Oh no it’s actually still in pretty good condition and could be even sold to Thailand but it is just not respected here in SG Really heartbreaking to see it scrapped into pieces at such a young age
I only took this bus once but the experience was worth it, the seats are comfortable making the journey very smooth and relaxing, thanks for the service B10BLE!
CNG buses generally have a shorter lifespan because the CNG tanks expire. Usually a bus will last about 10-14 years before either the CNG tank gets replaced or the bus gets replaced. In America, the bus usually gets replaced.
This is very wasteful as it would've been better if they exported this vehicle to a foreign country for diplomatic reasons such as sending it to somewhere such as India 🇮🇳, Nepal 🇳🇵, Bhutan 🇧🇹, etc. considering that the Japanese government already do this to their obsolete rolling stock and buses being shipped over to Myanmar 🇲🇲...
By doing that it will be political gain for some politician. They will said its their effort. Better scrap it this way. Giving such country this thing is useless as when the times come they just let it rot at the side of the road. At least singapore know how to salvage something for a greener solution. This bus is not expensive anyway, why cant they afford?
Nothing much can be done afterward when a company decides to purchase a CNG bus. As you can see on the top of the bus, there are 2 covers. The front being where the tanks are stored, the back being the aircon. After 20 or so years, it is extremely unsafe to keep the tanks running over their expire date since they are at risk of exploding due to wear and tear from overtime. Here in Perth, we have OC500LE units that use CNG, though retired after their tanks expire due to safety reasons. Unless a hefty amount of money is invested to re assemble the engine to make it Diesel compliant, since all the fuel injectors and fuel lines are only CNG compliant, it’s cheaper to get a new vehicle and dispose of the CNG unit. It’s sad how they have to go, and that B10BLE personally was underused, and still had a good 5 years left. Tank expiry dates do very, but should last around 20 years, where as this B10BLE only lasted 13, so I guess it was retired early. However as mentioned above, there isn’t much choice to keep the bus operating after the tanks expire, because they can’t last forever or longer like how Diesel units can last.
What a waste, the bus still in good condition and yet being scrapped. LTA seems don't value such bus. Sadly to say... Thank you for sharing if not all of us would not know...
Thought the B10BLE entered service in 2001/2002 instead together with the B10TL/Super Olympian, since I remember they still had the red magnetic stripe farecard validator machines behind the driver's seat, which would've made it 17 yrs old instead when scrapped
@@glitchFan2428 Only the first 2 units are earmarked for preservation. The remaining buses have to remove in 2019 because the CNG tanks decommissioned.

I understand the point you are bringing across, and I do agree. The main part of this video is addressing (as you correctly identified) early retirement of the bus which could have been used for way longer, especially being low floor.
Woah, 17 years limit for busses? It is kinda short imo. Especially since there are other options such as overhauling the bus, that way less resources are spent on having to make a whole new bus frame, etc. 10 years for private cars is even worse. My parents managed to get our car transferred to Malaysia after its 10 years was up and, with 20 years of age, it is still going like a champ! Only problem is that parts are a pain to find :/ I do wonder if LTA chose the lifespan limits at random or based off of extensive calculations on how much CO2 is produced by an old vehicle compared with the CO2 produced in making a new vehicle. Would love to see the a paper on the subject.
Yes 17 is way too short. Buses of the 90s especially are made to run forever. But we cannot expect them to be as environmentally friendly as new models. 10 years for private cars is a renewable license and not a lifespan. You can renew the license indefinitely 10 years at a time currently. But with Singapore's plan to phase out existing petrol and diesel private cars, this might soon change.
@@glitchFan2428 Ooh yes, but I remember the cost is almost like buying a new car. Actually I do wonder if older busses can be more efficient by burning less fuel due to being lighter from not having as much gadgets and gizmos. Maybe changing the engine with something more efficient could help?
@@NCC651 hmm not too sure myself, but from a purely environmental standpoint alone i doubt it's possible to make older buses less damaging to the environment unless drastic modifications are made, like retrofitting an electric motor for example.
