I am currently playing through Alundra on the PS1 for the first time since it came out. I spent half of 2015 working on a Zelda-like game in a weird scifi future world where you have a sword and a dash and you can aim guns. Then Hyper Light Drifter came out and I was like "Oh...they made my game....way better than I could ever make it. Awesome..." And I was too sad to play it for like a year. But then I finally did, and it was really, really good.
Hey now, 7th Saga was a very cool RPG, once you give it a proper chance and take the time to learn the game. If you wanna see a full playthrough with grinding done off-camera, check out the one on my channel. I show stats and times between sessions so you can get an idea of how long the entire thing took. (Or, well, *almost* full playthrough, I really need to finish it sometime)
Hyper Light Drifter Is just incredible...challenging, atmospheric, beautiful, swift as butter... It puts you in a specific mood while you are playing. (Besides the raging frustration in some parts)
I was so ready to point Hyper Light Drifter in case you missed it lol oh well, it's definitely a good play indeed. There was this puzzle on the bottom left of the desert in which I spent so many hours trying to perform it properly, in the end I had to abuse some bugs on the falling platforms I found along the way lol (like walking pixel perfect between two platforms in such a way none is triggered haha).
I really dig the idea for this video. I sometimes wonder how difficult it is to continue to come up with new ideas after making hundreds of videos. I've only just started doing video game videos and I've quickly realized that I'm out of my element. I have a lot of respect for SNES drunk and all the other UA-camrs who have done it their way and succeeded, and continue to succeed.
I have to give a big thank you to this channel. for years I thought the game at 3:13 was something I'd never see again. many years ago I was at a friend's house and they had an SNES and I saw them playing a game that looked like a LTTP rip off. Idr why but I never played it myself but I kept looking at it thinking Spike McFang looked like Link wearing a top hat or Lucky from Lucky Charms lol. seeing it again makes me realize I'm not crazy and it actually looks cool. great video.
So glad someone finally gave Oasis some love. I first experienced it on the Sega Saturn and fell in love with it. Later on the Wii store found one on the original Sega Genesis system, almost felt like the same game. Always felt like I was playing a more mature Zelda game back then
Some more modern Swith games similar to Zelda are Blossom Tales, Anodyne and Ocean Horn. The Magic of Scheherazade for the original NES is also similar to Zelda. I spent half of 2015 working on a Zelda-like game in a weird scifi future world where you have a sword and a dash and you can aim guns. Then Hyper Light Drifter came out and I was like "Oh...they made my game....way better than I could ever make it. Awesome..."
And I was too sad to play it for like a year. But then I finally did, and it was really, really good.
The heartbreaking way you say "I don't have a Switch". I feel you.
Good idea Brian
Absolutely AWESOME video! So MANY good recommendations here!
"From the same developer of Seventh Saga."
Me: _looks sideways menacingly_
Hey now, 7th Saga was a very cool RPG, once you give it a proper chance and take the time to learn the game. If you wanna see a full playthrough with grinding done off-camera, check out the one on my channel. I show stats and times between sessions so you can get an idea of how long the entire thing took. (Or, well, *almost* full playthrough, I really need to finish it sometime)
I do watch Snes Drunk for so many years now that it is almost like he is a long time friend o' mine.
" I will ignore action rpgs"
and thus why there is not a single ys game on this list.
And that's very okay! Ys has always filled a slightly different niche anyway
I was waiting for Ys, oh well. :(
@( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 乇乂ㄒ尺卂 ㄒ卄丨匚匚 Its Ys-ey to see you don't know how to pronounce it :)
@Dustin Peacock ys 6 orgins and the remake of 3 would fit just fine with zelda fans.
@Dustin Peacock Only Ys1 and 2 have bump mechanics. The modern remakes/games do not.
You're my hero for mentioning God Of Thunder. Huge thumb up!
My first thought "" He better have bloody added Crusader of Centy!"
Oh he did:? ok move along....... :P
But he didn't mention 3D Dot Game Heroes.
Soleil is such a poor man's Zelda.
Thanks for the compilation videos like this!
They need to make a Charles Bronson game
@@JoeyJoeJoe87 Third is a personal favorite. The music is groovy.
There is a Death Wish 3 video game for the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and MSX.
I love videos like this! Keep 'em coming!
I haven't came this early since my 1st date
You're a rich man baby
It's good to be on time if you're meeting someone, even better if you come early.
I love your videos like this! I always learn about a handful of new games to check out!
Your forgot the best Zelda clone of all time, that beats A link to the past in every aspect: Alundra for original Playstation.
Even better than a Zelda game cause it's had a mature plot
Second that, great game.
I LOVE that game. Cleared it twice
I really did not like Alundra all that much. Sorry
@@SNESdrunk Ok. Give it a second chance one of this day :)
Thanks (once again) for these great recommendations !
Hyper Light Drifter Is just incredible...challenging, atmospheric, beautiful, swift as butter...
It puts you in a specific mood while you are playing. (Besides the raging frustration in some parts)
Link's Awakening is my fave Zelda game too, glad to hear I'm not alone. And love the video, thanks
Very nice intro and I hope you have a great rest of your day 👍🏼
Fantastic video! A Link to the past is my all time favourite game. I’d love to try out other similar games 🙂
Brain Lords was awesome, loved that game
It's not universally loved, but it's one of my favorite SNES games. I'm glad SNES Drunk is letting people know about it!
Allan Valin agreed👍
Duuuuude God of Thunder was my jam when I was a kid.
Awesome video as always!
Playing right now A link between worlds and it's a very good sequel, definitely worth it.
Yes please! Thank You for making these videos!
I missed the Super Metroid video. Thanks for letting me know about it with this video.
You gain my utmost respect when mentioned Crystalis, amazing game
nice that you brought up "god of thunder". it was my legend of zelda back in the days, because i had no nes/snes :)
Always felt like I was playing a more mature Zelda game back then
Crystalis was so much fun. I loved it!
I love God of Thunder. Remember playing it on my old Windows 3.1 PC. Great to see you showing it some love!
Some more modern Swith games similar to Zelda are Blossom Tales, Anodyne and Ocean Horn. The Magic of Scheherazade for the original NES is also similar to Zelda. I haven't had the chance to play Alundra for PS1, but I've heard it's similar to Zelda. Also for more great Zelda games that people don't really talk about much I recommend The Minish Cap, Oracle of Time and Oracle of Seasons.
Goof Troop is now a favorite of mine, was extremely fun. I loved Spike McFang too.
