I find the Lecoule to be a great complement pen to the Pilot Prera. They're almost identical in size, very similar in design except for the capping mechanism (I prefer the satisfying pop from the Prera). If I want a smooth fairly broad line or more nib choices then I can use a Prera. If I fancy a finer line and a more feedbacky experience, the Lecoule fills the gap nicely.
I've ordered my first PGS after being quite pleased with my Lecoules. Interestingly I've bucked the trend by not actually being a massive fan of the 1911 Standard (so far). Its section is too thin when combined with the other design aspects: the threads are just sharp enough to be really annoying and they require me to hold the pen further back. In turn, this makes my angle shallower and all these factors combine to make the 1911 fatiguing to use for more than a paragraph. I'm hoping the PGS won't be similar.
You're welcome Angela! This pen has really grown on me. I love the color, size and shape. This Lecoule is currently my favorite pen for writing on poor quality paper.
I purchased a Sailor Lecoule in the black crystal color in July of 2019. I've been using it every day, and it's one of my favorite pens. Your review is very helpful in considering my next pen purchase. Thank you!
It depends on why you want a gold nib. If you think the gold nib is better looking than the steel, well that's a matter of personal opinion and not really a scam.
@@gadgetstop321 If the trim is silver the nib gonna be chrome plated anyway xD . I don't know its just very curious why we need gold nib , back it the days it was to resist corrosion , but nowadays ?
Excellent objective review, with no prejudice about the price or the gold nib. Thank you. I have a sailor realo and a procolor 500 and I have to say that I enjoy writing more with the latter (don't enjoy the small ink capacity of the converter though).
Thank you. I also have a Pro Color 500 that gets more use than my Pro Gear Slim and my 1911 Standard. The writing experiences are surprisingly similar so I usually choose the Pro Color to use at school because I'm afraid of loosing or damaging one of the more expensive pens.
I ordered and received the Sailor Lecoule Rose during the past summer months. It arrived with cartridge installed and ink stains on grip and inside cap. Needless to say I returned it. 🥲 Thanks for sharing!
I might have missed it but would you say one is heavier than the other-- are they made of similar plastics? I just got the lecoule and I put a sailor cartridge in it. It feels too light to me, almost flimsy, but that might change once I change to a converter.
The Pro Gear Slim might be a little heavier due to the cap band, but not enough to notice while writing. They feel like they're made out of the same type of plastic. In fact the caps and sections of the Lecoule and Pro Gear Slim are interchangeable.
It's got the same feel in the hand as the Pro Gear Slim, but I find myself us the Pro Gear Slim more often because it is so pretty. However, I have recently fallen in love with the Pilot 78G, which is in the same price range as the Lecoule. I need to do a head to head comparison of the two.
@@gadgetstop321 I already own the 78G and don't like it all that much. But any chance to see you use that Lecoule some more and hear how you like it would be appreciated.
I need to stop watching your videos. Lol They make me want to buy more pens. I still haven't bought my pilot 92/74 (leaning heavy to the 92), spending over 100 for a pen is hard for my wife to understand. However, I have wondered about sailor. What would be your suggestion to get into a sailor that really feels like a sailor? Is the Lecoule the best bet for the Writing Experience? Oe should I step up? Or is there a better choice? Then How does that choice compare to the pilot 92/74?
I know what you mean! I'm trying to resist buying any new pens until Christmas and every time ODE makes a video about his Kaweco Sport collection, I start itching to buy one. I own a Kaweco Sport and I have never been tempted to get another until I started watching his videos. Speaking of new pens...If you want to get a feel for how a typical Sailor fountain pen writes, I recommend the Sailor Pro Color 500. It's a steel nib pen that can be gotten on Amazon for $45-$55. I think they are only available in one nib size, fine, but it writes like a fine/medium.
These are two of my favorite pens. I think the Lecoule is a great pen for the price.

I just purchased the Lecoule Rose Quartz from Amazon today. Thanks for your review!

You're welcome! The Sailor Lecoule is a good everyday pen. You can't really go wrong with Sailor, Pilot, or Platinum...all good quality pens.
You just made me break my rule of no more pens this month! I been eyeballing the Lecoule for a while now.
I don’t know whether to say “sorry” or “you’re welcome.” 😉
@@gadgetstop321 lol
Both of those pens are beautiful. Thanks for that in-depth review!
You're welcome! And if you consider the difference in price of these two pens, the Lecoule (the pink quartz) is a fantastic value.

Can you eyedrop the Sailor Lecoule model? It would be a fine pen for me. Thank you for sharing.
Very helpful. I love my LeCoule, but was thinking about trying to upgrade. Maybe not....
Thank you! The upgrade is mainly aesthetic. As with most Japanese pens that I have tried, the entry level pens are very good writers.

I love both models. My LeCoule feels like a much cheaper plastic though. I wonder if they changed them?
That's a good question. My Lecoule feels nice. 🤔
@@gadgetstop321 it’s still nice :) I love it. But mine are definitely different.
Great comparison. Thanks for the review,
You're welcome! 😀
Nice description, i got what i wanted to know
Thank you! I'm glad I could help. 😀
The Pro Gear seems finer than the Lecoule maybe that's why you feel that their wetness is different
You’re probably right.
Have you seen the coral/pink available in the Sailor Pro Gear Slim (called Momo)? I am in LOVE
The Momo is pretty. So is Seri. Honestly, that entire series is beautiful. 😍
