The End Times as a concept is not a bad thing, but the book series suffered from poor execution and lazyness, which is generally the complaint most fans of Warhammer have with Games Workshop when they lose interest in their own lore. I hope that as a more neutral reading of the events, W&W will give us a more interesting timeline without the dumb stuff. In any case, looking forward to seeing this series!
Yeah, you're right about it. The concept was fairly interesting, it's just that GW defaulted to the whole "Chaos wins" thing, they tried to push once already, with the Storm of Chaos campaign. It was recived poorly back then, and they learned nothing from it. To say nothing, about changing the personalites of some established characters, and killing off others.
It read like a normal hero story, but "... still it was not enough." For me it was unique because the message was, no matter how hard you fight, you can still lose. I've never read another book series like that. And I've got 400 fantasy novels here.
Warhammer has always had poor and lazy execution of its own lore. Warhammer 40,000 has an identical problem, which is why even the Wizards and Warriors channel cannot make them interesting.
So along with the Elves and Caledor Dragontamer creating the Vortex the Dwarves under their most powerful warrior, Grimnir would continuously battle daemons on the opposite side of the polar portal in the Chaos Wastes. That is why in the Great Book of Grudges, the Chaos Grudge is the first one to be recorded. Little did the Dwarves or Elves know of how both their races stopped the flow of Chaos in their respective realms so both races were very proud to say they were the ones to stop Chaos' incursions into the world but that certainly was not the case for the War of the Beard also known as the War of Vengeance between the two races (which you definitely need to do a video on that).

And in the end, it was Mannfred that defeated Archaon's army. Grimgor's input only helped save Valten's life. Then Valten was murdered later anyway probably by a Skaven.
I don’t even know why GW was so L on making the end times. Most notable characters in the good side did very questionable decisions. GW also treated Chaos being invincible in Warhammer Fantasy unlike in 40K where Chaos and the Imperium are pretty much in a equal footing.

Props to the Channel for making vids about this subject. The ET could have been many things under different pens. E.g. what I wanted was a revitalization of the WFB setting via having multiple theatres of war all contributing to the final outcome. Much like the dwarfs/thal men defense of Erebor gave the South the breathing space they needed. In this sense the status quo of multiple fronts could have been shifted, whilst unseen or unplayable factions could be introduced during this global crisis. Planetspanning problems affect everyone after all. But even if the goal of destroying the world was not changed, a much better narrative could and should have been made then what GW did back then.
I remember first reading the End Times books upon the initial release and thinking, “Wow, I can’t wait to see the shake up in the Warhammer World!”. Then by the time the Thanquol book came out it was evident the Warhammer World would just be destroyed. What a shame.
Absolutely love this video! Super minor correction: Mispronounced both Archaon and Be'lakor (you left off the "A" in Archaon, and Be'lakor is properly said 'Bell-a-Core'). Wouldn't've raised if not for the centrality of those characters to the lore!

Be prepared for some negative comments on this series. Not your fault, as the video quality is excellent as usual. I've been in and out of game stores for decades. I was working at a local when the End Times went down. The reality of the situation was purely a numbers game. Warhammer Fantasy brought in only a fraction of what 40K did. The stockholder reports were dire. Getting new players into it was nearly impossible due to the obscenely high barriers of entry. Even putting numbers aside, the system encouraged units of forty or fifty models. The model count could be in the hundreds. That's a huge commitment. The system needed an overhaul. Any reasonable person could see that. But veterans felt betrayed that not only was the system abandoned, but so were their models. After promises that every faction would still be viable, multiple lines were almost immediately axed. Not only that, but the narrative of the End Times seemed like it was poorly written for the sake of tying up every possible narrative thread, as opposed to a satisfying finale. All of that being said, it's canon. It deserves a decent series like this to get people up to speed, as the books are no longer available. An entire generation of gamers has now only known Age of Sigmar, and not what came before it. Just be ready for some salt from people who are still upset over the whole thing. Fascinating back drop with the Three Emperors era. Ample opportunity to do sequels with his descendants. I'll definitely be watching this series should it do well enough for you to continue. Just wanted to give some context if the comments take on a sour tone.

Also, for non Warhammer fans, be prepared for most battles ending like this "the good guys were winning but Chaos had unlimited warriors so Chaos won" to make Chaos win the writters were so lazy that they just gave them infinite numbers, they just treated Chaos like they were skaven

