Really cool collection. Lots of history there ! Thanks to John for taking the time to drive all the way to Arizona and thank you Matt for sharing your meeting.
That was one of the coolest videos I have ever seen on UA-cam. What a wonderful tribute from a kind and generous man. And Matt , you are a treasure to the wet shavings community. This kind of content makes me want to support your company more than anything else. Bravo!
Hi Matt. Larry from Kingsville Ontario. Great collection John. I've known your family my entire life, and your brother has cut my hair several times. Gaffan's is a Kingsville institution. Carry on the barbering tradition! Cheers
While I love all your videos, this one is on another level, love the vintage mugs, so many stories from each one of them. Glad John drove them safely to you. This was a treat on Christmas Day:)🎄
At 24:14 you can see the mug that I got for Christmas from my wife! It's the 4th from the left. Name is Mildridge. The symbol with the skull and crossbones is for the Knights of Pythias. You can see it again at 25:01 and 25:22 to the left of the giant yellow mug.
This video has been one of my favorites. I like collecting vintage razors and barbering items, mugs and brushes rate high on my list. So watching the video I felt like a kid in a candy store. Have a great day.
Super cool collection u have there. I have one of those old cut throat razers, i sharpened it up and decided to shave my legs with it. Lol. That was real fun, but my legs looked like they got attacked by a cat afterwards. Lol.
What an awesome collection to acquire. Watching the unboxing of all these fabulous vintage items was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing you shave with the vintage travel straight razor, Matt. Merry Christmas.
This Christmas gift is much better than socks. I have always known that Matt knows about razors. That can sort of be acquired knowledge. This video shows that he is truly a shaving expert. Really cool knowledge between these two assets of the hobby.
One of the most interesting videos I've seen in a long time. Really outstanding. I could be wrong about this, but the mug with the medal, I think that is a Civil War Medal of Honor.
It’s a great place to visit. I visited, from Southern California for the first time back in September. I’m definitely planning on visiting again next time I am working out of our Chandler yard.
One note re: WW2 era sets. Some were indeed issued. Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot (still exists as part of Defense Logistics Agency) contracted with a few (well, at least Gillette and Gem) to produce shaving kits for the military supply system. You'll find a variety of configurations, as manufacturers "Frankensteined" razors together from available bench stock, parkerized/coated them black and called it a day.
Matt, John, thank you. This is my favourite type of wet shaving video to watch. I absolutely loved watching. John thanks for sharing your collection. I own 5 Vintage Gillettes and 5 brushes so a very small collection. I really enjoyed watching. Happy Christmas and best wishes for the New Year, Best regards from Australia
That was really cool. I have the Avon brush decanter, but I am still looking for the DE razor. John Kelly is my neighbor, it seems you have his mug. I was at an auction a couple of months ago and they had a couple dozen of those mugs and I brought money, but they ran out of time for the day, and never got to them when I was there. They were doing it again the next weekend, but I couldn't go. 😢 Yes I want to see the rolls razor in action. I have one too. But never had the 🥚🥚.
Dear Matt, Merry Christmas to you, your esteemed family, and your hard-working co-workers at the Razor Emporium and REX Supply Co. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year with lots of health, happiness, and peace. And thanks a lot for this video. Cheers from EARAN (IRAN).
I have the Gillette Tech box with razor. Not as nice as yours, though. It's from 1953. It was my Dads. Also got a Rolls razor. I'd love to see a video on that. Just a side note. 7 days without incident. If I worked there, I would be cutting myself every day. 😂😂 Awesome video.
Interesting about the scuttle being made in Staffordshire. It was must likely from one of the 6 towns that now form part of the City of Stoke-on-Trent, an area still know to this day as the ‘Potteries’ and whose football team Stoke City is still known as the ‘Potters’, due to the amount of pottery manufacturing going on. Think of such names as Wedgewood, Royal Doulton, Moorcroft and Spode, and, more recently, Emma Bridgewater and Steelite. Some of us from Stoke-on-Trent still call ourselves the ‘plate turners’ - whenever we find ourselves in any hotel or restaurant anywhere in the world, we will instinctively look at the potter’s mark underneath items of earthenware to see if it bears the words “Staffordshire” or “Stoke-on-Trent”. You’d be surprised just how often this is the case!
Great video Matt. So interesting to see all the vintage stuff! I've been meaning to email you for a while about my Grandfather's razor that you might find interesting. Mark Szoradys Monday morning mailbag for Feb 14, 2022 at the end of the video has the history and pictures of it. Check it out when you can. Let me know what you think! Paul Desjardins
DE are better for cartridge razors? No, it is purely a matter of the politics of the markets that offer us ideology. We have become politicized and hate the choices of others not out of benefit but out of prejudice because we belong to another pack. The bottom line is that technology has displaced DEs as an obsolete genre and that we traditionalists are a slim minority who like all slim minorities hate the "system",,,,in this case symbolized by the now hated Gillette represents. If the technique and the appetite are given, Gillette cartridges are chaotically superior in everything combined with a good lubricant, be it cream or soap. The propaganda of the investors and the commercial movement of the neo-traditional is based on aggressive evangelical argumentation that invalidates every other modern option and which we are required to follow with religious reverence as a proselyte. I no longer follow the scheme from above, and each of us has the right to choose without invalidating the other's choice due to ideology.

