So glad that everyone seems to be enjoying this. A huge amount of credit must go to Sam Riley who wields the cameras with such panache and swishes the editing mouse with such aplomb. We both really love making these films so we'll keep doing them. Thank you for all the suggestions of where we should go next - keep them coming!
Henry Catchpole Truly great videos, really. Congrats! You inspired us: Will be in Scotland with a softtop Jaguar FType in 2020. Very much lookong forward to that experience and to driving the OMR!
I have followed this route twice now and it has been one of my staple roads trips when I am traveling with others. Driven it both in my Ford Fiesta 1.25 mk7 and my BMW 125i coupe. The fiesta felt a little underpowered for the vastness of lots stretches but was very fun on the tighter sections such as when you turn onto the single track road at Balmoral. With the slightly looser surface and limited sight lines it is very enjoyable in the fiesta. Then I went in the BMW 125i which was a very different experience, partially due to the 3 litre straight 6 and partially because the road was lined with snow. They do a very good job of clearing the road so it was still possible to enjoy pace. Very enjoyable route in a wide variety of cars because it varies so drastically.
@Henry absolutely love - sometimes after the Wife and kids are gone to sleep I sit with a glass of single malt - sound cranked up, and its pure Goosebumps ... One af the best car / road video's ever, shortly after I saw it the first time ... I skipped all my Porsche plans - and bought a 2012 Vantage S, modified with handcrafted Öhlins dampers - Race cats, twin clutch - lightend flywheel, manifolds etc. Would love to take it to Scotland, but it's a long way from Denmark 🇩🇰, and you drove on the wrong side ☺️ Love my Aston, thank you for the inspiration ❤️
I love watching this even now and I’ve watched this video well over 25 times now I imagine. It is my absolute dream car and at 23 it’s my goal to own one by the time I’m 30
I live in Australia and saw this video when it came out. I always dreamed to drive this road one day. I am on holidays in Glasgow. Today I hired an Audi V10 R8 and drove it both ways. Can't remember when I've had so much fun. Thanks for the video. Everything you said about the drive is true, plus more.
I am just back from a few days in Scotland and drove these very roads and without question they exceeded every expectation. Sadly I didn't have the luxury of a V8 Aston, just a humble AMG A45 but none the less it was a fabulous experience. Lovely to see was the quote from Henry on the plaque at the Devils Elbow. If you are in 2 minds, go drive this route, it is simply breath-takingly beautiful...
The A45 in the same hands would leave the Aston behind on that road, though i think most would still prefer to do it in the Aston. Better still do it on sports bikes like we did for years, wet or dry always a great experience.
If anyone else is ever wondering about the music at 11:30, I scoured the internet for years and just happened upon it. It's called Symbiosis 2 by Adam + Dan Skinner and can be found on Audionetwork. This is still my favourite automotive video on youtube and the music only helps to make it even better.
the ending at 11:10 almost got me to tears... easily the best and most beautiful video i've seen so far - it's the stuff dreams are made of. well done evo, thank you!
What an incredible piece of motoring journalism. Seriously. The greatest trick of a journalist is to make the viewer/reader 'feel' the piece or subject that they're reviewing. The choice of words, the mannerisms, the emotion of it, not to mention the video production. No-one needs to hear 'costume change' when referring to the differing conditions but it helps put us there when you do and that is very admirable indeed. Tomalin used to do this - this is like Tomalin's work. It's the best compliment that I think I can give...
I've been saying for years that this is the best road in Scotland. The scenery coming down from the Lecht at sunset is other-worldly. I thought Henry caught the mood of the road and the setting beautifully.
I'm parting with a substantial amount of money and collecting the keys to a 2016 V8 Vantage in 3 hours. This video played a very large part in shaping my decision, and looks set to form the basis of my next road trip. Thank you Henry, Sam and the rest of the EVO team.
