I love the part of Pikmin 2 where I didn’t have enough purple pikmin to lift the doomsday apparatus so olimar simply cracked his knuckles and lifted it back to the ship himself while flexing his huge biceps. Best gaming moment of all time
@@SuperPlacido1 The denominator (the bottom number of the fraction) should be the amount of Pikmin required to carry the object, not the amount of Pikmin curranty carrying the object. They fixed it in Pikmin 3, where the denominator is how many Pikmin are needed.
The Piklopedia was literally the best part of the game. I spent hours reading ON PURPOSE because the entries were so fun, and I loved tossing pik-pik carrots to the Bulborbs and various enemies. I know most of them just want to voraciously consume all your Pikmin without discrimination but they're SO DARN CUTE.
@@cayleece7890 I used to spend a good while just throwing little carrots at the Hairy Bulborbs and watching their fluff fly off. Sorry devs, even if the creature DOES want to consume all my little friends, you CANNOT give something a fuzzy little coat and a little squeaky "Arf!" and not expect me to love it. I am forever bitter that you could only have Bulbmin inside the dungeons. I want to parade those little puppy monsters around in the overworld!
@@rouge939 probably they really didn't like reading, and perhaps it was a big deal for them to voluntarily do hours of reading on their own accord, but the Piklopedia was so fun that they chose to anyway.
@@rouge939 Hah! I see what you mean, but I meant it more as a contrast to - how should I say it? - reading by happenstance/reflex or reading because "you have to." As a child, reading was two things: something you have to do for school and something you have to do to participate in society (menus, labels, signs, etc.) Pikmin 2 was one of the first games where I wasn't just reading to get info for a tutorial or getting character dialogue fed to me by text. Pikmin 2 was one of the first games where I went out of my way to read things that were unnecessary to gameplay just because it was fun! School sucked a lot of the fun out of reading and writing, but I found myself doing both a ton now, for fun, because other activities made it fun to read and write as a hobby instead of just something one has to do for other reasons. A lot of games with journals don't necessarily have anything of value to add to the game in the text. You just mash a button to get through them to get the quest marker or upgrade. But the Piklopedia was different. Added nothing necessary but it enhanced the game so much just by being fun, well-written, and short. Little optional snippets that get right into some interesting world building about how these tiny aliens see our world.

In Pikmen 1, your time limit is your life support. In Pikmen 3, your time limit is your stomach. and in Pikmen Bloom, your time limit is the slow encroaching march of time as it draws you ever closer to your death.
Pikmin 2 is personally my favourite. I love the difficulty and pressure of Pikmin 1 and love the gameplay mechanics of Pikmin 3. Pikmin 2 has such a big vatriety if enemies and I love the piklopedia. The bosses especially are peak. You either love or hate the cave system and treasure collecting focus.

@@FrahdChikun I’m sorry if you think of it that way. But I’m suggesting things that are extensions to videos that make sense and besides everyone puts their own suggestions in their own comments.
I get the feeling that the developers wanted to put more emphasis on exploration than time management. They could have definitely applied more pressure on the player, but every game design choice points to encouraging the player to take their time and take in the atmosphere
Yeah and even some of the dialogue too. The ship tells you to take your time, and Olimar also has dialogue talking about how he just wants to slow down and take a moment to relax. And with the caves the gameplay seems more focused on _resource management_ instead of time management... since you can't replenish your Pikmin and have a limited amount of them to get through everything.
@atlas1924 except that time limit is useless when you get unlimited days, and the only time you really care about what day it is, is when you're trying to do it in a specific number of days, which is intrinsically motivated and not done by the game itself which would actually force players to plan out. The game never tells you to speed up other than the emails and resources are very much unlimited given the unlimited days feature. I think you're speaking more about how you play the game rather than what the game is actually promoting the player to do, as the ship tells you to take your time and the emails don't do much to motivate either
@@jdudbdjxb7687 you do realize you don't need a time limit to be an rts right? Pikmin 2 has a different kind of limiting factor that isn't time, it's the amount of troops you get. It poses a new dynamic threat that you need to plan around your day. Also unlimited days doesn't really mean much since 30 days is usually way to many in the first place. I can usually have it beat in 14 days and most people can once they get a hold of the game Unlimited days doesn't change anything if you never reached the limit in the first place. Having a 30 day limit never affected gameplay for people too much. Plus Pikmin 3 basically has infinite amount of days in comparison too and that is his favorite one currently Having a set day limit never affected gameplay almost at all Also Pikmin 2 literally just naturally builds upon Pikmin 1s story. Most of the ship parts are basically useless like the pilots seat but olimar needs them anyway for some reason Pikmin 2 has you collecting Alot of worthless stuff in retrospect as well just like Pikmin 1 Like seriously why does he need his libra or Sagittarius? Why does he need the Geiger counter for a trip home? Why does he need like half the ship parts?
Dungeons swap the management of time for management of RESOURCES. I think pikmin 4 evened it out with dungeons slowing down time rather than stopping but pikmin 2 dungeons were a TAD better
that kinda applies to most old games actually, since there is so many of them developers would rather make new games. not to mention remaking the old games takes equally as long
17:24 the caves that suddenly go to the “garden” theme are usually situated in high places. Snagret hole, for example, starts atop a bird house, a decent way up a tree stump, so going below that would lead you outdoors. Most of the time the layout actually *does* make sense
@@theproboscisarchive6812 dream den sub-level one is the surface layer of dream den, of course. It sort of makes sense to be above ground for the first layer. The only thing that’s weird is that there’s no autumn variant of the garden theme, which sort of clashes with the surface environment.
to be fair, having time pass while in dungeons could easily piss people off. Imagine exploring the areas, getting to the boss, and then you get kicked out because "welp the sun set lmao" or having every day come to an end immediately after you're done with the dungeon. Even if it breaks suspension, I felt it was necessary.

