  • Hi everyone,
It's Jess here again. And welcome or welcome back to my channel.
Today's video is a tutorial for a Vintage wrap dress that you can wear for your daily outfit or even wear to work.
To make this dress, pleas check out my basic information below:
    Sewing machine: Merrit Joyful Sewing
    Material: 3m of cotton fabric
My body measurements: 82-64-92. I'm 165cm and usually wear Small size
This dress can be apply with different material. But it works the best with cotton fabric. You also can make it shorter if you want to have a little active look.
I love sewing and learn it by myself. So some parts of my sewing techniques might be totally correct if you look at it in the professional way. However, it works for me. So I hope it'll work for you too.

This is a super cute dress, I still have some fabric I wanted to make a wrap dress with. Just a tip, though, when pinning the gathered skirt to the waist, you should always mark the middle first and pin it to the center point of the waist. Then the outsides, and then the mid points between the center and the outsides and so on... That way you ensure that the gathered fabric is laid out evenly. If you start from the sides, you may end up adding too much fabric on one side and it'll look crooked. That's what we learned in sewing class at least :)

I just made this out of a beautiful $2 thrifted floral bedsheet and it’s stunning!! I really appreciate the way you measure out the patterns so it can fit anyone! This was my first time not having to seam rip portions apart 😊 Thank you for all your videos! On to making another one of your dresses 💕

I have just started self-learning how to sew in the last month or so and your video tutorials have been a blessing! Thank you so so much making it accessible to everyone! Other channels explained things confusingly or provided patterns you have to pay for, which are both barriers at the moment. I am trying to make a dress for my sister for CNY as she's a dragon and this video has been my hero.
Thank you thank you thank you!
PS: You are so beautiful inside and outside!!! You look amazing in everything you wear too.

Such a pretty dress! Clean and fresh lines for summer. It looks so nice on you! It takes me right back to the 70s when I first learned how to sew. I think I'll make one for myself 🙂 I hope I'm not too old for this style now. Thanks for the video ❤️🙏

Well, my first search for this diy pattern turned up you, Jess, and I’m happy to say I think I’ll give your pattern a try. It isn’t the same as the ones I made in the 60s but I think it will be easier and more flattering on my more mature figure. Thank you. I’ll post a picture.

Turned out nicely. I admire your ability to eye the fabric and just turn it under and have it come out right. My mother sewed like that too. Video brought back old memories of her sewing before she died 43 years ago. Thank you.
I have to measure everything, then iron, then pinch and finally stitch.

Back again, now with my new wrap dress! Thrift store poly-cotton duvet cover, perfect! I made some changes for my 5'4 broad hourglass: extended the underarm width of the back and added two stitched darts, lengthened the sleeves, and extended the wrap right across by curving the neckline. Took it down to maxi length and I tie it at the back. I actually found this video last summer but I didn't have the confidence... what a thrill to have finally made it! I'm going to wear it tomorrow. Thanks Jess! 🎉

It’s amazing to see you just doing your own pattern. I have trouble just altering a pattern to fit. I can’t imagine starting from scratch with no pattern. This dress is so cute on you!
I also love the way you finish the sleeve seam as you sew it by making almost a facing for it that covers the seam line. That’s such a neat trick!

  • @missmayflower
    @missmayflower 3 роки тому +1

So pretty! I always press as I sew, after each seam. It’s easier for a beginner to fold and press those hems on the edges before sewing. It makes them flatter and easier to control.

Thank you for loving it! It was my mistake to not show that part clearer. When adding the waistband to connect the top and the skirt part of the dress, I used 2 waistband. So I keep one end of each waistband open at one side of the sideline to create the hole. So I can put one end of the tie through that hole to close the dress when wearing.
