I saw this on a Toyota blog. Of course this person’s car is a 2022, but I wonder if it also applies to your 2021. “ I just found the tire pressure read out for individual wheels. The delivery person at the dealership did not know how to use the information center as he said that the tire pressure was only an idiot light. Use the information center control on the left side of the steering wheel. When the main screen is showing the average MPG, press the left control arrow pointing left, 3 times. Then press the up arrow 3 times and the tire pressure display screen shows up with the 4 wheels.”
Honestly those 5 things arent that serious, Id still say you got a good vehicle. The only thing that seems actually annoying is the start/stop feature, I feel like that would drive me nuts.
No they are not serious at all, they are all honmest complaints but this video was meant to be fun, not serious...I love the car for what its offering...
@@cutlerylover So, likely in a year or so - I'll be switching to an SUV - from an Accord. I'm gravitating towards a Rav4 for the Toyota peace of mind. I'd love a Forester - but considering I hold vehicles for a long time, my concern would be long-term ownership reliability/cost. I just can't imagine it being close, but who knows.
I used to really hate the start stop on my new F 150. After having it on a couple vehicles you start to get used to it. If I use sport mode in the F150 it disables it, but I agree it should be off, unless you as the consumer choose to turn it on.
@iPac9mm you can’t turn it off and leave it off. Yes there is a button to disable it, but you have to push it every time you start your truck or you can always run in sport mode. The point is that you should be able to turn it off once and be done with it.
I hate it too but it is standard these days, at least the start/stop is accessible with your hand on the shifter. Get in car, ignition on, hand on shifter/start stop off, shift and drive. Be happy you can turn it off now, I worry in the future that may no longer be an option
please tell me how to download such an application so that it can see information about my car? another question how to change the distance kilometers speed in analog digital so that the kilometer speed is shown in numbers rav4 2022 xle premium 2.5 gasoline thank you
I also own a 2021 RAV4, and completely agree with you on the stop/start feature being terrible. Fortunately I found on UA-cam a way to disconnect this awful feature. There’s a simple plug right under the hood, which stops the annoyance permanently.
For the start stop feature you can extend it so it doesn’t do it that quickly the tpms is on the dash under the settings if you click and hold on settings there is a way to look at your PSI of each tire hope that helps! 😁
Certain Toyota models do not have the tire pressure on the dash gauges you have to utilize the Toyota app to see your tire pressure or check it manually, my CHR doesn’t have it.
Sorry but different packages and different trims from different years may show TPMS but this one does not, I even had a Toyota certified Tech tell me theres no way to get that info accept the app and he agreed its a way for Toyota to make you download and use their app...
I have the 2019 le.. lowest trim. Complete basics module. Love my rav4.. it has a key 🔑.. this trim is basics of the basics, it doesn't have that start/stop option, and also that stupid push to start crap.
Thinking about picking up a new LE. Any idea if they still kept the the start/stop out of it, or am I going to have to turn it off each time I drive? I noticed the base models also come with steelies & hubcaps, but if they're not significantly heavier than I don't think I care that much...just looks cheap. Whether the steelies or alloys, definitely want a smaller wheel and a fatter tire sidewall for a smoother ride over rough roads. Looking at the light color interior (feels more spacious). I'm reading that they've added some sound deadening under the hood on the newer models as well, hopefully the LE's got it too.
I have the same car, the start / stop feature can be disabled by pulling the hood latch plug , and return it to the socket just far enough so it doesn’t reconnect but, keeps it from rusting. From that time your car will run normal and not shut off.
They must've made a lot of changes between 2021 and 2022... I just got a 2022 rav4 hybrid XLE... The start stop is not even noticable... But it's a hybrid so that's to be expected behavior... The engine is not hot at all. The tire pressure monitor does show on the dash... I'm not particularly fond of the parking brake turning on by itself, but I think I'll get used to it.. maybe there's a way to disable to automatic parking brake when the engine is still on? The horn, I mean, this car is not meant to have "balls" or be a hog on the road... That being said, you can upgrade the horn for anywhere from 20 to 60 bucks (piaa superior for example). For the hybrid at least, sport mode makes a huge difference.. it engages the hybrid engine as well as the electric rear motors, giving it over 200hp and hits 0 to 60 in just under 7 seconds.. it will snap your head back slightly when going from a stop and smashing the gas. Electric, the torque is instant with no build up, which makes a huge difference when working combined with a gas/hybrid engine. (The hybrid has a stand alone 60ish hp electric motor that is strictly for the back wheels). From what I've read and researched, the hybrid is leaps and bounds better than a standard RAV4, with 1 exception... The standard RAV4 has a locking differential so you can get 50 percent power to the front and back wheels... That's a big deal for me cause I live where we can drive on the sand.. I've been trying to find a good mode for sand driving and it seems like the hybrid is good for light duty sand driving at best if you don't want to risk getting stuck. I have a couple of vids on my channel where I was testing it. This is my first Toyota I've owned and I went from a 2009 4wd Yukon V8 to this.. I've been a Chevy man my whole life and I gotta say the rav overall is pretty great
I bought a new SUPERDUTY truck in 2017 that is a bare-bones, plan-jane work truck just to avoid all of these types of digital / tech annoyances. This was a refreshing video as I thought I was the only one annoyed with these things...
