Oh boy. There would be a tsunami of unnecessary procedures performed if this was implemented. Terrible idea. Recommendations are made based on risk vs benefit, and clearly the risk of unnecessary interventions following up on things that aren't cancer is a bigger risk than possibly the tiny percentage that will turn out to be malignant. If it were as simple as a scan being sensitive AND specific they would already be doing it. There is no great conspiracy about cancer being too lucrative to cure. The fact is that cancer is thousands of diseases, and there will not ever be a single cure, nor a single test that will be effective for early intervention.
You'll increase your risk for cancer with an annual full-body MRI and the MRI itself won't do much good. You'll find a ton of abnormalities and you can't investigate all of them unless you have matching symptoms. It will never happen.

PSA: Maria does NOT have pancreatic cancer. She has Neuroendocrine cancer that happened to present in her pancreas. (Likewise with Aretha Franklin & Steve Jobs). They were all reported incorrectly, and then PCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) were only too happy to go public with Maria on this. It took the limelight away from neuroendocrine cancer (NETS) which desperately needs awareness and funding. It is irresponsible to say that Maria has beaten pancreatic cancer. Very important to know the difference as they have differing symptoms. Neuroendocrine is non-aggressive & people often live a long time with quality of life, whereas pancreatic cancer is very aggressive. The treatments are entirely different, requiring a team of specialists in the appropriate field.
Makes sense. I had a feeling this might be the case. I’m glad for her but since my actual job is collecting cancer data, I didn’t think this was a case of deadly pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Glad you have posted this message.
@@mcd5478 I'm involved with NETS and this has been a contentious issue in general as it has been reported incorrectly too many times. It's a shame as neuroendocrine cancer desperately needs more awareness, not just for FUNDING but also to implement campaigns so everyone is AWARE of the symptoms - both for unaware sufferers and doctors so they can PICK it UP EARLY.
Yes you're absolutely correct Maria. But you also have the best team of doctors because you have the money to pay for the best team of doctors. It's truly as simple as that. The more poor people don't have access to that kind of care
Yes your statement is true. But it gives me hope that she said she is fighting for that to change and for insurance to cover a yearly test. So we can hope.
Why do you keep criticizing her because she was able to afford better care. Yes it's true her money and public influence helped her but she clearly realizes that there are major inequalities in the Healthcare system. She clearly stated she will advocate until full body MRI is covered by insurance for everyone. She does not have to do this. She wants to do it because she knows it's unfair and that she would not be alive today if not for that scan. Her doctors dismissed her symptoms too. However they could not argue with the results of the full body MRI. If you were privileged you would use any means necessary to save yourself too. Anyone would.
A team of Dr's, plus a holistic team that spends TWO HR'S with you!! Not realistic for average people--($$$) as they spend four minutes with you & blow you off...⬇️
I was diagnosed and had a massive surgery for my Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Cancer in my early 30s. Was misdiagnosed for years and years. I was told my stomach issues, vomiting and pain was IBS, Anxiety, hormones, and was told to eat a cracker to help with the debilitating nausea, that I needed to lose weight to feel better, that after menopause my hormones would settle down and I would feel better, was told to quit worrying. I had to MAKE someone find the tumor. It took years. The tumor was even found after a car wreck and was misdiagnosed as a cyst. I was also sent to physical therapy for the pain in my back which was actually my pancreas eating itself from the acid. Still, I had to go through multiple GI doctors before I found my current pancreas specialist who correctly diagnosed the quarter sized tumor as a PNET. The exact same thing happened years later with my heart. I told numerous cardiologists something was wrong with my heart bc I was passing out, sweating and having chest pains. Tests showed nothing. Same old treatment from the doctors: it’s stress, it’s your stomach, it’s anxiety. I was PASSING OUT and they said it was stress. After 3 years of heart related symptoms I was brought to my knees by chest pains. I went to the ER and refused to leave, arguing for 24 hours as they tried to get me to leave. I refused to leave bc I knew I would die. Finally, my first heart cath revealed The Widow Maker and 98% LAD blockage. I had a CABG that failed and 2 days later had to have another CABG after dying twice in the hospital. I even had to tell them I was dying, there in the hospital bed, before they realized my heart was filling with blood from the leaking repair that they had just done. So…my advise is keep on demanding help until you get an answer. Some doctors try a little, some don’t know enough, some situations are just really complex, some doctors only see the obvious and look no further, some doctors really care but still can’t help, and some doctors discriminate if you are a woman. YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE.
As someone who is continuously battling for her own health, it really is a struggle. Passed from specialist to specialist. One says "oh you have this" and the next says "oh, you don't have that" it's exhausting and expensive. I am so glad she got answers and that she fought for herself!
Our daughter had surgery in March to remove a benign cyst from her pancreas. She is going to sonography school and students were doing test sonograms on each other. Their instructor saw my daughters sonogram and the large cyst on her pancreas. My daughter had no symptoms of any type. The cyst was removed along with her spleen and surrounding lymph nodes. Her surgeon told her that the sonogram class saved her life. When these cyst start causing problems it is usually too late. Maria was very lucky. Our daughter is doing great and she was blessed with a great surgeon. Also, she works for a large online company in their distribution center. She had excellent insurance benefits - sonogram, 2 different types of MRIs, endoscopy and then the surgery. She works and goes to sonography school.
That doesn't make sense. Why would she have her spleen , which is a valuable part of the immune system, removed? Why would she have her lymph nodes removed for a mere cyst?
@@chrislastnam6822 the cyst was very large. To remove all the cyst the spleen had to be removed also. Lymph nodes were removed on the side of caution. All test results came back negative for cancer. Her doctor was a surgeon who specialized in this type of surgery. I’m positive he knew what he was doing. Oh, you can live without your spleen. In certain situations, it is a necessity to remove.
I'm so happy for her! Rarely is pancreatic cancer found at such an early stage. The only thing that absolutely grieves my heart about this and so many other diseases is the fact that everyday people who don't have excess money or know people in high places will continue to die from a disease that we were all led to believe can't be caught early! This is proof that it actually can be caught early with the right scan at the right time. Many everyday people have had 'a feeling' that something was wrong but when the doctor sent them home they had no where else to turn. A full body scan can cost as much as 10K, but even lower end is a couple grand and not everyone can afford that.😢