Car video doesn't get any better than this. Catchpole is my kind of enthusiast. The photography and sound were incredible. I could imagine the off road trekking it took to get some of those shots. Thanks guys!
This superb video inspired me to buy a 4.3 Vantage manual and spend a small fortune refining/upgrading the suspension, damping, brakes etc to mirror this car. Totally worth every penny! Superb...
When i was a boy and someone asked me, what country i wanted to visit, i always respond Scotland, the feel, the desire, the conection was there. Now im 33 years old and life caught up to me, Scotland was far, but not forgoten, its a dream i have. Awsome video!! Thank u EVO to keep me dreaming, maybe 1 day...
I watch this film whenever I feel like dreaming about bombing down a country lane. All of it is brilliant, and I'll watch this video for the rest of my life.
If Aston ever want to sell a few more cars, and judging by their recent stock market performance, now would be the time, this masterpiece of a video is the single best advert any car company could wish for. Saved up for an age for a sports car to enjoy on weekends, and just when I was umming and ahing, contemplating whether to bother, I encountered this video and a week later blew all my savings on a 12 year old V8 Vantage! Henry mentions in the video the engine isn't quite loud enough, but removal of Fuse 22 permanently opens the exhaust valve for the full fat aural experience, and although I spend most of my time in petrol stations, ala Alan Partridge, it's worth the cost of super unleaded to hear the V8 at full song. Whilst some of the roads around here in the Brecon Beacons are spectacular, I hope one day to visit the Old Military Road, open the swan doors invitingly and follow in the tyre tracks of Mr Catchpole.
As a scot, sometimes it's good to watch others' reactions to where we live. It's a reminder not to take a beautiful place for granted. The view out our front door is stunning....and half the time I jump in the car and don't even look at it! This probably applies to locals all around the world. Some cities are amazing as well. Appreciate!
This is one of my favourite vids.... I was lucky enough to make this journey in 2011 in a V12 Vantage, but heading in the opposite direction to Henry’s route, and what an epic road it is. This video captures the essence of that run so well....great job Henry.
After all these years this is still one of the most incredible films caputerd about the essence of driving. No other piece of video captures the spirit of adventure and the beauty of driving quite like this one does... Bravo!
The quality of these videos is just staggering...amazing work guys and thanks!! Scotland is such a beautiful magical country, I need to go there someday. Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, and the Scandinavian countries are some of the most beautiful parts of the world. Basically anything that ends in "land" is probably a gorgeous place. The most beautiful place in the world to me though, and the next place I think Evo should film at, is New Zealand. New Zealand is the crowning jewel of planet Earth. Go to the South Island and take whatever vehicle you wish (something with a V-12's is encouraged) and film it- it would be pure gold.
I absolutely love these videos. Driving for the sake of driving. Beautiful cars, beautiful locations, beautiful description. Thanks guys, for always inspiring me to drive a little further.
What a great piece of film. It’s faulty local to me so I know it well and I’ve sang it’s praises to many. To continue, the 25 miles from Granton on Spey to Forres is spectacularly enjoyable.
henry, this has to be the very best video i've seen from you. there's the information as always, but the story, the descriptions, the emotional investment as well as the emotional return. thank you. thank you for all of this.
Massive thankyou to Henry Catchpole & the Evo team for highlighting this route on this epic video. We did the exact route last year as part of a 1500 mile autumnal road trip in 2021, it was the highlight of our year on roads that will live in the memory forever.
One of the best video you guys made in awhile. Not saying others not good, just this one is stunningly beautiful. Great content, music, presentation, cinematography, everything. Well done.
This is my SECOND favourite YT Vid of all time...After Henry's Porsche Boxster GTS in Majorca...But again...Strunning work, pure art, and made me go there in my own sportscar on Holiday and enjoyed every minute. 👍🏻 Thanks Henry. ☺️
