If I'm getting very high scores, would you still recommend an Oscar review? I've only ever been dunger for length of time, a few times taking off to go to the bathroom, and once for small leakages. I had been fiddling with it often one night. I'm thinking yes because it doesn't really address quality of sleep. Cheers!
I have never met my doctor- don't know who they are. I did a sleep study with a tech that barely spoke to me and I have never interacted with since. They prescribed a machine and set me at 5-15 APAP. I give the DME my SD card, they download it and send it off to the doctor. I started using CPAP in January and my apena was being treated- AHI was 3.5 average, but I wasn't sleeping well because my pressure on APAP mode would blow up to 13-14 CM at night and wake me up. I was miserable! No one would help me. I found this channel and started learning how to read my sleep data. I have an Ibreeze so I downloaded the application and it works. It's not as intuitive or detailed as OSCAR, but gets the job done. I switch my machine's mode to CPAP at 8.5 CM and have zero leaks, I sleep all night and my AHI is normally .07. Thank- you lefty for what you do !! I would have thrown my machine out the window if it wasn't for you and this channel! I really appreciate it! I also dig your corny humor lol! I like ole Niko too! Both of you all have been a big help.
Clarifying question . . . Is this accurate . . . It isn't Oscar or SleepHQ data. It's data captured by an FDA Class II piece of DME that your insurance (if you're lucky) paid for and that requires a prescription to obtain. Oscar/SleepHQ are apps that allow you to look at that data. The equivalent of watching a video using VLC. What app you use to view the data doesn't cheapen or invalidate it. If a medical professional wants to get pissy with me about having the audacity to want to see my own medical information, that's where the actual problem is.
My only sleep study was 20 years ago. I've been with 2 GP's during that time, the current one knows I know more about my usage and cpap stats from OSCAR than he does. He is only concerned with my compliance. When I want to change masks or need a new machine, he takes the info from me and writes up a new script and we move on.
Such a fun video mate. Absolutely love it! Base solo at the end had my in tears bahahahaha. You've got a great attitude and can laugh at yourself. I wish i had that but unfortunately too proud. Cheers
People calling it ”oscar data” doesn’t know what they are talking about. It’s data produced by the cpap machine and oscar is just a viewer software for that.
You make GREAT videos! Are you planning to make a 'detailed' video for us lay CPAP users on how to read the flow rate in OSCAR and identify which are actually OA, CA, H, RERA or just happen to wake up in the middle of night (breathing while awake)? This way we don't look at MyAir results and somehow think we're doing well. Would really find such a video useful and sure others would, too. Thx! Don't think any other "CPAP discussing" UA-camr have made such a video.
Brought in some OSCAR-generated Resmed APAP data to my sleep doc for some specific questions, and not only would he not look at it, he said he had no idea what OSCAR was. Lied right to my face.
All they care about is if your meeting medical cpap complaince ,when i needed a follow up due too mask issues, leaking, whatever they have no technical support , in my view cpap help once you are given the machine your on your own. It’s disgusting its a medical issue if not properly fixed could possibly cause cardiac arrest and many mother health related problems .i agree 110 percent they just want your sleep data .
You seriously have a sense of humor. Ranky Refty ! Never got to show my doc the data he wasn't interested, but said I was doing great on the settings that I had ended up choosing for myself since they set me up with 5 to 20.
I have had no problem with my sleep medicine PA and NP using Oscar Data for 8 years. They don’t really have any alternative. I’ve never lived where the machine could communicate via cell, and I refuse to take my SD card into the DME to get some stupid printout. I print out the last years Oscar data and give it to them. I change my own pressures and settings fairly often, and Oscar makes this obvious, but they never even comment on that. My AHI and leak rates always look great and I think that’s all they care about. They pretend to understand it all, and give me what I want, which is an updated RX for mask of choice, and the ability to make Medicare happy. I say thanks and see you next year.
I showed my sleep doctor my Oscar data and he was clueless. However, I did take it to a respiratory therapist at a DME company and she did know how to interpret it, sort of.
