  • The most important thing to do is take pictures, and or video every single step you make.
    Get a clean towel or something and lay your parts on them in the order you take them out and don’t let anybody near them.
    If you lose something you’re screwed, so hopefully you can go to the junkyard and pull an ignition out of an old vehicle or two. I do not know what years are compatible.
    When I reinstalled the steering column I got the gear in the wrong place so the actuator rod needed to be adjusted.

    The key must be in the RUN Position in order to push the locking pin up so you can remove the Key Cylinder out.
    It's all explained in the Haynes Repair Manual. What's most important that the actuating rod and the Ignition Switch are in the proper location. It's also explained in the Manual...
    Good video Sir ..😊

    You are a LIFE SAVER. Had to replace my 97 ranger actuator in the column. And no videos were specifically for my designs or set up. I had to be very careful and put it all together just for my keys to lockout before starting and only come out in accessory 🙃. I’ll head to my work today and see if this does the trick! Been racking my mind all day and night now about how to fix it!

    Thaks for posting this, I've been looking for hours to find a video that shows the green washer and the flat metal piece.
    An jerk of a mechanic put in a new ignition switch and didn't put in the 2 pieces, "the green washer and the flat metal oblong washer".

    Can't even begin to express my gratitude for this video. I had to get a new column for my 96 from a junkyard that didn't have keys so had to drill out the cylinder and of course I went way too far and messed up the green plastic and gear behind it, this is EXACTLY what I needed to figure out how to put it all back in and get the gear aligned when I pick up the parts from the dealer, thanks man!

    I believe that line indicator on the underside of the column should line up with the hole in the actuator rod when all is put together. But I could be wrong...

      @geterdone  7 місяців тому

    • @txsurfnturf

      @@geterdonefor the record,; I'm having a similar problem. Only my key won't turn to accessories position. Haven't bothered fixing it yet because for now, I'm ok starting the truck just using the switch.
      Anyway, what I was saying was I thought you were on the right track by pulling out the key cylinder, inner parts and the little gear. But when putting it all together, and most importantly, replacing the gear, remember that the key position is technically in the run position. Therefore, the actuator rod and ignition switch should all also be aligned in the run position. The run position for the switch is pretty obvious and easy enough to figure out. And frankly, you can just hold it up against the underside of the column and use the pin on the switch 8:08 to help align the hole in the rod so that it is also in the run position. But, I believe that little metal mark on the underside of the column is suppose to indicate the run position anyway. I'm curious, since you got yours sorted out, did you notice that to be the case?

    • @txsurfnturf

Thanks to you I have an idea of what I need to do to fix the problem. Temporarily, I have the ignition switch mounted remotely so i can drive the car. Did you have to get behind the clips with a pick or did you just pull on the plastic piece to get it to come out? Thank you.

      Remove the steering wheel plastic cover and the plastic trim under the steering wheel. Its below the base of the steering wheel. I looked up 1993 F-150 steering wheel column schematic and the following poped up. (www.steeringcolumnservices.com/exploded-view-results.php?y=1993&ma=Ford&mo=F%20150&d=tilt&c=5065)
      It looks like part #11572 on the drawing in the link. Its the tilt column design, you may have to use the menu to select your vehicle.

      Call a junk yard first, you may try here www.villagefordparts.com/v-1993-ford-f-150--xlt--5-8l-v8-gas/steering--steering-column-components
      I don't know if the part is still made.

      I think the old Ford part number may be 3F579 for the retainer, 3E700 for the metal plate called a bearing. The ford parts guy should be able to cross reference the parts to their new system.

    • @geterdone
      @geterdone  3 роки тому +2

      And one more thing, if you do find one of these trucks at the junkyard take everything off of it you can afford to buy especially any electrical connectors, wiring harness, pcm, modules like the ABS module (behind the glove box, and inertia switch (behind the interior passenger side plastic kick panel below the glove box on the outside wall by the door), Throttlebody or at least the throttle body position sensor, Cruise control servo driver side up by the brake booster, all chrome parts, and so on. A lot of those parts are no longer made and they’re all starting to get very expensive if you can find them. For an idea just go on LMC website and check for parts. I think just the plastic part that covers the interior of the door is over $200 so I would buy the doors off the truck or better yet see if you can purchase the whole thing

      Not sure of the technical term, if you have broken parts then you can go to the dealership and get new ignition lock. If you have your vin number they may be able to give you one that fits your same key. Show them what you have. Otherwise, call a salvage/ junk yard and see if they have one.

    My 93 bronco will not start now using the key so I pulled down the ignition ignition switch and it will manually fire up using the little slide bar. I pulled out my lock cylinder and I am missing the green washer. Would that make a difference if I don’t have that? I only have the metal piece? Please answer me back ASAP. Thank you.

    • @geterdone
      @geterdone  11 місяців тому

      Just saw your comment, the green spacer looks like it is necessary because of the metal piece at exactly 5 minutes in the video. The “claws” or tabs on the backside of it probably hold that oblong washer into place and if you don’t put the green piece in it might shift on you and allow the assembly to dislodge and you may or may not be able to turn your key. You might get away with it, but I know car manufactures don’t usually put pieces into mechanisms for no reason.
      Maybe you can put it together and get to the junkyard. I hope that helps you and post them here. If you need more information, I’ll try to keep my eye on my phone for a little while.