I am having a weird audio issue. I am not sure what it is precisely, but there is a disturbance and it has a pattern. The first examples I bothered to list are at: 8:10 It is in the middle of "Pinacle". 8:35 is another, at "those in which the chaos gods". 8:55 "the realm" There is a lot when you list Archaons 6 Blessings.
This reminds of the last stand against the Nemesis in the Legacy of Kain series. It’d be neat if there was a small series on the soul reaver and blood Omen games.
Please please please make a series about the story of Malekith the Great and the Sundering! It's one of the most underrated and yet one of the best parts of Warhammer Fantasy
When was it that the Rivalrys changed? I swear when i first got into 40k the chaos rivalries were: Khorne and Tzeentch. Cuz Khorne hates sorcerey and trickery and thats tzeentches entire deal And Nurgle and Slaanesh. Since Slaanesh is about beauty and perfection, while Nurgle is decay and entropy Khorne and Slaanesh share a lot of aspects..a warrior can go to either for skill in combat
Bruh, This sounds more like the Dwarves loss due to their Hubris. They saw the Twin Tailed Comet, they knew what was coming, and nobody thought "Let's put cannons on the other wall just in case they FLANK!"
I really like your design of Archaon. At least more than the one in the Total War games. I guess this one will actually ride a horse instead of a pony.
Hey team! I'm a huge fan of both K&G and now W&W. I actually never played or read any of the Warhammer games/books, so all of this is interesting to me solely from a storytelling and animation point-of-view. As such, please keep it up! I don't know pretty much anything about the content (I'm just surprised it's not in space like the 20K series is, but I guess that came later?). It feels like a much more violent version of the Lord of the Rings :-)

WEAKLING! But seriously though, I don't think Fantasy is really all that Grimdark, End Times aside it's generally a lot more optimistic in it's stories. I'd say Warhammer Fantasy is more gritty than grimdark. The difference being that it focuses a bit more on the badassery than the edgelordiness