And they say it can't be caught early. Father in Heaven keep people like this willing to let the light of knowledge shine for the health of all your people.
Her type of pancreatic cancer is different than the typical pancreatic cancer which is found at stage 4. She had a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor which is slow growing and usually not deadly. These tumors are found earlier bc they often come along with symptoms at an earlier stage. I know this bc my son had a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor also. I appreciate what she’s trying to do, but her tumor is very different than the most common type of pancreatic cancer which doesn’t usually have symptoms until stage 4.
I’ve lost friends and family from this cancer and several other cancers, and they all suffered from misdiagnosis until it was too late. Thank God more people are surviving these days. ❤

@@Ceerads Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors, or P-NETs. It is considered a rare cancer. Even with P-NETs, there are forms of it that are more aggressive than others...both Steve Jobs and Aretha Franklin had the more aggressive versions and died from it. Mine happens to be slow growing, slow spreading...but, has probably had about a 15 - 20 year head start, before being found.
My brother received his pancreatic cancer diagnosis on his 50th birthday. We knew something bad was wrong when he turned as orange as a pumpkin at Halloween. I even teased him about using him with my fall decorations. He got all the treatments available from the cancer centers in our area. And God gave us a miracle of 5 years with him and then a small spot appeared. He volunteered to receive a treatment in a Little Rock hospital. They tried a treatment used in breast cancer and it destroyed his liver. It's very important that you hold your loved ones up in prayer to the Lord and always have a positive attitude. Glad she caught it early. Pancreatic cancer is very hard to catch early and is almost always caught too late, which is why it is the deadliest major cancer to be diagnosed with. We unfortunately caught my dad's pancreatic cancer too late. It was stage 4, and then we only had 10 months together. Last month was 4 years without my dad. I can't believe it.
@@theresabrown1272 Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss as well. ♥Do you know if their cancers were a result of the BRCA gene? In our case it was. It was the same gene that caused breast cancer in my dad's mom who I never got to meet, so I should be tested for it at some point.

