i just heard this song for the first time 5 mins ago, thought it maybe new, tried to place who the singer is,closest I could come was lenny Kravitz..no cigar..I love this this song!!!! one verse and one chorus and i gotta watch...agreed about the singer, rollie yeah ok, really liked the dude who sang SEARCHIN' in the 80's, I loved that song , but this rock riff in this is whipass!!!! Guy from matchbox? nada..I like him just not his voice or his music

The band captured on "Lotus" was above all levels of comparison. Also, the lineup for the Freedom tour (1987) is legendary (Buddy Miles, Chester Thompson, Orestes Vilato, Alphonso Johnson...) too.
Open Invitation with Carlos playing his Yamaha SG 2000 and Greg Walker on vocals....rocks! Period. I saw the Santana band with these players at a small club in NYC. As we are waiting for the show to begin I see Greg Walker sitting alone at a table with a drink. He let me take a seat and we talked. He's a very cool and nice dude and they rocked that night; maybe around 100 people in this club...
Inner Secrets is my favorite Santana album. I was learning to play the guitar at the time Inner Secrets came out. I even took Base lessons just to learn the Base part of these songs. These guys are all true professionals.
This was from between June 1978 and March 1979. The lineup at this time consisted of: Carlos Santana (lead guitar/percussion/backing vocals) Greg Walker (lead vocals) David Margen (bass) Chris Rhyne (keyboards/synthesizer) Chris Solberg (guitars/organ/backing vocals) Graham Lear (drums) Armando Peraza (percussion/bongos/backing vocals) Raul Rekow (percussion/congas/backing vocals) Pete Escovedo (percussion/timbales)
First time I've heard of Chris Solberg. I'm a long time fan of Carlos Santana and didn't know of this guy having worked with Santana for so long. Will check him out more now.
Whew'.... wat'a Voice, what Grace, Looks and TaLent here on stage and during the 70's when Rock 'N RoLL was just a Powerhouse of Talent and Carlos wasn't even finished yet, man, what a voice though. Love his voice, wonder why he didn't stay, I'd like someone to ask Carlos this during an interview about things that occured backstage, at parties, during concerts, trips to foreign countries, man. What a Great Life we can only Dream of!! That sound, it's so Raw, from the streets, when things were still young, strong, the protestors, Rock 'N RoLLeRs, Americans and the entire planet was still beautiful, the women sexy, beautiful, men strong, healthy, oceans clean. I wish things could be that way again, even with all the discrimination, I remember it and it wasn't so bad, it wasn't that bad during the 70s. We were all kRaZy , young, Strong, we threw Rocks through windows, laughed, played, fought with our fists like men, still a young World back then. Leave out the racism but keep the rest. I remember the California coast and all the beautiful blondes and Mexican girls down in Baja California and on California's beaches, it was just beautiful back then. May God Bless our planet, this musician and artists who are still alive who gave us Great concerts on the beach! During the 70's and 80's. We need to remember those times and this music and think where we went wrong. He has different nationalities up there and they were all Super Talents! Go Santana and band!
i like him too❤️❤ でも、carlosを主役に引き立てるのにいちばん向いているシンガーは、tony lindsayだと思う(目立たないけど実力があり、安定している、harmonizeもうまい)。彼が長年グループに在籍していたのも頷ける。 santanaは、carlos is the main..( except for guests)
i would have bet the bank that THAT was rick D..... will wtahc it again, cuz I know him well. That comment above may be incorrect.. greg rollie and neal schon of the orig. line-up of journey was the orig. singer and other guitarist, but ai think that must have been before this song. oya como va, black magic woman, what year?
Was in a funk band called Buddy here in the UK. We did this one as soon as it came out and it was regular in our set......went down a storm every time. Brilliant times but alas they end and people move on.
It's a shame that Chris Solberg wasn't in the band longer, Santana was always better with two guitarists, it free'd Carlos up to whale more on the solos while keeping the rhythm heavy on the other guitar. Chris was awesome, the best they had since Neal Schon. I don't think Carlos really ever liked sharing the spotlight though, which was the reason Greg Walker on vocals was asked to leave the first time around, he stole a lot of the spotlight with his stage presence.
I absolutely agree about sharing the spotlight. I saw Santana on this tour, and when the band returned for the encore Greg Walker told the crowd about the dressing down he had just experienced from Carlos, and it sounded like Carlos was experiencing some serious ego problems in spite of all the things that Sri Chinmoy had taught him. People are just who they are, and gurus don't change anybody in the end.
Coke Escobedo on Timbales !! Yes Lord !! Great seeing Armando Peraza, Coke Escobedo, Raul Rekow, all in their in prime doing their thing. And David Margen getting nasty on that Bass !!
Jorge-great to see this. Thanks for posting. I attended the film shoot at Winterland that night. My friends and I are in the crowd somewhere upfront. They also shot the film for Well All Right that night which posted here: ua-cam.com/video/a5pSvhZUu3Q/v-deo.html Interestingly, a couple of years later, I lived on 30th Ave and Lincoln Way, and Armando Peraza lived across the street. He'd frequently come over and jam with my band, and tell us stories about Miles Davis.
I always hear people rave about Alex and he actually ruined Brian Auger and a lot of Santana songs as far as I was concerned. Good material-terrible voice. Off-key all the time. Greg Walker? As good as the very best Soul singers-anywhere from any time period. Transcendance is his masterpiece, but every song by him stunningly beautiful. Carlos wrote in his autobiography about his confidence and work ethic-but not his voice? I never understood this. Watching this it's funny because Chris looks like Rick Derringer and Graham always looked a lot like Michael Shrieve in a way! My first Santana concert March 1st 1978 touring Inner Secrets with Greg Walker just melted the place. It was the first time I ever felt The Holy Spirit! Greg has a nice Gospel album. In a world of garbage music,Greg ought to be rich...
Hey is it just me or does Greg sounds like the lead singer isley brothers Ron I think but he got kicked out of the group and went solo or is it just me.
I think 70’s and the beginning if 80’s Zebop,Shango was Carlos best period on Marathon he had some better tunes. Even if he used the dorian scale frequently his playing was flawless, good licks nice sound. I preferred his sound with a Gibson or the Yamaha. After PRS period and the 90’s he lost his “mojo” ok his elderly now,but I do not fancy him anymore.
Second guitarist Chris Solberg seems a little over the top with all his rock and roll moves & gestures. He apparently didn’t stay in the band all that long.
Greg walker has to be one of the best vocalists in the world.
Definitely Santana's best
@@tram84mvp yes, the WORLD voice is golden !!!
I think so. he is the best vocalist.
He just GLIDES through that song.....that's how its done........🤣
Yes no doubt about it
HOT HOT HOT!!! Saw them at small bar in 1978. Best concert ever. Greg Walker was the perfect voice for Santana. Amazing energy!
best Santana's singer ever
i just heard this song for the first time 5 mins ago, thought it maybe new, tried to place who the singer is,closest I could come was lenny Kravitz..no cigar..I love this this song!!!! one verse and one chorus and i gotta watch...agreed about the singer, rollie yeah ok, really liked the dude who sang SEARCHIN' in the 80's, I loved that song , but this rock riff in this is whipass!!!! phillip cherry this is Greg Walker. Alex Ligertwood sang on "Searchin" both are tremendous, but have to agree Walker was their best.
Greg walker brought so much to Santana was a great vocalist remember seeing him in concert with Santana best day of my life
No doubt about it.
Greg is a true humanitarian love him on the moonflower album check out I'll be waiting and Transcendence
One of the most underrated Santana albums ever - “Inner Secrets” - bad to the bone and my favorite!
Carlos' solo on Move On is so fuckin awesome !!
Totally agree!! Got it back in the Day and still kicks ass!!melodic, progressive and rocking!!!
Gregg Walker is the best singer he ever had, even before Alexander Lidgerwood ! (spelling ?)
@@pateris Agreed. He rocks live! Too bad this recording is sub par! The studio versions are OFF THE CHAIN! This entire album is amazing!
@@w.l.messer4523 Most indeedy !
Greg Walker - what a fantastic vocalist!!!
i just heard this song for the first time 5 mins ago, thought it maybe new, tried to place who the singer is,closest I could come was lenny Kravitz..no cigar..I love this this song!!!! one verse and one chorus and i gotta watch...
Greg has the perfect pitch and tone. My favorite Santana vocalist.
Greg Walker is the greatest lead singer that ever sang for Carlos Santana!
Alex just as good
Best singer of this song, hands down!👍😁