It's the entry for those who want to play a Pikmin game but aren't huge fans of the RTS genre. I understand why core fans hate it, but idk I thought it was fun.
One of my most fond memories is watching Chuggaconroy’s let’s play of Pikmin 2. I have such fond feelings for this game for the cozy feeling of watching Emile play it. The Piklopedia theme is burned into my mind as nostalgia
Same. I genuinely have a soft spot for Pikmin 2 because of that let's play. I've even lost count on the amount of times I've re-watched it. The soundtrack is one of a kind, too.
‘Ok, so we’re halfway through the dungeon, and the thing I’m worried about hasn’t shown up yet. We should be good....’ *fade to black* *long, high pitched whistle* *thud* *roar* ‘I JUST HAAAD TO SAY IT!! I JUST HAAAD TO OPEN MY MOUTH!!’
If I had a nickel for every trilogy where Schaffrillas described the second entry as “The Weakest One” instead of Worst, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
I actually love the Doomsday Apparatus if only for the "holy shit" factor when you first see the 1000 weight. It's also completely optional and in the postgame area. If you're like me, you'll have more than 40 purps by the time you reach it, so I never found the grind to 100 too tedious. You can run through the caves super quickly too; just ignore everything and head straight for the exit of each floor.
It isn't optional though. To beat the game you have to get all treasures, including the Doomsday Apparatus That being said, I love the Doomsday Apparatus regardless. The grinding is annoying though. It's like the game was designed around the assumption that you'd go to the Wistful Wild before finishing the other areas *and* that you won't complete caves on the first pass through
Pikmin 2 offers a unique that the others don't. I love having a chill time collecting things at my own pace, taking in the world without as much stress as the others. They're fantastic RTS games, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Now if this was a video on if Hey Pikmin or Pikmin Bloom is the weakest one, it would be more valid. I'm sorry, but I must disagree with you on this.
Hey Pikmin! And Bloom are spin-offs. Of the mainline games, he's arguing 2 is the weakest, and while it's cool that there's no limit to your days, it ultimately feels pointless by virtue of having no required content or meaningful objectives. It's relaxing but has no strategy.
Nothing compares to Chuggaaconroys reaction to jinxing himself with the water wraith for the first time. I genuinely laughed for hours after seeing it for the first time when I was younger.
It's crazy how many of the issues with the story could have been fixed by just letting Olimar return to his normal life for a few months between games instead of springing the debt on him immediately
@@drachenzahne9262 The worst part is, Olimar STILL doesn't get to see his family again even in Pikmin 3. Because the company is in debt AGAIN and Olimar had to go back to get treasure and ends up getting captured by the Plasm Wraith. Even in the side stories in Deluxe that continue after the events of the main story, Olimar has several lines of dialogue/notes talking about wanting to get the job done as quickly as possible to get back to his family. This man just never gets a break! :(
honestly it is not as jarring when you remember that most of the stuff he needs in the first game is useless for his survival which he mentions himself in game. But yeah a time skip or a scene where he has to leave his family before setting off would make it feel a bit less like a joke.
A minor thing I love about the series is that in each new game the Pikmin are shown to have advanced In the first game they’re at or near the bottom of the food chain but by the second game they’ve learned from Olimar and worked there way, up, even managing to survive long enough to develop new offshoots, and by the third one they’re practically the dominant species Also the song they sing about how much they love Olimar and wish he didn’t have to leave breaks my heart
They honestly regress from 2 to 3. In 2 all the three main species are more or less doing okay with small but active populations, but in 3 you have to rescue all the Onions (Reds and Pinks have theirs stuck, Yellows are trapped underground, Rocks are captured and Blues have been dormant for so long there's a plant growing on their Onion)
@@arandomthingintheabyss2062 that would actually be pretty nice. plus it may be hinting at it by seeing the garlion's which are more remenicent to the pikmin 3 design
I think the reason Submerged Castle is the one dungeon I can always remember is due to the Water Wraith. To this day whenever I find myself back in that specific dungeon I can't help but remember Chuggaaconroy screeching when the it first showed up right as he was about to finish a floor
I personally love Pikmin 2 the most. It’s easily my favorite of the bunch. I love the feeling of creeping down through caverns brimming with beasts I could only imagine, my loyal Pikmin terrified but valiantly following me. I love the theme of capitalism ruining the good in the little things and the big things, such as taking Olimar’s son’s present or literally rifling through the world attempting to find anything of value. I do agree that the dungeons do get a bit same-y visually, but I enjoy analyzing a floor and seeing the best way to go about it. And you’re right, maybe on one randomized playthrough a treasure is in the water! It incentives players to be ready for any hazard at any time and not to go with just purples. I love the hazards as well, it caused many shrieks and laughs in subsequent playthroughs with friends or partners. I think it has its problems but is a very good game that is great for veterans and new or intexperienced or just plain bad at games individuals.
I honestly found that going through the Submerged Castle was the quickest way to get purples, as it's one of the few dungeons in the game that are guaranteed to have purple candipops. Also not sure if you know this, but you don't need to have your pikmin following you for you to take them down with you; pikmin will never get left behind in a dungeon, even if they're on fire or whatever. It's happened a few times where I've saved dozens of pikmin dying from hazards just by going down to the next floor lol
I’d agree with this if the holes weren’t blocked by rocks. Means you have to maneuver through the floors with your Pikmin who aren’t immune to the hazards present instead of rushing through with just your captains.
@@hisroyalhighnessking Also importantly, the floors include Queen Candypop Buds so you never take a Net Loss of Pikmin, just grabbing a couple, bolt for the hole every floor until the Candypop Bud one, up the number with the Queen Buds and turn the new ones into Purples immediately.
I… I actually never knew that Pikmin 2 didn’t have a time limit. I always did everything with a sense of urgency, because I thought that was the case. I actually really like the Dungeons in Pikmin 2, not only because it’s fun to set up for them, explore, and complete them, but also because I thought it was important to go into specific dungeons at specific times, so you can properly time exiting out of said dungeons with your venturing forth on the overworld map to collect the remaining treasure in the day. Plus, with the idea that days had a time limit, I found the dungeons relaxing in a way, since they were a break from all the fast planning in the overworld. My minds been blown man… PS: The Water Wraith was the funniest thing to me as a kid, not because of the being itself, oh god no, it’s terrifying! More so the famous Chuggaconroy clip.
Pikmin 2 is my favorite but I still agree with majority of your video. I just like combat in Pikmin games a lot, so the challenge and caves are fun for me (minus the falling traps). Im also too impatient to grind out berries so I never use the bitter or spicy spray to make combat easier
I’ve always thought the dungeons were really unique and interesting in my opinion. Exploring a semi-linear (mostly) underground themed areas in multiple levels leading to a boss with some nirvana floors truly made it interesting every time. I hope they return in Pikmin 4 in some capacity. Also the dungeons were also graphically impressive for 2004 just like the overworld. Half-Life 2 came out the same year and I’d argue Pikmin 2 looked just as good in some ways.
I remember Pikmin 1 being too stressful. Pikmin 3 is too easy and too short. Pikmin 2 felt perfect. I personally loved crawling through all the caves. They were these oppressive puzzles and were just so atmospheric. Not to mention all the crazy bossfights. NOT TO MENTION THE PIKLOPEDIA!!
100% agree hated the 30 day time limit in pikmin 1, was way too stressful and didn't allow me to enjoy the game, the atmosphere, and the vibes pikmin 3 was ridiculously short, especially for its' price

