I loved it. The timing is a little slow, but the raw emotions of child neglect and discovering that her upbringing was wrong made it worth it. The symbolism is beautifully done as well. It's the best movie so far where I've seen the trope money is nothing without love

This is one of those movies that critics love(89% rotten tomatoes from critics), but casual views get confused or bored( 49% rotten tomatoes from audiences)
    I personally enjoyed it
With all the fast-paced, instant gratification movies out there, it was nice to watch something different for a change
Evan really did a superb job portraying Old Dolio

Wait, what does the trailer spoil? The way her parents treated her? I agree that's not great to show, but the ending, twists, and depths of their unique realtionships aren't spoiled...!
Actually thinking on it a bit more yeah, that's half-spoiling the emotional core of it all. Plus the surprise that Melanie is sticking around is gone...!
I also agree, the best trailers tell you very little, and some even lead you along into thinking something incorrect, like the fantastic Beau is Afraid trailer!

Literally just finished watching it and it’s absolutely brilliant. Contrary to the BS in another comment here, this film isn’t about bad parents; it’s about forgiveness, love, and being true to yourself. But above all else, it’s a love story. And a really endearing one at that. I consider myself a pretty hard-nosed, cynical guy in my 40s but I was surprised at just how touching I found this film. It defies ordinary categorisation due to its plain weirdness, but I can’t remember enjoying a film so much in well over a year. It’s quirky without turning into a try-hard cliché, it’s endearing without being soppy, and amusing without trying to be a Charlie Chaplin film. Superb performances all round- not a single moment of hammy acting. There are so many oddly moving moments that I really don’t know how to summarise it. Trust me, if you want an uplifting but satisfyingly original film then this is it. I’ve never seen anything like it and I could happily watch it again right away. 10/10. Great job, Miranda July. Such a sweet film that completely took me by surprise.

I read the description of this movie and I thought "Oh well...another heist movie. Whatever" but I decided to watch it because Evan Rachel Wood is in it.
I was happily surprised. It was so much more than I expected. I felt uncomfortable, sad, confused, frustrated, amused, hurt all in one movie. The characters may be "weird" but the story isn't hard to follow. I'm really glad I decided to give a try. Totally recommend.