Same. I had 6 fibroid tumors in my uterus. Had a botched hysterectomy..they cut my Ureter! Had a nephrostomy tube into my back to drain my kidney until my second surgery for repair in the middle of that I got sepsis! That was a rough year!
I pray you can get insurance coverage to prevent this! I lost my father to pancreatic cancer at the age of 17, he was 47. They didn't even tell him he had cancer. He found out too late! He went back to the doctor because he kept feeling worse and the doctor asks how his treatment was going and he said what treatment and that's how we found out... Some hospitals and doctors should not exist! Had they done their job right my father could have had a longer life. He passed within the year.
I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer in 1992 at 17 too, she was 39. She suffered for 9 months they said at one point she psychosomatic. Then they removed her gallbladder. Then they opened her & said it’s pancreatic cancer & she had a month to live. She passed in 3 months. Traumatizing to see her go through this for my whole family. The doctors were horrible & misdiagnosed for 9 months while she suffered.
I'm so sorry for all the loss in your families. It is a devastating disease. My sister was diagnosed 3 years ago this month. They only found it because they were looking at another problem she had. They found it, early! Because of that, they did the Whipple procedure and as of this month she is still cancer-free after 3 years. She never had any other treatment. She and our family are blessed to still have her around. And so when I hear of someone having pancreatic cancer, I know it's probably a death sentence unless it's caught early. My heart aches for the families that deal with this cancer. Please, if you have symptoms or you feel like something's wrong don't give up until they do scans that can actually see this monster.
My dad was also getting worse and worse. Went to the doctors about 25 times in 6 months. He actually went to the ER with upper abdominal pain and couldn’t eat. They gave him antacid and told him it was upper abdominal pain. A month later they found stage 4 pancreatic cancer that spread to the liver and lungs. He passed 14 days later.

Pancreatic cancer is a beast!! My mom was diagnosed at age 52 in 1991 after many attempts of trying to figure out what was wrong. This is back at the exact time Michael Landon was diagnosed. They died four days apart. I am really happy that medical technology has advanced since this time, as it is so hard to detect, even now. I hope they do approve of screening. I would definitely get my screening due to my family history. Thank you Maria for being so open and trying to make a change. So happy you're cancer free!

I had acute pancreatitis from a gallstone last summer and still get pain in that area every now and then. I hope she can get the insurance companies to cover the annual scanning. I would like to have the peace of mind. Maria is an inspiration.
Maria is absolutely correct, you are your best doctor. I'd like to also add that unless they've got there own prescription pad, they're just students that still have to pass the test for that week, practicing on you.
Funny to hear this now. I know I had a heart attack last week. I felt chest pain when on the treadmill. Of course I got off the treadmill immediately. I made appointment to see my primary in 3 days. The pain came & went for those days. EKG showed a change from prior EKGs. Cardiologist soon. But my body is telling me to slow down which is hard for me. After listening to this woman's story I've decided I will listen to its signals.
You are amazing, I can sympathize I had nodules in my lung and shortness of breath. The nodules started growing which I was told that's when to get them out. So finally found the right Drs to take a part of my lung taking all of the nodules. My mother died of lung cancer I am cancer free
What’s devastating is most people do not have the money, or insurance to cover early testing. Nor do they have a community of doctors and specialists who can get them in, or spend time with a patient. People go for their check ups, tell their doctor what’s bothering them and it’s not seriously looked into- the answer is usually “ take this prescription, it will help”. Someone very close to me died of pancreatic cancer… because throughout all the doctors visits, it wasn’t a “priority “ to do testing. It was discovered at stage 4. The health system MUST do better!!!
My female OBGYN refused to give me an ultrasound even though I've had uterus pain for months. She suggested a CT scan. Took one month (yes really) and I got a letter in the mail from Blue Shield of CA and they denied the CT scan because they said "it's not medically necessary". It helps to be famous, beautiful and rich I suppose. But I'm glad she found out what's wrong with her and that she is on the up and up!
Or it was denied because you were actually right and needed a pelvic ultrasound rather than a CT scan. Find a new doctor who will order one for you. Absolutely ridic.