@@inmanis2924 It really wasn’t and at least it was fun, with great character, great Pikmin that didn’t break the game and some of the greatest bosses in the series
I actually like Pikmin 2, it was fun to travel in dungeons, the enemies are grotesque, strange, and powerful. I liked the White and Purple Pikmin, and of course collecting the 'treasure' was fun
I really love the Piklopedia. I enjoy things that dive into a setting's lore, especially its ecology, and the Piklopedia does a great job at making the info flow naturally, like they're actually notes being written by our intrepid explorers.
Pikmin is so underrated and overlooked, it's a shame because they're so fun to play. PIKMIN 4 announcement was the best thing Nintendo has done in a while.
On your comments about Pikmin 2's removal of the time limit; I get that removing the time limit takes away the sense of urgency that Pikmin 1 had, but after playing all the games for so many years, the time limit has kind of become less and less of an issue to the point where it barely ever effects the way I play the games. I usually complete Pikmin 1 in around 9-10 ingame days. Pikmin 2 usually takes 14-17 days to 100% and the same goes for Pikmin 3. To veteran players of the Pikmin series, time limits don't matter and only serve to give newer players a reason to avoid the game. By giving Pikmin 2 an infinite time limit, veterans of the series are barely effected at all and newer players are encouraged to explore and work at their own pace. This lack of time management "difficulty" is also overwhelmingly made up for by Pikmin 2 being the hardest game in the series. Ironically, you could technically say the time limit artificially inflates the difficulty of Pikmin 1 by establishing a time limit that most players never see the end of.
@@lordmew5 I do not agree with this Pikmin 1 made you able to lose the game and have to start all over again from day 1. Which is good for game life in theory, but ingame, it only makes not being efficient enough infuriating. So it probably turned down a lot of players that didn't win within 30 days, and then got it back to the store annoyed that they couldn't finish the game and maybe even thought that it was impossible
Playing Pikmin 1 as a young kid, I could never manage to find all of the parts and always got the bad ending, making me not want to play the game anymore because seeing Olimar die made my small brain feel very guilty and upset, to the point where my mom just sold the game. I played Pikmin 2 the most due to the lack of a time limit, and I struggled with Pikmin 3 on the Wii U but still managed to get through it (Louie stealing the Juice was a nightmare). Looking back now, I think Pikmin 2 is my favourite, with Pikmin 1 being a close second and Pikmin 3 being my least favourite (That doesn't mean it's bad, it's still amazing). Can't wait to see what Pikmin 4 will do.
The reason why the time limit is there is to give more replayability, beating the game in a lower amount of days is fun enough to encourage experimentation and find optimal ways to kill enemies, and get the optimal amount of each pikmin for each day, removing the time limit is like a new game in a fighting game franchise removing depth and complexity just to cater towards people who barely care about the genre
@@Frizou No shit, losing isn't supposed to be happy To quote: "That means time strategy games aren't for them!" This is a real-time strategy game first
I have to say, while you're entitled to your opinion about this game, I do find the contradiction about what makes an RTS kind of funny. You're upest they remove the agency and pressure to get all the treasures in a limited number of days, which removes a form of resource management. You claim that time management is a part of RTS games, which is true for some games. But then later on in the video, you actually complain about having limited opportunities to grow pikmin in the underground sections...which would be resource management...which is also an RTS game mechanic and fundamental. Is not the part of the undergrounds difficulty recognizing the dangers to avoid total loss of pikmin in the dungeons.
Cave haters in the Pikmin fandom go on and on about the timer but completely fail to acknowledge the different type of strategy that they add to the games People so obsessed with the time limit are funny because even without the time limit, those same dedicated players should be pushing themselves to play as fast and efficient as possible anyways and get a low day count
Honesty these kinds of people are just impatient and want to get it done ASAP. They don't want to spend time thinking about how to tackle a floor; they just want it done.
I don’t like it when he says that “real time strategy games just aren’t for them “ even though Pikmin 2 relies on strategy does that mean he hates Pikmin 4
Glad to hear someone else spent hours poring over the Piklopedia entries too, the atmosphere with the music and reading Olimar's charming writing is a core memory for me. I used to have the players guide for this game and held onto it as a comfort item for a while, the game made me feel safe
Im sorry, did you say pikmin 1's story is better because of olimar's journal? did you just.....completely forget about his journal and the emails in 2?
I know this definitely doesn't fix the problem, but the bulblax kingdom is definitely the best dungeon to farm purples, as long as you take in about 30 or less purples, then there will be about 3-4 candypop flowers per dungeon, and the dungeon is only 7 floors long, and the dungeon is right next to where the ship/onions land, AND the dungeon doesn't have any traps, so definitely the best dungeon for farming purples in my opinion (also the bulblax kingdom has a great ost)
@@archerbias6597 It’s definitely the complex, mostly because of the queen candypop buds that let you raise other Pikmin types at the same time if you so choose.
Idk what he’s talking about tbh. It was a long-ass time ago back when Pikmin2 first released, but I 100%’d it and I don’t remember grinding anything. I think I only ever brought 5-10 purples with me into any dungeon, so maybe more candy pop buds spawned for me?
Are you crazy? Bulblax Kingdom is about the part of the game where it starts throwing more shit at you, there's lots of bomb traps there! Sure it's not Subterranean Complex but that one's still more consistent.
I like to think of game development as an equivalent to normal evolution: At first, the core skelleton exists and if it survives, the next stage gets activated: explosion of ideas. After that, the balance begins to kick in again after all these ideas undergo natural selection by players and reviewers.
That's not really all that true. There are plenty of cases where the original is a solid base, but the sequel expands on it massively and really refines everything while creating new things. Kingdom Hearts 2 is such an example. There are also games (albeit much rarer) that nail everything on the first go, like Mario 64.
@@Rasea611 Yep KH2, Majoras Mask from OoT, Sunshine from 64, Thousand Year Door from Paper Mario, Super Metroid from Metroid. Heck, Pokemon Black/White from Platinum From Emerald from Gold/Silver from Red/Blue. Yesir, that was one mighty fine streak of complete improvement from sequel to sequel, maybe even the greatest. Point is, in a world full of Pikmin 3s and Pikmin 1s and Hey! Pikmins, more games should choose to be Pikmin 2.
@@Rasea611 yeah, the analogy doesnt fit all games. Maybe its just fitting for pikmin? Sometimes, devs just focus one making the game as it was before or dont realize some drawbacks of the current game. At least for me with pikmin, its awesome to see all these ideas and changes, even If some turn out to be a mistake afterwards.
Schaff saying Pikimin 3 is on his top 10 favorite games reminded me how in the Kingdom Hearts video, he said KH2 is probably in his top 20 favorite games, and ever since then, that got me thinking about how much I'd want to see him making a video involving ranking his favorite games. He doesn't make that many video game analysis, but I always enjoy when he does stuff like it.
Tbh after replaying all of the games, pikmin 1 was the only one I felt an urgency to collect everything. Pikmin 2 is very enjoyable to replay, there is a lot more freedom. lol blew my mind as a kid. I was never bothered too much about there being with an urgency. It was the different caves, enemies and bosses that got me hooked, and yeah submerged castle was the best part of the game. The 3rd game was too easy though, it has the weakest story mode. Pikmin 3 is great for better ai, mission, and bingo battles. Still all fantastic games.
