      No problem at all. Funny enough, a few people have been asking about this recently. I have no plans to change the power steering fluid at this point, but I may make a video since it's requested often. As for the interval, Infiniti doesn't really have one, just to be inspected often for degradation and change as needed. I think 150000kms/ 93000 miles is a good number, but that's not a definitive number. Inspect the fluid and change as needed. I may make a video, but it will be a bit from now if I do

      Awesome news, glad to hear the video is helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
      I have not done the tensioner myself, but on the surface, it is not hard. Once you remove the belt, it is just 2 upper bolts that hold it in place. The tricky part will be the lack of space and some patience, as it is not that easy to get to. You may get some help from a socket u joint to help get in there. Otherwise, just 2 bolts to get it off, and install the new one. I pulled up the spec, and it tightens to 18 ft lbs, so they are not very tight either. Hope this helps.

      Unfortunately, I don't have a video on the AC compressor at this time. It's not a terribly hard job to do, but it's a bit annoying to get to. Make sure to get the AC Refrigerant removed first before you work (most local shops will do it for you, some do it free, some charge). And then you'll have to get the system recharged when you finish the replacement

      Is it possible? Yes. But it's not an easy job at all. I can't even make a video on it at this point. The power steering fluid needs to be drained, along with the coolant from the block. A whole bunch of stuff needs to be disconnected or removed, including the belt, belt tensioner, the right timing cover and the timing chain tensioner, amongst a bunch of other stuff. It's driven by the timing chain, so you have to get in there to remove it.

    I have a 2013 infinity JX35 which has developed a knocking sound inside the cabin. Hear mostly at idle and sound changes with engine rpm. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  2 роки тому +1

      Great to hear the video was enjoyable. Thanks!
      So hard to say what the knocking is. First thing I would say is to confirm if it's engine, transmission, or something else (ie blower motor)
      1. Turn the car on, but don't start it. So the electronics are on. Do you hear the noise? If yes, then it's not the engine or transmission. If no, move on to the next step.
      2. Start the car. Leave the car in park. Rev the engine. Does the knocking increase, or not? If yes, then it is likely something internal with the engine. If not move on.
      Now, it is hard to say without knowing the sound and type of noise. For example, under the car, there is a heat shield for the exhaust, and if this got loose, then it would be knocking around as the engine speed increased. It could be something simple like that or something worse like bent valves or something like that.
      Once you do the above tests, it'll give some direction on what to look at next

    • @jamesploscyca6890

    • @jamesploscyca6890
      @jamesploscyca6890 2 роки тому +1

      1. No sound with only electronics on.
      2. Loudest sound at low rpm. Sound follows rpm of engine. When I rev engine hard to tell if sound goes away or is just so fast that I cannot hear it.
      3. Did find a broken fastener on the heat shield (thin metal band). I removed it and made sure heat shield was secure. Knocking sound still there
      4. Noticed that the sound changes pitch a little when AC compressor engages.
      5. Also the sound seems a bit muffled (like exhaust sound) rather than a hard metal clacking.
      6. I bought a stethoscope to assist in locating the sound but no luck so far.
      7. I recently did an oil change and spilled a little oil in the engine compartment. May have gotten on the serpentine belt but not sure. Hard to see.
      Thanks for you input.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  2 роки тому +1

      @@jamesploscyca6890 awesome! Thanks for being so thorough! You even covered some stuff I didn't get to yet! Fantastic!
      Once again, this is an armchair diagnosis, so I may be wrong, but hopefully it gives some direction.
      If noise is not present with key on, engine off, then we can remove electronics like the blower motor and blend doors from the equation at this point.
      If the noise is present with the engine on, but car in park, we can generally eliminate the transmission and transfer case, if you have an awd model. So we are floating around the engine.
      There isn't a lot of moving/rotational objects in the engine that can cause a knock. Some are much more difficult, like pistons, connecting rods, valves/valve springs, crankshaft, Camshaft, etc. There are easier things, like the exhaust, belt, pulleys. And then there is things that are easy to fix, but hard to determine, like a loose bolt somewhere or something worn (like a engine mount).
      So generally, I would start with the easier stuff.
      First...you mentioned accidental oil spillage. Was the noise there before that happened? Did it start shortly afterwards?
      Do you notice the noise louder when the engine is colder, and it goes away when it warms up, or is it pretty consistent?
      Really, I would be checking the belt to make sure it's secure, and has no damage, like fraying. It's hard to see in motion on this car, but see if you can take a look and see if you can see any play in a pulley. If not, maybe take the belt off and check each pulley manually to see if there is any movement and play. Since the AC seems to have some affect on it, I am leaning in this direction first. It could be your AC too. Check and see if it engages and disengages (if not sure about this, ask and I'll give some tips).
      For the exhaust, check if any of the exhaust flanges are loose. A good simple check is get a rubber mallet and tap around the exhaust, and see if you can pick up on a similar noise. Doesn't hurt to have someone in the car with the engine running and blipping the throttle every once-in-a-while to see if you can further determine the noise (of course, be safe when they are doing this) But if you're like me, there is often no one around lol.
      These are the best case scenarios, really. Anything else is really internal on the engine, or external but very hard to locate. Hope this helps gets you a step closer to locating the noise

    • @jamesploscyca6890
      @jamesploscyca6890 2 роки тому +1

      @@NexusAuto Thank you for your comprehensive response. Will take a while to follow up on all your suggestions but will get back to you. Appreciate you taking the time to assist.
      Latest observations.
      1. No knocking when car is first started during idle.
      2. Noise stops when coasting down a hill. As the car slows the noise starts when the engine speed is around 1000 rpm. I can feel something kicking in around 1k rpm during this test and the knocking starts.
      3. Seems like no knocking above 1000 rpm, starts at 1k rpm and lower.