Hey! Jason! I’m a quadriplegic and so sleep only on my back - 8 hours’ish a night. Quads typically end up with problems with apnea for various reasons, as I have. I’ve been using a CPAP for 20’ish years, use the latest model Respironics now. Been a quad for 40+ years, and an engineer for 30+. I know a bit about pressure and volume (PV=nRT), and about anatomy in order to survive this long. Can you do some research and a program on quads with apnea? I normally take my doctor’s input as advice, study the issue, and make decisions on what to do. However, I think there is a lot I don’t know about the science of sleep and apnea, and how to ID areas of concern for mitigation. I suspect my sleep doc isn’t really engaged and concerned about my special situation and is not really reviewing my data. Tend to have marginal sleep/rest, often with a lot of the air escaping issues, aerophagia, combined with typical quadriplegic issues that interfere with sleep - there are many. Will help you if you like. -bdb
I tried to show the physician oscar data and tried to show him the leaks that happen when the pressure was at the 4-20 as he originally prescribed versus the 8 that I set myself. He said he could not look at it. He could only use the software from the manufacturer. I asked him if he could look at the leaks, the pressure ramp up, and corresponding time on the manufacturer's software. I had a list of times where I was awake ( I used to sleep with an ipad so I could quickly note the times when I woke up. He said "his" data doesn't show that kind of detail.
Lamo! That was awesome. I went to my sleep doc for a compliance appointment and vroumy laptop with all my Oscar data, but I got the feeling they wouldn't look at it.
Love your channel! Don't always follow your advice, (use APAP 10-14 and EPR=2, but I sleep GREAT and AHI generally 0.2-1.0) but I have learned A LOT. Very good education. If I was having problems, I'd do a consult with you straight away, but luckily I took to PAP therapy like a duck takes to water and have slept great for 6 years with it. I hang around CPAPtalk also, and I don't get why some criticize you for "running a business", it's weird. You are an expert working in the field, why NOT be entrepreneurial with that. Anyway, also glad you can poke fun at yourself, not only are you very informative, but you're entertaining, to boot! Keep up the great work!
@LankyLefty27. Hey, Jason. I have my annual Sleep Medicine meet with my doctor tomorrow. I have an Airsense 10 and have an SD card, which I use (per your instructions) to look at in OSCAR. My doctor's office can't open my SD card, so how do I give them a link to my OSCAR account so they can see my data? During my last visit, they whined and said, "But how do I send this to insurance for compliance and billing?" They didn't like the OSCAR summary report I gave them either. What should I do? Thanks!
Hey Jason. I really needed this sillyness today while looking for CPAP info. I had a rough night; something went wrong with my 10 Autoset, woke up with heart racing and very disoriented. I think I've figured it out (also thanks to your purchasing tips I have a backup unit). This video was hilarious because I've been watching you for years (we've spoke on phone for a consult) and I get the inside story. I don't like the new guy down under as much cause he's a bit serious, seems judgmental and a bit full of himself. His info is fine, but I need the comic relief and I'm tired of pretentiousness. You're a life saver, no exaggeration buddy. Thanks.
I brought Oscar data to my pulmonologist, who also uses a CPAP. He was extremely happy because I had data he could work with. We sat down and identified changes that needed to be made and what I could do to look at data on my own. Since then my sleep has been so much better. He said he wished more people would bring data.
How did you take your data? I have an appt Jan 28 with sleep center. Not sure how to show it to them. They prob won't care anyway. I've had zero help from them. They'll probably get on my for changing my settings a bunch
I did my my study in 2020…I got the results and the doctor just told me I had mild cause of sleep APNEA and told me my options. I got the CPAC machine and my insurance company sends me my replacement parts. But I have had no follow up if it is improving my health. Since my usage data is in the cloud I thought someone would talk to me about how I felt it was working…but that never happened.
I see my Dr once a year and bring my SD card in. My pulmonologist always says, your numbers look good. I’m always tired and wake up several times each night. I just downloaded OSCAR and see that I have a ton of leaks and RERA’s.