I hardly disagree I think pikmin 2 is the strongest I love how chill it is with its no time limit and it’s boss fights are really fun and the dungeons are also good and hate me for this I actually like collecting treasures and with how long the dungeons take it would of been basically impossible to complete a dungeon if the time passed in dungeons any of the mainline games aren’t the weakest if your gonna say one game is the weakest it has to be the spin-off’s
I think he's saying Pikmin 2 is the weakest of the four mainline games. All four of them are really good games, but one of them has to be the weakest of the bunch.
As someone with the exact OPPOSITE opinion, with Pikmin 2 being the strongest game to me and the other two being weaker, I’m really looking forward to seeing why you think that! I’m guessing you don’t have the massive anxiety I have that made the time limit so stressful that it completely killed the game for me and I never finished the first game and experienced most of it through a strategy guide instead? 😅 - EDIT: I super, super agree with your feelings about the dungeon system, though, and the fact that’s how you get the white and purple Pikmin.
What significantly marred my repeat playthroughs of Pikmin 2 was that I realized so many enemies/bosses could be defeated easily, just by me either punching them out with captains or employing hit-and-run attacks with much smaller groups of Pikmin. This allowed me to kill legions of dangerous critters with almost zero injuries/casualties, and the only drawback was how much longer it took to clean out enemies that way. Due to this, the only reason for me not to use such tactics was if I had the pressure of a time limit, such as in Challenge Mode or the Submerged Castle (plus when I confronted the Man-at-Legs and Titan Dweevil, against which those tactics don’t work well). While the lack of a time limit understandably made the game much more fun for you, it pretty much broke the game for me, upon realizing how easily I could exploit it to “cheese” enemies/bosses without limits.
So I'm one of the dudes who has Pikmin 2 as his favorite, so I'll go ahead and throw in my two cents. I'd say that most of the points you made in this video are spot on. Story is undoubtedly weaker than Pikmin 1, which has one of the strongest stories of any Nintendo game period(I *love* Olimar's journal entries and could write an entire essay on how they make Pikmin 1 as great as it is). The Piklopedia is incredible and is quite possibly the best part of the entire series, doing a lot of heavy lifting in making the world feel lived in. Ultra Bitter Spray, Doomsday Apparatus, and Purple Pikmin are all indeed complete and utter indefensible bullshit. The one point where our opinion really diverges is with dungeons. While I agree the level design isn't much to write home about, the *enemy* design is some of the best I've seen in any game, and the sheer variety of enemy designs and attack patterns dwarfs every other Pikmin game. Wandering enemies like the Gatling Groinks and Spotted Bulbears are utterly terrifying, especially if they manage to get the drop on you. The Armor Cannon Beetle Larvae can utterly decimate your party if you're not careful and don't maneuver well. Even mostly harmless enemies like the radio bug (forget it's name) or the mitites can distract your army, leading them into traps and potentially devastate your army. The sheer variety of methods the game manages to come up with to try and screw you over provides a very different challenge from the other two games, and helps make up for the removal of time pressure imo. This last bit is gonna be a bit of a hot take, but I also... kinda like the bullshit instakill traps. Ok, maybe not the rockfalls, but stuff like falling bombs or getting ambushed by hidden enemies really keep you on your toes and helps sell the environment as hostile to your presence. If the game is going to give you infinite resources and infinite time to complete it, I feel like some quantity of bullshit is justified. Sure, maybe you lose 50 Pikmin due to an explosion trap, but you still have 50 more to try to complete the dungeon with and you'll have more waiting for you when you get out. It can also create some tense moments where your army gets decimated and you're just rushing to find the next geyser so that you can escape with your treasure and not lose all the progress you've made. It's really unlike anything else in the series, and I'm kinda for it. Lastly, while Pikmin 3 inarguably has the strongest boss fights in the series, the Pikmin 2 bosses are a significant step up from Pikmin 1's, and has plenty of memorable boss encounters of its own. You've already discussed the Water Wraith at length, but one of my personal favorites is the Man at Legs. Not only is the sheer audacity of putting a freaking LASER SHOOTING SPIDER into the game just wonderful, but having to run to cover whenever the laser comes out to avoid getting gunned down and using the terrain to your advantage is something special. I guess it's not terribly surprising why we have different views on Pikmin 2. I like dungeons, dungeons are ~80% of Pikmin 2's gameplay, ergo I like Pikmin 2. You don't like dungeons, dungeons are ~80% of Pikmin 2's gameplay, ergo you like Pikmin 2 less.
The "radio bug"'s name is the Antenna Beetle because I know Pikmin 2 way too well. Also I'd say Pikmin 2 has the strongest boss fights in the series, so it is arguable. (If someone wants me to elaborate on why I think this, I will)
@@Gulliblepikmin Sure, I'll bite. As said before, Pikmin 2's bosses are a significant step up from Pikmin 1's bosses, but most of them still only have 1 or two attack patterns keeping them fairly simple, to the point where some of them feel more like normal enemies with a cool theme rather than a proper boss (Hello Burrowing Snagret number 27). Pikmin 3's bosses, while far fewer in number, show a wide variety of attacks and have proper phases, keeping the fights interesting throughout the entire encounter. Because of this, I maintain that Pikmin 3 has the strongest boss fights in the series.
@@webbowser8834 Good points, though I prefer Pikmin 2's bosses due to how they're actual threats compared to 3's bosses, don't have those stupid damage caps, and don't tend to overstay their welcome in most cases. (Looking at you, shaggy long legs and pileated snagret.) Though in the end, like Pikmin 2 itself, it really just comes down to personal preference.
@@Gulliblepikmin Are there actual damage caps with the pikmin 3 bosses? Like, are they actually limited in the number of Pikmin they can kill in a single attack? That's kinda lame, I agree. Fair point on the difficulty. Aside from the final boss, most of the bosses were pretty easy to beat without taking heavy losses.
I definitely agree with most of your grievances, so I'll just gush about the Piklopedia. As someone who loves collecting and completing things in games, I love the Piklopedia entries, including the sales pitches, but Louie's Notes are definitely the best parts, and probably my favorite part of the whole game. Reading them always makes me hungry and get in the mood to cook or grill something. and anything that makes me want to eat food that doesn't exist is always a winner in my book. I think my favorite entries are the ones that are inedible, such as the Caustic Dweevil ("Effects of consumption include uncontrollable arm flailing and enthusiastic dishwashing") or the Glowstems ("Known effects include uncontrollable episodes of impromptu break dancing"). Just the thought of Louie trying to eat a fucking LED light is hilarious.
pikmin 2's lack of a timelimit was my favoirite thing. sometimes, you just want to relax and stock up on berry juice while increasing your pikmin numbers. in other pikmin games, a couple unproductive days can destroy you, but in 2, you can have a nice, calming time. it can be a podcast game. easily the best in the series. and yes, bulbmin are easily the best pikmin type
