Immediately looks like Wasteland 3 to me, more than the titles you've mentioned.
100%
😅 yes
I might redownload wasteland 3.
Yep - and I still haven’t played W3 after playing thru W2 three times
Yea idk what SplatterCat was thinkiny
Oh, its a good excuse for crime.
"I had no choice but to rob you, good sir, government made me do it!"
"it's called 'Taxes' Richard"
that's subsequential to "my tummy hurts and I'm mad at the government"😆
The little radio chatter window suggests that they aren't lying(or, at least, are embellishing rather than making things up out of whole cloth): you get the odd radio from them; and at around 26:30 shaved-head dude notes that "Our civilian contacts at Riverside have gone silent" and a "Captain Adam Lane" offers to investigate; and is told that finding the bodies at the original site is a waste of time; but whoever hit them is likely to be at the other shelter in the are(I think that's the player's one) and they are to proceed there and capture or pacify.
I'm not sure how much of the ambiguity is the game's decision and how much is an editorial decision; but the military-or-paramilitary guys sniffing around whatever 'anomaly' is causing trouble where in direct contact with the raider camp that you fought with; and appear to have substantial knowledge of the local civilian arrangements.
Given that they probably aren't out of guns cobbled together from matches and fertilizer yet; I'd assume that either GTFO-ing, discovering that it was all a misunderstanding and working with them to some degree, or (some) of them discovering that whatever creepy continuity-of-government authority they are operating under is not all it was advertised as and joining you is in the cards; because it's going to be a real short game if you either get indefinite detention on gruel rations in a blacksite somewhere; or have to shoot it out with people who aren't just as bumbling and desperate as you are.
old campfires should give you the charcoal
That is one special palm tree
in the snow
The game looks amazing but the lack of manual saving its a huge deal breaker, i hope they add it later on the development.
Palm trees and snow? Interesting
They were uber GMOified or Fallout kind of situation I guess.
@@inkuban I believe the palm tree is intelligent, and it is the games' final boss. It will chuck coconuts at the player with furious fervor.
Reminds me of Wasteland 3 and Wartales, with some aspects of Dead of Winter (board game). Good genes to have but I can see how it needs more time. If they want to have a punishing save system to give an ironman feeling I would much prefer an aggressive auto save (ala Darkest Dungeon) than an inconvenient save system.
Wasn't expecting that overworld map - that's kinda atypical as a strategy layer for the cookie cutter turn-based tactics game (usually its the Xcom-style base building; assign Bob the Sniper to the weight room for 2 missions or whatever). This looked more like...Wartales on Ice? =P
Definitely went on my wishlist! - but today also happens to be the start of Steam summer sale craziness, so I've got like 10 games I have been holding off on that I'm now having to prioritize and decide on
Best time of day when that upload from splatt hits
True dat!
Thanks, Splatt. This is right up my alley - instant wishlist.
Same. If this game manages what it's trying to do, it'll be on my top 10 along with XCom
Watching poor Cat trying to explain what is essentially Wasteland 3 using several other games and weird terms is adorable. 😊
Assumes he played Wasteland 3 to make the comparison. You can only go with what you know.
He did
Wasteland 3 or Jagged alliance 3.
@@Bananahammock681 " You can only go with what you know."
that doesn't SOUND like the internet.....
Holy condescension Batman
It seems interesting that there's no difference in the camping mechanics depending on whether you have one of the lootable structures around or not.
I'm not expecting the central heating to still work or anything; but it seems like you should get substantially better results from something that still keeps the wind out and has viable furniture; better results from a weathertight but not designed for comfort garage/outbuilding/warehouse/etc. and the full camping experience where you need to either have the gear, burn a lot of stuff, have some specialist knowledge, or just take comfort in the fact that freezing in your sleep is a fairly quiet way to go.
This is more "The Long Dark" than "Frostpunk".
Or 95% like Wasteland 3 ;-)
What, we don't get a "NOOO Billy", there at the end?
Just kidding Splat thanks for as always your honest opinion and reviews of these games.
I have to say this one looks a lot like "Wasteland 3/Colorado", although I've yet to play it, as it's just been chilling in my library.
Take care and God Bless...