Love my 2021 Rav4 but there's one thing I really don't care for - the placement of the gas door release being so close to the hood release. I have accidentally pulled the hood release instead of the gas release many times while at the gas station. Not a huge deal, but I thought it was poorly designed to be so close together.
yes I would do that if my warranty was up but dont want to mess with wiring even if its not suppose to harm anything it might be a good excuse for Toyota to no longer cover warranty issues....I sold this vehicle aftre a year or so becasue it was worth more than I owed and finance Tacoma now...no start stop feature and I get my tire pressure on the dash :) but I did it for more winter capability as well as more storage
I don't have my vehicle yet, but people say that the start stop thing is seamless on the Hybrid because you usually start moving with the battery, so that by the time it starts the car the magnet is spinning very fast, and it starts much easier.
Im not sure about that I have the XLE premium which is 100% gas...All I can say is if you are new to auto start its not good at all however after almost a year now I shut it off with the button initially the same as I start the car its automatic for me to push that button...Its just a learning curve...
I drive alot of cars for work alot of differant ones. I love it when its the end of the day and i get into my old mazda. With all the features i want. Basics no neew eletronic features. Im happy therr are people like jeff still around. Great video as alwags
My last 3 cars have all been Toyota hybrids whose start stop feature all depends on the amount of charge in the battery. In fact if the battery is full when you push the start stop button the motor doesn’t even come on. Also as the Toyota hybrids don’t have a starter motor your reactions are different to standard cars. My present car is a Toyota rx450h love it big car comfortable seats V6 motor but I think they have now changed to a turbo 4. Can’t imagine driving a non hybrid car now. Love getting in pressing and only getting the click of a couple of relays. Press the throttle and start moving on battery power. Depending on the battery charge the motor will start moving the car and recharge the battery. It all works so seamlessly that you don’t even notice the car turning the electric motor on and off.
its such a pointless feature its comparison to the amount of carbon any corporation pumps out isnt even on the same graph one thing it does more damage to is the engine it ruins engine life whats 3 seconds of sitting at a set of traffic lights in comparison to all the plastic floating around in the sea
Usually the Auto Start-Stop can be disabled by default at the dealer, so it's off by default and if you want to use the feature then you press the button.
Next up: 5 things I hate about being a millionaire. That's what complaining about a Toyota is like. They are single handedly the most reliable and capable vehicles on the road and that's coming from a Honda fanboy.
1) Can't charge with usb with vehicle off 2) It's impossible to leave the vehicle running and lock it 3) Even if you leave the accessory on you still have to turn it off to turn it back on thus you have to wait on the car to boot literally every time 4) The incessant beeping of the open door like I know the door's open I just opened it 5) There's simply not enough user settings
Truth is that you don't need a super strong horn to get the job done. I noticed that when I rent cars on vacations with weak city horns. My trucks have strong horns but they're overkill most of the time and the high pitch could send someone in a rage more easily than a weak city horn. There was a study on it I believe about stressed drivers reacting differently to different horn pitch and volume where the louder one was unnecessary and more provoking. Haven't heard of a city horn not working since it was too quiet. I wouldn't mind my 3 trucks having them but I won't spend on getting it modded.
I enjoyed the video and I’d be interested to see what the 5 things you love are. I’m still not used to so many things requiring an app to access many of their functions, but I guess I should get used to it
I also own a 2021 Rav 4; I totally 100% agree with your thoughts on the engine auto on off feature. I HATE IT!!! I also agree that it has a weak horn. The other 3 items you mentioned don’t bother me. All in all, a great vehicle.