You could go to the scrapyard and tell the operator what you want from the bus, they'll remove it and charge you accordingly. But all of these buses have been scrapped already though, this clip is from 2019.
I suspect these buses were in for early retirement back in 2019 is probably due to safety reasons. I heard a while back, some bus in SG that uses CNG like these B10BLE caught fire while on the road, the driver was burn badly. Afterwards the LTA had all CNG buses check including these. The company that owned that private CNG bus had all other buses turn back to Diesel. I think LTA retired these as they possibly think as these buses get older, they might be a hazzard and even more dangerous. Theres a reason why we didnt see any more CNG buses bought by LTA. Btw the seats of these buses...are they the same as the Scania Demo 8033 seats? I just realised once 8030 & 8033 gets scrapped, all SG public buses will no longer have the old vogel seats😢. Which means only a few buses in singapore will have comfortable seats(CRRC C12, MAN A95 E6 3 door, MAN A95 3 Door Concept Bus). Hopefully LTA buys more buses with comfortable seats. Also never once took these buses before😭Same with all of SBS demo buses, they will probably never go back on revenue service until they are scrapped
Very funny that they can sell 2 buses away to UK & Hong Kong but not me, i've tried to contact SBS Transit i wanted to preserved and use it in Malaysia, but they never reply!
SBS transit isn't interested in selling their buses to private individuals, but have no problems donating buses to be used for rehabilitation / children training.
That will happen with the mass introduction of new hybrid/electric buses. I wished that the E4 KUBs will also be retrofitted into electric buses like SG3100M instead of going into waste.
Now many unrefurbished kubs euro 4 will be de registered and scrapped before 17 years lifespan😢I believe many were only 13-14 years old as of today, their lifespan ends by 2024 but i think all unrefurbished will be gone by end 2022. We must cherish kubs even though not many ppl like them. Honestly some ppl only started appreciate these buses when they are almost gone. I do like the kubs for their cool aircon and zf ecomat. Hoping some one will catch a kub being taken to the scrapyard. The end of euro 3 & 4 buses in singapore is near😔The Kubs...the first ever mass produced bus in singapore and first sd wab bus, once a common sight in sg would soon become a rarity(thats if lta decides to scrap e5 kubs as well). I wont be surprise if they do. I guessing then bus services with a lot of elderly take would be replaced with MAN A22 E6 since they got 2 wheelchair bays as well notably toa payoh int. Cherish the remaining kubs esp e4 while we still can
How is it going to be old instead of relatively new? Must it be full 17 years in order for it to be old and relatively old. That's why other countries like UK may their bus run until their lifespan ends not sure if UK scrapped their bus at the early stage hopefully not then it's either preserved or scrapped but definitely UK people likes preserved and UK government respect them so UK government preserve but SG don't care scrapped whatever LTA likes. I am not sure if the bus operator such as SBS Transit is also the one who wants all NWAB and low Euro Buses to be scrapped other than LTA. It's a waste of money. How come Volvo B10BLE CNG Volgren cannot go to more and more bus services such as Service 53? So I don't know whose fault LTA or bus operator or both?

2023
They want all wheelchairs access buses
Good bye volvo bus 2022😭😭😭
Dang, what a waste!
its scrapped too early
I’m just going home 😂🙃🤯
I would've wanted it retired in at least 2028 or 2029 or maybe even 2030 if possible
Wow that's a bit difficult for Singapore
Don't mimd me, but all I can say is "F**k this shit, this is damn painful to watch."
But what to do, LTA and emissions. 🤷♂️
Same here, it was hard to film :(
Very sad news 😭🥺🙃🎉
Volvo is better than scania
what a waste
Yeah
S.b.s must be making good money to scrap beautifull buses im driving a 18 yrs old junk
Haha old stuff are actually better! My previous car in Singapore is 31 years old while my current car in the UK is 20 years old! They don't make them like they used to anymore
Correction it is a 2004 model
I don't see how that is possible when SBS transit has already acquired the bus in 2003 lol