The ui looks clean and the color scheme is nice, overall scavanging pallet looks great, character models decent, but that ui i am liking a lot. Do hope the bugs get cleaned up. Id be interested in trying this game out. Ty Splat!
You had me at "lovechild of Stalker Xcom"
18:07 struggle WHAT?!
loving this game - will definitely add this to my wishlist
I find it looks, along with the general design, charming. I will of course wait for a more final product (already Wishlisted because of you last time).
Nb: I was thinking... If I was part of a gaming studio, I think I would avoid Early Access, because too many people don't understand "in development" (I mean that it creates a bad impression and reputation for the game). I would probably opt instead for a) internal focus groups during Alpha, and b) a closed-Beta with a NDA, and c) maybe Early Access when the game is pretty much released but with minor tweaking and QOL stuff to check.
yeah alot of games seem to go in to early access waaaaay too soon, but even worse imo would be the never ending ones (for legal reasons?)
Honestly, i was expecting this type to be the next Frostpunk.
I am in^^
I am winter persona, summer sux !
This has a lot of potential, a rare treat.
Thanks for covering the game Splatter! This seems pretty good. Shame about the small bugs
omg cant wait to play inner rectum!
This really reminds me of Wartales... between the overworld, tactical combat, camping system...
I like this. It's definitely something I'm going to pick up.
Riverside is literally an oven irl rn haha
No auto-lean? What are we, barbarians?
The first thing I thought when I saw the map was they played Wasteland 3. The map looks almost identical to a map I remembered from that game.
This has such awesome potential. I hope it works out
This is so rad would love to see a zombie mod
excellent!
I hope some psychological elements of combat will be introduced, like they did in Jagged Alliance2 with the 1.13 Project. That was the best tactical RPG ever, mimicking real combat where suppression fire is actually a thing (not just a "special skill" of a character, but the performance of troops and their AP costs were directly adjusted by how much near misses they received).
Thus game looks dope.
The only difference between post apocalyptic and current California seems to be the temperature.
Looks just like my kind of game. Hope they get it working and finished cause it would definitely be a buy for me.
I like scavenging part, crafting, combat, and the game in general. What I don't like is the fact that you're stuck with just one environmental hazard - cold. I understand that this is a crucial plot point, but I prefer something... with less cold and snow xD
thanks
Really interesting game. But it seems that it is in a very raw state right now, and from what I could see in the Steam reviews, it doesn't seem to have developed much in the past year, which makes me doubt if the devs will be able to get it to a more playable and enjoyable state. A lot of potential, hope to see good things about it in the future.
Hello! Im one of the developer :) Game still has issues but it is an early access. We are working very hard to improve it and fix all bugs. About changes - since last year demo we added completely new caravan management mode, a lot of new battle maps, weather system, a looot of new events, new playable chatacters, character creation, new fog of war system and finally our worldmap is six times bigger than in demo. Sooo it changed a lot :) but yeah, we are still fighting with bugs and issues. I hope that one day you will play our game! Cheers and have a nice day :)
@@MSgenro Very nice. Active devs are a great sign. And good to hear you talking about the development since your demo. Didn't know the game before and said based on what I read on Steam. And if the game continues at this pace, I'll play in for sure soon enough. Thanks for the reply.
@@jeancarlo1680 Thank you too! It's a good lesson for us to clearly inform what are the changes before releasing an update. These reviews about 'abandonware' did us a serious damage, not only in a manner of 'selling the game' but also people in the team feel very unfair and hurt because we did a very hard job to release this early access
It's that stem reviewers is mistaken saying EA isnt more developed than the demo, there's lots of new content
The inventory management is just a pain. I'll wait a while before I get this.
My heart always drops a bit when I hear "this game has an esoteric saving system that you can only use every once in a while." Unless you're playing a game where specifically the tension in getting to your next save point is part of the thrill (like a horror experience like Alien Isolation), imo it is a must nowadays for games to accommodate the simple fact that at any point a gamer might have something happen that requires them to get up and stop playing at a moment's notice.
Especially with the shitty power outages happening now
Looks like The Long Dark, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. And Xcom birthed this game. Sir, this is one to watch
Major Division vibes. Not my cup of tea but I am sure it will have an audience.