I agree with all of these but having no way to check the tire pressure in the vehicle is my biggest pet peeve. The quiet horn and hot hood prop are actually safety issues and really should be dealt with. Thank you for sharing these points.
With the stop/start feature. I keep the brake pedal just soft enough at stop to keep it from activating if I'm at a long light I'll press harder on the brake pedal to activate it.
How about no LED lights on the windows and doors lock buttons or overhead console buttons? The fog lights also suck. I love the sport mode,it tightens the steering making you in control.
Tires pressure monitoring system is a must. Even the cars from 2008 has it, it's a crime that cars this expensive doesn't give that has a standard option
I have a '21 XLE. Sport mode is GREAT for passing. Also the steering tightens up and is noticeably stiffer. Sport mode is fun to use on curvy canyon and mountain roads when you want to really move or get around slow moving motor homes and semis.
I know this is a dumb question, lol, but do you press the Sport button WHILE you're driving, or do you put it in that mode as you're parked and getting ready to go?
@@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 You can do either. While driving you can press sport, eco or normal as you wish. You can do the same while stopped and you can do it with 8 speed auto in Park or Drive.
I bought a new 2021 Subaru Outback this Past fall. It had the start/stop. Hated it. Went back a month later to the dealer and drove a 2021 Subaru Ascent and saw it didn't have that feature... The heavens opened up and light beamed down from above. I bought the Ascent.
Usually it’s the higher trim model that will come with start/stop lower trims most of the time doesn’t.. or Subaru case is updated version of different cars will come with it while the other car that wasn’t completely updated yet to the new interior styles
I agree with the stop start. Just bought a used 2023 RAV4 xle and I thought I got rear ended. Also, when I park, the car would lunge forward. I thought I bought a car with a bad transmission or something.
Can't agree more on the auto start/stop feature. I absolutely hate it on my 2021 VW Tiguan and I also disable it since day one. Everything else you mentioned, is, meh, can live with that. Not sure why e-brake sound is included in this list, tho.
If the push button E brake in on cars with standard transmissions, that could be a problem if starting on a steep hill. In the old days you could pull the emergency brake and let out the clutch as you released the brake. That way you wouldn't roll backwards.
Two things Toyota has never fixed after having 4 of them. 1-Slowest hatch opening in the industry! 2-heated steering wheel not heated all the way around! Fine driving straight, turn a corner, hands go to the cold part. Makes a difference when it’s below zero!
Tech is nice but especially in terms of "safety" features I believe they make people less aware and more reliant on the car to do the real work. My buddy has that accident avoidance on his tacoma and it does some strange stuff when it isn't sure what someone is doing that could cause an accident in my opinion. For example a van pulled off the road in front of us and it freaked out pulsing the brakes and caused us to stop in an unusual way in tern causing the people behind us to also have to. I just don't like invasive stuff that takes my judgment out in place of a nanny computer.
This man so far back in time he’s only speaks fax. take away the drivers skill required and watch it roll into the ditch with the car when it stops you while you should be accelerating for a collision avoidance.
Speaks fax 😂 not gonna lie I just had a flash back to yelling over a fax machine tone to unplug it and answer the phone. Used to get so mad I would rip the receiver off its cord 👴
leaving the dealer my lane assist was one and I was in a construction zone the car was puling me to the wall hard I had to fight it until I realized how to turn it off...it was trying to turn because of the liens in the construction zone were going into the wall...You cant make a car drive it self without human interaction its just not smart enough...
People are too reliant on the safety technology to save them. I had parked my car on the curb (and about two feet into the yard) of a road that could very easily for three cars across. My neighbor backed out of their driveway that was wide enough to do a 3 point turn in, across the two and a half cars worth of road, and straight into my door. She didn’t even try to turn, I was right at the end of the driveway. She claimed “she didn’t see it on the camera.” It’s a bright blue Jeep Wrangler, it’s very hard to miss. And before you say I shouldn’t have parked opposite to their driveway, it was the only available spot, and if she had turned she could have EASILY gone in front or behind. It’s a very short vehicle.
I’m getting the 21’ rav 4 le delivered tomorrow and I did buy the 23’ Prius xle thankful it doesn’t have the start stop feature everyone is talking about. Imma be annoyed with my Rav now more but I need an suv for winter and rav is perfect.
Yes, I do not care for the Start/Stop Feature either. Mainly because it put more wear & tear on your engine and mostly the starter. But Car Companies have to meet emission mandates too. One 'Fix' I can think of for the Prop Rod is to wrap thick 'Gorilla Tape' around the plastic holder to help with the heat.