This is it Evo, you've really done it. The perfect driving video. Some of my friends don't get, cars and driving for the sake of it, this is the video I will show them to try and make them understand. Also what I road, I've been lucky enough to drive it a few times. On, longer than they should be, drives back from RAF Lossiemouth to Edinburgh. What a car, what a place. Keep up the good work.
I've only just became aware of this video. I know these roads well. The A939 from Corgaff over the Lecht ski station to Tomintoul is my favourite. Fortunately I live only 45 min drive away. The view of the road as it rises from the Corgarff viewpoint up to the ski station is immense. And it's mostly deserted, especially on a weekday.
EVO, you make the best videos. Celebrating driving is something most other channels forget getting held up on numbers in every single video, even on something as mundane as a ford focus. Keep it up!
Beautiful car, scenery and most importably film. This is of incredible quality - it lives up to the incredibly high standard we've come to expect from evo. Thank you.
Another sublime video Henry, and stunning editing as well! Driving those roads in an Aston Martin DBS is still on my bucket list.. who knows it might become reality some time.
I thought the same as you but things change. I’ve driven that road in my V12 Vantage S last year and it was magical. I can’t wait to do it again. Never stop believing in yourself and it can happen!!😉
This was, by a mile, the best, most poetic and richest car review I have ever watched. Henry Catchpole? I'll be looking out for more or your reviews like this one. Well done.
I dont normally comment on videos but I just had to on this: I'm just back from spending a week in Tomintoul and this video is 100% spot on. I followed these twisty's all the way up and going home and it is definitely the best driving road I've been on (even in the lashing rain). This being despite the fact I only had a 1.2L Polo to go about in; I can only imagine how fun you had in the Aston!
I have seen the video so many times and it always amazes me again. Great job, guys! I always wanted to go back to Scotland, but when I saw this video for the first time about two years ago, I knew I had a reason. Looking forward to driving the OMR next year in a Jaguar FType S.
Thanks Henry and greater Evo for this absolutely majestic video. It's honestly very refreshing to hear about the drive as the most important part of what is motoring. Opposed to a clip all about laptimes to the thousandth of a second, how many milliseconds a shift takes and other non essential factoids. Scotland seems like such an extraordinary place, one that is definitely on my bucket list to drive in my lifetime.
Because of this amazing video, a collegue and I rented a Jaguar F-Type S and did the same route through Cairngorms and further. Absolutely amazing. Thanks Henry!
OK, that's a summer trip sorted. What an epic video. That last scene getting into the car was lovely. The lighting and the weather looked just perfect. Suitably jealous.
Henry, you and your team at EVO have provided me, thanks to HD and a 24" computer screen, just a whisper into the fabulous journey you experienced. Being able to see and feel what you describe about the scenery, and your experience, was a masterful piece of filmmaking. The car, bug splattered and all, was truly a perfect choice to take us on this adventure.
Phenomenal video. The camera shots and angles are superb, the narration is informative and insightful, and the car is beautiful. Loved the last scene, that piano is perfection.
Brilliantly worded ending...perfect. I replayed those words again and again. The whole video was so well done nice commentary but not too much. Beautiful scenery and the rumble of the Aston. Almost as rejuvenating as really driving it. Thank you.
Dear Henry Catchpole. I am starting to more and more love your videos. I know this is an old one, but since I am going to have a huge trip to Scotland this year (my 8th), I thought some appreciation could not be wrong.
So glad that everyone seems to be enjoying this. A huge amount of credit must go to Sam Riley who wields the cameras with such panache and swishes the editing mouse with such aplomb. This is THE best video in whole UA-cam, hands down! Fantastic job Henry and Sam!
Greetings from Finland!
Henry Catchpole Truly great videos, really. Congrats! You inspired us: Will be in Scotland with a softtop Jaguar FType in 2020. Very much lookong forward to that experience and to driving the OMR!