Pikmin 2 is my favorite because it offers the most freedom. You have unlimited time to explore this planet and it's areas even after you've collected every treasure, and that's exactly what I did. I spent so much time, well over 100 in game days in this game, building up Pikmin and Sprays, encountering th Ujidani and even the Beady Long Legs in the overworld. The downside of this is at a certain point the only end-of-day message you get is your wife telling you she loves you and begging you to come home and it makes me sad and wish there was an option to just, go home and end the game for real.
Yeah, the valid criticisms of the game. I used to always be scared of the Water Wraith in Pikmin 2 because of how powerful it was but when I 100% the game, he wasn't as deadly as I thought. The submerged castle's horror vibe could work as a whole area in Pikmin. Maybe a night time mode in Pikmin 4 that plays into the fears from the submerged castle could be cool. Hope you do a video on Pikmin 3 soon.
I'm in this weird superposition of nodding along to every single one of your points and applauding how thorough your criticisms are... and this game still being my absolute favorite because all of those points do not in any way detract from my enjoyment. So, there's that.
This was exactly my experience lol. "This story is just not very compelling or satisfying" "idk, i like it, it's funny and weird! xd" - "It's a broken game in every aspect" "it's MY broken game in every aspect!" And I'm weird, but I like the uncanny, dead atmospheres of the dungeons and the juxtaposition with the comforting overworlds, even if they're not eye candy. All in all, never have I agreed so much with a video I disagree with.
That's the lovely thing about living with a shared set of facts. People can look at the same exact thing, and come to different conclusions about them. Everything Schaff said in this vid was true (except for the slight inaccuracy concerning the early game candypop buds, they despawn based on the number of purple/white pikmin you have, not based on whether or not you've used them, but that changes very little), so his opinion makes sense even if you or I don't necessarily agree with it. This is the essence of any well made argument.
I agree with him that Pikmin 2 is also probably my least favourite in the trilogy, but honestly all 3 games are so good that saying "Pikmin 2 is the worst main series game" feels very misleading about it's actual quality lol
The complaints about purple spray and purple pikmin feel like a very disingenuous cope against the fact the game has such high difficulty... Both are easy-come easy-go resources with large time investments behind them. In the amount of time you spend stocking up on spray you can just clear the dungeon/encounter without bothering collecting spray at all, using just your wits and skill. It's more fun, more time-efficient, and is only really a flaw unless you're bad and need to resort to grinding. Same goes for purple pikmin. I agree that their stunlock capability is a bit overtuned against regular mook enemies, they're also slow af making them more fragile than the rest of your party. And each one lost is another large time set-back. So bringing a whole fragile squad of them into a cave is high risk-reward situation, which can backfire and leave you feeling like an idiot. The devs were smart about how much time investment vs power potential the purple spray and purple pikmin offer. They're cheesy under the most ideal situations and if you take your sweet, sweet time, but they're anything but game-breaking.
And the game lets you take your sweet, sweet time. Because there is no time limit and thus no punishment. It’s actually surprisingly easy to farm ultra-bitter spay in the distant spring. You can get the overworks treasures in the area while also getting 6 doses of the stuff, it’s great!
@@builderbosc Collecting spray and treasure simultaneously is a good strat, but I wouldn't spend extra time just farming it... It's the same as over-leveling in an action RPG. Sure, there's "no punishment" but it's slow, boring and only there to help lesser-skilled players struggle through the game.
@@Ad-im1neExactly. Sure there isn't any in-game punishment or anything holding me back from grinding. However the set back from grinding Ultra Bitter Spray is the simple fact it takes so much real life time and it would probably drain my sanity.
I still really love Pikmin 2, but I'll agreed that it is the most flawed entry. The removal of urgency and the unfairness/dullness of the majority of the caves really causes the game to drag a bit. It does have a lot of things that you didn't mention that I think it excells at. The bosses in Pikmin 2 are my favorite in the series, even though many are trivialized by the addition of the purples. The designes, the attack patterns, and the fact that many are more intense versions of regular enemies always stood out to me, and made getting to the end of a new cave more enjoyable, not knowing what the boss would be like. Repeat playthroughs are hurt by the knowledges and lack of uncertainty though. Another thing that Pikmin 2 did that I love is the expansion of the music system. I love Pikmin's adaptive soundtrack, and Pikmin 2 took what Pikmin 1 did with it, and ran with it. The different variations for combat, being near an enemy, working, carrying treasure, and being near a spiderwort, on top of sunset versions of each, ON TOP of different time signatures for Olimar and Louie, make the music for this game absolutly stellar. I fully agree that it's the weakest one in the series, I just wanted to point out some things you didn't mention that I personally love about 2.
As someone who generally abhors time limits, I liked Pikmin 2 for it's lack thereof. Still, I do get the excitement and emersion that having them lends to a game. But I'm very much with you on many of the other frustrations. Also, the amount of time I spent collecting berries... absolutely insane.
For me personally, having to manage limited time is as vital to a Pikmin game’s difficulty as having to manage limited resources is to a Survival Horror game’s difficulty. If the first Resident Evil game made it easy to just chip away at enemies' health with the knife, while easily avoiding damage, plus there was a way to farm more ammo whenever I wanted, then it would remove so much of the legitimate challenge for me. In turn, I would be encouraged to play the game, in a way that makes it feel like more of a slow and dull slog. Pikmin 2 making it more cost-effective to just take out enemies with my captains' punches or a tinier fragment of my Pikmin squad, while also removing the urgency to get things done quickly, had a similar effect for me.
The time limits are barely consequential for the games, i can't remember the last time i was actually worried about them when playing, all they do is add unnecessary anxiety to the games for no reason. I liked being able to casually explore the world and actually enjoy it instead of stressing about a timer.
@@jasonreed7522 Time limits are what encourages you to multi task to collect more items on a day. If you are too stressed, just play better so that you can collect more resources on a day, and resetting is always an option. If even then, you are still feeling stressed, then go play another game, there's plenty other titles without time limits :/
I don't really care if it was "weak", it had the purple and white pikmin, and even years after my first time playing it i still have a fondness for those funky cave guys. shame they're only in challenge mode in 3 (and heavily nerfed)
I actually think that re-using the map layouts from the previous game was a good idea. Having previously used maps remade with different content and different environment made it incredibly interesting. I hope in Pikmin 4 they re-use some of the areas from the previous games but combine them with newly-designed areas to make the maps way larger. Also I think the purple spray is actually useful and should return in Pikmin 4 but in limited amounts so you’ll only use it on annoying enemies.
I agree. And its not like they're identical either, they switched it up like a big ol jigsaw puzzle... It was nearly unnoticeable but then you notice the small details. The moment I realized "hey this is that one area from Pikmin 1!" was really exciting, and its neat to see how the planet has changed (but in lore it doesn't make much sense, they should've had a longer time-gap between games).
What made Two Betrayals such an awesome level in Halo CE is the fact that it was the same basic layout as Assault but under a different context and route so it managed to be a totally separate experience despite changing practically nothing about the previous map.
