nails to curl and grow fast in pugs, beagles, basset hounds, bulldogs etc.
If the puppy is only 6 weeks, she’s too young to be away from her mommy. Puppies shouldn’t be fully weened until 8-10 weeks.
Congratulations puppy parents . She is adorable .
Pugs are great little dogs , but they really like to be in pairs . So watch out you maybe just getting another one soon . ❤
I would go for harness to avoid hurting the dog with the retractable leash, very exciting!
She’s so cute. Just a FYI check with your apartment manager to see if theirs a pet fee. Some places require them.
Me and my boyfriends first pet is definitely gonna be a pug! We have always dreamed of it ❤️ congrats on the new puppy😊 P.S. y’all are so good to each other, and such a cute couple!
Make sure you do research on their breathing problems, they seriously should be even be bred
So happy for you all. As a Pug momma myself, they are the best.
6 weeks is way to young to leave her mommy and here in the Netherlands it isn’t legal to sell dogs that age. 8 weeks is the minimum but 12 is the best age I think.
Aroura is speaking so good I was surprised that she said “I wanna let the puppy” so cute
Make sure you get he parvo shots before you let her be around other dogs. Parvo can kill a puppy very quickly.
Alex being a supportive husband, I love you guys so much 🥰🔥 always be happy
Should be 8weeks before they go to a new home. Have vet shots and things before it with a lot of dogs .
Omg, I'm dying over the bowls "Mine" and "Mine too" 😂🤣
I’ve used retractable leashes and I’ve had two break on me. Now, I use a harness with a standard 6 ft leash. Congratulations 🎉
OMG HOW EXCITING!!! Soak in the little puppy moments! Take lots of pictures! And Keep their first everything!!!!! (collar, harness, clothes) to compare when your dog is full grown! You forget how tiny they actually were
The puppy is adorable. Now I want get a puppy. It was good to see Lizzy for a little bit in this vlog.
You will not be disappointed with a pug , my Winston was the best pug ever. They are lap dogs and just want to cuddle. She is the cutest !
Alex you are literally SUCH a good fiance, treating your queen how you should 😂👏🏻
She’s deserves it
@@alexpettit596 I comment on your video on UA-cam today you are awesome Alex
Congratulations on your little dog Mella, sooooo cute. Bless her! Enjoy the new member of the family! 😘😘😘😘
So glad y’all were well prepared!!! And yesss Alex! Kennel training is so important, congrats!💜💜💜💜
So cute welcome Mella!
What an adorable puppy. Love pugs. They have the sweetest faces. Loved seeing Savannah’s reaction
Why did they take her from her mother at 6 weeks? Thats pretty young
Mella is adorable! Congratulations!
Congrats on new puppy!
Hopefully it's not from puppymill though, since it was handed over on parking lot and being too young to be separated from it's mom 🤔 Puppymill puppys have higher chance of lot of illnesses.
Also two tips:
Omg I almost cried when I saw her,she is the cutest baby puppy in the world, congratulations on your first fur baby
A puppy should not be removed from its mother until it’s 8 weeks or older
Savannah reaction is 🥰🥰🥰 and Alex you’re the definition of an amazing humble man
