Orients and Seikos are awesome and my orients keep better time then my Tissots. For what I paid for my Orients, they are amazing.Only my Omega De Ville keeps better time but for value, Orient wins.
Not sure if my last comment went through but Purchased the Orient Blue Ray! based on this. You are unquestionably one of the most dedicated channels on UA-cam/the internet. Next will be the Squale when I start working and leave Graduate level education and start making real dollars ! Really enjoyed your videos on not being pretentious or making fun of homage videos, and the nouve rich, that was insightful too - thank you!
I have 3 orient watches including the Bambino and your right, its one of the best for looks and quality in the price range.I wear it more than my others, Rolex, Movado, Rado and others. Thanks, for doing such a terrific job, I always enjoy watching and listening to your reviews. Always learn a lot. RegardsTD
Your videos helped me with my first automatic watch purchase last week. A Seiko SKX007J1 and it's been great. I want to thank you for the insight. Thanks!
Thank you for your recommendations. I'm in the process of building my collection. My first will be here tomorrow, Seiko SNA411. I wrote down all of these, to purchase periodically. Will give my input as they arrive.
Probably one of your greatest videos. Immensely helpful... Very different from what you usually see in those recommendation videos and helped me very much! Thank you... Your channel is my go to and your knowledge of the market is incredible and priceless.
Just received my Orient Bambino in the mail yesterday, excellent watch! Although I opted for the FER24005W0 variant, your Bambino review made me pull the trigger. Beautiful piece, worth every penny (plus Amazon had a pretty good sale on it too).
I just bought myself an orient bambino gen 2 after watching this vid! I'm not a fan of diver style watches and really like the elegance of this particular watch. Thank you urban gentry for turning me onto this beautiful piece
The Kershaw Leek knife. Been a long time since I've opened a package with mine. I always forget I own it, until I see someone using one to open a package like at the beginning of this video. As always, great upload.
This video made me buy the Seiko SKX009. My first entry level enthusiast watch. Thank you for the recommendation! I might pick up the Orient Bambino in the near future.
As a Watch Novice, I have learned so much from these videos. I just ordered a Seiko SKX and am fired up to get it. I also went really cheap and got a couple timex's for about $50 each. It is great to know that you can get quality for reasonable prices. I am beginning to shop for a good dress watch. I want to keep it around $1000 and have it something that I can leave to my kids someday, something that they can look at and think of their old Daddy... Still have a lot research to do
Great video! You convinced me to order a SKX007. I Just received it today and couldn't be happier. I also ordered a few nato straps and really like the combination. Keep up the good work!
You will never go wrong with a Seiko, Citizen, or/and Orient.