Pikmin 2's my favorite in the series, but Submerged Castle is easily my pick for the best part of the game, even despite its infamy. Really makes me wish the rest of the caves had a time penalty like it because it's super satisfying getting through it completely Wraith-less.
And even if you don't make it in time, its a fun challenge trying to get the remaining treasures without your Pikmin getting squashed (there are ways to escape the wraith, like hiding in corners and behind the exit hole). Its scary but not so scary you stay up at night wondering whether or not a water wraith is going to come riding out from the closet, which makes it fun.
So, I think the purple grind gripe you mentioned was a little overblown. You dont have to engage with the enemies and none of the holes are blocked in the Subterranean Complex so you can literally skip all the floors by just zooming through with Olimar. I had maybe 15 White and Purple Pikmin and after an hour and a half, I had 200 each. Having to grind them out at all is stupid though, and I do agree that they should’ve just gotten their own onion.
I'm just wondering who the hell recommended repeating the Subterranean Complex when Emergence Cave, Frontier Cavern, Hole of Beasts, and Bulblax Kingdom are all MUCH better (and shorter) options for farming Purples!
@@BrendanJSmith The caves you presented as possible alternatives to the Subterranean Complex all have one or both of the following two problems: 1. Some or all of the candypop buds will not spawn if you have 20 or more Purple Pikmin (counting both your current active party and in the hull of your ship). You can't farm Purple Pikmin as effectively because the amount of candypop buds you will find is less than 3, which is the amount you will find in the Subterranean Complex. 2. The floors hosting these candypop buds are dangerous. You can't guarantee access to all of them without engaging in combat, dealing with the elemental hazards, or resetting until you get an easy layout. It's slower when you consider the fact that there is never anything of danger on the 8th floor of the Subterranean Complex.
Definitely can understand Pikmin 2 isn't for everyone, personally though it's my favorite game of all time. I feel like it's just brimming with personality: when it comes to the pikmin all starting to have *their* own personalities, Olimar/Louie/Ship having unique journals for the enemies/treasures, and the themes for a lot of the dungeons. You mentioned that this game has the least re-playability for you, which I found interesting with the mechanic of the RNG-based floor layouts. There's ups and downs imo to both methods, and it can definitely feel lazy or even bullshit sometimes with the RNG you'll get. But personally, I really like it. After playing all 3 games so many times, I appreciate in Pikmin 2 I can still find myself in new situations compared to the other 2 games where I know every single action I'm gonna take pretty much from the start, since nothing changes. Hell, it's why their speedruns are so optimized/consistent now. Either way though, I do again know there's down-sides too. The story I also can see bugging people, and the aesthetics of the caves, but I guess I'm just so content with the gameplay that it didn't bug me too much. When it comes to no time limit in caves, I definitely prefer it that way. When I'm on a tough floor with a tough layout, it gives me time to strategize a way through rather than just full-charging in and inevitably losing plenty of Pikmin on the way if I was timed, and strategy is what I love about the Pikmin games. I will definitely agree though that the lack of a day time limit to beat the game as well as the lack of balancing for purple pikmin/sprays can take away from the experience. I'm at the point now where every time I play, I do challenge playthroughs like deathless + no purples/sprays runs because otherwise it's extremely easy when it's not a first playthrough. I appreciate just seeing in-depth pikmin content to begin with though. It's such a underrated series and the announcement of Pikmin 4 makes me so excited. I also can tell just by some of the tricks I see in the gameplay footage in this video that you've definitely played the games tons of times lol
Pikmin 2 was one of the first video games that I ever played, and I cherish it fondly. It has such a wistful and nostalgic feeling is only shared by Twilight Princess for me. I cherish it deeply.
I guess a big thing it comes down to is: Do you like a time limit, or not? Personally? Not really. Which is why I'm glad it was removed after 1 (Let's be honest: If the player's halfway competent, 3 essentially doesn't have a time limit either), and hope it stays that way with 4. I agree as a consequence it makes the day/night cycle basically pointless, but I guess they still wanted to give the player some sense of time passing on this alien world expedition as opposed to just wrapping it up in a few in-universe days. Second, the treasures are just so much more interesting as collectibles to me compared with 1's ship parts and *especially* the fruit from 3 for the most part. The ship parts are alright and pretty unique, but the fruit in 3 gets boring after a while since they start to repeat the same handful of fruit alot as the game goes on. Meanwhile the treasures overall are so distinct and different from eachother, with such a wide variety, that it's always a joy finding a new one and seeing what it is. I desperately, *desperately* hope they make a return in 4. Finally, my most superficial critique: I kinda just think 1 looks like shit. I think it absolutely NAILS the atmosphere and feeling of an alien world the best out of the 3, but it just looks so drab and monotone compared to 2 (And of course 3), which are much more colorful, vibrant and detailed. To clarify, I love all of these games, but my personal order is 2, 3, 1. There are totally legit criticisms in this video tho like cheap death traps and the randomly-generated dungeons. I can see why someone who's more of a fan of 1 specifically would like 2 less, and like 3 more since it was kind of a return to 1 a little bit.
Pikmin 2: *objectively has the most content with the highest skill ceiling* Schaffrillas: "It's the weakest" I mean you're entitled to your own opinion but I fail to see how 2 isn't just a solid improvement to 1.
I feel it's just personal preference to whether people like 2 or not. It's gameplay varies so much from the others, it's more of a dungeon crawler hybrid. That said it's by far my personal favorite pikmin game.
I couldn’t disagree with more of this video. I love the dungeons in pikmin 2. I never had a problem with the traps; you literally just have to test areas and be cautious. If you’re running around with all your pikmin after knowing there could be traps then that’s your fault?? Also I very much loved not having a 30 day limit. Felt way more enjoyable to explore. It feels like you were just really trying to pad this out with things you didn’t like just to have more things not to like 🤷🏼♂️
2:49 If you don't consider mods of the game to be a completely destructive and sacrilegious way to play the game. There is a multiplayer mod for Pikmin 2 made by Pikhacker that you can take a look at. Just searching their name on UA-cam search should be enough to find the video.
Honestly, the rng really worked for me. You had to familiarize yourself with the layout and always assume that the treasure is in a different location, creating a new sense of strategy that one consistent layout doesn’t give. It forces you to improvise, use what you got
@@Jdudec367 Considering it is based on instakill traps and stupid broken enemies, forcing you to scour the floors alone with no Pikmin, as you cannot actively engage, prepare or stop the traps, ultimately padding the dungeons with nothing, it objectively must be considered to not be good game design, especially around difficulty. Because if you go through normally, and fight enemies in the ways they are weak to right away, you still will lose Pikmin because they shook them into a bottomless pit, or cramped you into corridors with no escape without warning or a boulder felll right into your pack while engaged.
the first battalion wars and first two pikmin games are my childhood and i love that people are starting to talk about them more and more now just as it was their childhood