A couple of those apply to most cars. Hard to avoid start stop. My 2019 GLi doesn’t have it because it’s a manual. I don’t like it either so I am happy about that. Also don’t like the electric emergency brake. Think it’s something else that will just fail at some point. My car has it. Agree the tire pressure info should be in the car.
Havex2021 Rav 4 too and I also hate the start/stop AND the horn! It’s such a sissy horn! I’m like you, I don’t use my horn often, so when I do, I need it to actually work 🤦🏼♀️ But, I also do overall love my car, too
I love sport mode, especially when i need my RPMs to stay at a certain spot. Plus it's really fun to shift the shifter to the left and drive manual for a little while. I love being able to cycle through the gears when i feel like it.
I couldn’t help but notice how these are all modern additions to the vehicle. I drive a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, that thing barely has air bags. It has no computers trying to manage stuff (there is a indicator to shift up, but it’s just a light). My personal favorite is that there’s no massive ugly screen to support a backup camera, just a radio that plays music. The only downsides are that it’s very loud on the highway (absolutely zero sound dampening) and the gas mileage isn’t great (17 average city)
I am on my third RAV4 and love it but it is a '16 hybrid. I really cannot feel the motor cut off and on. That start/stop feature would drive me nuts. I probably would keep it turned off as you do but every time I start the car is to much. It needs a full time permanent turn off.
I agree all these MPG raising features and green earth stuff is to avoid taxes and fines from government and ther EPA hopefully the EPA wont have any involvement in the car industry soon they already got the boot from oil, lol Its like how all these vehicles have turbo 4 and 6 cylinders engines the turbos on a daily do NOT make sense at all but on paper they gte better MPG...no more V8's...
I can get over the noise but dont wish to wear it out as fast by it engaging every single time I put it into park, I only use an ebrake if im parking on a hill so I prefer to do it myself if needed
@@cutlerylover ebrakes usually seize from no use, not that I'm sure it's the same and I can see the motor going out but that's why it's got warranty right now I can see if it will die an early death
They make a wire harness that disables the start stop, it's 120 bucks. Ford also has this feature also, it sucks. Also, if you have a tow option on your rav 4, they also make a harness for that to disable auto start stop, because if your towing it will automatically turn it off.
thanks ive been told by the dealer those harnesses would void the factory warranty so im not messing with it...but the tow option might be a towing I can look into thanks
Both eco and sports mode are annoying to me. Eco just makes the pedal weaker so I just end up having to push it more, problem is that it's not a smooth accelation curve, it makes you either go too slow or accelerate too fast; after using it I see no difference in fuel consumptions, sometimes it even consumes more than usual. Sports is just a waste of fuel, you would only use it for beating the other guy at the traffic light, but even then it's annoying to constantly engage and disengage it. And EV mode in the non-plug-in model is completely useless, it disengages at the minimal acceleration and you're just draining the battery for nothing anyways.
I don’t like that the accessory mode only lasts about 15 minutes if I want to sit somewhere and just enjoy some music. The car says something like powering down to conserve the battery.
All my life I wanted a brand new Rav4 Hybrid. I finally bought a brand new 2023 and I loved the hybrid, the ground clearance and the 4 wheel drive. I was so in love that I totally ignored the drastic design flaws. The roof is two inches too low. I am 5'10" and I bang my head every time I get in and out and what's even worse is the serious visibility flaws. When I look 30 degrees to the right the rear view mirror is directly in front of my face. If I want to look 30 degrees to the right I have to duck my head down to see underneath the rear view mirror. After four months of constantly banging my head and serious visibility problems I am now sorry that I ever bought a RAV4 at all. Plus I heard of a new class action law suit because the moon roof drains are short circuiting the air bags which it claims Toyota knew about but failed to fix which the customer must now pay to fix. After four months of living with this car I'm now sorry I ever bought a RAV4.
Yeah man that start stop feature would most likely be a deal breaker for me...especially if you couldn't turn it off. I drive a 2007 avalanche with just now a 100k on it, we will be getting something newer in a year or so and I am definitely going to look for something that does NOT have that lol, thanks Jefferson, great vid
@@Shanes_Sharp_Sheet If you just press lightly on the brake pedal, the auto stop won’t trigger. That all you have to do. Super easy and you don’t have to remember to press the button.