First.
Been watching ages. Just wanted to say thanks Splatty! You’ve introduced me to tons of great stuff over the years.
This is one of the games with most potential I've seen lately, I really hope the devs fix the game.
It looks like the pathing just tries to get to an optimal point without hitting the overwatch cone. Likely some decision table regarding when they will “choose” to walk through it (e.g., hit %, whether they end up in full cover, etc).
TL;DR - you can probably use the overwatch cones to herd the AI into positions you can then move to take advantage of.
So this what Californians do in the summer, they play games set during winter.
Searching time should have an option to be faster
An ice age.. with palm trees. >_>
Why did they have to name rifle an "STD"
Standard. I'd assume it refers to the weapon's quality, since many of the guns are very recognizable for what they actually are.
I notice the vector like rifle is also STD so it does likely mean 'Standard' as Dave said
Supersonically Transmitted Death
Are you talking about a touqe? I like how you know what a hozer is though lol.
I think you only got one bullet because Jodi has a crafting efficiency of 4%.
13:52 .300 Winchester Magnum*
Ive been into TTRPG's or CRPG as long as it has turn base nowadays.
You could make better use of your tactical.AP to get additional actions per turn. You had quite a lot stored As indicated by the bar at the top the screen.
So its current day SoCal only with snow LOL
🖤
You did a video of this 8 months ago. Could have mentioned that and what was updated since then.
post apocalypse snow land xcom, i'm watching just to figure out why this isn't wasteland 3
I also think this looks a bit like Wartales
Xcom turn based squad attack move with cover games are hard to balance right. It’s either a trivially easy system or every single battle is a 1 to 3 hour long chore.
Even xcom. Which has enemies perfectly placed to have maximum bullshit where you have to move into position slow because they’re always placed exactly 1 tile out of range and in perfect ambush position on you at the start of their turn. And then they add artificial timers to push you faster.
Xcom would be a lot better if rookies and veterans were more similar so its not game bricking if your lose a single character or fail a single mission which not only causes injury but you lose the mission reward lose the exp potential lose the kill drops and lose the xcom country.
The whole genre seems to just be too luck dependent and you can wither get completely bricked like I said or maybe the devs figure out some game journalist mode to prevent you from losing if it detects you losing.
In JRPGs you can always run away or farm an easier area for money or exp to buy better items. You’re never really bricked.
In souls games you can level up or git gud. There’s not really a situation you’re stuck unless you refuse to git gud.
It just seems like most other genres have figured out ways around all these problems. But I’ve been burnt on these xcom style games nearly 100% of the time.
The thing i was wondering, and unable to understand, is if the game continues over the main story ( like xcom: enemy unknown or even battletech ) or not. I like the idea to continue as fasr as i like to go on. Not like Aliens: Dark Descent for instance. if anybody knows, i'd appreciate the info, cause this title is very interesting
Name is so terrible that I actually remembered I already have this on wishlist.
9:50 seems to imply some kind of stalker like anomalies???
The hat is commonly known as a trapper hat or muffler cap. I live where its cold, dont ask why idk why, i hate cold. Oh yeah im poor amd economy sucks so thats why i cant move past the ice wall. Lolz
That hat is called a toque. Pronounced like the Lord of the Rings character.
Looks really good but still needs a lot of polish it seems
The name of the game would be hard to remember in terms of marketing and auience attention span. I hope im wrong
The lack of manual save is really a bad idea. If the game experience is enhanced by permadeath, then make it an option. Even a recommended option. But don't take it away from more casual players.
Why this game has mixed reviews on Steam? Why people are so upset, game looks quite nice
Not much updates in the last year ;-)
12:48 HOW is that guy carrying almost 40 kg??? maybe the game is actually in pounds? Ain't no way dude has like 30 bullets and a bottle of wine, with his close and guns that'd be like 15kg.
its the DIVISION by ubisoft (the first one, not the latest one) that meets Xcom, not frostpunk.
Wasteland 3 ;-)
I'd say the game looks more like "The long dark" Then frostpunk.
I’m cool with a quality Wasteland 3 clone
Game looks very cool
This like wartales a little bit
Grom throwback
What annoys me is the palmtrees
seems like the game has everything to be cool, but lotta reviews saying devs got a bad record and game is abandoned due to lack of updates.