My God father Greg Walker killed that song….. fire

I ever bought 1979 the LP INNER SECRETS and this (open invitation) is until today my favorite song from this album!
Greg was amazing. The besth vocals of Santana
One of the best Santana's lineups
I would say the best.
Yes indeed...
The band captured on "Lotus" was above all levels of comparison.
Also, the lineup for the Freedom tour (1987) is legendary (Buddy Miles, Chester Thompson, Orestes Vilato, Alphonso Johnson...) too.
it is hard to point out which is or was the best line up! all those are awesome!
yes, the bass player is a MONSTER the BEST !!!, David Margen.
Inner Secrets is one of my favorite albums of all time. Popping bass patterns, Latin percussion with rock drum grooves and excellent vocal tracks.
Damn, this was a great Santana lineup!
Open Invitation with Carlos playing his Yamaha SG 2000 and Greg Walker on vocals....rocks! Period.

Joel White its Graham Lear for sure.
I know Mike Shrieve and Graham Lear look kind of alike, but that is the latter on drums.
we are talking about this partic.. vid right? i would have bet the bank that is rick derringer on guitar.. but may have lost the vault's contents..
That's not Rick Derringer on guitar, that's Chris Solberg.
First time I've heard of Chris Solberg. I'm a long time fan of Carlos Santana and didn't know of this guy having worked with Santana for so long. Will check him out more now.

That was Great. I still have my Inner Secrets Record album from the 70s.
My favorite Carlos song and I LOVE Greg Walker's voice! Whatever happened to him? Does he still sing with him?
Sings in church in southern ca. has a website
Nice, thank you!
I saw him singing with the 5th Dimension in 2007 on youtube.
Yes he does cover songs for bands and stuff. He also has a church in Southern California and a website.
As does former lead singer, Leon Patillo.
Awesome!

Believe so his name is Greg Walker if I'm not mistaken.

“one chain” is a cover of a four tops song in 1974.
Yes it is .

Bought inner secrets when it came out
Wish Greg Walker was more popular/mainstream the guy can fucking sing for crying out loud.

To be honest, Santana had e better sound on the Yamaha than he later had on a PRS...

Greg Walker has to be Lenny Kravitz dad