Firstly, thank you for this video and your ideas! So, my choice is Seiko SNZG13. You can buy it under 100 bucks with nylon strap or a few buck higher with stainless steel bracelet. I absolutely love it for every day wearing and even swimming.
I Think the Seiko 5 series would make place in a top 10 video :) I really think you did a great job, TGV. Always something new to learn every time I log on.
The first mechanical watch that I purchased was an Seiko SKX 173 and in many ways, it immediately fit all of my needs. It has a classic look that fits when I'm wearing a suit and it's rugged enough to be on my wrist during any activity from swimming to cycling to gardening. It's still my go-to watch even though I've added several nicer pieces to the collection.
+imbok Fanatastic choice, thats the midsize to the SKX007 right? I adore that one. I had one once too. That extra little arrow on the end of the second hand and its compact size made it PURE CLASS. Another one to add to my list of regret watch sales! LOL Enjoy it my friend and wear it in good health for me! Thank you for sharing, Best regards, TGV
love the skx007 and skx009. nato strap or the strap code steel bracelets are the way to go. I wish seiko would make a sapphire glass version for $75 more.
FANTASTIC UPLOAD!! When you included the Marathon Navigator in this list, I couldn't help to think about something... Would a robust quartz be better suited to military use, not just for accuracy, but to avoid the risk of damaging the internals due to recoil from firearms? I know many famous autos have served in past conflicts or at least have an interesting story (Rolex, Seiko, Blancpain, etc...) . As you're a military history aficionado, I think fans of your channel would love to see you pull together something on this topic... a history of important watches in the military type thing.
+Andrew Poon Thank you Andrew, EXCELLENT idea, I will have to do much research and really prep that one. I have noted it down and will see what I come up with. Best regards, TGV P.s. New vids up now! ;-)
Great video. It was the SKX007 that started my collection. It is a watch I always go back to. For the money the best entry level automatic diver. Tough and has a discrete style to it that I really like.
+David Childs Thank you David, thats a very cool place to start and the fact you still have it is even cooler. I completely agree, simply unbeatable. Best regards, TGV
After your Seiko v. Orient duel, I decided to buy my son an SKX for his 18th birthday. He's been "over the moon" with it as you say. Glad it's your favorite; that'll make him proud indeed! Congrats again on 10K.
+TeamLotus6365 Fantastic! Thats the PERFECT watch to give an 18 year old. Solid, reliable, will take the punishment of adolescent youth, tasteful, very nicely done TL! Thank you for sharing that. Best regards, TGV
Honestly one of the best watch review videos I've seen lately, good analysis of the merits of the watches. I'm a big fan of Orient's watches, my personal favourites being their flieger watches which combine style and utility at a great price. This video has piqued my interest in the bambino though, I'd quite like a watch with a more traditional look for formal occasions. My latest watch is the Skagen SKW6025. It's quite thin and light which makes it very comfortable for everyday wear and it's got a nice minimalist style dial which I find attractive.
Fantastic video, it is funny, I have a higher end diver , and yet watching this makes me want to add one of theses true classics, especially the Seiko. Your choices are spot on.
+Gary Dorning Thank you Gary, Its funny I feel exactly the same way editing my own video LOL, I am seriously considering getting a SKX and modding the hell out of it, a TGV special edition, different hands, bezel, dail, maybe even TGV engraving, could really be fun and something special to the collection. Best regards, TGV
#1 only as a dress watch? which one of these would you recommend as a daily driver ? thinking bout the seiko skx007 or the bambino ..great video, thank you !
I've had two Orient Blue Rays, and I find no negatives with this watch, in style, size, reliability, comfort...I always feel that this piece is the epitome of affordable, understated elegance and utility. But I was also intrigued by that Navigator. Have to check that out!
I purchased a Black Ray 2 and immediately slapped on a 22mm bond Blushark NATO strap. I absolutely adore this watch and I find myself leaving behind powerhouses such as my Omega SMP, Speedmaster and Aquaracer just so that I can get some more wrist time with it. I love the black dial. It just looks so classy. Yes, these Orients do indeed punch far above their weight class. You know we live in a golden age of watch making when we can purchase such a quality piece with an in house movement for so little money. Swatch group better take note because these Japanese watch makers are doing everything right!
I have to agree on your choice of the Orient Bambino. I have the Bambino 3 with the grey dial and it's on of my favorites. I wear it several times each week on a nato strap. The strap size is a bit odd, but a 20 mm strap works fine.
under 100.00 Vostok Komandirske or Amphibian. a great inexpensive watch to collect with sturdy mechanical movements and a wide variety of military and diver dials to choose from. they make fantastic gifts too .
I have an issued VietNam marathon and love it still. I have a Seiko Orange Monster and a system 5 blk monster and love Seiko. They are such a good value. I think both the Orients you show will be on my "gottahave" list. That Bambino is utterly splendid. Your Swatch? I dont think I would ever wear that thing if you gave it to me! great list tho!
Excellent top 5 video TGV! Such a nice variety of affordable choices. Can't agree with you more on the SKX007! I actually bought my own SKX after seeing one of your videos. Love it! Keep up the good work and take care. Kind regards, Jack.
Great channel. Always thought that Watch Collecting was only for the Rich. Love that your reviews range from inexpensive well built watches to high end luxury pieces. With a Budget under $2,000, you've inspired me to get into collecting more seriously. Thanks and keep up the good work!!
Great video, thanks! I just got an Orient Flight and discovered how great the brand Orient is. My next pick will be a diver, deciding between the Seiko SKX and the Orient Ray, they seem quite similar. Thanks again.
Five excellent choices. That Swatch technology is impressive, although the styling is a little too funky for me. The 007 is my daily wearer and number one choice. Good concise report there TGV.
now this got me going for affordables aside from my seiko 5. gonna get the bambino as a start and then the sistem51. huge huge help for a noob like me!
Love this review! Great grist for a horo-newbie like me. Bought the SKX and fell in love. Fabulous watch for the $. In fact, I went overboard and bought Seiko automatics for the entire family, to be delivered at Christmas. Presage for the ladies, SKX for the men. Started stewing over a SARB033 but then found the SDGM003 at twice the price. What to do, what to do... Yet another Seiko, or dive in on a Squale? Think I'll stick with the dress watch idea.
+Tim Majni Hi Tim, so glad to hear you got the SKX, such a great place to start you can't go wrong. Wow, christmas is going to be amazing for your family, love it! Good luck and thanks for sharing, keep me posted. Best regards, TGV P.s. New vids up now! ;-)
Hi TGV, Great video. I have owned a SKXA35 for many years and love it. I'm now looking for a SKX009 but don't know which version. I know they come in a 009j, 009K, and a 175. Is one better than the other? Thanks for your help, Wayne
As an Orient nut I certainly agree with your selections but I would also give a shout out to their "Producer" dress model which is retro rectangular with open heart. In black dial very classy and different for under $200.
Other than the Swatch, I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment on value oriented analog watches. Surprised Citizen didn't make the list like the Promaster series for example. I love my Orient Rays(black ray, black ray raven, and the new Mako with sapphire glass). My next acquisition is the Bambino. Thanks for this list. Thumbs up!