Gorgeous collection! So glad it’s going somewhere it will be honoured and respected yet shared with the general public. Great video, too!!

Master I went to beauty School in barber school I still tore my legs up practicing.... Lol
A lot of that should be in a protected museum type display. No dust, oils in the air and such. Very cool collection...
Incredible collection of shave gear, the mug section is astounding. Awesome video, thanks Matt.
Visiting you and your store/collection is on my bucket list. Thank you for posting this video. Merry Christmas, Matt, and
to everyone!
Cool unboxing and history lesson.
Wow that's awesome collection, thanks for sharing this video, have a wonderful day eh

Awesome to see all the gear and the stories behind some of them.
Thanks for sharing! I love that mug with the low brass instrument on it (17:45).
One of the most interesting videos I've seen in a long time. Really outstanding. I could be wrong about this, but the mug with the medal, I think that is a Civil War Medal of Honor.
Was always puzzled what a barbers notch was for on a straight razor. Now I finally know!
Good stuff guys! Matt will take care of it!
Great Video Matt, and that razor is nice and heavy. We need to find a great spot in the lobby to hang it. Merry Christmas, and here's to a great 25!
The mug with the Italian flag with the cross in the middle corresponds to the Kingdom of Italy, prior to the proclamation of the republic in 1946.
Seeing how you sharpen and use a Rolls Razor would be interesting. I've had one for 40 years but never used it. What a collection you now own!
I always love those classic shaving mugs, They always scream classic shaving! I love having soaps like Williams or vdh and placing them in a mug!
I need to make a road trip to RE.
It’s worth it, I promise
It’s a great place to visit. I visited, from Southern California for the first time back in September. I’m definitely planning on visiting again next time I am working out of our Chandler yard.
Wow, what a great collection. That straight razor is such a great display piece.
You are the best Matt, love all your videos and products

The mug you stated had Grand Army of the Republic had the Medal of Honor on it. May need some further research.
A truly amazing collection and shaving history. Certainly spurs on the imagination.
Well done to both of you.
Cheers, John
This kind of giant display model of a STRAIGHT (CUT-THROAT) RAZOR is exactly one of those things I've always dreamed of having.
Thanks for the video love watching shaving history
Matt, John, thank you.

Tidbit of unrelated knowledge: there was a Royal Navy captain in ww2 named “Manley Power”! Don’t know if he had flowers on his shaving mug. 🙂
That is awesome! I knew a family named Manley in Santa Monica, CA, back in the 1980's. I wonder if they are related?
Any free mason ???
Yes
Rolls rolls rolls
Shave with the rolls razor
Wow
