It never fails, since I bought the record almost 50 years ago, when the 7.00 minute mark arrives in this song, a shiver runs through my body while my eyes get wet. A feeling of absolute pleasure and happiness. I listen to and enjoy all kinds of music, but Genesis and Peter Gabriel are the ones that marked my adolescence the most, then I got carried away by New wave, electronics, a lot of black music, etc. I love good music and I can never be thankful enough that my sister, in 1976, brought me a gift from London, A Trick of the Tail, fresh out of the oven. Then I discovered the band and, little by little, bought all of the past, present records of Genesis and former members, including Brand X. I got to have more than 40 Genesis vinyls, although I think the last one I bought was Duke, the later was already too much. commercial. Anyway, thanks Peter, Mike, Tony, Steve, Phill and even Anthony Phillips for making my life more enjoyable. See you forever!

Best song of the album and also my favorite Genesis song!
The moment I became a fan of Genesis, in the early 80's listening to FM radio at night, court of the crimson king came on the radio, I enjoyed it, but it didn't hook me like the next tune that came on. Then they played Genesis' your own special way, and I knew immediately there was something unique about that band. That song was the hook for me. Little did I know there was more massive work I had yet to hear, like this one.
Take T. S. Eliot's "The Waste Land", add some visionary lyrics by Peter, surround with Tony keyboards, Steve and Mike guitars, Phil drums. Let it go (since 1973) and listen to a masterpiece you'll never get tired of .
Phil stated, when discussing Selling England by the Pound a few years ago, that the lyrics were written either by Peter and Tony, or Peter and Mike, but in this interview from 1974, Peter himself clearly states that the lyrics were written by Mike and Tony. Selling England by the Pound was my introduction into Progressive Rock back in 2001. Couldn't of picked a better album as an introduction if I tried. Not only is it my favourite Genesis album, it's one of my top ten favourite albums overall.
I started following these guys in the early 70’s. Concerts, LP’s. I was hooked. But what I wanna say is that the first 2 minutes of this song is one of the most precious pieces of music I’ve ever heard, before it goes into the more lively sections. Delicate and simply lovely.
I've been listening to this song for 20 years. It never ceases to amaze me. It manages to give me shivers every time. I can only say Thank you for creating this beauty.
I Remember hearing for the 1st time to GENESIS in the 80's ... With Phil Collins as lead...But When I Heard Peter's Lead Voice...I was Hooked...💯💯💯💯💜💜💜💜🌼🦊🌕
Fell in love with the band when Trick of the Tail came but didn't see them in concert at the Philly Spectrum until the Duke tour. Loved ever album and concert I could go to or get my hands on.
This is the first time I've heard this song...and I'm really sad knowing I will never get the experience of listening to this for the first time again.
If you listen where the chorus says "Can she be late for her cinema show....cinema show", you notice how Phil's voice slowly overtakes Peter's. Brilliantly done.

Steve Hackett on that guitar. Whooooo! 🥰🥰🥰
This album is a masterpiece. Full stop.
Jaaa
This upload feel like an event, I like seeing a lot of fans excited as I am.
first heard this on "underground" fm station back in the day....been my favorite Genesis album since!
Me too, 50 years later. Lamb Lies Down is amazing as well.
goosebumps and jaw dropping song
Selling England by the Pound was my introduction into Progressive Rock back in 2001. Couldn't of picked a better album as an introduction if I tried. Not only is it my favourite Genesis album, it's one of my top ten favourite albums overall.
Straordinario. Unico. Irripetibile rock sinfonico.
Incredible job by Tony and Phil in this piece!!!
I discovered GENESIS IN 2019, and the first part of the group with Peter Gabriel , not after, makes me reveal a world of genius music !!!!!
Five pieces group
The best 5 piece band ever .
🤨
Sit back and let that solo just hit you…
Those organ chords behind the synth…
Oh there you are Peter!!❤️
This and "firth of fifth" easily the best tracks of the album.
I started following these guys in the early 70’s. Concerts, LP’s. I was hooked. But what I wanna say is that the first 2 minutes of this song is one of the most precious pieces of music I’ve ever heard, before it goes into the more lively sections. Delicate and simply lovely.
I heard it when I was a little child, it was magic for me, like I was diving into a secret world❤
Beautifully put. I never know how to explain to others how this album makes me feel, but you nailed it.
I've been listening to this song for 20 years. It never ceases to amaze me. It manages to give me shivers every time. I can only say Thank you for creating this beauty.
We are together dude 😊
The part from 5:21 ongoing is of great beauty.....Genesis will always stay one of my favourite bands....until the day I die!
Long live the Spectrum!!! So sad that they tore it down...
Trick of the Tail is about as perfect as an album can be. I'll listen to that next. Been a fan since 1972. This stuff never gets old to me.
I am fascinated by the drums.
Its my Heart.
This is the first time I've heard this song...and I'm really sad knowing I will never get the experience of listening to this for the first time again.
but you will listen to it hundreds of times and each time is just as good as the last!
Absolute masters.
Operas! Symphonies! Loving it! Music for GOD!
My fav band ever 1973 heard this 7th grade san jose ca gabriel n collins the best
Best Genesis Song
If you listen where the chorus says "Can she be late for her cinema show....cinema show", you notice how Phil's voice slowly overtakes Peter's. Brilliantly done.
Sorry. Nothing against Phil, but Peter was the voice, and the brain( brilliant!), from Genesis.
@@sofiawiborg4799 Agreed he may have been the early brains behind Genesis but Steve was the Prog soul of the band and it disappeared when he left.