Me too! My doctor isn't interested in why I have so many RERA's a night and said he would prescribe a medicine to make me feel more awake during the day when I complained of always yawning and feeling tired during the day. All he cares about is compliance and that my AHI is low.
Hey Jason, just so you know, not everyone is a fan of Nick-o. I started following him when I first got back to using cpap. I ended up buying in to Sleep HQ premium subscription. I thought getting my nightly cpaap info would be easiest going that direction. Oscar looked intimidating at first. I have since started getting my data into Oscar and it couldn't be easier, even getting my 02 ring data. And I don't need a Sleep HQ 02 ring or a $250 "magic uploader" to get the job done. So thank you for saving me from that by continually recommending Oscar! I could rant further about that other youtube channel but I will spare you those details for now!
I tried the initial free release of SleepHQ but had problems uploading. I gave up. Can't blame anyone for trying to make a living and offering some free advice at the same time. Oscar runs locally and gives me almost instant analysis.
I don’t like how he propagates “as long as you’re below 5 AHI you’re good”. I don’t believe that at all, total BS. Lanky is the only one I’ve heard who actually tries to get it to virtually zero.
Yeah well I've found both the Lanky Lefty and Nicko to be very very helpful on my CPAP journey....Nicko has never put the hard sell on anyone that I'm aware of, it's purely optional. If think if you did go further with your rant you're totally misguided for what is basically a free service.
I was just asking Jason during our visit about how come doctors dont look at this at all (yesterday too). I guess they use generic numbers and say meh yeah pressure 11 looks good. Given the number of people they probably have on them doesn’t allow them to focus on singular patient (which I can understand). Glad Jason around to help look at the details, explain items, make it so you get more value out of the sleep therapy. Jason don’t forget to do a review pad-a-cheek items. Great stuff.
My new sleep doc (a pulmonologist) did look at the Oscar printouts from two nights that I brought in. He helped me but I totally agree about most. Most docs don’t look at the data, only the summary.
@@Freecpapadvice True, but as you said, that is unlikely even though I do bring in the card as well as the whole machine to each appointment. I am going to keep bringing in printouts of a couple of nights (not the whole night, only specific events). That lampoon of your videos was hilarious.
I brought data from SleepHQ to my pulmonologist for my Medicare compliance appointment and he completely ignored the data & my concerns. He looked at ResMed summary data for the previous night (which happened to be about 20 times better than most of the nights before). I was in the exam room for 7 minutes - 2 minutes with the nurse for weight, BP, meds list, 5 minutes with the doc.
Gees..I have an appt Jan 28. I'm sure that will be my case. Will be seeing them since being on Medicare and getting a new machine soon. I bet they won't even want to see my results
I know this is off topic so sorry for that I just wanted to state that Fisher and paykel is becoming more recognized nowadays they showed the full face model 431 on the latest episode of Chicago fire. So I guess they getting a lot more notoriety and that's really good because I think they are better than ResMed when it comes to masks and I heard that new CPAP machine is better also
My doctor and his PA never heard of OSCAR. The doctor said it wasn't approved by FDA so he wasn't interested. The PA was interested but he left the practice so we never discussed details.
Sad that when doctors are young and idealistic.. they probably all went to med school to help people. to heal people. Then somewhere along the way many doctors got retrained to focus on insurance billings... thanks Jason for helping people
I agree, Jason is great! Signed-----Not Jason Being serious just briefly: I honestly don't think it's malicious on the part of the physician. I do think that there is a lack of understanding of how the machines are recording and reporting data. Important decisions are made using poor and misleading information.