What an awesome video. I own some Seiko and I've got to say, they are great time pieces. I love the Seiko SK009K2, but my wrist is thin - around 48mm -, so the watch looks too big for me. I'm now between an Orient Ray and a Orient Mako. What do you think about the Mako? Any comments?
without sounding like an idiot, i would like to ask how do you feel about Invicta watches? many of their models fall under the $200 mark... TGV, your thoughts on this...? also, great vids. please keep them coming.
Aside from the SKX, I would also throw in the Seiko 5, phenomenal mechanical movement, and a variety of dial choices makes it appealing for people looking for both a sports watch or a dress watch. Great list.
+Timepiece Addict I agree, had this been a top 10, I am sure Seiko would of dominated and a Seiko 5 would be in there. Great input, thank you. Best regards, TGV
Totally agree with your sentiment on the Orient models in your top five. I have a blue Mako and it provides a lot of bang for the buck. In-house movement, good quality and looks. I believe Invicta offer a lot for the watch collector on a limited budget too. I recently purchased an Invicta 8926OB for a lot less than $200 (including import tax to the UK) and the non-solid bracelet end links aside, it is a great piece and amazing value for money. It is a Submariner homage admittedly but this is no bad thing in my view. It runs the Seiko NH35A S11 24 jewel automatic movement with hacking seconds which is nicely decorated and I really have to question whether high-end (tier 4 and above) watches are worth the extra cost comparatively. I also recently purchased a limited edition Invicta 16531RCLBR Pro Diver, number 101 of just 985 pieces. it runs a Swiss Ronda Z60 Quartz Chronograph movement and like the 8926OB, offers a lot of watch for the money. It is a specially made piece for Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas Cruise ship, a Ship I've really enjoyed spending a two-week Baltic capital cruise on with my better half Tracy. Why limited 985 pieces? That's the total length of the Brilliance of the Seas ship. MRSP is $1495 but duty free I bagged it for just £299; that's 80% off! It came with a three watch Invicta pelican case too which I like. Living in the States as you do TGV, I'd be interested to hear your view on Invicta as a USA based company. I have a huge, varied range of circa 50 watches (I really need to do a proper inventory) from Breitling down to an old Seiko 5, quartz and Kinetics so I am confident that my views are accurate when it comes to quality. Within my collection I also have a Marc & Sons MSD-020 Professional Diver rated at 100 ATM (1000m / 3300ft). It runs a Myota 8012 automatic movement and is another fantastic watch from a micro-brand based in Germany. At £190 or circa $280, it's a great value, quality piece. My most recent purchase is a citizen Signature Grand Touring Sport model NB1031-53E black face. This retails at $1195 US but I bought it duty free from the Jewellery shop on-board Brilliance of the Seas for just $776.75 (35% discount) and I haven't been able to find the same model anywhere for less. This is an epic piece in my view and is getting a lot of wrist time. Superb quality; decorated Myota 9012 automatic movement, 28,800bph, excellent double anti-reflective coating both sides of the sapphire crystal and beautifully finished including the bracelet. Quality wise, I think it's up there with the Omega 2803.52.37 Railmaster I once owned and I have to question why I would spend $3.5k on such a time piece again? Yes, the Omega ran a CSOC automatic Coaxial movement but was no less accurate from new and it developed a random dead-stopping fault soon after the manufacturer's warranty ran out :-( I am starting to question the credibility on spending $ thousands on a high end timepiece... Although I still adore my Breitling B13352 Chronomat Bi-Colour s/steel & 18K gold which I purchased new back in 2003. It is an expensive piece to service, especially as it runs only the top grade CSOC ETA Valjoux 7750 movement (and not the more modern in-house). Having said that, I'm a great fan of ETA movements; the main reason why I love my Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT and my OVM V2. Keep up with the great videos TGV! And I'd love to hear from you if you have time to respond.
+xjsteve Amazing comment, so much to talk about here and great points made I don't know where to start!!! Thank you for taking the time to share that, Best regards, TGV
Great video! would you consider the marathon to be significantly tougher than the seiko 009? I love the style of the seiko but I'm going to be wearing this every day and while mountain biking and skiing.
Awesome videos, and very informative. I bought my first watch a few days ago based on this video and a few other of your videos. Orient Bambino FER24001B0 Black dial, rose gold, first version. Incredible watch, I absolutely love it! Keep up the great videos and Thank you very much!
I've got to go with the Seiko Black Monster, either the 1st gen SKX779 or the 2nd gen SRP307 with improved movement. Its a bit more "off-beat" than the SKX007, and is an icon in its own right. Honorable mention goes to the solar powered Seiko SSC series, either the 015 or 021.
+Jonny Casual Totally agree, I have a Black Monster on my want list. so many other 'Divers' look similar to the SKX007 / 009 yet the Black Monster isn't trying to mimic anything else. It is an individual design and all the better for it.
Seiko is my choice. I'll buy one for me in the near future. There's also a great divers watch from Citizen automatic with sapphire crystal for less than $200.