I bought my Mazda CX3 last year and the only thing I don't like is the fact that there is no storage inside the car. No little compartments or anything to hold things. Only ones are on the doors. You have to raise the arm rest to get to the cup holder.
The tire pressure thing is one of my pet peeves as well. I also hate how loud the blinker is! Maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's excessively loud. Oh, and the fact that theres only a storage pouch on the back of the passenger side seat. Why isnt there one on the driver side? I dont even really use them. I just find it odd. I do absolutely love the car, though. Guess wvery car has its quirks.
I wonder if you could convince a dealer to disable the start/stop feature or if there’s a secret way to permanently disable yourself. That’d be a deal breaker for me too. Also don’t think cars should have to use apps….
Not sure on this cars setup but if it has 2 batteries you should be able to disconnect and remove the gokart battery it’ll permanently shut startstop off, you’ll end up with the same light complained about in the vid but at least you don’t have to press the button
I am guessing start/stop is mandatory as on most new cars I know. I hate it as well. You should be able to turn off only once and stays that way until you turn back on. I found if you stop then ease up on the brake it won’t shut off. Works on a Telluride.
I own a '17 XLE Rav4 and my biggest dislike was the stereo system. It does not have the premium sound and boy was that obvious! The sound was pathetic. I recently replaced the head unit with an Apple CarPlay, 50 watts per channel Pioneer. What a difference! But thank goodness my 2017 does not have those 5 hateful things!
Physical e-brakes take up a lot of space, it's hard to miss it other than the experience of using them. The better use of space is quickly appreciated assuming it's used well.
I have a '21 Highlander and luckily the Auto start stop doesn't engage that easily. I have to depress the brake further than I normally would at a stop basically with a lead foot before the Auto start stop will engage. I have 1700 miles on the car and never had it turn on yet besides once to test it out. Funny when the TPMS, it's opposite for me, I guess the Highlanders do have a TPMS reading on the dash but I can never get it on the App!
If you go to the trip / distance screen on the dash and scroll up or down, you’ll see the tire pressure screen and can see all 4 tire pressures. Also - another stupid feature on the RAV4 is having the gas door release lever right next to,AND IDENTICAL TO, the hood release lever.
thanks but no its not equipped on my model, there are many factors like trim AND the packages you buy, BUT also they want to sell the info to you in their APP if you dont have it on the vehicle...you may see it on yours but they are not all like that...I even talked to a certified toyota mechanic at my local dealer if they cna program it on mine he said no either it comes from the factory that way or it doesn't, but I do appreciate the help anyway...
So I got the same car as yours what I don't like about mine is the liftgate. I just don't understand why they never make the key fob with the lift gate on there. And I don't like E-break either I think it's annoying.
The idea is if you had a problem driving and had to pull over to check it the engine would be very very hot and so would the prop...hense the complaint...so yes, really, its my complaint and cant be wrong since its mine lol...
I drive a 2000 Dodge Durango. I honestly can say I do love everything about my truck. its got all the room I need and its got a V8, so its definitely not a slouch by any means. I do hate the rust problem of Wisconsin though. I'm sure you being a person of the relatively same climate can agree that a nice ride can become a rust bucket in a matter of years.
Stop-start technology wears out engines faster, too. So does the technology which turns off fuel to some of the cylinders to cruise. TPMS sensors are such a pain in the ass. I completely agree. It should not be considered intimidating for people to check their tires' pressure every so often. The one time it came in handy for me was when I picked up a nail. The light came on before I felt degradation in ride quality, and I quickly knew I had to pull over. However, excepting such rare occasions, it's only beneficial for people who literally never check their tires. I completely agree parking brakes should be manual. It's one of those features which lose all benefit when the battery dies. It's not a sound thing for me (I've never had a car with an electronic parking brake), but it must entirely be manual, with a cable. Horns can be replaced! There are some pretty good options available on the internet. I've been tempted to replace mine as well -- I'm even a fan of those videos of people putting in multiple horn sounders (one of the times simplified modern electronics comes so much in handy!) to great effect.
Most wear and tear happens when the engine is cold. Once it's warm, I don't think start-stop makes any difference. Case in point, many NYC cabs have start-stop and are still on original engines after 400k miles.
Makes me not want to buy a new car! I work at a Toyota Dealer in the parts department too! Maybe that is why I have kept my old Tacoma for so long, I have more control over it. I did change out the wimpy "beep beep" horn to a newer model horn that has more umph to it though. I am real picky about what features are on my car, I do not like the start/stop feature, it needs to go away period! Good luck with the Rav.
