The "Legend" is Su-Metal, and 1997 is the year she was born. This show was to celebrate her 16th birthday
Thanks for clarifying '1997'
Moa and yui werent not even born yet in 1997. Im sure you know. 🦊🤟
Great reaction. The "corset" you read about is actually a neck brace and that appears in the official video. It is a tribute to Yoshiki, the drummer, pianist and main composer with legendary Japanese band X Japan - he damaged his neck headbanging and needed surgery - he had to wear a neck brace most of the time after that.
The gong at the end is another tribute to X Japan. BABYMETAL pay their respects to the bands and artists who came before them and who they admire.
BABYMETAL have used the neck brace many times in their live shows - at some everybody in the audience was required to wear one - that includes at the two nights they sold out the Tokyo Dome ... 55,000 people each night all wearing neckbraces with LED bulbs that lit up at special points during the concerts.
'Headbanger' is actually about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday. 15 is a significant age in Japan, that is when compulsory education ends, so the girl is realising she must be grown up and will never be considered as a child again. Her first 15 years passed by so quickly, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget.
Su-metal, the lead vocalist, was still only 14 when they recorded the song, but she could identify ... even though she was already playing metal concerts and festivals at that age.
Legend 1997 was the title of the concert. It took place on 21st December 2013, the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday ... she was born on 20th December 1997, so the concert was to celebrate her birthday - she was the legend of 1997 in effect.
This concert was also the last step in BABYMETAL becoming an independent band in their own right having separated from their parent JPop Idol group (that was Sakura Gakuin - Cherry Blossom Academy. BABYMETAL formed in 2010 as just one of several sub-units of that group. The other sub-units were all commercially more viable so they got all the funding, but against all expectations it was BABYMETAL that went on to become the only group to "make it big").
Only another 50 or so songs to go now and you will get what they are all about if you watch them all. I would suggest their very first major festival outside of japan for your next reaction. In 2014 aged 16, 15 and 15 they found themselves on the main stage at one of the biggest metal festivals - Sonisphere in the UK - facing 50-60,000 UK metalheads who had no idea what was about to hit them when three little Japanese girls in red tutus walked on stage.
The song is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere, UK 2014. It was the last song of the 5 they played in their 25-30 minute slot ... you will hear exactly what those UK metalheads thought of them at the end as they walked off stage.
Thank you for all the background info on the band. They have a very interesting history. I enjoyed this a lot! There is definitely some more coming. Thanks for checking out the video!🤘
That's why I'm willing to pay that much to see three little girls performing metal.🦊
How much are you paying for the time machine? And where can I buy it?
You mean 2 women in their twenties?
My personal answer is literally 1,000,000 yen for just my airfare and hotel for 5 days. I love the band, but I’m also indebted to them to introducing me to an entire world of Japanese music I had zero clue existed. I’m traveling because I want to go to this concert, but I also pay my debts through support. Enjoy.

3:40 Reaction start
Welcome back to the Foxhole.
Now this is a proper introduction of what BabyMetal is capable when performing live on the stage.
Another great reaction, and just like you saw the party on BM live concerts is wild, especially with this song becoming super fun into something like a cult.👀
There's a little misunderstanding when you look for the meaning of this song so I'm gonna try to clear this out.
Like i said in my previous comment you're arriving to a special time coz they've been releasing since 2 months ago their new singles, 2 already out and 3 more coming this year, along with a live performance this month and album release, they will come back to this same venue you're just watching, Makuhari Messe is the name of this huge japanese convention center located outside of Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date and they also got a live version celebrating that special b'day.
This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birth year) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
- "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
- "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending,
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, that's when you'll see the neckbrace for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that is not seen so much here when doing live performances, is when YuiMetal and MoaMetal have fun with the cryo or smoke gun, in the original choreography they're down on their knees while doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is a movement with the arms outstretched as they lean back and forth, as if praising and summoning the spirit of metal represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal stands with the microphone raised and her relentless death stare, that is another moment we call -NotACult- 👀
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
They are:
- Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.)
- Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
- BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
- Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
I would love if you can go with the rest of the songs of this special live concert but if you want another song that ranks high as a favorite you can watch:
- _"Karate"_ live at Download Festival 2016, you can find a clip safe to react at "kitsune6001" channel, also the MV is pretty good but is heavily blocked so take precautions.
I really love how you get into this vibing and headbanging, that's the whole point.
Keep coming back with more BM songs and enjoy the ride into the Foxhole.
See you next time!🦊🤘🔥
Thanks for the great info and for straightening me out! I also wanted to thank you for checking out the video!🤘
Thank you for sharing these important details. 🦊🦊🦊

