  • I hate how Heinz baked beans are kinda slimy…. so I make it from scratch instead. It's crazy easy and tastes SO SIMILAR to Heinz it's almost scary! (Except, you know. No preservatives or artificially flavouring, and you've made it fresh instead of sitting in a can for weeks/months/years 😳)

    I’m from uk. I tried this recipe and it tastes very similar if not better than Heinz beans. Also I added extra onion powder and tomato paste to make it really taste like the canned stuff.

      I love this comment! One thing I was not sure was the amount of sugar. Bc In the US baked beans are disgustingly sweet. But I LOVE the flavor of Heinz baked beans. My BF is English and this is something I love to eat regularly now. :) But would prefer to cook them from scratch sometimes too.

    Wow just made these, superb. I live in Southern Italy and have had Heinz Beans shipped from UK and Europe. But they now want £23 for 4 cans! You are saving me a fortune. Many thanks.

    Just made these beans. OMG! So amazing. Have to admit...I did add a tsp of molasses. I was pretty sure my husbands eyes were going to roll back in his head. I did have to make Katchup so I could make them. Now I'm disappointed that I only made half the recipe. Never buying canned baked beans again. As always, your recipes are amazing. I'm so looking forward to trying the Chicken Burritos. Thank you, Cheers!

    Finally made this!! And I gotta say, they taste pretty good in my opinion! I made the whole batch and going to freeze some jars of it (the link for the recipe in the description has more indications and details). I can't get the original canned beans here in Argentina but this is the closest I can manage! Sure, I hadn't had Heinz baked beans in a couple of years so I don't remember it very well and can't compare it exactly to the originals, but I think it's a good replacement! Tastewise, I think they are fine! They didn't blew my mind but really, the original ones didn't blow my mind either, I just liked them and could only get them over there. I used other sugar instead of brown because I didn't have any, but other than that, it tastes pretty good. I'm going to try it with an egg on top like I read in other comment.

    You don't need cornstarch; Just don't add too much water, and the sugar will thicken the liquid.
    Ketchup is not needed either: Is basically tomato paste with sugar and vinegar.
    Pouring 1tsp of sodium bicarbonate to the beans, will help to reduce the odor and being cooked a bit faster.

    • @MilwaukeeWoman
      @MilwaukeeWoman Рік тому

      I thought it shouldn't need so much starch. Maybe the goal was to have more thickened liquid to match the bean to liquid ratio of the original.

    Damn, i ve been searching for beans recipes online and none of them do it like we do it in romania which was unexpected tbh but i think we got the combination right cuz we use tomato i it. I personally start by sweating some onions in some olive oil, then add diced carrot to the mix. After that u wanna add a litte water and salt and and let the carrrot boil a bit. Then add (i use that) canned beans, passata and a bit of tomato concentrate with a little pepper, a bay leaf and some sweet paprika. You can also add dried herbs like thyme and oregano towards the end. Basically simmer and let it reduce until you get a saucy bean pot :D this is what i ate growing up, goes well with sausages, english style breakfast or meats in general. I dont know exact quantities but it depends on ur taste and how much u wanna make. enjoy :D

All the recipes I've found on UA-cam so far are American and are BBQ flavour, with mixed beans or have added bacon to the recipes. Your recipe is the closest to Heinz but unfortunately, it has Ketchup and sugar added so isn't suitable for my diet needs. Would you be able to advise on a diabetic-friendly version?

      Just use sweetener instead of sugar & use a low-sugar ketchup. If you can't find a sufficiently low sugar ketchup then add a little more tomato paste, vinegar, and add a tiny amount of ground clove (a prominent spice in ketchup) - and adjust the sweetener to compensate.

    Looking into going organic, and it appears easier to go back to the raw ingredients than waiting for companies to catch up. So we're looking at stocking up our pantry with lots of dry beans, have some containers with them pretty much always on soak so they're ready to use.
    We love the Heinz five beans, got them prepared to order 3kg of each.
    Based off this recipe (I'd want to make a vegetarian version), is there a way to make this in bulk every month or two. Don't want anything sitting there too long, but it would be very helpful if we could do this to an extent. A simple "Beans on Toast" means going from 5-10 minutes to several hours, and our property isn't very spacious so, like when we made our own organic Brown Sauce, it takes up all the room, but the sauce lasts for years so we make it every 9-12 months.
    Instead of making 6kg in one container for example, looking at buying 500ml jars, same size as our tins, so we don't keep adding air to the rest we're trying to preserve, so this would be the same as a 12 pack of beans, each in their air-tight containers.