Actually, I have been itching for somebody in the world to actually assess the End Times and the battles for a while since I'm reading the sourcebooks now
See this is how bad the writing is for the end times . Why wouldnt the dwarfs retreat to start with if they knew they had no chance why spend the man power trying to hold there when you could gather all the supplies from all the strong holds and hold out in the best fortified one . Being stubborn doesn't mean they are stupid. Just like how the green knight and abhorash the 2 greatest warriors just basically waited for the world to end instead of going to MIDDEHIEM . @@resileaf9501 it's not a theory, that actually is his ultimate goal, destroy the mortals= destroy the gods that feed of their emotions and worship
Can't wait for the Skaven stuff!
Holy Molly I love subjects you are choosing for these videos.
Endtimes is the dumbing you can find but the best you can find, tactically and story tellingly. Keep it going please, more Warhammer!
You have a long and great series open to you. I eagerly await the detailed assessment of every battle across this series of books. The 1st Battle of Middenheim especially. Just a heads up though, his name is Archaon(Ark-ae-on) not Archon.
I have been reading the campaign books and I just love the battles. They are ripe with potential content, I'm surprised after about 10ish years nobody assessed the battles and the wars of the End Times
Awesöme! Lööking förward tö the next öne
awesome. Taking on the Endtimes is crazy
The way you described the end times it seems like we are there now IRL
Problem is we don't have an Everchosen to lead.
I volunteer
I am having a weird audio issue. I am not sure what it is precisely, but there is a disturbance and it has a pattern. The first examples I bothered to list are at:
8:10 It is in the middle of "Pinacle".
8:35 is another, at "those in which the chaos gods".
8:55 "the realm"
There is a lot when you list Archaons 6 Blessings.
I suggest:
Prince Valiant
The battle of Kashyyyk.
Gears of War
Battle of Antarctica (Stagate SG-1)
I wonder if there are books depicting how Archeon changed from being a herald of Sigmar to a chaos lord.
I think there was a book about it, if memory serves. Either that, or it was in one of the Chaos army books.
He literally has a trilogy of novels.
@@dreamwar1586 what are the names of these books if I am allowed to ask.
@@AlaskaSaedelaere1 he has two books, one called Archaon: Everchosen and Archaon: Lord of Chaos
@@amandag.6186 Thank you ☺️
Wow. Just wow.
Now I can't even imagine how they would respond with Warhammer 40k, starting from pre-Horus Heresy.
I swear when i first got into 40k the chaos rivalries were:
Khorne and Tzeentch. Cuz Khorne hates sorcerey and trickery and thats tzeentches entire deal
And
Nurgle and Slaanesh. Since Slaanesh is about beauty and perfection, while Nurgle is decay and entropy
Khorne and Slaanesh share a lot of aspects..a warrior can go to either for skill in combat
Oh yes, the end times, here it comes. Thanks for this, your videos are top notch!
Really like your warhammer videos. Will you be making any clips about Gotrek and Felix?
Nice you to cover the end times, like to see moore.
Excellent video man! I got an idea for the next series after this one, you should do the rise of Elves in Warhammer Fantasy (Aenarion's time)!
Bruh, This sounds more like the Dwarves loss due to their Hubris. They saw the Twin Tailed Comet, they knew what was coming, and nobody thought "Let's put cannons on the other wall just in case they FLANK!"
An issue with flanking is movement takes time. Even if they had cannons they would've needed extra shot and more importantly, crews
So you're telling me Archaon is Thanos? Collecting 6 Chaos blessings like they were Infinity Gems?
Or Thanos is Archaon
I really like your design of Archaon. At least more than the one in the Total War games.
I guess this one will actually ride a horse instead of a pony.
There is a mod called chaos steeds that makes all horses for the chaos faction much bigger.
"The Lord of Decay is jolly, happy and kind in his mannerisms"
Not a sentence i though i'd hear
So amazing you guys are creating warhammer videos. This new WIzards And Warriors kicks butt
looking forward for the next video. Also, do Settra's grudge against Nagash
Brother i watch your videos from Venezuela... Your work is amazing, thanks for your endevour
Can't wait for this series! I know a lot of people are not fans of the End Times, but honestly it seems appropriate to me that there is at least one canon Warhammer timeline where Chaos wins, even if it got a reboot.
Dude I heard the end times was pure chaos fighting literally everywhere
The End Times as a concept is not a bad thing, but it suffered from poor execution and lazyness, which is generally the complaint most fans of Warhammer have with Games Workshop when they lose interest in their own lore.
I thought the eight peaks conclusion was very satisfying.
@@thescarletpumpernel3305 spoilers...
It became Karak-no-Peaks
I just want to see them assess the grand battles and wars that happen
Love your videos keep up the good work!!!!❤️
Loved it, cant wait for more
Ya know Wizards and Warriors, I'm not a big fan of fantasy, but enjoy sci-fi. That being said, this channel makes fantasy seem like "real" history. Outstanding! Keep up the great vids. It also says a lot when I hit the like button before even watching the vid. Officially Devin, dude, you need to ask for more money because your narrations make these vids.
Nice Video. Can't say I'm a fan of the Endtimes. Honestly Storm of Chaos was better (and Storm of Chaos had it's own problems).
can't wait for the last stand of averheim or the last battle in middenheim!
Excited for the next episode. Though I'm still waiting for the Elves documentary
Watching this will hurt my soul so much...
Can’t wait for a Dragon Age universe video!🙌🏼🙌🏼
Got to start simple. with either the first blight or the occupation of Ferelden from Orlais
Please do a video on Cameron the usurper and queen potema
If anyone asks you how the Choas Wastes were formed, tell them "Really big frogs."
loved it! i cannot find what happened exactly to the lizard men in the endtimes though
They are distracted by trying to stop the moon from crashing into the planet and are attacked by surprise by Skaven, causing the effort to hold the moon back to fail
@@benghiskahn3673 actually many lizardmen escaped to space. Though Mazdamundi and other Slann stayed behind to negate the skaven moon yeet to only on Lustria
Could you please cover the Battle for Autobot City?
I see Archaon I up vote.
Yeah... until you hear to the narrator repeatedly butcher the name of our boy. 😂
Well, I, for one, am looking forwards to this series, it sounds promising...
Are we ever gonna get a video on "The Wheel of Time" lore?
I'm surprised you didn't mention the heroic defense of the Dorven fortress Kraka Jak. They still celebrate their victory with delicious caramel coated popcorn snacks.
One Note; Archaon did not accept the powers of the warp, including Heldenhammer, as being worthy of anything but an ending.
This, he only took the job as Everchosen because he had no other way out. And he believed that in ending the world of mortals which emotions and worships feed the gods, it would starve them, causing them to wither and die
Nice to see a norscan who knew chaos was evil and tried to take a stand.
I could never get into any version of warhammer, I just can't take this much grimdark in one place. but the lore is interesting, so this is a good way to meet in the middle
Try Necromunda. It retains a lot of the 2000 A.D. inspiration and humor.
Valkia is not a daemon princess, he is a human, just very very heavily blessed and mutated by Khorne
Othervise good vid as always and good models too!
She is def a daemon princess
You meant she
jeez a year ago already i feel like time really flys one of my favourite series lol :D
This channel narrator sounds like the one voicing the official CA Let's play videos on warhammer 3.
Amazing movie ! Great work covering such a challenging material as Warhammer, You guys never drops the pole. Thank you for you hard work on both Channels. Are you planing to cover Warhammer 40k after age of sigmar?
Out of all you could have covered, the War of the Beard, the Three Emperors, the Struggles of Aenarion. And you go with this. I love you guys but please cover the War of Vengeance.
Actually, I have been itching for somebody in the world to actually assess the End Times and the battles for a while since I'm reading the sourcebooks now
Tzeentch: All is dust...
Khorne: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
Slaanesh: I can make your secret desires come true.
Nurgle: Wanna split a bagel?
I know nothing of 40k but I love a good compelling narrative. You have that in spades, so I'll be watching every video in this series.
This is the Warhammer fantasy btw. Not the 40k one
This isn't 40k...
Oh and don't forget that whole Mannfred literal backstab deal.
That's right Valkia tries to kill me but I kicked her ass.
She even lost to my bro, Kouran
Tarriff: I’m about to end this man’s whole career…