@@cutlerylover Toyota's are great vehicles but they also have their challenges. The more fancy electronic stuff they add on, the more to break and when it does it's expensive!
@@thegonger1 Thats very true across the board these days...When I got tyhe car I told my dad all about the safety sense halfway through he said and I knew it was coming..." more crap to break" lmao
2017 Frontier 5 Speed manual. I hate that it doesn't have a factory backup camera. Being my first truck, it was a little intimidating backing up. Installed one immediately.
I‘m totally with you on the horn. It doesn’t sound good. Sounds like the deep horn of a dual-tone horn is broken and only the high pitch one is left working.
I have a Mazda that I love. What I absolutely hate is the Mazda nav. When I select a destination, for example Go Home, the first press it shows navigate home? So I have to press the button again and then on the screen it has a 10 second timer before it starts navigating, so I have to press the button a 3rd time. Whoever programmed that to work that way should be fired. And forget trying to use voice to find a destination. It sometimes brings up a music list when I say "Go to Home Deopt". And like you said, I hate the e-brakes because I can not feather it while driving. It is either 100% on or 100% off. I hit it once when I was moving and it was not a good experience.
Jeff, just FYI on the auto start/stop. I seriously dislike it as well. It makes me feel like the car died (like my old 1999 beater), but it's set default on so that car brands can get better EPA ratings in the "standard driving mode". Something you may want to try is leaving the car in sport mode with auto start/stop turned off. If you shut the car down in sport mode and turn it back on, some models have the sport mode remember the auto start setting. Good luck and great car!
It’s not that difficult. Just don’t press so hard on the brake pedal when you stop and you don’t trigger the auto stop. Your brake pedal pads will probably last longer too if you don’t press the pedal any harder than you need to to keep the car from rolling at stops.
Sounds like my old Camry horn - beep beep - rather unoffensive and playful which is likely the intention. It was loud though. 'Sport' mode - again, I had the same on the 80's Camry - ECT button they called it. You could floor it and it would basically redline before changing gears. I suppose, useful for highway passing. The horn on my Accord is pretty loud & offensive, like an old American car.
Sport mode is useful on twisty roads and hills. Also, some prefer to drive more aggressive regardless of what they drive. It makes steering and shifting more responsive..perhaps it shouldn't be called Sport mode just for people who get confused at its usefulness
Jeff, wouldn't having the engine of your car automatically shut off and then turning back on every time you come to a complete stop cause premature engine wear and totally kill the lifespan of your car's starter motor?
Yes and im sure it does lol on some cars the starter is electric instead of mechanical which might help but offhand I dont know if this one is electric or not...
I think the starter motors are beefier to cope with the constant starting. Premature wear, I don't think so, as most wear and tear happens when the engine is cold. Should be a non-issue once warmed up. Case in point, many NYC cabs have start-stop and are still on original engines after 400k miles.
@@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 Wear and tear occurs on cold starts. Auto start stop is only active after the engine is up to operating temp. So the more frequent restarts aren't causing any extra wear and tear.
The start stop "feature" is mandatory in Europe I think, you even get it in a Ferrari 488 Pista. My usual starting procedure is: Disable start stop > put on sport mode > disable esc (sometimes) Feels like you're piloting a plane (not really).

No they are not serious at all, they are all honmest complaints but this video was meant to be fun, not serious...I love the car for what its offering...
The start/stop-feature is hard to avoid though. Some cars have it for over 10 years now. Though that bumping seems weird on this particular vehicle.
These things would drive me crazy.
Can it be disabled permanently?
The point is that you should be able to turn it off once and be done with it.
ua-cam.com/video/x_mCKrdfzr4/v-deo.html
The Start/Stop mode is on all new cars as a federal mandate. You can always install an Auto-Start/Stop Eliminator from the aftermarket.
I have a 2022 XLE Hybrid RAV4 and only have one complaint . The inside door handle is a bit to forward and feels awkward closing the door.
How do you extend it?

I think on the LE you can upgrade to alloy wheels 17"
I drive a 2021 Rav4 here in Sydney, Australia. You are spot on about what you hate, apart from that, I love the car.
Love my 2021 Rav4 but there's one thing I really don't care for - the placement of the gas door release being so close to the hood release. I have accidentally pulled the hood release instead of the gas release many times while at the gas station. Not a huge deal, but I thought it was poorly designed to be so close together.