Oscar is the only data my doctor has ever used with me. His office only has the software to read ResMed machines. I actually download and supply him with all the data. I had to walk him through some of the data as he was not used to getting that much data with his software. Crazy, right? 🤣🤣🤣
My doctor wants $60 for report data. Wouldn't even give it to my family doc! My machine did not come with an SD card. I was told I coulfnt get the data! I didn't even know about SD card collection until I watched Nick's channel. It's all about the money. So many sleep clinics in my city. Hard to get treatment for other things like narcolepsy. $$$$
Off topic, but we love our Airsense-11 machines. Two complaints, and one issue to be aware of. 1 - The humidifier tub is wider and shallower, easily spilled when filled to max (and you won't care about that) 2 - The Climateline hose extends directly out the back, rather than at 90 degrees, so in addition to the machine being a bit wider (front to back) you have another 3 or 4 inches of clearance needed for the hose. I wish our Airsense-10 hoses were compatible. The issue: A couple of files in the root of the card related to the machine ID changed extensions. Non-issue if you are reading from the SD card directly, but if you are using the Toshiba Flash-Air WiFi card, FlashPAP does not import the new files, so OSCAR can't identify the machine. This doesn't need to be imported every time, I think the new file is "Identification.json", just copy that into the PC's data folder and it works from then on. We've also had a couple of issues of the Toshiba card being wiped after power outages, requiring re-copying the Toshiba config files and program folders.
The pushback against OSCAR makes no sense to me, because isn't it just an information viewer? Similar to DICOM for MRIs, and other medical imaging software? In other words, it's not "creating" or misrepresenting data, it's just presenting it in a more comprehensive manner instead of keeping it all watered down and distilled into a few unhelpful numbers.
Neither my doctor, nor PA discuss my apnea except “AHI and usage are great” They are pulmonologists. I think the sleep clinic is a side hustle for them. Never talk to the techs, except when got new Philips to replace old cancer machine. Once asked about why I got periodic breathing on Oscar. Doctor never heard of it. They’ve also never heard of nasolacrimal air regurgitation from CPAP. Just answered “hmmm, never heard of that” so, I continue to struggle with that. So, basically I’ve got a machine, and that’s it.
Here's a great idea for a video: How do I know when my CPAP therapy is good enough? At some point when Da Vinci was painting the Mona Lisa he stood back and said, "That's good enough, I'm done." You can tweak machine setting, masks, etc. forever. How do I know when further tweaking isn't necessary and I can say that's good enough and think about other things?
I just recently had my sleep data reviewed the doctor said i was doing a great job,i told her i still was bloated and farting out my ass every nite ,she said make appointment and come back on a later day . That’s bullshit fix my issue while im there or atleat try too figure out what too do too correct my issues .
Try asking here, probably wrong spot. If in hospital, o2 level below 90s, mainly 80s. I said I have bi pap. What do I do in hospital? I was put on oxygen. But that had to be increased. Is oxygen the answer? Ty
PRetty much tell you having had a S10 and now S11 (there about the same noise level wise, depending on your pressure of course). Tank wise, s11 holds less than s10. Other than that their both good units. I did have motor go out on my s10 about 2 years old. My wife s9 and my old s9 still work.
The PA who used to review my data was able to pull up graphs almost as detailed as the Sleepyhead program provides (yes, still using Sleepyhead). We were often able to compare day-by-day, minute-by-minute, finding only minor differences between ResMed's physician data and Sleepyhead. Thank God I had access to her as long as I did. She retired during the pandemic. I see her boss now, the head of the department, and he doesn't know how to pull up the data.
You may know what you’re talking about re CPAPs but you video is so disjointed and crazy it’s hard to follow and get any real information from! Too bad I was hoping for help.

I tried, she didn't know about OSCAR then was very demeaning saying I know very little about sleep apnea and she knows way more. Awful experience.
My ENT specialist checks my info and is more than happy to discuss my reports any time
Yes, wife data, she had no clue how go that much detail. Then they wwent to say my wife (considering what i showed Jason yesterday) it’s not

I use padacheek stuff years ago and I liked it a lot
@@af1966 I wish i found it months ago. Random search one day. It’s made a massive difference in my leak rate for Full face mask.
My new sleep doc (a pulmonologist) did look at the Oscar printouts from two nights that I brought in. He helped me but I totally agree about most. Most docs don’t look at the data, only the summary.
