Otto Kern a German scholar collected the fragments of the Orphics in Orphicorum Fragmenta that contains the fragments in Anct.Greek. The Latin title is given to allow shelving in libraries where the shelving order follows the Latin alphabet.
The Myth of Orpheus is like a lock 🔐 whose blades allow a number of keys 🔑 to fit in but not really opening it...another key tried before was Shamanic practices because Orpheus went into the underworld and was shown to be surrounded by animals while playing his lyre...he was said to understand the animals as well.
C G Jung s understanding may be helpful for understanding modern man who lost his Soul[see his book], but the Hymns of Orpheus are mystical initiations [according to T. Taylor the Platonist who was the translator in the 1800s]that may be understood in light of the orphic theology in the Elements of Plato s Theology by Proclus, a long book and not easy to read, also translated by Thomas Taylor. Thracians were following teachings paralleling Vedic practice as documented by Frits Staal in Discovering the Vedas[Penguin Books of India]. Hinduism was not born on Indus but much farther north as shown by the finds of Viktor Sarianidi[of Greek origin]who was the discoverer of the BMAC/ Bactria-Margiana Complex. Far north there are the Lithuanians whose language is terribly close to Sanskrit as found on UA-cam clips by Indians and Lithuanians alike.
The island of Samothrace has the temple of the great gods Kabeiroi...Orpheus was initiating into those mysteries...the initiates were receiving a red cord tied around their waists(?)and a ring made of magnetic lode.
Maybe the Myth of Orpheus has less to do with the actual mysteries and teachings of the Orphics believed to be also the source for Mythraism, in which Mythra is the Sun[Apollo...]. Thracian royal tombs discovered in the 1980s have openings that allow shafts of light to come into the funeral chamber on the dates of the two solstices. Orpheus was a priest of Apollo killed by Bachantes Thracian women of the Cycones tribe, himself of the Edoni tribe. Thracian was discovered written in Greek script on Samothrace in 1994 and it is the same language as on the ring of Ezerovo found earlier. There is the great complex of Perperikon in the Rhodopes...a Dionysian altar described from the times of Alexander. Could Orpheus' murder have been a feud between the followers of Dionysus and those in the Solar Cult?
What does the death of Orpheus symbolise? What does the murder by the women worshipping Dionysus symbolise? What does the head and lyre symbolise as they are taken to Lesbos and finally what does the head & the sounding lyre represent? If all these are not fitting Jungian interpretation then the beginning of the story explained in Jungian terms remains an attempt only and not an ellucidation...yet another key that didn't open the lock of the myth...