One of my favorite things about Olimar is how honestly brave he is. He faces down death in three different games and gradually gets closer to it each game and just continues to be a good guy despite that. Especially after everything he went through in Pikmin 3. Louie is a piece of trash.
I really like you as a reviewer and even though I completely disagree I'm willing to hear you out since your videos are so well made. Edit: Great Video! I agree with a lot of it. However, I do think caves should make a return in Pikmin 4 just with more care put into them. They have the potential to be truly amazing.
Message to all new players who want to 100% this game: do not, please, just, do not, play it on your own pace and just pay the debt and save Louie or whatever, just, DO NOT COLLECT ALL THE TREASURE. NOR GET ALL THE PINK FLOWERS ON CHALLENGE MODE.
Olimar, in the first game, was quite a likeable character. He was a hard working family man, who was thrusted into a dangerous survival situation, lamenting that he might never see his wife & kids again. The log entries at the end of each day cemented this. If you had a bomb rock explosion which took out lots of Pikmin, he'd be sad about it. He took joy in getting back the little things to his ship and showing some scientific curiosity about the alien world. He was just really likeable and sympathetic, yet we didn't really get more of this in Pikmin 2. There's no tension in paying off the debt or anything to do with the story.
I have heard so much praise for the Pikmin series and I've been contemplating about playing it for myself. Your love and enthusiasm for the series was the deciding factor and I am currently booting up a Pikmin 1 ro- er... "disc" to start my journey! Edit (10/21): Finished it a few days ago. It’s an absolute masterpiece. So glad I was able to experience it for myself (and on the day Persona 5 Royal comes out on all platforms too!)
You won’t be disappointed. No franchise like Pikmin. I agree with Schaff that two is the weakest and it’s still a pretty fun time if you can overlook the flaws.
I love pikmin 2 for how arcadey the dungeons feel, it's less focused on puzzles, and more focused on throwing crazy amounts of enemies at you, similar to doom and or luigi's mansion. Just crazy enemy gauntlets, it's super satisfying
It's so weird to me that when Olimar and the President return to rescue Louie after paying off the debt, they still only take the Hocotate Ship: a two-seater rocket. Wouldn't it make more sense if the Dolphin was returned to them after resolving their debt and Olimar flew it to PNF-404 while the president rode in the Hocotate Ship??
I think what I like most about the Pikmin trilogy is how diverse the opinions on the games are. Those not in the community, you can basically find someone who ranks all three of them in any given order. Someone who thinks 2 is the best and 1 is the worst, or 3 is the best and 2 is the worst. I think that goes to show how good the trilogy is, that each game can have something new and fresh about it while still keeping the core gameplay the same, to the point where fans of all three can favor any of them for legitimate reasons. ALSO, kinda irrelevant but, they DO explain why time in the caves doesn't pass...in an unused cutscene. No clue why they cut it, like you said, it makes no sense without context (and honestly their explanation is pretty weak anyway).
@@silverfang8717 "A geomagnetic radiation field underground that warps the space-time continuum". In the manual, it just says "powerful magnetic field". Again, not very clear or logical, but I suppose it IS an explanation.
Personally, I love Pikmin 2 the most out of all the games because it focuses the most on the aspects that I love most about Pikmin: Being a tiny man exploring a massive hostile world. I love the feeling that an apex predator could show up at any second and kill you, the sense that the caves could go down and down to the bottom of the earth, the feeling that everything is so much bigger and powerful than you. The real-time strategy aspect of the game is secundary to the survival-horror-for-all-the-family aspect of Pikmin for me personally. Seriously the fricking snakebirds terrified me as a kid and as an adult, they can show up anywhere. I do agree that the cave system could have been done better though, and that having no time limit in them is a big flaw. Having something like the water wraith in all dungeons, just a dangerous creature that appears if you spend too long in a floor, could really have improved that. Edit: I genuinely had no idea that the layouts of the caves where random, what. Is that actually real?
They're semi-procedural. Most floors have several layouts they can spawn from a few arrangements of terrain, and then a list of locations where different things like Enemies, Treasures, and Eggs/Candypop Buds can be placed on them. I personally like it because it varies things up very slightly so I know what I'm in for overall but should still scout for the specifics. I think the big issue is that the Caves are kind of in a "damned if you do/don't" situation. The Saving on every floor means they can make some dungeons longer, but also flies in the face of what would make longer dungeons challenging: Resource Management with your limited Pikmin squad. If you take a particularly hefty loss, you don't really need to abandon the run, at most just redo the floor. It kind of takes away a bit of the time/management aspect of Pikmin without an effective substitute unless you enjoy the combat a lot (which I do but also know that's by no means universal). I like Pikmin 2 but I think it fair to say that it appeals to a very different crowd than the first game, with myself going back and forth on which better accomplishes what they set out to respectively achieve.
I'm actually playing pikmin 2 right now, and honestly, my favorite part is the piklopedia! I love how in-depth the descriptions are for all enemies you encounter, as well as the stories olimar shares on the treasure description. Its honestly so lovely.
It’s funny how both Olimar and Luigi both got massively fleshed out during the GameCube era by just giving their thoughts on the stuff around them