Great reaction, thanks!
Yep, this is what they actually do. They consider their studio albums as "business cards" (literally), being the live performances their core business.
I promise you everyone in that crowd left the freaking venue astonished. That was an incredible concert and you will discover how they closed it... but you need to watch a few more songs.
This is clean mostly because they search the perfection in every show they put on, have some of the best musicians and technicians and this clip is an actual footage from of one of their DVD/BD, so it's perfectly produced for its purpose. Being this an early song and performance makes it even more impressive and they only got better and better over the years.
And look at your face when the song ends. Priceless! Let me say this: into the Fox Hole you go, head first! 😁
I believe I linked this on your previous video but here is again, an important piece of their history: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014): ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
Until next time!

It is my favorite song. Thank you fro Japan!
I love this song and your welcome!
Now it's my turn to thank you for checking out my video!🔥🤘
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。Just so you know, I have tickets to BM's two-day concerts on coming Jan. 28 / 29. I can't wait 😍.
Can you believe that this is the 12th song after 11 exhausting performance (and still 2 more) ? In your video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 08:43. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!" (addressed to crybabies in the metal concert). This crowd's shout in Japanese occurs wherever BM goes on this planet and whenever Su-Metal turns her mic towards the audience. Of course it did in 2019 US tour (20 gigs) and 2020 Europe tour (17 gigs). In 2021, eight years after this video, BM played this song in all of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN Concerts with Su's matured voice and Moa's more agitating moves. I witnessed it 9 times at the venue and was enchanted to headbang 9 times ヽ(^o^)丿
I'm not envious of many people... ;) I've already informed my wife that when they tour the US again WE ARE GOING TO SEE THEM!
@@stevekreitler9349 I'm not a person making someone envious of me, but my tickets are to "Super Mosh'sh Zone" 💛。 Yeah! BM will definitely go to your country sooner or later. USA and UK are the countries that accepted them in early stage and have made them grow. In addition, the only countries that have held big arena shows at the Forum and Wembley.
First, congrats on the concert tickets... I'm a little jealous! Thanks for all the concert info. They were truly amazing to watch and hear live!
Thanks for checking out my video and have fun at the show! Let me know how it goes! Be safe!🔥🤘
I hope I'm lucky enough to see one of their shows! Thanks for checking out the video 🤘

'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' is a classic BABYMETAL song.
I don't think I've ever heard a bad version.
Even though the song is about a fifteen year old girl attending her first heavy concert, Su was only fourteen when the studio version was recorded.
It's not biographical, but it is a song she could relate to. At that age she was on stage, rather than taking the train to see concerts like the girl in the song.
This was one of their earliest hits, but they didn't play it at all in 2018.
I'm really glad it returned to the setlist the next year.
It was great to finally hear it live on the US tour at the LA Forum.
The description you saw was about the music video, not the meaning of the lyrics.
It is one of those songs that all fans
expect them to play in every show.
Thanks for the background info! Sorry about the meaning... I never saw the video so I assumed it was about the lyrics! I'll work on it! Thanks for checking out my video!🤘