Who still believes anything these fake news covid💉💉💉💉liars have to say. Stop lying on GOD Al Roker ain't no miracle happened here!
Thank you for this response. Pancreatic cancer rarely causes symptoms early in the disease, which is why it is most often diagnosed in Stage 3 or 4.
Yes, maybe she can do something that helps regular people
Why do you keep criticizing her because she was able to afford better care.
I can also give you an answer that answered all my health problems: the blood type diet
Did you get an mri?
Excellent story! I'm happy that she's doing well for herself. Congrats!
A full body scan can cost as much as 10K, but even lower end is a couple grand and not everyone can afford that.😢
Giving thanks to Herbalist Doctor Kingsley is something I will always take personally because he's so powerful and his herbal medicine works effectively in curing lots of disease such as cancer, herpes disease, diabetes, kidney disease, heart failure, lupus and many more disease you can think of. My thanks to Herbalist Doctor Kingsley and I'm so glad I came across his channel on UA-cam @ (THE SEVEN DAYS FAST CURE FOR HERPES 1&2)
You are sooo right...everything you've said here. It shouldn't be that hard and it shouldn't be that expensive to get the help you need to not die from a disease.
@smpirrello thank you for clarification
I’ve lost friends and family from this cancer and several other cancers, and they all suffered from misdiagnosis until it was too late. Thank God more people are surviving these days. ❤
I’m so glad to see Maria getting her life back.
God bless this woman for using her position to try and get the mri covered. Many love and blessings to her and her new family ❤🙏🏼
She would NOT feel blessed if not for the excellent insurance, her" platform", and hefty remuneration provided by her career in media. Such a stark contrast to the quality of care and aftercare available to the majority of Americans. She is a perfect example of what IS possible with excellent coverage and resources for high quality food, naturopaths, andcelective procedures.

@@Ceerads Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors, or P-NETs. It is considered a rare cancer. The same cancer I was diagnosed with about 2 months ago and will be undergoing a Whipple Procedure to remove the bottom third of my stomach, head of my pancreas, gall bladder, and then about 18" of small intestine including the duodenum, and then redo the "plumbing" with what's left, in about 2 weeks.

I am glad Maria Menounos doing 100% better. Congrats on her and her spouse .
I’m sorry for your loss. Both my maternal grandmother and maternal cousin died from pancreatic cancer . It’s a very tough cancer. 😞
@@theresabrown1272 Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss as well. ♥Do you know if their cancers were a result of the BRCA gene? In our case it was. It was the same gene that caused breast cancer in my dad's mom who I never got to meet, so I should be tested for it at some point.

I was misdiagnosed for 15 years, it was stage 4 endometriosis. Dozens of doctors dismissed me or just did not see the signs. After 2 excisions, a bowel resection and a hernia repair I am finally okay. Still drowning in medical debt from testing and surgeries. Insurance should do more for us. TRUST YOURSELF and don't give up until you get an answer!!
Sounds like medical care you get in FL or GA… & probably in the rest of the Southern U.S.
I love her, she is one of the kindest in and or out of the industry. I met her in high school briefly when when was in town and always remembered her. That was almost 17 years ago! Love her testament and attitude. God bless her and her family 🌼

She was Healthy as a horse and not overweight by any means- she was very active and had 0 issues before this. NONE. She never had anything even close to a health scare or any surgeries. They misdiagnosed her multiple times over the course of a year and by the time they "found" it she was stage 4 and she left 5 children and grandchildren, her brand new home she just moved into in less than 1 month...
What a truly beautiful person.
My female OBGYN refused to give me an ultrasound even though I've had uterus pain for months. She suggested a CT scan.

This is really such insightful advice. I love how she is advocating for this to be covered by insurance. The reality is that a lot of people who do have something early in the stages most likely are aware of something going on in their body, but the fear or lack of resource for covering the costs deters them from being seen and helped. Yes, please, please, please advocate for screening of pancreatic cancer. My mother died of it, AND her mother died of it before I was even born! God bless you.
I have never heard of anyone who survived pancreatic cancer, she is truly blessed ❤
She likely won’t survive it. Her treatments will help to extend her life, but will not cure it. It will eventually progress.
@@LoveABun this is correct. I see cancer as not an if but a when once you go into remission
Maria live that you quoted Tony! I am going through some health stuff and I do the same keep positive and look forward never back! God bless you!
