- Maxson Goh Films the scrapping of a SBS Transit Volvo B9TL CDGE (Euro III). This bus commenced revenue service in 2006 and was refurbished inside and out sometime between 2018 and 2019. Now in 2021, the time has come for it to head for scrap and be replaced by newer, more eco friendly MAN A95 buses.

R.I.P. Volvo B9TL CDGE. You had always been one of our best childhood friends and memories. We had a fun time laughing, crying and riding with you, with many stories to tell and adventures to experience.
Now, you are the one who is however scrapped unceremoniously, without any fanfare but just fading away into darkness......

They cannot have any fanfare, need to cover up the fact that a recently refurbished bus in perfectly working condition was sent for scrap

Indeed it's weird to see a lush green bus being scrapped
Instead of scrapping the whole bus which is relatively new it would be much better for these buses to go back to the makers that made them so that they are remanaufactured & fitted with new eco friendly engines which would be much better for the enviorment as scrapping itself causes pollution & the bus industry needs to change so that all end of life buses go back to the makers that made them where they are reconditioned & remanufactured into new buses in clean & sterile conditions so that scenes like this are consigned to history which should be a legal requirement for all vehicles as why destroy them when they can be made into new by remanufacturing?

@@josh88970 from what observe they seem to dw to 1 shot retire all coz not all A95 are ready for SBS yet so fron earliest batch to last batch retire
They are quite young and sent to the scrapyard, they are quite unlucky

Are there any of the B9TL remaining? I thought I found some 2007/8 examples in service near where I live but it turned out they are apparently B7TL so I am not going to bother trying to get them as I have been on loads of B7TL before.
In Singapore at least there are B9TLs still in service. There aren't any B7TLs though so I'm assuming you aren't from Singapore and unfortunately my knowledge is quite limited outside of Singapore.
When im coming back sg definitely rushing to buy the handgrips before sold out like how i managed to take the 2nd last VSO volgren handgrip and my friend took the last one

I was sitting this type of bus for 51 and 72 during childhood, also bus service 50 80, 88, 147, 196 198, so sad this bus has to go, only remaining 179 units still on the road until Sept 2023.

This year they retired the last nwab bus which is sbs9889u

Already? I thought the minimum lifespan of a bus in Singapore is 17 years. 2006 was only 15 years ago.
There's only a maximum lifespan, no minimum. The Volvo B10BLEs died at 13 years old, Hino HS3KRKKs at 14 years.

CDGE is one of the best double decker bus in SBS Transit. Very sad to see about 4 CDGE has been scrapped.

In HK the B9TL Euro 3s has not be scrapped, what problems caused they (the Singapore B9s) to retire?
we brought in more A95 buses and land here is smaller but ofc its a bit more unfair then u guys in HK

Actually the lifespan is still relatively short, coz 2006-2021 is about 15 years, while the max lifespan of a public bus in sg is 17 years b4 it Is unregistered (I think)… so shouldn’t have scrapped this so soon…

It's very heartbreaking.
Just looking back at this video, i am starting to think these CDGES will be scrapped by early 2022 and not 2023 whereas their lifespan ends. Based on the number of cdges being de registered at this point of time. Feel half will be gone and send for scrap in jan 2022 while the rest probs aug/sept 2022. After that, Scania k230ub euro 4 is next. I didnt expect that they will go so soon. They might be probs one of the few unrefurbished buses or the only one so far that would be scrapped without refurb. But then again most scanias are always in bad condition, seems like sbs/lta barely pays any attention to these older buses similar to VSOs, CDGES..etc
Such a shame, these buses still have a lot of life left in them.

Just stand outside can on the public area. It's a double decker bus and the fence isn't that high.

I'm also wondering this! My guess is that because there is a surplus of brand new buses, it would make more economical sense to dispose of the older buses (even though they were just refurbished). Still, I feel that it is all very poorly planned.

I came to singapore for the B10TLs, and leaving in the memories of CDGE B9TLs.
To me, they are a improved version of Enviro500 bodied B9TLs in HK.

This bus belongs to the lst batch of double decker buses in Singapore which can transport wheelchair-bound passengers on them. The downfall of this bus is its noisy engine sound on the outside when it runs on the road. Other than this bad aspect, I find that this bus is okay.
Wah I wonder whether the guy operating the scrapping machine feels like his job is fun or sad..
Edit: not to mention that crane machine do be insanely powerful tho