I would recommend Seikos SNKD99K1. Legendary Seiko 5 watch in a good sporty casual case and a nice dark blue sunburst dial. For a bit dressier one I would offer Seikos SRP705K1. Very well made classic design with a nice ivory dial and gold colored arabic numerals.
Orient Bambino Bauhaus style is beautiful. So much better than junghans for a ridiculous price tag. The Bambino £200 estimate but junghans max bill £2000 estimate. Btw great channel, the only channel I watch for watch knowledge.
I just found an underrated masterpiece that fits here, the Citizen Stilleto, a 5 mm thin solar power GORGEOUS dress watch, in my opinion the orient bambino is preventing many people from actually exploring other options within this price range
I can't argue with the choices here, but I also agree with Johnny, I love my Seiko Monster. I own the 2nd gen Orange Monster. I love the heck out of it.
Hard to argue with your selection. The marathon is incredible for the price since you get around 100$ of tritium tubes for a 200$ watch and you get to experience the best lume there is. The bambino is a sure choice too. The seiko snk snzh are very good ans some micro brands are worth the money. There are some very nice junkers pilots around those prices too. In the last week I got a mint padi new turtle in pepsi bezzle for 140$ in a local ad so it's worth to check for used watches too. 140$ for a srpa21 is a lot of watch for the money (including a good bracelet) and I upgraded the crystal for a double domed sapphire.
Hi TGV Hi all, Siko SKX007 &009 are my choice.. what about the SKX011(orange)? i did not see much reviews or opinions about! can you help me on this? I bought the 007 then i couldent wait for more than 2 weeks to buy the 009.. they are really wonderful in all ways except the bracelet, but i do enjoy both on the NATO's.
I have the original version of the Orient Bambino with a White Dial and a Gold Case and I think that it really gives the Patek Philippe Calatrava with the ivory dial a run for the money. Real class for a fraction of the cost. I have other Orients, but the Bambino is still my favorite.
Frankly I like, and agree will all of your choices. I do however own two Bambino's, so I guess that qualifies as my favorite. I now "must get" a Marathon Navigator.
+William Delmar Glad to hear, can't go wrong with the Bambino, maybe the best bang per buck watch of all time. Thanks for sharing, good luck with the Navigator! Best regards, TGV
I took the Orient ray diving down in cozumel this summer and it held up beautifully at 100ft below the surface. I had some worries because the watch's depth rating was never officially certified, but those have since been laid to rest.
Your review is excellent, and I agree with your ratings. The Orient is a pretty amazing little watch. A young gentleman would do well to get an Orient when he starts a new job. Also, I suggest you change your background music to soft, low instrumental so as to not distract from your comments. I want to hear what you have to say, not attend an opera.
Quartz was not mentioned. My pick would be the Citizen Eco Drive. I like the military field watch at less than $195, but there are several others in the under $200 range. The strong points are superb accuracy plus the convenience of solar charging. These are very handsome yet very practical timepieces.
While I like the Bambino very much, I'll probably get the Seiko 5 dress watches as my next watches, and first automatics. Usually when people talk about Seiko 5s, it's the divers, pilots or sport lines, but the dress watch lines have this minimalist look to them, similar to DW, MVMT, Etc. Put a leather strap on a Seiko 5 dress watch, and you'll have a dress watch that looks every bit as good as the fashion watches, for much cheaper than they retail, and much better quality. BTW, I finally subscribed a few minutes ago! Thanks for everything!
The Timex Weekend Oversized Chrono would be one of my favorites in under 200 usd. It comes in at about 79 usd. The deep blue dial with the tan Nato strap is a really good combination!
I own 3 of the watches you reviewed. Currently have the Marathon watch. Have gone through two of the automatic Seikos. Will not buy another one. Both watches lasted less than a year of normal wear. Just quit working. I really like the Marathon's self luminous hands. Though I wish the crystal was a little more scratch resistant. Good video.
I would like to hear your opinion before I buy a watch. What is the best option: Casio era-300DB, Seiko SNA411p1 or Citizen Eco Drive AT4000-02E, they are all in the same price group. I want to buy all of them but in that case my girlfriend would probably killed me :) she doesn't understand my passion. I should pick one but I can't decide so please help me.
Do you think it will be a good idea to wear the seiko SK or Orient divers casually. For instance the orient rays or MAKO? I like them because they look cool and stylish, not that I really want to take them out to the waters.
I would whole heartedly agree with the Seiko SKX series of divers watches. They are tough and are ISO 6425 rated. I would also recommend any of the Seiko 5 series. I love the SNK807. The color blue of the dial and the strap. Also it is a field/pilots style watch, so it is very legible. Just so happens that both the SKX007/009 and the SNK80X series are powered by Seiko's workhorse 7S26 movement.
+The Urban Gentry Thank you for replying TGV :) My impression on this watch is that it looks better on the wrist than in pictures. It has a pretty good blue lume but perhaps not as good as Seiko's. The watch itself is reliable and accurate, and has a smooth screw down crown. I have the one with a rubber strap and the strap is pretty stretchy compared to Seiko's, which I guess is helpful when wearing diver's suit. Also, the lug width is 23mm which makes changing bands a bit tricky. The watch has a good weight and is comfortable to wear as a daily driver. Overall a great watch for the money and IMO a solid option when looking for a japanese diver's watch. I hope this helps :) -Pras