Looked at the actual waveforms??? That’s awesome if so. Would love if they downloaded your SD card to OSCAR and gave it a thorough examination.
So I guess they getting a lot more notoriety and that's really good because I think they are better than ResMed when it comes to masks and I heard that new CPAP machine is better also
Your description of yourself made my mind put the 'four seasons' - Who Loves you (1975) in the background lol 😂
My doctor and his PA never heard of OSCAR. The doctor said it wasn't approved by FDA so he wasn't interested.
The PA was interested but he left the practice so we never discussed details.
I watched this just for the memes you made me laugh and thats a good thing
I haven't LOL'd this much in a while, awesome content.
Sad that when doctors are young and idealistic.. they probably all went to med school to help people. to heal people. Then somewhere along the way many doctors got retrained to focus on insurance billings... thanks Jason for helping people
I agree, Jason is great!
Signed-----Not Jason
Being serious just briefly: I honestly don't think it's malicious on the part of the physician.
I love your sense of humor! 😂
Off topic, but we love our Airsense-11 machines.
Two complaints, and one issue to be aware of.
1 - The humidifier tub is wider and shallower, easily spilled when filled to max (and you won't care about that)
2 - The Climateline hose extends directly out the back, rather than at 90 degrees, so in addition to the machine being a bit wider (front to back) you have another 3 or 4 inches of clearance needed for the hose.
As the president of the lanky lefty fan club, I approve this message!
So if we used your service would you tell us what we need to adjust on our cpap or if he need a bipap ect?
That is a very good suggestion Sandy. Great analogy as well!
I just recently had my sleep data reviewed the doctor said i was doing a great job,i told her i still was bloated and farting out my ass every nite ,she said make appointment and come back on a later day . That’s bullshit fix my issue while im there or atleat try too figure out what too do too correct my issues .
Who knew researching CPAP would be so entertaining? Still trying to figure out how to not get a welt on my face from my mask
Try asking here, probably wrong spot. If in hospital, o2 level below 90s, mainly 80s. I said I have bi pap. What do I do in hospital? I was put on oxygen. But that had to be increased. Is oxygen the answer? Ty
BRILLIANT / Your're the Best‼
I haven’t sent oscar data but I did send Jason’s report to my doctor and he was receptive
I can’t wait for the Airsense 11 review. Especially on the topic of its noise vs the 10.
PRetty much tell you having had a S10 and now S11 (there about the same noise level wise, depending on your pressure of course). Tank wise, s11 holds less than s10. Other than that their both good units. I did have motor go out on my s10 about 2 years old. My wife s9 and my old s9 still work.
Cat additions are great. Only one of our cats would allow me to pet her stomach, the rest i would being in ER
6:15 MDs rely on sleep technologists to analyze OSCAR or breath-by-breath data
I don’t know what the heck I just watched. Or what it was about. But frankly I don’t care. It was awesome!!! Hey dad, hit that subscribe button.
Sure... some of these doctors are very knowledgeable. It's just a damned shame so many of them are so disinterested.
🤣🤣🤣 Ranky Refty!!
I found out Pugsy was a she a month after I first joined cpaptalk and chunkyfrog is too I think 😄
How do I connect to see Oscar data?
You upload the data to the Oscar software on your computer. Then do Open profile.
@@njcanuck is there an iOS version of Oscar?
I want to criticize your video just to see a red, angry Satan Jason rebuttle video. PS Love your stuff!
Really nothing better than a rage video.
Doctors don’t look at it because they don’t have time. Same reason they don’t do meal plans for diabetics. They send you to a dietician.
Hilarious
This guy thinks he's funny. It ain't. This is serious stuff. Completely useless.
I think we all see why your wife left you……😬
You may know what you’re talking about re CPAPs but you video is so disjointed and crazy it’s hard to follow and get any real information from! Too bad I was hoping for help.
I agree. I find some good nuggets here and there but find a lot of wasted time in these videos. Can we please focus a bit more?
The boomers over at cpap forums salty af
😂
Fr tho 😂😂😂