  • @mikevladu9420
    @mikevladu9420 2 роки тому +1

    Hi there
    It’s me again I am loosing my marble after I changed the drive belt, I realized that the main squeaking noise was actually the ball bearing from AC compressor…..so I went to a shop and changed the AC compressor…..now the noise is gone but my ventilation systems working fine for about 20 minutes after that you can hear the blower working but no air coming trough the vents….even if you put the blower to maximum….if you turn the car off and wait couple of minutes and start the car it works again!!!
    Any ideas????
    I been to Infiniti dealership and they verified everything including AC pressure and after $185 fee they said they can’t replicate the defect!!!!

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  2 роки тому

      Hmm, honestly Mike, this is truly a hard one without being there to test. There could be a multitude of things causing this, from a system glitch, to full on cpu issue of some sort.
      Ultimately, if the blower is going, but no air is coming through, then there is likely an issue with the blend door system directing air. I assume you tried this both with the fan on low, and high, and on climate control? If not, I would start with that, as it would help isolate the issue. You mentioned running the fan on high, but not sure if you tried all the other fan speeds, and the climate system as well.
      Also, when the heating stops working, check a few other systems, like the radio, wipers, horn, etc. Again, helps to narrow it down.
      Possible early troubleshooting is
      1. In the in-car fuse box, there is a breaker, It is near the middle, and is a white switch you can pull. You can pull this to reset some of the car interior systems. Please note, this will reset things like your trip meter, stereo settings, etc. You may want to write them down.
      2. If this does not work, disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait about an hour (at least). This can help reset many computer systems as well
      3. If not, my *guess* is the blend door actuator. It could be malfunctioning or overheating. I would have a shop check this system out.
      Hope this helps a bit. It wont necessarily fix the issue, but should get you started.

      @jrburgoon 2 роки тому +1

      I've done it. (not for the faint of heart: I wouldn't want anyone to see the video! ) Here's the critical deal: it CAN be done without removing the front bumper/radiator etc--despite what the factory manual suggests (which makes this a $2500-$3500 job at the dealer or many shops I suspect). Specifically, with persistence, the alternator can be massaged it in and out of the space with the radiator in place. Remaining big issue: - you must remove the A/C compressor -- which requires a recharge of the system on reassembly. I decided to do everything else but the a/c recharge. -- but took the car to a pro to use his big expensive recharging machine--which added $150 as I recall. Still, It's tough -- the wires are hard to reinsert, , etc. --fooling with AC coolant pipes is scary (just for fear of breaking them when nudging them out of the way.) Still I'm no pro, and my alternator and a/c are just fine -- though I stupidly didn't change the belt at the time -- and so am revisiting this video now!

As per the service manual, after 60000 miles (90000 kms), it should be inspected every 15000 miles (24000 kms) or once a year, whichever comes first. @@NexusAuto yes thank god, this is a very good car, in 180k miles just did regular maintenance (oil change, brakes, and air filters) no more. And it worked great, now I'm doing all preventive maintenance, I was feeling guilty. 😅

      @@amoryunidad Glad to hear the car is treating you well. It is the same with me. My belt, spark plugs, etc, were still in pretty good condition. But I work ahead for personal maintenance, and honestly, to make the videos on these tasks. I love the JX and have 0 regrets in owning it. Once it is maintained, it will go far!

    Friends, my 2014 QX is squealing a little upon startup. I'm thinking it's a worn serpentine belt. We've owned this car for about 10k miles and didn't get many details on the history. It's sitting around 203K now. Any feedback is appreciated... I have done a couple of oil changes and trans service so far.

      @tonysmith238 hard to truly say without being there to hear it, but what you're describing definitely sounds like it could be the belt...that is one of the symptoms. Best way to tell is to wait until the engine is cold and have someone start while you listen out. There is always a possibility that one of the pulleys is making noise, but at 203k, the belt would be due anyways.

    Do you still have the JX35? If so any idea where the IBA or ICC sensor is located? I believe it is the same sensor for both. My "IBA off" light is on and "malfunction see owners manual" message is on the dash. I know this can happen if the sensor gets dirt on it. I have searched everywhere online and the only clue I can find is that it is hidden behind the front passengers side bumper just below the tow hook door. I still can not find it. And there is no visible evidence that you can actually see like on most cars which does not make sense to me. I know you are THE MAN when it comes to the JX35's so I'm really hopeful you can tell me where it is so I can try cleaning it off. I have tried all the menu options on the steering wheel but nothing helps. Thanks.

      Hey. Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I was off for a few days.
      I do still have my JX35. It's going strong as of now.
      Believe it or not, you are on the right track with the ICC sensor. It is located in the area you described, but can only be seen with the front bumper off. They are notorious for getting dirty and not reading correctly. So unfortunately, unlike many other vehicles (including other Nissan products), it's not something you can clean easily by hand. However, I've found that just spraying water around the front bumper area, particularly with a pressure washer, seems to work overall. My guess is water gets in around the grill/headlight/fog light area and it's enough to clean off the sensor.
      Hope that helps. And thanks for the great comments too. Much appreciated!

    how do I know I got a bad belt? I am trying to narrow down where the squeal is coming from.

    • @NexusAuto

      A few things you can check
      With the car off
      1. Check the belt for any signs of damage, including cracks, fraying, small rips or chunks missing in the ribs/ridges
      2. Press on the belt, it should be firm. If is very flexible or can be pushed in very easily, it is worn
      With the car running
      1. Visually check the belt. Does it spin, then very briefly stop, then continue spinning on the pulleys? It can be too loose
      2. Another visual check. It should be spinning smoothly along the pulleys. does it look like it is wobbling or shaking? It may need changing.
      Hope this helps.
