    That diminished sound is brilliant for building tension right before a chord change. Or I think it sounds sweet as on that V chord on a I VI II V sequence (just a personal fave)

    Robin, another great lesson. I do find it hard to make melodies with the whole tone scale/sound as opposed to normal e7 and diminished chords...whole tone sound is a bit hard to get "into"your ears....thanks a million again, these lessons are really helpfull !

    Great video! I love the whole tone sound. The first time I ever heard it was in the Hammer Dracula films with Christopher Lee.

    It is really the phrasing that makes jazz sound good. Without the rhythmical phrasing, the gesture, the licks it wont sound good whatever you do

    Hi Robin, greetings from Thailand, and thanks for your great lessons.
    As usual I am confused, and wonder if you could please clarify something.
    What is the diminished chord you are playing over the E7 ?
    It cannot be an Edim7, but appears it could be Ddim7, Fdim7, G#dim7 or Bdim7.
    The reason for asking is I am trying to get my head round the theory and wanting to use the full diminished scale, but unsure which one to use, (rather than just use the chord notes). Hope this makes sense.