I mention the Seiko SSC017 Solar Chrono diver. I bought mine at a huge retailer several years ago for much less than $200, and it looks fantastic on a black Nato with blue and grey regimental stripes. Of those you recommend, I am most intrigued by the Swatch. I'm sure growing up in the 1980s and having then worn a bright red and green Swatch is part of my interest. Also, I think the Bambino is a must have for those of us who are more sports watch oriented, but want a great looking dress piece. -David
+Rocky Mountain DT Thank you David! I really like the SSC017, If I could pull off wearing a bigger watch I would have one. Amazing bang per buck and solid as a tank. Haha love the retro swatches, you were bang on, I had many growing up. Great comment as always, cheers. Best regards, TGV
I just bought a grant chronograph fossil watch. It's an analog with a leather band. It cost me $145 and is probably the best looking casual watch I own.
seiko did a really nice sub £200 range called the seiko knight. it has the work horse 7s26 in them. they ran from 2002 to 2006 came in black, white or orange dial and in automatic, quartz and kinetic flavours. it has a integrated bracelet but what a bracelet it is. lovely watches, now quite collectable. cheers
I completely agree with you regarding the SKX009. But I just don't like the jubilee bracelet, I think this i where Seiko really cut the corners and saved some money. But put the bad boy on a NATO or a rubber strap and it's a great looking beater :)
My Orient Mako is my trusty everyday piece. I actually have 2. The original black Mako that I use and beat up at work everyday and the new Mako USA that I keep clean and buy leather straps for. It's a beautiful tough watch and it keeps excellent time. Only 1 minute ahead per week. I couldn't recommend it enough.
I have a question for the TGV. I just recently purchased an SKA369. Love it Love it Love it. Looks Amazing to have that chunk of fine Japanese steel on my wrist, and mind you I have an omega sea master chronograph which now will have some shelf time lol. Here is the question, I am looking to get my wife a dive watch she could wear on a daily basis. Any suggestions? I was hoping seiko had some female dive watches. Can you help me pick out one for my wife?
Thanks!
Excellent video! This should become a series: Top 5 Under {$200, $500, $1000, ...}
+Hector Villafuerte YESSSS!!! Excellent idea, will do it soon, thank you.
Best regards,
TGV
+The Urban Gentry In that case you should maybe do 200-500, 500-1000 etc.
I could see Netflix buying him to do a show for them but then I would not watch because of the Bias out there
Thank you for your recommendations. I'm in the process of building my collection. My first will be here tomorrow, Seiko SNA411. I wrote down all of these, to purchase periodically. Will give my input as they arrive.
I am a 72 yr old man. Just started collecting watch pieces.
Love your channel I bought 3 watches you recommend this year 2017.
Keep up the good work.
NEVER too late to start.
It pleases me no end to hear you have started this journey, enjoy it!
Thank you Peter,
Best regards,
TGV
Probably one of your greatest videos. Immensely helpful... Very different from what you usually see in those recommendation videos and helped me very much! Thank you... Your channel is my go to and your knowledge of the market is incredible and priceless.
Excellent choices! Need to try out a Sistem51 myself!
+555 Gear Thank you Andrew. seriously considering adding one too
Best regards,
TGV
+555 Gear +The Urban Gentry I reviewed one, very impressed.
Just received my Orient Bambino in the mail yesterday, excellent watch!
Although I opted for the FER24005W0 variant, your Bambino review made me pull the trigger. Beautiful piece, worth every penny (plus Amazon had a pretty good sale on it too).
+MihaiRUdeRO Haha! Perfect timing!
So glad to hear, enjoy it my friend.
Thank you for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
Love my skx workhorse. 14 years old, never been serviced and keeps better time than most of my Swiss pieces.
+Jon Rout Thats what I'm talking about!!!! Nice one Jon, thanks for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
I just bought myself an orient bambino gen 2 after watching this vid! I'm not a fan of diver style watches and really like the elegance of this particular watch. Thank you urban gentry for turning me onto this beautiful piece
The Kershaw Leek knife. Been a long time since I've opened a package with mine. I always forget I own it, until I see someone using one to open a package like at the beginning of this video. As always, great upload.
Thank you Jeremy, love the leek!!!
Best regards,
TGV
Wish assisted open was legal in Australia :(
This video made me buy the Seiko SKX009.
I'm delighted to know I already own one on this list! (The sistem 51) I have my eye on 2 others. Great video.
Really enjoyed this video TGV and I own a system 51 in black and I absolutely love it and I've been thinking about getting a orient.
LOL
Enjoy it my friend and wear it in good health for me!
Thank you for sharing,
Best regards,
TGV
love the skx007 and skx009. nato strap or the strap code steel bracelets are the way to go.
I wish seiko would make a sapphire glass version for $75 more.
another awesome list TGV... you turned me on to the Bambino...thanks to you these things are harder to find in the flavor I want!
Thank you George,
Best regards,
TGV
I have two of those. Orient Ray and Swatch S 51 good picks.

