Thank you very much. It came in handy trying to help out a lady who blew a tire. I had no idea what I was getting myself into changing an Infiniti's tire.
Although i have roadside on my car this is good to know in case you were somewhere without cell signal, Keep up the good work, your videos are always very helpful
Thanks, I appreciate the great comments!. I completely agree, many people either have roadside, CAA/AAA, or anything like that. But you never know when it will come in handy. Thanks for watching and feedback!
Nice, thorough vid. I have a 2020 QX60 and that's why I viewed this. This also reminded me of the issue I had with my '01 F350 that has a similar under mounted spare tire system. The cable somehow got jambed up and ended up shreaded to the point it wouldn't drop or raise the spare, so I removed and disassembled the box that holds the cable spooled up by drilling out the rivets, then removed the bad cable and replaced it with new cable and fastened up the box with bolts and nuts. Works like new again. Avoided what would have been a rip off price from the stealership for a new box. Gotta be creative these days. Hah....
Thanks! And I hear that! Gotta do what you gotta do! You did an awesome job on replacing the cable. Such a common problem on vehicles with this set up!
Great video. The first time I had a flat after owning my 2013 JX 35 since 2012. My spare was rotten. At least I made it safely to tire shop. Now I need a new spare to replace the rotten out one. Any suggestions other than the $800 dollar plus for a new Infiniti spare tire?
Great to hear the video helped you out in a pinch! Sucks to hear about the spare tire condition. You can look around at some tire shops to see if they have very good quality used tires. It's just for the spare, so sometimes they will have spare tires. Also, you can check online like Craigslist or even a junkyard, if there's one close by to you. In fact, my current set of winter tires on my JX were bought at a junkyard, and they've been great. Look around and see what's out there
Keep in mind, this should only be used if you have a full blowout. This process will take you the better part of 45 minutes to an hour. Every one of my vehicles has a portable inflator if my tire is very low or flat. That will get most people a temporary band-aid to get to a tire center for proper repair or replace. These are available at any automotive store or better yet Amazon for @$35. Great video though. Thank you.
Very true. It is a good point. I believe all drivers should have a mini-compressor on hand, but many, many don't. So it may apply to those who do not have a 12v compressor on hand as well.
I have a 2014 qx 60 and i have an airbag light that keeps blinking and won’t go away. I have tried to reset by turning the ignition switch on/off 3 times was air bag light initially goes away but airbag light keeps coming back on. Any suggestions?
Hello, That is unfortunate news. It could be good news or bad news. I see you have tried the on-off 3 times for the reset. It does have to be done a very specific way, and if not followed to the exact instructions, it will not work. Also, sometimes it can take 2 or 3 tries, due to the timing of it. 1. Turn the ignition key to position “ON” without starting the engine If your vehicle has a Smart key button, press the “Start” button twice without touching the brake pedal. 2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly. 3. Wait for more than 3 seconds 4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times. 5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is a diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry. 6. Now turn the key off again, wait for more than 3 seconds like in step 3 again, and turn back on. 7. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset you may have done this exactly already, but just wanted to be sure. If it works, that is the good news. The bad news is, if that doesn't work, there may be an actual fault in the srs system. There is tests that someone can do to check it, but I won;t detail them here, as these tests can actually cause damage to the car or to an individual, and should be tested by someone familiar with air bag systems. I know this is not a complete answer, but hopefully it does help
TPMS Hope all is well. I really like your videos, very thorough. Keep it up!!! Since you’re showing in this video how to use the spare tire, I wanted to ask you if you’ve had issues with the TPMS giving you an alert. My Infiniti just lit up an alert about the TPMS system and one of the tires is not registering air pressure even though it’s at the right air pressure. The alert came on as I was driving on the highway. If you can think of anything, I’d greatly appreciate your response. Thanks!
I have not had the issue personally on my JX, but I have seen it on other cars. The TPMS have a battery in them, and when the battery dies, it can no longer read the tire pressure. That is my guess without testing, but there can be other issues, like a ECU issue or a malfunctioning valve stem. Those can be replaced separately.
I know, it is very hard to remove. That little screw is really tight in there. I actually had to use a channel locks/locking pliers to get the jack holdown screw to move. Once it does move, it is just a matter of unscrewing it, and sliding the jack over, and it will come right out.
Thanks for the great video. Don't you think its a good idea to lower the spare tire after a couple of years and spray some lubricant/grease over the assembly to avoid any rust build up and to keep the wire rope in good condition?.
I wish Nissan used something like this in Armada . Also more better is like Mazda MPV which I had it. In that the whole tire is inside the car. So it dont rust and no need all this hassle.
I prefer that too. I hate having spares under the car. I have encountered quite a few cars (not the Infiniti at this point) that had their spare tires stuck due to rust, as you mentioned. I wish all vehicles had the spare in car.
It should be in that little area under the trunk, but it all depends. There is no 'right spot' for it. Some people have it in the trunk, some have it in the glove box, some in the center console, some in the door. You will have to look around..I cannot tell you, unfortunately.
Yikes! That does suck. Hopefully you find it. In case you don't, I did make a video using a special tool that may help. I lost mine too, so I had to resort to the same thing. ua-cam.com/video/q2Ip_q3uXxQ/v-deo.html
HEY, GREAT VIDEO. WHAT DO GUYS DO THAT HAVE UPGRADED 22"+ RIMS? IS IT SAFE TO USE THE STOCK SPARE FOR A FEW MILES? SHOULD I TRY TO BUY A 22" SPARE TO MOUNT UNDERNEATH? TIA
You can use the spare for a few miles with aftermarket 22", but not very far. The car may lean towards the spare tire, but all depends on the total circumference of 22" wheel. If they are low profile tires, then there may not be a big difference in size between the factory rims and the 22s". I would measure the spare tire, end to end, then you're 22s", end to end. If they are roughly the same, or off by about an inch or less, you shouldn't even need to change the spare
4:18 brought an InfinitiQX60@2017 and didn't have a clue the jack mechanism was. Thank you for your demonstration
