Mama, welcome to the 60’s ❤
I love how Edna leaves the Beauty Shop and hesitantly looks around before debuting her new coif. LOVE this movie!
"You look gorgeous, Bertha! Simply exquisite!"
"Oh, I don't know, Pinky"
"Pffft! Have an eclair!"
I could not agree more!
Here, I made you an eclair of sorts to celebrate this moment - ua-cam.com/video/9DavAWKT87I/v-deo.html
Lmao trying to make sure he keeps his customers hefty
@@hihowareya4004 We are all hefty hideaway girls now...
Mr. Pinky deep down had a thing for big girls. ❤
I can't believe they remade this movie. This is the only version in my world. It is perfection.
That last line is how Shaiman and Wittman came up with “Welcome To The 60’s” for Hairspray the Musical
One of my favorite scenes from one of my all time favorite movies ! THANKS so much for uploading for us to enjoy ! Good ol' Mr Pinky !!
Mine too😊
I’ve always remembered this classic line of dialogue.
What line in particular? (Or all of it?)
@@AestheticOfTheImage "Mama, welcome to the '60s!"
Thank you, thank you for posting one of my favorite scenes in this movie, or any movie. "Hairspray" was so boundary crossing on so many levels. I feel better knowing that I live in a world that John Waters also lives in. He must never die, just get older and finally turn into something good to eat.
Hey Mama, Hey Mama, Look Around
Everybody's grooving to a brand new sound
Hey Mama, Hey Mama, follow me!!
I know something's in you that you want to set free
So let go, go, go of the past now
Say hello to love in your heart
Yes I know that the world's spinning fast now
You gotta get youself a brand new style....
Hey Mama, WELCOME TO THE 60'S
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Oh Mama, WELCOME TO THE 60'S
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh
Go Mama, Go, Go, Go!
I loved that movie!
Growing up in Balto, and my mom went to school and worked at the Eldorado. My parents were right in that age range. My dad said they would watch that dance show to see who was on it..then they would beat the guy up the next day in school. Baltimore memories...lol
I have to ask: Why did they beat someone up for being on a dance show?
That bass riff kicks in… Train to Nowhere (by the Champs). Love the music in this movie.
I was living not far from "the Abenue" when they filmed this. Didn't see any of the production, though. Highlandtown, is quite different these days. Not bettet or worse necessarily, just different. I lived a bit south of this in Canton, and that area is hugely different. When I lived there it was a quiet working-class rowhouse neighborhood with old derelict factories and warehouses. Now it's a trendy neighborhood with new and converted apartments and condos, stores and restaurants. Some people would say thst's not an improvement.
I love little stories like this - (even though I have never heard of a 'rowhouse' - is it what we in the UK call terraced houses?)
@@AestheticOfTheImage Yes. Historically Baltimore, unlike New York City, had almost no mult-storied apartment buildings. From the late 1700s, when Baltimore started to grow into a city, up until the end of WWII, which saw the development of suburbs with tracts of single family houses, nearly everyone lived in rowhouses, which were almost all owner-occupied. (Baltimore traditionally had a high rate of home ownership.) This kept density down. The rowhouses come in all sizes, depending on the wealth of the residents, but the earliest ones were narrow, 12-14 feet wide. Often they were fronted by a small set of steps, typically made of white marble blocks, that sat right on the sidewalk (pavement). I've long since moved to another part of Baltimore, but I still live in an old rowhouse.
@@aresee8208 Thanks for the explanation, yes they're called 'terrace' houses in other places. Things change, 'rowhouse' or terrace houses are nowadays generally much older, well-built places close to the central areas, and consequently more expensive and trendy. Perhaps like brownstones in NYC or Chicago? Beautiful, community living homes, everybody knows each other in a row or terrace! You are lucky to live in one, they are a very important part of US urban history.
NooOoooooooooo ur father would kill me 😂😂😂😂 😭🤣😭
Jan Bradley - Mama Did'nt Lie
🤩🌠🤩 After all this time, I absolutely love the Original -Legendary John Waters Hairspray,...& John Travolta should've portrayed Baltimore’s DJ Corney Collins!!!
Did you know that John Travolta played Edna in the 2007 version of Hairspray?
@@ThePoreproductions 🙄 Oh yeah, I knew the J. Travolta portrayed Divine’s role as Edna Turnblad,...just think that he should've been Corny Collins instead.
🤩 His legendary role in Saturday Night Fever & Get Shorty/Be Cool,...Aww c’mon, you know what I mean,...I'm just expressing alil’bit of dignity & respect for J.Travolta.
That's all,...😊
@@lisaaudreyjacintaskinner8578James Marsden was really good at Corney Collins .. I loved John as Edna