P.s. New vids up now! ;-)
I have the SKX009 & it is an awesome diver for daily use. Cannot fault it.

So glad to her, enjoy them! Great watches!!! Thank you.

+Frank Feingold Fantastic to hear, enjoy it my friend!

under 100.00 Vostok Komandirske or Amphibian.
a great inexpensive watch to collect with sturdy mechanical movements and a wide variety of military and diver dials to choose from. they make fantastic gifts too .
Nice selection. This is the first time I've heard about the Swatch. I didn't know they made automatics now. Thank you.
+Underfighter73 Thank you :D Its relatively new.

Excellent top 5 video TGV! Such a nice variety of affordable choices. Can't agree with you more on the SKX007! I actually bought my own SKX after seeing one of your videos. Love it! Keep up the good work and take care.
Kind regards,
Jack.
+Jack Karlsson Thank you Jack. So glad to hear, can't beat and SKX, wear it with pride and enjoy it.

+somerville99 Thank you my friend,

now this got me going for affordables aside from my seiko 5. gonna get the bambino as a start and then the sistem51. huge huge help for a noob like me!
+Tim Majni Hi Tim,
so glad to hear you got the SKX, such a great place to start you can't go wrong.
Wow, christmas is going to be amazing for your family, love it!
Good luck and thanks for sharing, keep me posted.

