What a lovely song; not only does it express the gentle relationship between san and ashitaka, it also shows the relationship between man and nature. :D
"I caught her human parents defiling my forest. They threw their baby at my feet as they ran away. Instead of eating her, I raised her as my own. Now my poor, ugly...beautiful daughter is neither human nor wolf. How could you help her?!"

@@kiranav3079 Neither of them. He understand that humanity cannot live the way San is. But he understand that nature is far to important to live and must be respected. San and Eboshi are both wrong and right. They both goes extreme and they both show a lot of humanity too. They both possess that duality between good and evil (don't forget that San has killed innocent people too). Ashitaka place himself between them because they both represent an ideal and they must survive, even if it mean that he will die because of them (and he has fallen for San, that doesn't help).
To me the saddest part of the movie will always be right as the God is beheaded and everything begins to die you see the Kodama spirits falling and dying and hear a sudden cry of pain. It gets me every time with such emotion and I'm reminded of Moro saying she can hear the forest dying but you cannot hear them. It makes me wonder how loudly the trees must be screaming for you to finally hear them. It makes you think is it really too late at this part in the movie...
OMG Same. And I don't like that so many of the animals/gods especiallythe forest god had to die before the humen were able to life in peace with the nature. I really hope that the apes survived and that San's wolf brothers grow as big as Moro was. But atleast you can see that not the entire forest died. When the forest spirit finally stood up with his head on again you can see the rest of the forest still intact.
My older sister was trying to calm down her baby and she's not really a singer so she was humming the chorus of this song. And I looked over at her and said as a joke "that's kind of a depressing song to sing to a baby don't you think?" And my older sister looks at me and says "you know that song?" I reply "Well, yeah you showed me the movie when I was a kid, I was obsessed with that song for months." And she goes" No I mean, that's a real song, song. I thought it was just a tune that was suck in my head. I didn't know it was from something. Whats it from?" Which led into a whole thing. I was a good time lol
This is my favorite version of this song, and one that's very hard to find these days: the quiet synth in the background, the guitar strum in the middle... UA-cam seems bent on only showing the orchestral covers of Ghibli songs, which is all fine and good, but I just want to hear the songs as they appear in the movies. I want the synth, dammit!

Beautiful just beautiful in English and Japanese. I was glad enough to be shown this master piece when I was younger, now I'm able to listen to this and watch the anime/animation again forever.
It does. In the dub version we do indeed hear Lazard hum this song during the scene. Bizarrely, however, the American OST does not have the extended version. Why that happened I can't say.
Oh my god I freaking love this song!!! I finished this movie a few days ago and I can't stop singing Nobody knows your Heart AND can't stop telling everyone that they should watch this movie AND obsess how beautiful it is (I sometimes claim it's so symmetrical, but that's just my Death the Kidd side talking)

This English version is sooo beautiful! But it's worth mentioning that in the Japanese version, they have a male singer with a female voice singing it instead, unlike the English version. It's because the lyrics represent both San and Ashitaka's perspectives. You can totally tell because they use two different words for "you" in the song, just like they do in the movie.
It's usually really difficult to sing a Japanese song in English, because they usually sound awkward, but this is unbelievably perfect!
Amen to that
I thought the Japanese version is a totally different meaning to this one
