Capturing James Hetfield's Hardwired Guitar Tone - EVH 5150iii

  • Hey thanks again for tuning in, it's an interesting tone that's really similar to what was also used on Death Magnetic. In a way, it's a really pure tone that requires absolute precision to execute without showing all your mistakes and uneven pick attack.
    James is a beast!!!
    Thanks for tuning in again, feel free to email me with any questions at Lambchopper678@me.com Subscribe to the channel and follow on me Facebook www.facebook.c...

      I find it kinda funny that despite having all the money in the world to build up guitar rigs, they haven't just gotten all the stuff together to use that tone live today. It'd honestly probably be easier to work than their current Axe FX set up, even it was more complex, they're Metallica, I'm sure they could figure it out

    For those wondering, Hetfield’s Hardwired tone was 3 amps blended...
    1. Mesa Mk2C+ (Crunch Berries)
    2. Diezel VH-4
    3. Wizard Modern Classic
    There’s an interview with Greg Fidelman out there discussing the album and he covers how they got to that tone on the album

    Man I'm 56 years old and James' riffs still make me want to mosh into a wall. So simple yet so inspiring, to me at least. You capture his essence and just make me want to play more. It's 8am in the states and I think my wife wouldn't appreciate me blasting it thru the house. I'll give her another 15 minutes. Great as always. Thanks.

    This is my favorite of his tones. Very clean and precious. It really lets his remarkable picking hand technique to come through. It allows the percussive nature of the riffs to really come through nicely. This is a tone that doesn't fatigue the ears and doesn't have a ceiling volume wise. It allows a huge sonic spectrum. Very nice.

    I think I finally understand the logic in this video. Because I finally understood how Mark series amps work. The knobs on the Mark series James uses are before the preamp so they shape the distortion character, exactly what you do in this video😊. I think Mesa would have made it a lot easier for idiots like me if they would call the bass knob „Tightness“ the mid knob „attack“ and the treble knob „Saturation“. I was always confused between the pre eq and the 5 graphic eq Band.
    By the way stellar playing and killer tone !!! Greetings from Germany 🤘🤘

    Since you have tried out the modern album Metallica tone, i'm really interested in hearing if you can capture their live tone on that 5150. If you want to give it a try, then you can catch a snippet of James current tone when they played Battery for Howard Stern. • @LambChopper678
      @LambChopper678  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah the NS-2 can be used for the front end and effects loop at the same time. I find some effects loops have a little noise and eq’s tend to add a bit themselves. The order of effects changes the tone entirely. In this case running the od after the eq loses that tight thump

    I was wondering if you could do a video on how to utilize an EQ in the effect loop in your personal opinion ?
    I'm currently trying to get something close to a Hetfield tone from Enter Sandman or their self-titled album era on my DSL 20.
