Hi Wendi, I know you from your phenomenal work with Fiona the hippo. Congratulations on the baby! The lions are beautiful. A big thank you to you and all the other staff at the zoo for the great work you all do every day.
I really want to get Big Cats training and work here at the Cincinnati Zoo or at the Columbus Zoo. Something that keeps me in Ohio. I love big cats and showing off their beauty (or tbh really any animal) to the public. I recently found out this is my passion and it's what I want to do with my life. I'm graduating this year and going to study a biological science in college. Thanks for this video. Makes me happy to know we still get to see the lions when we can't be there. 😊
Thank you so much for this amazing idea! My kids and I look forward to Home Safari every day now and we're all learning so much! In self-quarantine in Kodiak, AK
These videos are amazing! My kids and I love watching and learning together. If I could offer one bit of constructive feedback... would it be possible to use a tripod? Sometimes I feel like I’m getting motion sickness due to the unsteady camera. Thank you!
👏👏👏👏👏👏❤💓💕💖💗💘💙💚💛💜💝💞💟LOVE John and Imani!!!!!God bless this zoo,and these BEAUTIFUL animals, and people ,they are all everyday ANGELS!!!!🦁🐈🐾,💐🌸💮🏵🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷🍭🍬🍯🍡🌌🌝⭐🌟🌠🌈🎈🎉🎊🎀🎁🎗🎖🎑♥!!!!!!!!!
I did some research a while back that indicated that when the males are present at the hunt but hanging back, they may be protecting the cubs while the females focus on the hunt. What is the likelihood that this is true?
The males will come out for the hunt when the lions are hunting something very large like a buffalo. In the superpride that hunts elephants, they do join in the hunt. Their weight helps take such a large animal down, and elephants have poor night vision so they don't need to hide. It's very likely that what you're asking is true because the main role of the lion is to protect the pride. Lions obviously invest a lot in their offspring, so it serves the males well to watch over the cubs and defend them against roving males--the same as when the females are there. Another reason they don't usually go out to hunt with the females is because they need all their energy in case they need to fight. A male lion who has been ousted from a pride isn't likely to survive for long, unfortunately. Unless perhaps they have brothers, but their manes still make it difficult to stalk prey at all. Hope that answers your question!
HA John and Imani are just like every couple. The woman wants to renovate and the man would rather just leave everything as is! I can just imagine the conversation. Imani - Ohh John wouldn't it be nice to get a new tree? We should get some more rocks too. And that nasty old divot HAS to go! John- No, our tree fine. Honey we have plenty of rocks we don't need more. I love that divot it's comfortable. Later John- Grumble grumble I thought I was supposed to be king of the jungle. Imani- Hush it looks nice.
Berudi (sp?) Lives at Calgary zoo?! That's interesting! That's on my to do list when things open back up. I haven't been to our zoo in a while, a visit is definitely over due!
RainyDayLady yes. I assume that because they don’t actually have to waste as much energy in the zoo than in the wild, they would need more exercise to keep them in shape.
I remember John's birth at the National Zoo. What a majestic boy he has grown up to be.
This is the coolest thing my family really appreciates it during these times!!! We all watch together in the living room! Thank you!

Edie Koller It works on kids too. All you have to do is reward them with dessert instead of meatballs.

Awsome video. ohh and do you have pigs

Good lions
Where did all their cubs go? I know it's been a while. I guess before Fiona was born, if I recall correctly.
@Jayne Eyre Right. I'm just wondering who went to which zoos. And also how long in all they were with their parents. I lost track of them. 🙂
How much sleep do they get?
Lions usually sleep about 18-20 hours each day.
EPIC
I’m going to own my own zoo and it will have a lions enclosure in it but it will be in Australia aka the country I’m in and was born in
it looked like a nice enclosure but how big is it. ? 1/2 acre or something? less?
your majesty
Do they have cubs or are they going to have one?
Thanks. I like. Thats
where do the lions at the zoo stay in the winter?
They actually have the option of going outside if they wish because there are heated rocks.
How many lions do you have there( how many where born in the last litter)
Berudi (sp?) Lives at Calgary zoo?! That's interesting! That's on my to do list when things open back up. I haven't been to our zoo in a while, a visit is definitely over due!
Love the lions. My daughter was wondering how old they are? She might have missed it if you said it.

Check a cub picture on google they are so cute
How fast can lionsRun?
Why is the male one hiding?🦁
How much exercise do zoo lions get? Is there training that helps them stay in shape?
RainyDayLady yes. I assume that because they don’t actually have to waste as much energy in the zoo than in the wild, they would need more exercise to keep them in shape.
