Opossums will leave over time as they get older. Some of them also might not survive until adulthood. Perhaps they were attacked, probably more than once too. Whatever happened this particular little fella seems to be the only one left. I guess it could also be that the mother only had one child, somehow, though these creatures usually have pretty large liters.
I remember we had a beautiful mama opossum take solis under our porch roof once with her single baby during a thunderstorm a few summers ago, we got to give her a little food and she in return gave us a peak of her little baby

That’s not exactly true. Opossums can have extremely varied litter sizes. They can have 10 babies or 1. It’s very possible that she just gave birth to one baby, equally possible the other babies were eaten by a larger animal.
I know that you mean well but most of the time feeding possums and other wildlife is to their detriment. They are pretty bad at recognizing your house and it might end up entering a backyard with dogs that could attack it or an owner that is not as sympathetic to it as you are (it is not uncommon to see possums that were injured by bb guns or other human attacks).
Animals aren’t stupid, they can absolutely tell the difference between houses. That’s just wrong. The main reason you’re not supposed to feed wildlife is they can become dependent upon you for food. Opossums already eat cat food that’s left out. Opossums in cities seek out cat food by smell. Opossums have a varied diet. They also eat snails, ticks, and other pests which are commonly found in gardens. Opossums can live fine out in a forest, but opossums which live within dense cities are already 100% dependent on people for food. Without peoples’ houses they wouldn’t be able to live in cities. Opossums are much slower than raccoons and other city dwelling animals.

Opposums are not vermin, they help create a balance in urban ecosystems. Unfortunately there’s a lot of ignorance about their important role in the environment.

How sweet! The opossum is the most misunderstood animal. They are sweet, cuddly, non aggressive, and affectionate. Yet they have the hardest life.

It’s possible for opossums to give birth to only one baby. It’s pretty uncommon, but it definitely happens.

The food was put out for the stray cat that lives in our backyard. The Opossum happened along at the right time.

Opossums can live fine out in a forest, but opossums which live within dense cities are already 100% dependent on people for food. Without peoples’ houses they wouldn’t be able to live in cities. Opossums are much slower than raccoons and other city dwelling animals.
