Alright!! You are right on the money, my friend!! You had me from Al Di Meola. Anyway, saw Frank at Cobo Hall in Detroit around 1981, and again at Mingles bar in London, Ontario. Both times with Mahogany Rush. Fuck were they great!!@!!!!!!!!!!! Take care, and good health to you!!!!!
Underrated and unfortunately never made the Gods list of Greatest Guitarists. Been a fan since the late 70s. Saw Frank ayt Day on the Green in Oakland and i was already sold. Hes still on top of my list..#GuitarHero
Frank Marino is considered "the godfather of Canadian shredders" for a whole lot of very good reasons, and this video showcases loads of those reasons! Nobody does it better, and anyone who condemns Frank as "a Hendrix imitator" hasn't really listened to him! Rock on, Frank... you're an inspiration to guitarists the whole world 'round! 😁
He was boycotted by every radio station even montreal CHOM rock station , once in the blue moon the played ''dragonfly'' he deserve much more credits he does a very good rendition of voodoo chile , i've seen him live in a small city called Valleyfield blew my mind playing hearing him play Hendrix tribute songs just after the death of Jimi !
@@1badpete999 Yeah, Frank never got the recognition he deserved from his hometown. Even so, he still managed to become a household name elsewhere. I know people in Ireland who lined up the day new Mahogany Rush albums went on sale. 😉
@@1badpete999 I don't think he was boycotted by every station just because he said in a interview that his first record he had made he stayed up for hours listening to some radio station to hear it finally being played in a interview he said while he was still living at home with his parents . I remember in the 80s while living in MN the radio station KQRS used to play Strange dreams quite often for a good solid year when listening to the radio in my parents garage while working on our snowmobiles back then in the winter or when driving my car that spring and summer. After that his music pretty much disappeared from the radio waves but I would still buy albums and cassettes of his music . I still have a bunch of CDs of him and I have XM radio in my truck and Ozzy's bone yard plays him once in a while mainly when Jim Flourentine is in as a radio announcer who plays a wide variety of hard rock and metal on that station . I got to see Frank once with this same lineup with his brother Vince as the rhythm guitar player who by the way can play very well also but the lineup consisted of Angel city , Missouri, Humble pie and Mahogany Rush who was the headliner and played last but I do remember that there were some hard core Humble pie fans in the row in front of us right in front of us and when Frank did Electric reflections of war they just stood there with jaws dropped at what he was doing with his guitar . I'm not sure who Humble pie had for a guitar player but who ever it was couldn't even compare or come close to what Frank was playing and doing and usually that band had some pretty good guitar players like Peter Frampton who had left before then to go solo who I've seen back in the 90s and is a heck of a guitar player although it was a short lived outdoor concert and bad weather came in and the concert got shut down permanently that night because of high winds rain and lightning I remember that was in Elk River MN but I do remember him saying that he got his black Gibson Les Paul back that had got stolen years before by someone and he managed to track it down and find it . I believe it was a 58 or 59 he said with the 3 pickups in the body that you see so often in pictures with him playing it . That concert that night consisted of Foghat as well although the only remaining original band member was the drummer and the rest gone and the singer Dave Pevrett had died already by then from cancer .

It's really educational to have a clear video of Frank doing these iconic riffs from MR live. Of all the virtuoso rock guitarists, Frank has had arguably the least attention from the guitar magazines. I don't understand why that is: he does the Hendrix pentatonic thing better than anyone I'm aware of, and that kind of playing will never go out of fashion. Maybe Frank should consider doing an instructional DVD in which he breaks down a song like this. It would probably increase his exposure.