Love my Aston, thank you for the inspiration ❤️
We really need to bring this series back!
This is so poetic, it brought a tear of petrol to my eye... Wish I could do the same someday...
keanehgz You could! Don't need an Aston to have fun on a road like that... I bet it would still be amazing in my little BMW :)
You got tears of petrol? Sounds like you need some democracy 2 me.. MURIICAA
AdoIf88HitIer hahahah good one. bring him democracy
keanehgz tear of petrol…LOL
+ErikMartijn I do that road twice a week in an E30 318iS (in summer!), it IS amazing ;-)
I love watching this even now and I’ve watched this video well over 25 times now I imagine. It is my absolute dream car and at 23 it’s my goal to own one by the time I’m 30

Do you have anything, forum, photos, videoes, anywhere to share? I may do this on my own as a little mental detox, just me and the FF.
Top Job!👏👏👏👏👍
I think this is the best episode made by EVO
Tacobelcanon I agree. After all the comparisons, all the numbers, it really is about driving a great car on a great road with some great sounds.
Tacobelcanon Came here to find this comment, I second it.
I just can't stop myself from repeatedly watching this video. It completely empties my head of everything else.

Thank you so much! I've been looking for it forever.
Also fan of "This will destroy you" 👍🏻
The walking to the Aston in the end was pretty good.
Tiago André lol, yes. was just thinking what a great idea and shot that was. whoever came up with that idea deserves a tip of the hat
Anyone know the music at that part?
This is everything I want from a car video. I wish there were more like this.
I don't think there would be any better feeling than being behind the wheel of an Manual Aston on that road, Evo terrific as always.
I think the only thing that would beat it (for me at least) is going into space or being in a modern jet fighter.
Who knew driving could get this relaxing. Breathtaking views.
The ending gave me goosebumps. Well done Evo.
I keep coming back to this one. Wonderfully done
the ending at 11:10 almost got me to tears... easily the best and most beautiful video i've seen so far - it's the stuff dreams are made of. well done evo, thank you!
That ending is epic... Can't explain it....

This video is a work of art. Watched it at least 10 times. By far one of the best car videos ever. I WILL do that drive one day in a Vantage.
Bitcoin and crypto currency. Start researching.
I'm so lucky to live in Scotland... Amazing driving roads.
I keep revisiting this video and I never get bored, the best car video ever.
I've been saying for years that this is the best road in Scotland. The scenery coming down from the Lecht at sunset is other-worldly.

Stunning. Superb. Mesmerizing. This is Evo.
I watch this film whenever I feel like dreaming about bombing down a country lane. All of it is brilliant, and I'll watch this video for the rest of my life.
Drive these roads a countless number of times a year. In summer and winter. It is truely beautiful. Thanks for reminding me of that!
If Aston ever want to sell a few more cars, and judging by their recent stock market performance, now would be the time, this masterpiece of a video is the single best advert any car company could wish for.

A drop dead gorgeous rip roaring N430 Aston martin in the beautiful mountains of Scotland wow brilliant
After all these years this is still one of the most incredible films caputerd about the essence of driving. No other piece of video captures the spirit of adventure and the beauty of driving quite like this one does... Bravo!
Fully agree... I pushed me to buy my current Vantage S
Will never get tired of watching this video. A beauty.

Best Evo video yet. Henry also proves he is the best Evo host with this piece of pure class
What a great piece of film. It’s faulty local to me so I know it well and I’ve sang it’s praises to many. To continue, the 25 miles from Granton on Spey to Forres is spectacularly enjoyable.

Beautifully written, beautifully narrated, beautiful car.
this is an amazing piece of motoring journalism. henry is the man, the aston seems like the real deal and, well, scotland is simply beautiful.
I got serious goosebumps during the closing sequence. What an unbelievably great ending to that video. Thanks for some great feelings :)
wow, this must be one of the best automotive youtube videos
Evo seems to be the best at harmonising cars with the emotions that they give to drivers. Properly brilliant video. BIG thumbs up!
That was epic and one of the best EVO videos I've seen!
Massive thankyou to Henry Catchpole & the Evo team for highlighting this route on this epic video. We did the exact route last year as part of a 1500 mile autumnal road trip in 2021, it was the highlight of our year on roads that will live in the memory forever.
Happy to give my finite time to EVO when the content is this satisfying.
Can't believe I'm discovering this now, nothing looks better than an Aston driving though the Highlands
Just rewatching this, what a sublime piece of video journalism on an equally sublime road
One of the best video you guys made in awhile. Not saying others not good, just this one is stunningly beautiful. Great content, music, presentation, cinematography, everything. Well done.