I have lost count how many times I pop the hood instead the gas door. LOL
5:09. There is a small wiring harness that can be bought and installed that will allow the tpms data to display on dash. Saw it on youtube
yes I would do that if my warranty was up but dont want to mess with wiring even if its not suppose to harm anything it might be a good excuse for Toyota to no longer cover warranty issues....I sold this vehicle aftre a year or so becasue it was worth more than I owed and finance Tacoma now...no start stop feature and I get my tire pressure on the dash :) but I did it for more winter capability as well as more storage
I believe the auto engine off/on needs to be enabled by default to count for EPA testing.
I agree. I think all new cars have it.
its such a pointless feature its comparison to the amount of carbon any corporation pumps out isnt even on the same graph one thing it does more damage to is the engine it ruins engine life whats 3 seconds of sitting at a set of traffic lights in comparison to all the plastic floating around in the sea
@@victoriaevelyn3953 I agree. I wouldn't buy a car with start stop. Most new cars don't have that feature.
Usually the Auto Start-Stop can be disabled by default at the dealer, so it's off by default and if you want to use the feature then you press the button.
You don’t need to do all that. Just don’t press the brake pedal so hard and you won’t trigger the auto stop.
Next up: 5 things I hate about being a millionaire. That's what complaining about a Toyota is like. They are single handedly the most reliable and capable vehicles on the road and that's coming from a Honda fanboy.
1) Can't charge with usb with vehicle off
2) It's impossible to leave the vehicle running and lock it
3) Even if you leave the accessory on you still have to turn it off to turn it back on thus you have to wait on the car to boot literally every time
4) The incessant beeping of the open door like I know the door's open I just opened it
5) There's simply not enough user settings
Truth is that you don't need a super strong horn to get the job done. I noticed that when I rent cars on vacations with weak city horns. My trucks have strong horns but they're overkill most of the time and the high pitch could send someone in a rage more easily than a weak city horn. There was a study on it I believe about stressed drivers reacting differently to different horn pitch and volume where the louder one was unnecessary and more provoking. Haven't heard of a city horn not working since it was too quiet. I wouldn't mind my 3 trucks having them but I won't spend on getting it modded.
you can check the tp in the car, its either where the trip is or the second one beside the digital speed
All in all, a great vehicle.
ua-cam.com/video/x_mCKrdfzr4/v-deo.html
I agree with all of these but having no way to check the tire pressure in the vehicle is my biggest pet peeve. The quiet horn and hot hood prop are actually safety issues and really should be dealt with.
Thank you for sharing these points.
very first thing i did on my RAV was change the stupid meep meep horn
With the stop/start feature. I keep the brake pedal just soft enough at stop to keep it from activating if I'm at a long light I'll press harder on the brake pedal to activate it.
How about no LED lights on the windows and doors lock buttons or overhead console buttons? The fog lights also suck. I love the sport mode,it tightens the steering making you in control.
Tires pressure monitoring system is a must. Even the cars from 2008 has it, it's a crime that cars this expensive doesn't give that has a standard option
The auto stop start is on most new vehicles and nobody likes it.
@@SwordsCutEmDown Thanks so much for replying!! Nobody explained that to me when I picked up my RAV4, appreciate it very much! God bless you!
Just adjust the start stop pedal pressure to be really hard so it doesn't kick on unless you apply really hard pressure
I like the kick, I want the pedal to be responsive, if you want laggy response buy a CVT.
Not sure why e-brake sound is included in this list, tho.
that hood prop complaint tho lmao
You might be on to something given the 42k auto accidents in 2020 when many were not traveling or driving. An 8% increase over 2019.
My 2021 RAV4 engine only stops when you press the brake pedal more at stop
Forgot #6, the loud engine.
#7 power windows buttons do not illuminate.
Agreed. For the 22 models they made the window buttons backlit.
I’m with you on the start stop feature. I hate it! I have the 2021 Rav4 also. My hood stays up by itself. Overall I love the vehicle though.

One 'Fix' I can think of for the Prop Rod is to wrap thick 'Gorilla Tape' around the plastic holder to help with the heat.
ua-cam.com/video/x_mCKrdfzr4/v-deo.html
A couple of those apply to most cars. Hard to avoid start stop. My 2019 GLi doesn’t have it because it’s a manual. I don’t like it either so I am happy about that. Also don’t like the electric emergency brake. Think it’s something else that will just fail at some point. My car has it. Agree the tire pressure info should be in the car.