Hi TGV,
Great video. I have owned a SKXA35 for many years and love it. I'm now looking for a SKX009 but don't know which version. I know they come in a 009j, 009K, and a 175. Is one better than the other?
Thanks for your help,
Wayne
As an Orient nut I certainly agree with your selections but I would also give a shout out to their "Producer" dress model which is retro rectangular with open heart. In black dial very classy and different for under $200.
+Brian Hinder Nice choice! I had no idea they were selling for that low,
Great recommendation thank you!
Best regards,
TGV
Best regards,
TGV
Yes, the Omega ran a CSOC automatic Coaxial movement but was no less accurate from new and it developed a random dead-stopping fault soon after the manufacturer's warranty ran out :-(
I am starting to question the credibility on spending $ thousands on a high end timepiece...
Thank you for taking the time to share that,
Best regards,
TGV
Great video! would you consider the marathon to be significantly tougher than the seiko 009? I love the style of the seiko but I'm going to be wearing this every day and while mountain biking and skiing.
Awesome videos, and very informative. I bought my first watch a few days ago based on this video and a few other of your videos. Orient Bambino FER24001B0 Black dial, rose gold, first version. Incredible watch, I absolutely love it! Keep up the great videos and Thank you very much!
Just bought a skx and a orient bambino to start my watch collection, thanks for the recommendations! :)
+Anton Öhman Great choices!
A fantastic place to start, enjoy them and welcome to the journey!
Best regards,

I got an Orient Mako, probably going to buy a Bambino too as a dress watch. But what watch would you recommend as a Sports watch?
I've got to go with the Seiko Black Monster, either the 1st gen SKX779 or the 2nd gen SRP307 with improved movement. Its a bit more "off-beat" than the SKX007, and is an icon in its own right.
Honorable mention goes to the solar powered Seiko SSC series, either the 015 or 021.
+Jonny Casual
Totally agree, I have a Black Monster on my want list. so many other 'Divers' look similar to the SKX007 / 009 yet the Black Monster isn't trying to mimic anything else. It is an individual design and all the better for it.
+Jonny Casual
I agree with going with Seiko'snew movement over ythe 7s26/36 models.
+Jonny Casual Off-beat to you, is just plain ugly to me. 007/009 any day.
Brian Gallagher
Cool. Viva la difference.
Thank you for the video, very good ideas here. Orient black ray is the best one imo - very versatile
Seiko is my choice. I'll buy one for me in the near future. There's also a great divers watch from Citizen automatic with sapphire crystal for less than $200.
+Ana Isidro Excellent recommendation, I certainly will look more into Citizen,
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
You are a man of rituals . For me , the Orient Symphony .
Awesome video! I'm going to buy a Seiko SKX009 but I saw that exists another version called SKX175... which one is better to purchase? Thanks
THE channel ive been looking for and awesome episode. i appreciate the research on the watches even the affordable ones
Thank you so much Ashley, very glad to hear.
Best regards,

Hi, I was wondering if you could suggest what would be better between the Orient Bambino or the Camden no. 29?
I can't argue with the choices here, but I also agree with Johnny, I love my Seiko Monster. I own the 2nd gen Orange Monster. I love the heck out of it.
+Michael Clonts Thank you!
I also like the Monster too, came so close to pulling the trigger so many times, enjoy it!
Best regards,
TGV
man your are the best watch reviewer
Sure swatch is technically genius, but why did they have to make it fuckugly..? It'd be much more desirable if it had a beautiful design
tatskamies check out the irony versions of them, real stunners.
tatskamies check out so of the ones of bracelets they look much better
Swatch has some very pretty automatics. I visited their store to get a free battery installed (for life), and checked them out. Nice.
Brother , Hipsters need watches too . They go well with their boots , manbuns , skinny jeans and I-Macs .
What a great top five set! I like everyone of these! I'm hesitant to jump into Orient watches but I've yet to hear anything bad about them.
+A Page Thank you! Very kind of you to say. As for Orient, take the plunge my friend, great fun reliable watches.
Best regards,
TGV
Hi TGV
Hi all,
Siko SKX007 &009 are my choice..
what about the SKX011(orange)? i did not see much reviews or opinions about! can you help me on this?
I bought the 007 then i couldent wait for more than 2 weeks to buy the 009.. they are really wonderful in all ways except the bracelet, but i do enjoy both on the NATO's.
I have the original version of the Orient Bambino with a White Dial and a Gold Case and I think that it really gives the Patek Philippe Calatrava with the ivory dial a run for the money. Real class for a fraction of the cost. I have other Orients, but the Bambino is still my favorite.
Thank you Joseph, enjoy it! The first gen were stunning.
Best regards,
TGV
Frankly I like, and agree will all of your choices. I do however own two Bambino's, so I guess that qualifies as my favorite. I now "must get" a Marathon Navigator.
+William Delmar Glad to hear, can't go wrong with the Bambino, maybe the best bang per buck watch of all time. Thanks for sharing, good luck with the Navigator!
Best regards,
TGV
I took the Orient ray diving down in cozumel this summer and it held up beautifully at 100ft below the surface. I had some worries because the watch's depth rating was never officially certified, but those have since been laid to rest.
Skx007 my favorite. And will add the 009 to my collection as well.
+Diego Kartodikromo A worthy favorite indeed, thank you Diego.
Best regards,
TGV
I enjoy your show and thank you for the information and thorough and crystal clear presentation on each episode,,,
+evikag Thank you so much, very kind of you to say :D