So beautifully shot and edited. No need for fancy filters and post effects. Just great lenses, cameras, and of course subjects. Bravo. Great job guys.

Love coming back and watching this video! Scotland is amazing.
Beautiful car, scenery and most importably film. This is of incredible quality - it lives up to the incredibly high standard we've come to expect from evo. Thank you.
Henry deserves an award for his brilliant videos
Best evo video I've seen yet.
Properly excellent. I could watch a whole series about the best roads in Scotland!
probably one of the most beautiful videos with an aston martin ive seen honestly
I have watched this episode so meany times it is the best EVO magazine episode I think I just love it so thank you.
I love Evo and love when Henry is driving. Do this more please.
Scotland, Aston, this video... just beautiful! Thank you Henry for this poetry in motion!!
I can't stop watching this. What a brilliant video. It's my dream to have my own Aston Martin
Another sublime video Henry, and stunning editing as well!
Driving those roads in an Aston Martin DBS is still on my bucket list.. who knows it might become reality some time.
Absolutely refreshing. A wonderfully produced film
This video is so good I keep coming back to it every 6 months or so. A moveable feast, it is
Astonishing Scenery. Beautiful Car. Amazing Camerawork. Gorgeous Country. = Incredible Video.
Inspired by this video, I was lucky enough to take a DB9 on this route in perfect conditions. Truly awesome, thanks Henry Catchpole, great job Sir.
The saddest thing about this video is that I will probably never drive an Aston Martin on that road.
Magical videography & story telling. Thank you!
I thought the same as you but things change. I’ve driven that road in my V12 Vantage S last year and it was magical. I can’t wait to do it again. Never stop believing in yourself and it can happen!!😉
Wow, that video. That car, the stunning nature and the calm soundtrack next to the lovely engine sound. Simply a wonderful piece of art, thanks EVO :)
Got to be one of best episode on UA-cam thank you I am going to watch this again 👍
Those roads have been my playground for the last 40 years!
Glad you enjoyed it! Wonderful film!❤️👍👏👏👏
That might be the best EVO video I've watched. Superbly written, well narrated, beautifully shot & edited. Brilliant work chap!
A truly breathtaking, beautiful video. Henry thank you!
I have seen the video so many times and it always amazes me again. Great job, guys! I always wanted to go back to Scotland, but when I saw this video for the first time about two years ago, I knew I had a reason. Looking forward to driving the OMR next year in a Jaguar FType S.
The Dream Sequence at the end gave me goosebumps... Catchpole is the man...
This may be the most beautiful EVO video ever
Great capture, great music accompanying , great places, great car..
What an amazing Video! Thanks for uploading this great footage. That last shot was breathtakingly beautiful.
The filmmaker who is shooting and editing these "best driving road" bits is exceptionally talented... my hat goes off to him.
I wish I could like this video a thousand times. My dream car and my dream drive. So beautiful.
I absolutely love these videos made by EVO. The sounds, scenery, and the narrative provides a chilling vision.
Phenomenal video. The camera shots and angles are superb, the narration is informative and insightful, and the car is beautiful. Loved the last scene, that piano is perfection.
4 years on, this is still the best ever EVO video. Came back specially to watch it
Keep watching this over and over again, can't wait for our trip in August!
Just incredible! Certainly added the Old Military road to the bucket list!
Very well done, maybe the best Evo episode ever.
What a stunning piece of motoring film production, well done Henry.
I'm suddenly not missing TopGear as much now........ ;-) Brilliant, well done Evo team!