Devs are active on discord abs just released a big patch, EA has a bunch more content than the demo. That doesn't feel like an abandoned game to me.
Developer here: There is one guy who still claims in his review, that the game is abandoned and its the same as the demo version. But it's an awful lie. We are working hard to polish this game, we are fixing all noticed bugs and working on a balance right now. The game was released about 15 days ago and we already published 2 updates (2nd one was pushed today) with bugfixes, optimization and balancing the gameplay. You can expect further updates soon. Cheers
@@MSgenro Yeah I don't know what that guy's deal is. Several people have pointed out how inaccurate his claim is and yet he still persists in arguing. It's almost like some gamer want to see developers fail.
@@nullvoid244 they only just posted it like yesterday, been dead for like a year before that, and all i saw was bug fixes in the patch.
@fredrickmansav6852 Who is they, and what is it? If you're talking about the patch that's at least a week or two maybe longer. What do you mean all you saw, is bug fixes that's huge. Stop acting so entitled.
How does it compare to wasteland 2 or 3?
It couldn't have happened to a better state. 😆🤣🇺🇸
She gets cold a lot. So a hyper-realism game.
Very kewl, but the name is ???
These developers who make games with snow everywhere don't realize its a big turn off to those of us that live in the snow belt. I won't touch Frostpunk. Its cold enough already.
Nothing bad in that. Games shouldn't be for everyone ;-)
I don't really like deserts so I very rarely play games where 90% of the map is desert.
15 dakka bölüm analizi 150 dakka animasyonlar selamlar sabahlar.
"Post-apocalyptic California" is redundant, just say "California"
seems alot like wasteland 3 tbh
The title feels AI generated. XD
Developer here: xDD hahah, well, we changed the title of the game after last year demo.before it was even longer than now xD
my immersion would be ruined with this game. GUNS in California??? Yeah right.
But ofc a african will get cold in this :)
There will ned to be more of a story, more of a point. I'll get bored right quick with just scavenging and a few generic fights. They provide a bigger playing experience, I would be most interested.
1) everything is frozen
2) lots of dead people
why are people in this game struggling for food?
They need to change the name of this game🤦♂️
Is someone paying you every time you say "actively?"
I wish he'd stop making titles saying every game is like other famous game famous games! Just say "turn-based strategy game" or something.
I expect that mentioning a couple of popular related games in the title leads to coming up in search and recommendations more often.
Yup! Another click bate title and it is getting pretty old. Especially when they have nothing to do with the game. Frostpunk??? There is snow I guess lol
@@codyperry4011 personally, I want all of the youtubers I enjoy to bait as many clicks as they need to so that their business remains financially viable and I can keep enjoying them.
@@rantingrodent416 I’d argue that there are natural organic ways to do this that aren’t sleazy and annoying. This path may get bunch in the doors but it’s not the way to keep them. I also want them to do well but I’d also like to not be feeling like I was duped or like I just watched a soulless sales pitch afterwards.
@@codyperry4011 I guess. I've never had to do it for a living myself, so I just assume it's harder than I think it is from the outside.
It's pretty much the same as the demo but made worse by some UI changes.
Think I'll pass on this one.
As a general rule, I won't play any game that uses "skirt around the boundaries of their cone" as a dynamic against the player. Bad choice, or bad programming. Either way, breaks immersion and overall feels like cheating
13:28 indeed i have been warned. this is one of the no goes for me. I have bad inventory management as it adds pointless, tidious and boring playtime. no thanks.
The early access is same as the demo released months ago no further development.Seems has been abandoned
Hello, I am one of developers and I need to say that this is complete false statement. The game changed a lot, since last year demo we added character creation, weather system, completely new base/truck management mode, traveling on a world map using a truck, a lot of new battlemaps. Now the world map is a six time bigger than in the demo version. Also we have a new playable character, a looooot of events and a lot of other stuff. Any informations that the game is the same as the last year demo, are completely lie. Cheers
Incorrect, tons of new content, a quite large map
Cor, love splatters work but some days his tortured "lets use the wrong big word to sound clever" just grates so bad! Why does he do that?