@@rouge939 Hah! I see what you mean, but I meant it more as a contrast to - how should I say it? - reading by happenstance/reflex or reading because "you have to." As a child, reading was two things: something you have to do for school and something you have to do to participate in society (menus, labels, signs, etc.)
Pikmin 2 was one of the first games where I wasn't just reading to get info for a tutorial or getting character dialogue fed to me by text.

The time limit is still a thing, it just adds another Real time strategy element by making you plan how to use your resources
I can usually have it beat in 14 days and most people can once they get a hold of the game
Unlimited days doesn't change anything if you never reached the limit in the first place. Having a 30 day limit never affected gameplay for people too much.
Plus Pikmin 3 basically has infinite amount of days in comparison too and that is his favorite one currently
Having a set day limit never affected gameplay almost at all

I actually love the Doomsday Apparatus if only for the "holy shit" factor when you first see the 1000 weight. It's also completely optional and in the postgame area. If you're like me, you'll have more than 40 purps by the time you reach it, so I never found the grind to 100 too tedious. You can run through the caves super quickly too; just ignore everything and head straight for the exit of each floor.

It's crazy how many of the issues with the story could have been fixed by just letting Olimar return to his normal life for a few months between games instead of springing the debt on him immediately
I was thinking of that just the other day. As much as I like Pikmin 2, I always felt bad for Olimar having to return so soon!
That’s part of the joke
honestly it is not as jarring when you remember that most of the stuff he needs in the first game is useless for his survival which he mentions himself in game. But yeah a time skip or a scene where he has to leave his family before setting off would make it feel a bit less like a joke.
I literally don't see any problem at all here
A minor thing I love about the series is that in each new game the Pikmin are shown to have advanced
In the first game they’re at or near the bottom of the food chain but by the second game they’ve learned from Olimar and worked there way, up, even managing to survive long enough to develop new offshoots, and by the third one they’re practically the dominant species
Also the song they sing about how much they love Olimar and wish he didn’t have to leave breaks my heart

Subterranean Complex in the first area can get you 15 purples from a single Pikmin in a few minutes by rushing to the exit every floor until level 8
My minds been blown man…
PS: The Water Wraith was the funniest thing to me as a kid, not because of the being itself, oh god no, it’s terrifying! More so the famous Chuggaconroy clip.

I understand your point and it's a rather good point but I think there is value in having a way to officially lose at a game.
@@lordmew5 I do not agree with this
Pikmin 1 made you able to lose the game and have to start all over again from day 1.
@@Frizou No shit, losing isn't supposed to be happy
To quote: "That means time strategy games aren't for them!"
This is a real-time strategy game first
I have to say, while you're entitled to your opinion about this game, I do find the contradiction about what makes an RTS kind of funny.
Cave haters in the Pikmin fandom go on and on about the timer but completely fail to acknowledge the different type of strategy that they add to the games
People so obsessed with the time limit are funny because even without the time limit, those same dedicated players should be pushing themselves to play as fast and efficient as possible anyways and get a low day count
The idea of something other than a timer limiting you is offensive to Pikmin fans, apparently
Honesty these kinds of people are just impatient and want to get it done ASAP. They don't want to spend time thinking about how to tackle a floor; they just want it done.
It's a contradiction what he says, but it doesn't justify the monotonous and trial and error nature of the dungeons in Pikmin 2.

-
EDIT: I super, super agree with your feelings about the dungeon system, though, and the fact that’s how you get the white and purple Pikmin.
Earlier this year, I went on a thirty hour journey to 100% this game, and all I have to say about that experience is... never again.
Also the Pikmin 2 Standard boss theme is really good, better than 3's in all honesty.
(Looking at you, shaggy long legs and pileated snagret.)
Though in the end, like Pikmin 2 itself, it really just comes down to personal preference.

Always delighted to see some Pikmin recognition.

Hey! Can Schaffrillas do a video on Kirby final bosses or talk about Sid the sloth in Encanto like in the Grevious and Sid series?
@@ladymoragsbootlaces8059 "it's a broken game in every aspect."
except this is incredibly wrong in every aspect.
No other video game sound track comes close to what Pikmin 2 managed to accomplish
This man's risking his reputation rn
This a joke btw all three games are phenomenal imo
To be fair, Tears of the Kingdom also started by taking all the hearts I’ve spent 120 hour to acquire, so losing the ship seems pretty common.
@@ThisguySLIt was also really cool when they do the same thing but with the first level and the last level of Halo CE with the Pillar of Autumn.
Seeing Schaff fanboy over something he's genuinely passionate about is just adorable.
Especially his reaction to pikmin 4 on the Nintendo direct.
Hey! Can Schaffrillas do a video on Kirby final bosses or talk about Sid the sloth in Encanto like in the Grevious and Sid series?
@@BrendanJSmith The caves you presented as possible alternatives to the Subterranean Complex all have one or both of the following two problems:
So glad that the pikmin fandom is still active.

More so now that Pikmin 4 got announced not long ago, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the best selling Pikmin game to date, Pikmin’s getting love c:
Pikmin 2: *objectively has the most content with the highest skill ceiling*

Just searching their name on UA-cam search should be enough to find the video.
yesss, the multiplayer mod is one of the best ways to enjoy pik2 rn
In hindsight I adore the random terrible difficulty in this game, it was the most intense game ever as a kid.
Honestly, the rng really worked for me. You had to familiarize yourself with the layout and always assume that the treasure is in a different location, creating a new sense of strategy that one consistent layout doesn’t give. It forces you to improvise, use what you got
Hey! Can Schaffrillas do a video on Kirby final bosses or talk about Sid the sloth in Encanto like in the Grevious and Sid series?
That’s still terrible game design objectively
@@egbertmilton4003 is the difficulty really badly designed?
@@Jdudec367 Considering it is based on instakill traps and stupid broken enemies, forcing you to scour the floors alone with no Pikmin, as you cannot actively engage, prepare or stop the traps, ultimately padding the dungeons with nothing, it objectively must be considered to not be good game design, especially around difficulty. Because if you go through normally, and fight enemies in the ways they are weak to right away, you still will lose Pikmin because they shook them into a bottomless pit, or cramped you into corridors with no escape without warning or a boulder felll right into your pack while engaged.
The dungeons/caves in pikmin 2 are what make it the best pikmin game

I literally rewatched the first pikmin video this morning. Thank you schaffrillas. So hyped for Pikmin 4
To beat the game ( get to the 2nd ending), you actually need to collect every treasure, so 100 purple pikmin IS required to complete the game
04:37 It always fascinates me when a game's sequel has improved presentation despite being on the same console as its predecessor.

Bruh 2 seater or not, the ship holds hundreds of purple & white pikmin and all the treasure. There's room for Louie in the trunk.
Wait they do? What's the explanation?
@@silverfang8717 "A geomagnetic radiation field underground that warps the space-time continuum". In the manual, it just says "powerful magnetic field". Again, not very clear or logical, but I suppose it IS an explanation.
Hey! Can Schaffrillas do a video on Kirby final bosses or talk about Sid the sloth in Encanto like in the Grevious and Sid series?
True...
I hated the Snagrets as a kid! One of the reasons I tackled the Snagret Hole dungeon so late into the game