Babymetal will kick off their 2023 tour schedule this January 28 & 29 at the Tokyo International Exhibition Hall. I suspect we will hear Devine Attack-Shingeki performed Live for the first time, which should be a banger!!
Then they will join Sabaton in April, joining his Tour leg which should be epic!! There has also been some speculation on a tour with Korn. Which is a possibility given Korn's production manager recent intervew last October.
_____________________________________________
Where they had taked about how they first met Babymetal & once surprised them on stage with a duel performance. I must have missed that one unfortunately but must have been sick!!
However, they have had some pretty epic collaberations already. Bring Me The Horizon with "Kingslayer" was sold metal gold!! Such a f*** masterpiece & totally unexpected.
____________________________________________
Then "Distortion" with Arch Enemy's Alissa White-Gluz was another banger!! Which I wasn't expecting as so f*** good!! Road To Resistance, which is kind of their battle anthem.
Was a collaboration with DragonForce so there's that. However, one of their best performances for me was Rondo of Nightmare Mischiefs of Metal Gods at Budokan Live Intro. (Black Night)
Su-Metal was only 16 in that performance lol. 🙀💕 Anyways, new album drops March 23rd. Great reaction to a classic BM performance here btw!! 🤘🦊💕
Those are some epic collaborations!
I'm gonna chuck those out!!! They sound amazing!

standing up still, leaning back,
jumping toward the stage, (And then!)
leaning over the fence, (And then!)
rolling over the mob, (And then!)
and then all deeply headbanging.
This special night of my fifteen,
I’ll never forget.
All the crybabies,
get out of here!

All the crybabies,
from here, dis-ap-pear!

The song is about a 15 yr. old girls first experience at a heavy metal concert . And how it changed her life . The legend of 1997 refers to the year Su Metal ( the lead singer's) birth . The concert was for her 16th birthday . Check out the song "Death" from the same concert ( Legend of 1997 ) . Where Su transforms from human to Metal Goddess .
That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for straightening me out on that.
I also wanted to thank you for checking out my video!🤘
the corset (neck brace) was prominent in the music video, and was a tribute to (I think the drummer of X Japan) who hurt his neck headbanging. The song itself is about a girl going to a concert on her 15th birthday (frequent use of the work ichi go 1 5). in japan 15 is like a coming of age, so the girl is basically saying goodbye to her childhood and is now an adult. If you liked this song you may enjoy Road of Resistance (Live in Japan) or Rondo of Nightmare with the mischief of mayhem intro.
You're absolutely right, and his name is yoshiki
I think it's funny because none of the girls were 15 yet when Headbanger was made. Yui and Moa both performed it on their 15ths. Su too? Their first metal concert they were on stage.
@@Jordan-Ramses Moa doing Headbanger on her 20th birthday is probably my second favorite version, just behind the Legend 1997 version. Wish Yui was around to see how she would have done it on her 20th.
@@nothsor I like Yui doing it on her 15th. It would be awesome if the video was high quality.

The legend is just reference to them being a theatrical metal band so the story is 3 young girls die and are reborn as guardians of metal they are immortal warriors protecting the metal god metsigune. They are band that is part of a group a metal artists that built a universe powered by metal. Hammerfall started it in the 90s now they are a bunch of bands that contribute to it.

What you described is what the OFFICIAL VIDEO shows, but it is NOT what the song is about. As you know, most videos have nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. Look up the lyrics bro!!! It's about a 15 year old girl going to her first metal concert. Her experience at the concert. Her experience of being front row center on the barrier. Her losing her Heavy Metal virginity.
You Can't call it "song meaning time" if you don't actually take the time to look up the translated lyrics. Someone just gave you a description of the official video. And as most people know, most videos have absolutely nothing to do with the lyrics of a song, but rather the vision of a directors artistic interpretation.
Been a fan for almost 10 years, I've been to 20 of their concerts, including Tokyo Dome in 2016. You've only just touched the tip of the tip of the iceberg. You think this was great? You ain't seen nothing yet.