Havex2021 Rav 4 too and I also hate the start/stop AND the horn! It’s such a sissy horn! I’m like you, I don’t use my horn often, so when I do, I need it to actually work 🤦🏼♀️ But, I also do overall love my car, too
I wonder if there is a way to permamently turned the auto off feature, off?
Start/stop feature will wear out the engine faster, which will likely negate all the savings in gas.
Why would you turn off auto ebrake? Not the biggest fan of the electric ebrake but it is nice that it's automatic
@@macro820 Only time will tell but the warranty would hopefully fix it either way :)
I just reserved a 22 RAV4 XSE at msrp. My wife and I are not set on it but can switch our reservation to another vehicle if we don’t like it.
I don’t like that the accessory mode only lasts about 15 minutes if I want to sit somewhere and just enjoy some music. The car says something like powering down to conserve the battery.
Our 2016 Rav4 dos not any of your 5 pet peeves. Will have to keep it for for a lot longer. 10 years & hope for better things on 2026 Rav4 .
Why did the eliminate the auto on at desk headlights?
The tire pressure display is usually placed in higher trims not the lower models.

@@Lairdoestuff You don’t need to change anything on the vehicle. Just don’t press hard on the brake pedal at stops and the auto stop doesn’t trigger.
There’s a plug right by the hood latch on the inside of the engine bay. You just disconnect it and it’s gone for good
I am guessing start/stop is mandatory as on most new cars I know. I hate it as well. You should be able to turn off only once and stays that way until you turn back on. I found if you stop then ease up on the brake it won’t shut off. Works on a Telluride.
My CR-V has the same start stop annoyance. No way to disable it my default so every time I start the car in need to disable it.
Test drove a 22 rav4 adventure model and the radio sound was a joke as well even the radio itself was a joke looked like a screen from 2010
The start stop is annoying at first but you get used to it. Lol I always forget it’s a thing now. It’s an adjustment but not a big deal.
Great vid! “Weak sauce” horn😂. I thought I loved that car. Too many electronics for me. Thanks for the insight. 👍
lol no problem I didnt even touch upon all the other stuff like lane assist and adaptive cruise control, it id chock full of tech...
Really the hood prop?? How many times do you open ur hood lmao
The idea is if you had a problem driving and had to pull over to check it the engine would be very very hot and so would the prop...hense the complaint...so yes, really, its my complaint and cant be wrong since its mine lol...
At the very least you have to open it for washer fluid and depending on where you drive, that can be more often than you think.
Didn't you realize the car had a start stop feature when you test drove it?
Is a sensor by the top of the radiator you can disconnect for the stop & start system
PA winters eats cars alive here too...sad but no garage means half the vehicles life for sure...
@@cutlerylover yup. mine is succumbing to the same fate. bolts break and bumpers rust. the joys of owning a ride.

I think it supposed to sound like a European car.
@@DAS-Videos European cars also don’t sound like that.
So if you have a dead battery you have no way to set the parking break?
Start and stop feature,..for $25 you can install relay in less than 15 minutes which ALWAYS deactivates this mode!!
The horn on my Accord is pretty loud & offensive, like an old American car.
what about the rattling noise when car startup and idling?
Sport mode is useful on twisty roads and hills. Also, some prefer to drive more aggressive regardless of what they drive. It makes steering and shifting more responsive..perhaps it shouldn't be called Sport mode just for people who get confused at its usefulness
Can you leave the air conditioning on to make the start stop stay off?
Does it have smooth ride on highway 🛣 like Camry? Or it’s bumpy
One more thing to that list - no backlit window & door lock switches inside the car.
@@MikeKayK I heard a mechanic say that using the start/stop feature will wear out your engine sooner.
@@repentjesusiscomingsoon1529 Wear and tear occurs on cold starts. Auto start stop is only active after the engine is up to operating temp. So the more frequent restarts aren't causing any extra wear and tear.
i have 2020 RAV4 XLE and i HATE Start/Stop button. Everytime time i start engine, i have to push Start/Stop button everytime.
Thanks for sharing what you hate about your RAV4 car hybrid. Can’t believe Toyota hasn’t addressed these problems?
The start stop "feature" is mandatory in Europe I think, you even get it in a Ferrari 488 Pista.
My usual starting procedure is: Disable start stop > put on sport mode > disable esc (sometimes)
Feels like you're piloting a plane (not really).