+Rohan Shah Niiice!
Great recommendation, thanks for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
Great video, nice selection of possible choices. I must say I will have to have a look at the Sistem 51. Cheers.
+Bob FromBrisbane Thank you Bob!
Best regards,

Great video... just wondering what are your thoughts on the Parnis Portugese ? Seems like it´s a big hit in the under 200 dollar category. Thanks!
Do you think it will be a good idea to wear the seiko SK or Orient divers casually. For instance the orient rays or MAKO? I like them because they look cool and stylish, not that I really want to take them out to the waters.
Orient Bambino is the best for sure. BTW... Would you recommend Stuhrling brand...and which models?
I would whole heartedly agree with the Seiko SKX series of divers watches. They are tough and are ISO 6425 rated. I would also recommend any of the Seiko 5 series. I love the SNK807. The color blue of the dial and the strap. Also it is a field/pilots style watch, so it is very legible. Just so happens that both the SKX007/009 and the SNK80X series are powered by Seiko's workhorse 7S26 movement.
Great video TGV. I have the Citizen Promaster BN0100 "Excalibur", it's a sleek diver's watch and i love it
+Pras Hutomo Thank you, I have to say I LOVE the look of that Citizen, VERY slick indeed.
Please tell me more, I am intrigued.
Best regards,

+The Urban Gentry
Thank you for replying TGV :)
My impression on this watch is that it looks better on the wrist than in pictures.
I hope this helps :)
-Pras
Wilson Combat/Bernhardt field diver. If you like the aggressive look.
A shout out to the Orient Curator. In house movement, power reserve meter and sapphire crystal for about $150
+Hugh Jarce Very nice! Great choice, thanks for sharing,

I just bought a grant chronograph fossil watch. It's an analog with a leather band. It cost me $145 and is probably the best looking casual watch I own.
seiko did a really nice sub £200 range called the seiko knight. it has the work horse 7s26 in them. they ran from 2002 to 2006 came in black, white or orange dial and in automatic, quartz and kinetic flavours. it has a integrated bracelet but what a bracelet it is. lovely watches, now quite collectable. cheers
They were very nice. Looked like a more dressy diver. You are right about them being tough to find. Very rarely show up for sale.
+somerville99 I have been looking for the past year and only managed to pick up one, a black kinetic knight. cheers
+mulberrybush1967 filmfan! I will have to check that one out, not familiar with that one.
Thank you!

I completely agree with you regarding the SKX009. But I just don't like the jubilee bracelet, I think this i where Seiko really cut the corners and saved some money. But put the bad boy on a NATO or a rubber strap and it's a great looking beater :)
Thank you, LOVE it on a nato! Having said that, funny you mention it, you should check what I put it on in today's video ;-)

I am looking to buy a watch. I never worn or owned a watch before. I want to get something decent for $ 200, what watch would you recommend?
My Orient Mako is my trusty everyday piece. I actually have 2. The original black Mako that I use and beat up at work everyday and the new Mako USA that I keep clean and buy leather straps for. It's a beautiful tough watch and it keeps excellent time. Only 1 minute ahead per week. I couldn't recommend it enough.
+chavo8891 Fantastic, really glad to hear and thank you for sharing that.

Good choice. I would go with the Orient Ray in blue. But I'm definitely going to check out the Swatch automatics!
+Claus-L. Müller (CLMac66) Great choice. Love Swatch, they are such fun.
