This is so great! I'm building a comp of Santas sleigh flying over the world and really wanted some fog crawling over the water, and this tut worked perfectly.
Hey, great tutorial dude. Thanks for that. May I suggest putting the expressions in the description? That way people can just copy and paste it. Either way, this was the exact effect I was going for. Appreciate it.
the first bit with fractal noise effect was great, but there wasn't enough instructions in the fog effect part, as someone who is new in after effects, i had no idea how to create a mask and cut it like you did
Here's a few tips on how to improve this effect. Under Fractal Noise, change the Fractal type to "Cloud," and under Turbulent Displace, change the displacement to "turbulent smoother." Then, within Turbulent Displace again, find the "evolution" parameter, create a keyframe on the timeline at the beginning of your composition, then go to the end of the composition on your timeline and create another, but this time set the evolution to something like 300.
Also, if you want to use the fog with no background so that you can overlay it onto videos etc, then in your render settings for "Output Module Settings" set your format to Quicktime, then in Video Output, set your "channels" to "RGB+ Alpha" then render. This will render only the fog and nothing else.
file>export>add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue. In Media Encoder change the format to your preference (H264 is for an MP4), make sure the Output File is set to where you want the file to export to, and click the green play button
I have a question - this creates a square for the parameter how do you create something a little more organic with the same effect? Any tips or things to read on?

Thank you for the quick and easy tutorial. Executed perfectly

Amazing, thank you!
tnx bro .
Quick and effective tutorial. If I may provide a note, the UA-cam time bar blocks the AE timeline settings, so I couldn't see what you were typing.

Thanks, really good tutorial. Is there any way to save the effect to reuse later on other projects?
